Do I sense a spin off 1x1 in the making?

Eggs were something not customarily consumed by Dwarves. Their ancestral home was underground, in the mountains. Few things worth eating laid eggs underground, and those that did used things like soil, not hardened stone. Eggs in a Dwarven settlement (assuming it wasn't out in the hills. That would broach into an entirely different subject) were a rarity for the elites and a curiosity imported from other peoples, generally human merchants. Since leaving the nest, Nor's found food previously thought of as a delicacy as commonplace and vice versa. Funny how things work.

Wordlessly, Nor finished up his breakfast that he didn't really want and headed up to the room and rapped his fist against the door thrice before stepping into the room.

"Hope ye don't mind setting aside a wee bit o' time filling me in on the current state of things. Pretty sure I've a general understanding of the situation, but better safe than sorry, aye?"

"I'm sure you didn't embarrass yourself as badly as you think you did," Cyne consoled Thomas, offering a wide smile, bits of eggs visible on and in between her teeth. It probably would only make Thomas feel worse than he had already been, but she didn't seem to notice, given the enthusiasm that radiated from her. Maybe the food was just putting her in a good mood.

"Yeah, I followed Ntaj because he seemed troubled. We went to the graveyard and looked around for a bit. I saw how he was acting while alone, and honestly, I'm worried that he might be undergoing a breakdown. Haven't seen him since then." Her expression turned a lot more serious and thoughtful when Thomas brought up Ntaj. She just hoped he had been oversleeping instead of wandering off and getting into trouble. No use going off to search for him at the moment, there was that meeting to get to. Cyneburg wiped her mouth clean of egg and bread bits before casually strolling into Kyra's room with nary a knock or greeting.
Well on the other hand, the lower the Synch rate, the less "damage" the pilot takes. And Culling is as low as it can possibly go (unless there's some level beyond -100 that causes the Third Impact or something), so it might not be as bad for Serah (not counting all the other obvious bad things going on).
RIP Map

You will be missed.
Whoops, I was sure I had those right the first time around. Fixed

Location: Zoie's House

Mali looked Zoie directly in the eyes and listened intently, nodding along like she understood half of what she was saying. She wasn't one hundred percent lost: there were definitely familiar names that her brain picked up like Horus and Bastet. She also thought that she could vaguely remember learning about the creation of a dam that created issues with preserving historic relics. If memory served that was the Aswan Dam, which was the largest dam at the world at the time? Maybe. It was murky half-knowledge salvaged from unused portions of her mind. But the rest was a complete mystery. Still, Mali did the best to bookmark a couple of terms in her head. They might be important.

"Uh this one," Mali picked up the romance novel, "Was actually because the cover grabbed my attention for whatever reason. On second thought, I'm not sure if I'm even going to enjoy it, but might as well give it a try now that I've got it. Rising Dragon was actually one of my favorite books in 7th grade, so seeing it again brought back a wave of nostalgia. It's been years since I've read it, so I figured there's no harm in revisiting an old favorite."

"And this last one has more to do with my academic background than anything."
Mali patted the decidedly larger (at least in height and width) book. "I suppose you could call me a Historian-in-Her-Free-Time, so I picked out a book closer to my tastes and strong suits when it comes to cerebral pursuits. I'm not really all that educated on Ancient Egypt, but since you have so many books on the subject I figured there was no harm in expanding my knowledge base when given the opportunity."

@Lady Amalthea The man nodded absently when Sunie told him that he wouldn't have to wait much longer. He could recognize when he was being given the customer service treatment. It took forever, but the net finally turned up a result. Turns out that the address the man had given her was valid, just not anywhere nearby. Or on the planet. Wherever he was trying to reach was in fact on the neighboring planet of Xinon in the city of Dandong. Whoops.

@Nallore Turning away from the entrance of the building, Anthony decided it wasn't worth the effort to try getting through security and the press, an entirely understandable sentiment. As he made his way out of the crowd, he could spot two figures similarly working their way against the grain of people. He couldn't really tell much, but from the silhouette they appeared to be both female, one was blonde, the other had black hair. They appeared to be moving away from the crime scene, but in opposite directions.

Cyne looked over the dwarf who was apparently the new party of their little crew. He looked like a dwarf all right. Aside from this one aspect, she couldn't determine much about the newcomer. Maybe it was her brain taking awhile to truly start up, but she had no idea how helpful he would end up being. But at least it would be more than nothing given how many people had taken to mysteriously vanishing. This group was less like a snowball rolling downhill so much as a tumbleweed that picked up new materials from the ground as quickly as it lost parts of its former make up.

"I don't believe we've met. I'm Cyneburg. I guess you could call me the resident druid of the group."

"Nor Dunadkar. Pleasure tae meet ye." And then neither of them spoke a word to the other for the rest of the wait until food arrived. It's not like they disliked each other. There was just nothing to say for the time being. When food arrived, Nor ate heartily, but measured. After all, he wasn't all that famished. Cyne on the other hand devoured her egg-filled bread bowl in the span of a couple of minutes.

"So Thomas," the druid asked as she wiped off remnant egg bits from her mouth, "did you happen to do anything interesting yesterday? I was off with others the whole of yesterday and didn't get to see much of the 'main' group's doing."

Now perhaps a couple of weeks ago, Mali would have thought the abundance of books on Egypt were mere coincidence, or that Zoie simply was really interested in Egypt. However, her belief in coincidences had been reduced quite dramatically in quite a short span of ideas. It was to the point where she was beginning to question if coincidences did in fact exist or if they were some fabrication of the human mind meant to make life simpler than it really was.

Although she had been looking for Greece and Rome, Mali decided to not pick out any of the books on either of those geographies. In a perfect world, she wouldn't need, too, but she could only carry so many books and keeping everything together was a bit difficult already given the whole broken hand thing. Idly, she noted that Hannah would probably be really interested in the astrology tomes and be able to get a lot out of them, assuming she hadn't already read them herself. However, Mali would probably get lost. Those kinds of books when not written for a broader audience had a way of using a lot of obscure terminology to vaguely describe things that didn't actually exist, and her brain had a way of sticking on points she didn't understand rather than get a grasp of the whole.

No, Mali picked a book that was closer to her strengths: Findings Within the Temple of Kalabsha. Sure her forte was a completely different time and place, but historians were pretty consistent with how they wrote. A bit of Google searching might be necessary, but she had little doubt whether she would be able to handle it. There was no possible way that she'd be able to finish any of these books tonight, let alone all of them, but at the very least she could skim and do some targeted reading.

Books all picked out, Mali left the study to go back to the room she'd been graciously allowed to use. When she walked into the kitchen, she was a bit surprised to see Zoie back in there. Honestly she had expected to not see another soul for the rest of the night. Less surprised was she to find her in a much dirtier, sweatier condition than she had been just a few hours prior. When living on a farm, a lot of dirty work was a given. Only thing that seemed off was that she had thought that most such farm work got done in the morning rather than night, but what did she know about the rural lifestyle.

Well looked like he was in the group. That was more painless than he was expecting it to be. Then again, they were very short-handed and they probably figured having another meat shield was just what they required at the minute, with at least one of them were willing to admit that up front. But if it came down to it, he wasn't going to get abandoned to a horde of the living dead if he could help it. But at the same time, if these people were dumb enough to take on an undead infestation of unknown origin and size for free, they probably wouldn't just leave a teammate for dead. Probably.

Nor looked blankly at Thomas and his idiotic question. The lad must have heard Nor introduce himself at least 3 different times over the last 12 hours, yet he still called him Sir Dwarf? And where did he learn to fight? The same places that every-sodding-body would learn to fight. There aren't many places that a body learns to handle a blade in active combat. And even then it didn't matter one lick where he learned to fight and was none of the kid's business.

Thankfully he was saved from having to give out a tongue-lashing by the big bloke who seemed to be the group's cook. And at the same time he got another prospective customer. Bad first impressions aside, this guy didn't seem like such a bad bloke after all. But all there was to do now was wait for food. To serve this goal, Nor found an empty chair and climbed up into it. There was no way he'd be able to reach anything with the tables so high, and he wasn't going to eat on the floor like some savage.

As much as Cyne wanted to just stay in this bed forever and not have to get up, she knew that she'd have to leave sooner rather than later. Inns did have a check out time, and the group was probably having an important discussion on how to proceed next. Or something like that. And all that aside, she still needed to get all her shopping done that she wasn't able to do the day before because of cemetery and exhaustion.

Too bad she couldn't be a bear right now. Bears didn't need to get out of bed to go shopping.

The druid rolled out of bed and flopped onto the floor below face first. After she got up and did a few morning waking up stretches, she put on most of the clothes she had shed before retiring the night previous. That is all the clothes but her mantle, which she opted to simply throw over her shoulder for the time being. She'd put it on before going outside, but it was a bit premature to don it while still indoors. It wasn't that cold after all.

Stifling a yawn, Cyneburg stumbled her way into the common room, on the way passing Kyra as she went somewhere. She gave the irritable ranger a wave, but didn't try to talk to her or stop her. She was the type that got involved in whatever they were doing, and always found something to be doing. Trying to chat would lead nowhere fast. Once in the room she found everyone else minus Ntaj at the same table plus one dwarf from last night.
