It was not long before Kaleeth and Janius found their way to the site of the trial. The healer had cleared Sabine's potions for use by this point, and Thoranthilth had sent Tunxeek with the practice weapons, so all that was left was to wait for the Treeminder himself, and Sabine's opponent. Just as Thorantilth had said, there were a wide variety of practice weapons for Sabine to choose from. The blades and sharpened weapons had been blunted to prevent them from puncturing skin as easily, while the blunt weapons were not as heavy as their "real" counterparts. Overall, they could still be dangerous, but were not nearly as prone to causing severe injury as normal.

It took longer than expected for Thoranthilth to return, but when he did, it certainly did not deflate tensions. When he came into view, he was walking just behind Zharanthixil and a younger Argonian boy with a distraught and concerned expression on his face. "Zharan, please listen to me. I do not agree with your choice of opponent for this fight. Wutanxeex is too well-trained for this. The trial of body is not like your hunter trials, the participant does not train for years to pass it. It is not meant to be this difficult. Now please, I beg you reconsider. If you could find an opponent more appropriate for-"

"Enough! Zharanthixil shouted at the Treeminder. "Choosing her opponent is my right, is it not?"

"Yes it is, but-"

Zharanthixil quickly interrupted before Thorantilth could continue. "Good, now let's get this over with." The Master-Hunter turned his head towards Sabine, looking at her with a disdainful expression. "You, Breton. Pick your weapons and ready yourself." He ordered as the opponent he selected took his place in the clearing. The boy looked to be a year or two older than Sabine. As he only wore a simple loincloth and had no tattoos, there was nothing to indicate his status in the village, but he was an initiate hunter. He had a blunted bone dagger on the leather strap that acted as his belt, and a practice club in his hand. He was not very well trained by any means, but Zharanthixil had selected the toughest opponent he thought he could get away with. Not only that, but Wutanxeex had taken to believing much of what the Master-Hunter said about outsiders. He did not have the same deep-rooted hate, but he was not fond of outsiders and was looking forward to fighting with Sabine.

Although they had spoken in Jel, Meesei had been sure to translate for Sabine. Like Thorantilth, she was none too happy about the situation, but she was a bit more hopeful than the Treeminder. Zharanthixil had likely selected an older boy to fight Sabine for the perceived strength advantage he would have, which was why it would come as a surprise when Sabine could easily outmatch him physically. There was, however, still the matter of his fighting skill to contend with. Sabine could not just rely on raw power to beat him, but she had other advantages she could use. Meesei looked down at Sabine beside her and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Remember, just play to your strengths. You have more advantages than you think."
Kaleeth held on tightly to Janius when he hugged her, and once they pulled away, she kept her arms on his shoulders. "I...don't really know what to say. I mean, I can't think of anything. You saw how we was, how strong he believes. He has always had those skulls. He said he keeps them to remind himself of his failures, and to remind him of why he has to be strong for the village. I think it just reminds him of pain."

Letting out a sigh, Kaleeth looked around, then leaned in and gave Janius a kiss. As easy as it would be to just stay away from Janius to avoid upsetting her father, she did not want that. While she did not want to anger him, she also did not want to accept his hate. In her mind, parting from Janius over this would be just the same as accepting her father's biases as valid. "Maybe we should just try to avoid talking to father and enjoy our time together. We do not have too much time left, and...I would rather enjoy that time with you instead of worrying about how to not upset father. We should not let him ruin it for us. Your friend is having trial right now, right? We could go support her."
Hey, that RP I mentioned is up, or at least the OOC is. Here is a link if you're interested: http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/51219/posts/ooc
Although she desperately wanted to say something to her father, Kaleeth was simply too afraid to think of anything helpful. Anytime she tried, she just kept thinking about how it might cause him to get even angrier at her. She didn't want to destroy her relationship with her father, but neither did she want to abandon Janius. She was so wrapped up in her thoughts that she almost didn't notice when Janius started to leave. She looked at her father nervously, but as soon as she met his disappointed gaze, she quickly turned her head and left just behind Janius.

As soon as she was outside, Kaleeth hung her head in shame. She had been given the opportunity to say something to her father, but she had been too nervous to do anything and just let Janius take the majority of his rage. She felt guilty and was afraid she had angered Janius in her inaction. "I...I am sorry, I just...I couldn't think. I looked at him and I couldn't stop shaking and I...I'm sorry." She said, taking her eyes off the ground long enough for her to look at Janius with a pleading expression.
"What do I know? I know that we invited them into our home. We gave them food, shelter, we shared stories and gave them advice. We showed them all the hospitality we could, and they used it to spy on us, figure out when our defenses would be weak, then used that to slit our throats. I tried staying away from you. I tried just waiting it out and letting you leave, but you proved that you can not be trusted. Now, with what you've done, I know I was right about you." Zharanthixil answered before snatching the skulls from Janius' hands and replacing them on the shrines.

The Master-Hunter turned his head back and bared his teeth at Janius. "And I know I want you out of my home...NOW!" He shouted. "Leave, before I make you leave." Zharanthixil's demeanor was considerably more threatening than before, and he did not seem to intent on listening to anything Janius had to say.

Kaleeth wanted to speak up, to say...something to defend Janius, but she had never heard her father shouting like this before. Her mind was filled with fear, causing her to freeze up. Her father was not yelling directly at her, so it was possible she might be able to say something to help, but she couldn't even stop herself from shaking, let alone form a cohesive thought. Her mind completely drew a blank on what she could say or do to help the situation.
The bios need not be so extensive. We've just had a lot of time for this.
Nice, just take a look at the OOC and put up a CS. There is a lot of information there, but I'm sure there is still something I forgot. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. You don't need to mention how exactly your character joins this Assembly team, that will happen early in RP. (Though, you should probably make a character for which it would make sense to join an important and clandestine group such as that.)
(Sorry for the delayed response. I was refreshing my subscriptions page to check replies.)

In a sense, yes. The group we would be a part of would be more of a special forces type of organization, capable of handling a wide variety of situations. The story will involve dealing with threats, but there may be more to it than there appears. There is a reason for the title, after all.
Link to RP

This RP is set in a universe created by myself and a few friends. It is a mix of sci-fi and fantasy (admittedly, mostly sci-fi), and is focused around a set of characters of various species working to preserve galactic peace in a tense political environment, alongside combating rising threats in the galaxy. A description of the universe in which the RP takes place can be found in the OOC (link at the top). The aim is to have an RP with a lot of variety in what we do, both in combat and fighting, and in other tasks, with plenty of off-time for characters in between.
Name: Rareth'Jharn

Species: Rothian

Height: 7' 10"

Age: 612

Gender: Female

Appearance: Rareth has dark red eyes with black scales across most of her body, with the exception of the bands of red scales that run across the back of her body from her neck to her feet, including her tail and the back of her arms

Equipment: Armor with a similar aesthetic as this, but for a Rothian

Weapons: Energy Katana (contains a small fusion cell that, when activated, powers the already sharp blade with a green energy, producing intense heat and allowing the blade to cut through most materials.), dual energy daggers, Rothian pistol

Abilities: Rareth possesses considerable training in several forms of martial arts, both armed and unarmed, and is particularly deadly with a blade. She is a practiced acrobat with reflexes reflecting her fast-paced combat style. Her skill with conventional weapons such as combat rifles is good, but not exceptional. Her magic skills are limited, but specialized. She uses talents such as invisibility, teleportation, and telekinesis to augment her own fighting abilities or otherwise undermine her foes.

Background: Rareth was abandoned by her biological parents before she was even hatched. Security footage from the outskirts of the city of Threria on Rothia show her masked parents taking her as an egg and tossing her off of a steep cliff just outside the city, a common course of action for those wishing to avoid the punishment of bearing a child illegally. By all rights, she should have died. No one is sure how her egg even managed to survive the fall, let alone keeping her alive inside of it. Even more amazing was that the act was witnessed by two bystanders who not only managed to rescue the egg, but keep it safe until it hatched a few weeks later. The bystanders were Sira'Tharis and Aeral'Wryjorn, who would become Rareth's adopted mother and father. Even though they were complete strangers beforehand, finding the egg brought them together, and they were married within a few months. They filled out all of the proper paperwork to officially adopt the child, who they named Rareth'Jharn, which means "Miracle Being."

By taking DNA samples from Rareth, the authorities were able to determine who her biological parents were, but before they were able to make any arrests, her biological parents fled Rothian space and have not since been found.

Rareth's father, Aeral, was a concept designer for a local technology company, while her mother, Sira, was an officer of the Rothia Defense Force, which acts as both the police and military of Rothia. Throughout his entire childhood, Rareth was on good terms with both of her parents. In addition to the normal education all Rothians receive, both of her parents made sure to teach her every skill they could to give her an edge in life. Her father was always sure to keep him up-to-date on technological advancements, while her mother educated her in various forms of self-defense. In particular, she taught her forms of hand-to-hand and melee combat passed down to her from her family. For Sira, teaching her these skills was a matter of tradition, something her family would expect her to do. She came from a line of seasoned warriors going back thousands of years, so passing on her skills to her child was her duty.

Rareth's childhood proceeded mostly normally for some time, but early on when she was twenty-three, it was discovered that she had the ability to use magic. Since neither of her parents had any experience with magic, they hired a private tutor to instruct her in its use. She was not an exceptional mage, but she learned at a reasonable pace. When she hit the age of fourty, she received the mandatory basic military training of all Rothian citizens, but due to the teachings of both her mother and magic tutor, she ended up becoming the top of her class.

Just like all Rothians, Rareth attained maturity around age fifty and left her parents, and though she was more than qualified to become a soldier, or to work with technology, she had higher aspirations. She put in an application to join an organization known as the Rahn'Masser, or "enlightened army." The Rahn'Masser report directly to the Rahn'Saki themselves and are the single best defense the Rothians have to protect their society. Their ranks consist of the most skilled individuals of from across their species, from soldiers, to hacking experts, to diplomats, to assassins, and their goal is to preserve their society at all costs. For one who intends to take on a combat role within the Rahn'Masser, the interview process is grueling. Rareth had to prove her abilities were among the upper echelon of combat prowess. Much to the surprise of those evaluating her, she managed to pass each of their tests on an acceptable level, despite her young age, so she was accepted into the Rahn'Masser as an operative.

Rareth worked as an operative for decades, performing missions such as espionage, sabotage, and, on occasion, assassination. Her skills and abilities gave her an average success rate higher than many operative that had been working for the agency for centuries, which allowed her to rise through the ranks very quickly. After only one hundred and fifty years as an operative, Rareth managed to gain a title that the vast majority never achieve: Datius, which means "guardian" in the Rothian language. It is a title set apart from the other ranks within the organization; those who attain the title are recognized as the best in Rothian special forces and are trusted to carry out missions that are too high risk for other operatives. Only Datius are allowed to carry out assassinations outside of Rothian space, as well as any other mission that could cause political incidents. They are an organization shrouded in secrecy, but at the same time are legends in popular culture.
