Was talking to someone who worked in closed captioning who is now getting a new degree because so many companies are turning to AI to close caption now… Which AI is pretty shite at it still.

Nic chuckles and shakes his head after she kisses his cheek. “He’s no boxer - I just can lift more than he can is all.” He tells Cass as he follows her before she hands him a book. He blinks in surprise, turning the book over and peeking inside as Cass explains what it is.
“You have to be the most amazing girlfriend in the world, you know that?” He says, eager to read the book as soon as possible.

Ron lets out a bark of laughter at Cass’ comment. “I haven’t seen him lately in the gym and was worried he’d stop boxing for a minute there.”
“Cass set me up with a friend of hers that’s a personal trainer, but if you want me to come back and kick your butt twice a week, I can do that.” Nic wraps an around around Cass’ shoulders with a smirk. “We can set up a double date or something with you some other nicethough, I’m eager to get home with my girlfriend.”
The other nurse laughs and shakes his head. “Nice to meet you!” He tells Cass before heading off for the bus stop.

Nic sighs before he turns to shake his head at his friend and coworker. “You have the absolute worst timing, Ron.” He says with a playful glare before releasing Cass so she can greet the man. “Ron started as a nurse here at the same time as me - he works in the pediatric emergency room.”
Ron takes Cass’ hand and shakes it with a smile. “This jerk likes to kick my ass anytime we both happen to be in the gym together.”
Nero snorts, absolutely amused by Caden’s antics. “All the high valuables are in my office currently. This room is… well it’s basically a trash can for items I don’t want to keep and that have practically no value.” There’s a lot of cat trees Nero had found beside a dumpster scattered throughout the room.
Nicholas “Nic” Wu
Location: Outside Chicago Med - Chicago, IL Skills: Fit
Nic’s eyes slide shut, almost immediately relaxing in Cass’ arms and from her touch. “Let’s get something to bring home and pair with that wine.” He says in a low grumble, not moving for a moment before he pulls his head out from his hiding spot to kiss Cass. He starts with her forehead, then her cheeks, then her nose, and is about to kiss her lips when another male nurse calls out a greeting.
“Nic? That’s you, isn’t it? Is this the famous Cassi?” Ron, a tall and gangly ginger appears at their side. He stands just slightly shorter than Nic at 6’1”.
Nero gives Caden a flat look as they tilt their head as much as they can with him holding it. “I hope you’re saying implying that inventory is code for something else.” They say as they narrow their eyes but a smirk appears on their face as well. “Because showing you my ledger is the furthest thing on my mind now that you’ve removed my shirt.”

As Cass starts to look at him worriedly, Nic is glad he didn’t tell her about the vanishing patients yet. He wraps his arms around her and holds her close in a tight embrace. “I lost track of time - the rest of the staff had to remind me what time it was. I’m sorry.” He buries his face in her neck, not bothering to move her hair as he closes his eyes and inhales.
Nero’s chuckle turns breathless very quickly and they find themselves having to hold onto the dragon to stay upright. “S-sure…” Caden could have asked for anything and Nero would happily oblige right now. “…I’m… done, was just organizing…” Nero bites their lip as their hands start to roam, grasping Caden’s sweater by the collar and pulling the fabric upwards.
Nicholas “Nic” Wu
Location: Leaving Chicago Med - Chicago, IL Skills: Fit
Nic pulls his phone out as just as he exits the hospital, smiling in bemusement at Cass’ text. He starts to walk over to where his bike is chained as he replies.
Oh? Are we playing hide and seek now?
Nic slips the phone back into his pocket and stops as his gaze lands on the familiar form of Cass sitting on the bench outside. “Oh, you’re a sneaky one, aren’t you?” He says loudly before bounding over to her in a couple of steps.
Nero wiggles, scrunching their neck into Caden, start to have that ticklish feeling on their neck. “I told them I didn’t want to see them set foot in here until after the sun sets.” They whisper back. Part of them really wants to show Caden the goodies they’ve gathered to take back to his place now, but the other part really missed him and wanted this moment to last longer.
“So if they show their faces, they know they’re dead meat.” Nero practically growls with a smirk.
Nicholas “Nic” Wu
Location: Hospital Emergency Room - Chicago, IL Skills: Fit
The next couple of hours goes by in a blur. It’s typical for everything to pick up when the night begins to take over the sky. Nic goes through the charts with the night shift attending to let her know the basics. Half of the people in the accident were able to be discharged within a hour of arrival, but the victims who took the brunt of it are waiting for rooms to open so they can be admitted to the hospital.
Nic doesn’t notice that his shift has ended yet as he checks on some of the patients, making sure everything is in place for them, until one of the nurses finally points out the clock to him. Some of the staff around push Nic to leave, knowing if they didn’t he might end up staying all night. As he changes out of his scrubs, he remembers the flash drives and tucks them into a safe space in his backpack before he throws them into the bin for washing.
<3 Any chance you’re still hanging around downtown?
“Of course you did.” Nero says with a laugh before Caden stops their search of him for wounds. They nearly threaten Cassi’s life out loud, but stop themselves. Even joking about it feels wrong with the tension between the two.
As Caden kisses their neck, they sigh happily, the ever-present shiver crawling up their spine from the action. Nero wraps their arms around Caden again, holding him close. “I’m much better now that you’re here.” They tell Caden honestly, letting their eyes close they continue to relax with each passing moment.

Just as Cass asks how work is, Nic’s pager goes off, which he’s slightly grateful for at the moment. He doesn’t want to lie and just tell her it’s going well. He’s going to let her know what’s going on, but when he can be next to her instead of making her worry for the next couple of hours.
It’s been mostly a chill day, but it looks like that’s over now. I’ll text you when I can <3
Nic dashes back to the emergency room just as EMTs start rolling in gurneys. Apparently there’d been a car accident involving three cars and of course all of them full of passengers. Nic stretches his neck and rolls his shoulders before he starts helping move people onto beds and taking note of vitals from the first responders.
Nero happily kisses Caden back, a smile still on their lips before Caden pulls away. Their smile is replaced by a cocky smirk. “I usually do it if I want to appear more deadly… Wait, you were stabbed??” Nero pulls their arms back, checking their love for wounds.
“Did Cassi stab you?” Honestly, Nero wouldn’t be surprised if she had while the two had talked. Even though they know Caden heals quickly, they can’t help but be a little worried.

Nic can hardly contain his smile at this happy coincidence. When his family had first moved to Chicago, the young boy would spend hours in there with his parents. It’s where his love of reading first began. As he got older and started visiting after school, it was at Myopic that he discovered his photographic memory.

Nero watches, still perplexed by this person as they approach and talk about dragons. Nero stops the spinning, holding the small dagger between their fore and middle finger and ready to strike before realization dawns on them just as the gangly teen shifts into Caden. The knife falls out of their hand and to the ground as they start to laugh loudly, holding their stomach.
“Ich hätte dich fast erstochen, du Verrückter!” They say between laughs as they catch their breath.
Nero laugh subsides into soft chuckles as they straighten and look up at their dragon. “I wish I could shift like you, think of all the possible pranking I could do.” They stand on their tiptoes and wrap their arms around Caden’s neck with a smile as they shake their head, still amused by his joke.

Nic grins when she texts back, just about finished with his snack. He tries to zoom in on the background of her photo and gets excited to see she’s at one of his favorite stores. It’s where he goes when he wants something other than medical texts or journals.
Are you at Myopic Bookstore?! That’s my favorite place! I always get carried away there too 😍
The bookstore is one of Chicago’s oldest bookstores and it’s three floors of books. Nic has to limit himself whenever he goes because he can easily walk out of there with all his money spent.
