Bio

21 year old white man. Do I get Social Justice points for being gay?

Lame (and somewhat rude) jokes aside, I'm an American college student majoring in Media Studies and hoping to work in game design. I've run several tabletop RPGs over the years, mostly in the vein of D&D and Pathfinder. I dabbled in forum RP years ago, and am hoping to have a joyous reunion with the art now.

My greatest strength is probably my ability to realize my weaknesses and take honest criticism without feeling put down. One of said weaknesses is my bad tendency to proofread after posting something, so feel free to point out spelling mistakes or small grammatical errors if I've left a post lying around a little while.

I swear I don't bite, though the zombies might. (Ask me about my moral position on Necromancy.)

@Sep, so how are we handling this meeting? There gonna be a collab? You gonna draft a post and run it by us or something?
I was thinking and got curious about how other people think about the past in terms of RPs. We have all these stories floating around, many in progress, some completed, and many that died somewhere along the way. Personally, I always sort of write thinking that someone could go back and read it as a sort of slightly disjointed novel (I'm mostly in Advanced RP). Where they could appreciate a story and, in particular, do not need to dig back through the character sheets or OOC OP for information never explained in character.
What do you guys think? Do you write and think of this more ephemerally, where its for us to use now and leave behind? Or are you like me where you imagine that, like a diary, someone (yourself or not) may one day go back and read all of this?
Karen had been surprised upon receiving a call from the Bridge. Apparently, they wanted her somewhere she could see the action and observe the Devastators, as well as some sort of advisement. They probably assumed she had any real idea what the Vitae's weapons were capable of. With a frantic energy barely far enough away from panic, Karen's frazzled brain decided to give Michael a hug and incoherent explaination that she was needed before running off towards the edge of Eden. She needed to get to the nearest security station for a proper viewing. It wasn't until she was entering one of said stations that she remembered the display podium in the center of Eden- which had been much closer. Too late to dwell on that now, though.

Immediately Karen began giving orders to the room at large, and its four other inhabitants. It wasn't until a solid two minutes had passed that she realized they were staring at her confused, unaware that she specifically had orders, from the Admiral himself, to watch the enemy. This would explain why they still hadn't pulled up footage, and the three other people were just staring at her.

Deep breath.

The two men seemed to be guards, just in case someone tried to break in and screw with the systems, and the woman part of more technical staff. Karen supposed that's where her words should be directed. "I'm Xenobiologist Karen Anderson, I am under orders from the bridge to observe the Devastators and advise the Admiral on any weaknesses they have. Please pull up the battle footage."

There it was. Comprehensible language, instead of the stream of near-babble she had been saying before. Speaking of which, there was the footage. And a lot of fighters, coupled with some large lasers. Light. Focused light. Karen asked for a pen and paper, and instead received an electronic drawing tablet. Close enough, she figured, while she jotted down information she wanted recorded for later.

Light frequency? source deduce
size of fighters storage
materials?
Central fighter control? Hive mind, AI?
^
How do they communicate? Light, smells? or other molecules (like ants)

if all one organism, how sustained? Maybe superorganism?
Karen's Notes

Clearly, she needed more concrete data. "Tech... Person, please have the light frequency of the lasers recorded for later. Any data is good data, y'know?"

"Hello, this is Dr. Anderson speaking, I'm in the middle of business right now."
". . ."
"Oh, uh... Eden isn't very ready for that many people right now. Some branches fell while exiting the atmosphere, and I'm afraid more might fall during warp. The edges of it should be fine, though, those are totally open."
". . ."
"Yeah, just... Be careful, and don't let anyone into the trees. I'm already worried for the safety of people and what little animal life is in there... ALSO! There's a man in there, upset. Someone should make sure he's okay."
". . ."

For a niche specialist, Karen was having an excessively exciting day. "Yup," she thought, "definitely a distinct excess of excitement."
Aha!~ I have stopped being neglectful and, as some of you may have noticed due to notifications, read through what I've missed in the OOC! Now I just need to catch up for the IC...

Also, I had no idea how nice to feels to have people complimenting my writing/character. Thanks @Subject Zero and @Peaceless.
I didn't realize Sep had reopened spots.

I don't think he has, but I believe the OP mentions the possibility for later, and that people are welcome to submit in anticipation of that. Do you really think all our characters are gonna survive this?
@Rawk, I see. I put "seemed" because I wasn't sure, so if you want to clarify at some point you're welcome to, but by no means obligated to.
I am hereby abandoning this thread in favor of the OOC. But let me just say that the guild thing sounds solid
Cough*consequences*cough

I think Xaith made the right decision, but something tells me he did not have the situation on the ground floor in mind at all when he did it. At any rate, this was a quick post before I head off to class. I might go back and edit in a bit more detail later.
Karen was fighting off panic. She had been working her way back to Eden when the announcement came. Suddenly, people were pouring out of buildings a turning into a tumultuous tide of frightened bodies. Having very little idea of how to get to her room, Karen's first action was to get out of the main flow, and second was to pull out her PDA so NO4H could show her the way. There was a delay she wasn't used to, as countless other people also pulled out devices for info, be it about what was outside or how to get to these new rooms they had yet to visit after boarding today. Karen began the journey of stumbles, but managed to avoid falling while working her way through the tide.

But then her PDA went dark. Not quite literally, but it was no longer showing her route or a map. The same went for everyone else. Their signals were either gone or being ignored, and nobody knew what to do or where to go. The tide slowed as people began pleading security agents to help find their rooms and those who had investigated outside couldn't help jumping to conclusions that Karen overheard.

"Did they hit us?"
"Are we under cyber-attack?"
"Did the Destroyer take out the bridge?"

Karen didn't want to think about those things, and it wasn't her job. Instead, she did everything in her power to not panic, and otherwise went with the general flow of people headed out towards the living spaces. Once there, she figured in her half-dazed state, she'd be near to her room, right?
I am definitely interested. I am also adopting the capitalization of Classes, because I'm a small stickler for consistency, at least in my own work.

For a character, I think I'll go with a tiefling Illusionist. Naturally, most people don't trust him. The fact that he's spending time with two thieves (apparently) doesn't help. Actually, it's probably straight up evidence that he shouldn't be trusted. (Really he just needs some people who care, though. And a steady supply of income/food/shelter.)
