Another question just came to mind. How does mineral rarity in Tien compare to Earth? Salt, in the ancient world, was a very valuable commodity. Roman soldiers sometimes had their wages paid in salt.
Alright, I'll start writing now.

Also, just for clarification, the weapon he found was a longsword. You meant that its size was appropriate for Ssarak to use in one hand, but was two handed for a human, correct? (Using the terminology appropriately, a longsword is designed for two-handed use).
"Okay Sabine, I trust you." Meesei said as she produced the vial from her satchel. "I will not lie, there is always the possibility of violence within the clan, but that is looking less likely now than it was before. I offered the explanation that Harriet could have been magically influenced by Clavicus Vile into becoming a traitor, as that is a definite possibility. It is something I intend to test for once the trial has concluded. Earlier, there was a fight that was about to break out between two groups, but they calmed once that possibility was brought to mind. It may be enough to prevent large-scale violence at the trial itself, even if Harriet, or anyone else, tries to instigate it."

Meesei looked at the small amount of poison in the vial. Circumstance pointed to it being the same poison used in the waterskin, but there was no way to know what Sabine and Carana might learn about it. If it was indeed more concentrated than what they had found in the waterskin, then it might provide even more insight into the substance. They could even get a better sense of what it was made from. However, she did not want Sabine to feel that success was vital. "Just...try not to worry yourself so greatly, Sabine. This test could yield useful information, but do not think that the murder will go unsolved if you fail. There is other evidence, so you do not need to stress yourself to such a degree. Actually, there is one more thing you could test that might be even more useful. The only people who have handled this vial are myself, the traitor, and another individual who has been helping me. The cork likely holds the scent of the traitor, but the scent of the poison overpowers it. If there is something you could do that would isolate those scents, then we could directly link the vial to the traitor."
I would like to make a post, but there are some things I need to figure out. Namely, is it a good time to move the carriage through? I remember there were supposed to be reinforcements later but...I'd really prefer not to fight anything else. What is going on with that?
The estimated duration of the fight was extended by the use of biotics on both sides, as they were able to create biotic barriers to serve as cover in the largely open room. However, once hostiles engaged from the second level, the situation deteriorated rapidly. The allied soldiers on the far side of the room, unable to maneuver or escape, were being cut down from above. The diplomats who were too far from the door were mostly unprotected, though the enemy seemed to be attempting to capture, rather than kill them. Those closer to the door were also being targeted, though they had a greater chance of escape.

Avatar maintained suppressing fire as much as possible, along with a Turian who had taken cover on the opposite side of the door. However, after only a few moments, another, recognizably different group of five hostiles arrived on the second floor, opposite from the exit. Unlike most of the hostiles, they were uniformed, and filed into the room with much more coordinated precision than the local guards. At their head was the Asari Avatar saw in the lounge, who quickly instructed her soldiers to take up positions along the railings. Unlike the other local guards, who were acting without apparent central organization, the Asari’s team waited for her order, which came only an instant later.

“Lock it down!” The Asari shouted, her gaze fixed on the open door. Avatar directed its combat drone to harass the leader and, at the same time, opened fire with its shotgun. The range at which it was engaging did diminish the effective impact of the shotgun blasts by approximately 23%, but even so, it detected less instability in her barriers than it would have expected. As well, she spotted the holographic orb immediately and dispatched it with a brief blast of biotic energy, before it could enter the range of its primary attack.

The Asari’s soldiers were coordinated in their attack. As Avatar focused on their leader, the Batarian to her left fired a single shot from a high-powered rifle which found its mark on Avatar’s shields and depleted them immediately. The Geth was already ducking back into its cover position, but the Turian on the Asari’s right side had been ready to exploit the opportunity. He carried a semi-automatic marksman rifle, the first shot of which hit Avatar’s left side in a spot analogous to the abdomen. The round punched a hole roughly six centimeters in diameter through its platform, causing a momentary loss of power to its left leg that threw it off balance. It began to fall, but fortunately, its momentum caused it to fall back into cover.

Avatar’s damage control efforts were immediate. It rerouted power around the damaged area through secondary circuits to regain control of its leg, then isolated and cut off the damaged tubes which were leaking conductive fluid out of the breach. Its self-repair systems also went into effect, though it could not fully-repair the hole without doing so manually. Avatar was again in full-control of its platform by the time it hit the ground, and it was well within acceptable operational capacity, but for any allied forces or noncombatants to survive, the door would need to be locked down quickly.
Meesei did not especially relish the thought of leaving Harriet when she was in such an emotional state, but Lorag and the other guards were there to keep watch over her. Lorag had shown the capability to fight her on his own, so with the help of the guards, Meesei doubted she would try anything.

As soon as Meesei entered the room with Sabine and Carana, she could see the state that Sabine was in. This test was weighing heavily on Sabine's mind, and while Meesei did not fully understand all of the dangers herself, she knew Sabine well enough to know to take them seriously. She met Sabine's eye contact with a short hug, trying to, just for a moment, get her mind off of the task.

When Meesei finally began to speak, her tone was caring, but unmistakably serious. "Sabine, what I am about to ask is very important. This test, it will give results that I would like to know, but by no means is this vital to the investigation. Even without testing the contents, the vial is usable evidence. If, at any point during this test, you feel that you are in danger, I want you to do anything you can to ensure you an Carana remain safe, even if it means abandoning the test. I want no one else to be harmed by this vile toxin. My question is can you ensure your safety? Please, be entirely truthful. I do not want you to take any risks for this, no matter how much you think it will help. If you do not believe you will be able to get out of harm's way if something goes wrong, then we will not do the test."
(Sorry, been away all day). I still think collabs are the best option for conversations, as it allows for a more flowing conversation without feeling compelled to add other fluff to give the post a decent length. For other things, though, I suppose it isn't much of a difference not to use one.
It takes no more time than if all the posts were separate. It means the final result doesn't go up until the end, which does lend to the perception that it takes longer. It does, however, allow things to flow better, especially conversation.
Hey Konan, Free, do you think we should make a short collab to wrap up things at the bandit camp?
"I am going nowhere, Harriet. At least, not permanently. If you do not wish to cooperate to build your case, that is your choice, but you are not in command of me. There is one more matter I must attend to before retiring for the night, but I will be coming back here." Meesei said calmly, but firmly. She stored away the rag, making sure to keep it separate from the vial. Likely, the rag itself would not be too useful as evidence, as it would undoubtedly pick up more scents, but she had more than enough witnesses that it did in fact hold Harriet's scent.

Meesei turned her attention to the others as she continued. "It is late, and it would be wise to be well-rested for the next few days. We will stay to the plan we made. We will rotate shifts for keeping watch, with at least two of us up at all times. If anything goes wrong, make sure to alert everyone immediately." She reiterated. Unless Harriet had any objections to Meesei's answer, she was about to go back to Sabine to allow her to begin her test. She did have one additional request to make of Sabine, though she doubted it was anything for which she would have to make any more safety precautions.
