Current I'm tempted to say "I've lost better friends than you" to a lote of people lately. I'm not sure what I ever want to say to the better friends that I've lost, though.

Bio

Twelve years ago, I said something on this website that continues to embarrassing me to this day. I was a stupid kid, like most, but I've never quite gotten the taste out of my mouth. Anyone who knew me at the time can tell you about it.

I love this website. I'm pretty sure my phylactery is stored wherever the webserver is and a significant chunk of me will just disappear when it ceases operation. Until then, it comforts me. I should go to the hardware store and paint my bedroom walls with the same soft, brownish grey that the background color has been for the last twelve years. Some of my friends can't wait for the site to go offline but I don't know of any other places that offer the same sense of community.

I'm an omni-gamer. I like board games, tabletop roleplaying games, admire tabletop war games, suck at riddles, and have an absurd library of video games. Survival horror is basically my favorite genre. Otherwise I'm a fan of esoteric, occult bullshit and punk rock. But disco's cool. Disco is what humanity sounds like when it chooses to be happy. Between you and I, I'd like to hope that the days of my life can sparkle like a disco ball, accreting like sparks from a grinder held up against the unwavering dark of deaths own shadow. Burn baby burn.

You and I, we're gonna die. We should be friends first, though. Write some checks we can't cash and make eachother smile. Make believe for a while.

Hello. I am seeking a group of 4-8 players. Dropouts are a part of life, so I won't stop more from applying. But if you are inclined to applying and disappearing, scroll offworld to better places.

Only Golden Agers, Residents of Earth-2, or JSA members will be considered. For ideas on who is available, you can check these lists.

Wonderful

[GM: Nightrunner | AGM: __]
[Genre: Fandom, Superhuman | Type: Linear]

Premise______

The Golden Age characters of DC Comics are to be reimagined in a paranoid world where Freedom and Security couldn't be more at odds. Public opinion and corporately puppeted media opposed to any major changes in the world have actually been ensuring that the rich grow steadily richer at the expense of the weak. Set in 2016, you are to play the role of a Wonder, one of the few superheroes willing to stand for true justice in an ominous age.

While this game shares the name of the DC Comics series and borrows several concepts, it is not set to follow that continuity or any other preexisting storyline.

Setting______

On September 11 2001 America changed forever, and the world as a whole would soon follow suit. The security people had found diminished after the twin towers dropped, crashing down and shattering racial, religious, and social tolerances. Years would pass and the American Government put a stranglehold on its people and foreigners all over with the NSA, watching their every move.

The United Nations around the globe were disturbed by this, so in 2012 they forcibly disbanded the United States of America before swallowing each isolated state up with a global army that did the same to every country. All military assets were confiscated before being redistributed by The World Government. Peace was thrusted down the people's throats and between governments, the long sought dream of world peace was realized.

But free will allowed countless injustices between corruption and small scale actions. An alien named Kal-L had landed on Earth decades ago, growing up among the people and steadily increasing in power. Diana Prince, an Amazonian warrior from a paradise island of women came to the Western World. And Bruce Wayne, an orphaned billionaire with an extreme amount of resources presented himself as a symbol of vengeance, The Batman. These were foremost among the world's new wonders, iconic spectacles dedicated to truth & justice.

In 2015 the three wonders of the world joined the World Army in a fight against superhuman invaders from a distant world. These were the armies of Apokalypse, under their evil leader Darkseid and an army under the command of his general, Steppenwolf. The world was saved, but left with more scars than by any other conflict.

The invasion sparked global interest in aliens, meta-humans, and masked individuals. So the watchful eye of The World Government has set its sights on the wonders, creating its own projects for a superpowered workforce.

Regarding 'Wonders':
  • The Justice Society has not been formed, but will be composed of player characters.
  • Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman live.
  • Meta-Humans are relatively rare, which is why they are considered wonders. For instance, Two-Face would not count as a Wonder, unless you really changed who he typically is.
  • Wonders are a new feature to the world.

Regarding the World Government:
  • Though the entire world is under their rule, laws are set in place for specific regions.
  • With few exceptions the areas retain their previous names, but generally lack borders.
  • They can be thought of as an equivalent to Marvel's SHIELD. Their group of meta-humans, which will debut in the IC, can be likened to The Ultimates or the modern Avengers teams.
  • They are not ruled by Americans, but are manipulated by the wealthiest people in the world, which does not actually include Bruce Wayne.
Do you prefer threads? I do. I can start one from Bruce's perspective and let you paint your status quo as Matt to start. Is there a title that sticks out to you?

Blind as a bat?

| Name: |
Enrique Isaiah Esteban Alonso

| Alias: |
The Ghost of The Batman

| Age: |
25

| Appearance: |

Enrique has characteristically dark, curly hair and peach toned skin. He has a thin face that comes to a pointed chin. His brown eyes are small, seeming to take up no space at all. Right beneath them are his high cheekbones, just above his pointed nose, shaped like an arrowhead. In general he wears white T-shirts and khaki pants.

| Abilities/Skills: |
Enrique is very strong and physically fit. He is also agile and quick on his feet. These come from needing them to survive. With a choice between fight or flight, he will usually choose flight. Living in the dangerous superprison, he has learned to run away very effectively, climbing gates and ignoring deterrents like barbed wire. In time, these skills could be reversed to make him effective at pursuit on foot as well as combat. But at the moment, he is a clumsy fighter, which adds to the vicious cycle of growing more skilled at escape.

He has a very gifted intelligence and great degree of creativity, which are both often underestimated because of racial prejudice. He has a superb attention to detail which he's used to set up several elaborate shows, pretending to be the spirit of the long dead Batman through use of rigged microphones and recordings, preset traps, and smoke pellets. He has no general supplies besides regular tools (Utility Knife, Screwdrivers, Wire Strippers, etc.). Additionally, he's used dummies and disguised mannequins to present a warped version of the Batman's silhouette.

| Backstory: |
Enrique Isaiah Esteban Alonso was the son of Miguel Esteban Cortez & Maria Alonso Guerrero, a Mexican couple who'd illegally immigrated to the United States in the first place. Unlike anyone seeking a better life, they'd come seeking fantastic amounts of money through dealings with drug traffickers. They went as far as Louisiana before the world changed forever. His parents ended up working in Jokerland, becoming only shells of their former selves. Thirteen years into the new world they had a daughter named Maria. Twelve years later they were surprised to have a son, Enrique.

Seven years after Enrique was born, his sister was beaten savagely and sold to Pandemonium for reasons unshared. This left a deep emotional scar on Enrique, who felt hopeless and lonely. For years he had a fear of the Joker, before it festered into hatred. He was made braver when one of his friends told him a story.

All throughout the shantytowns of Jokerland, legends of The Batman, a mysterious beast who'd always defeated the Joker were whispered in private. Enrique knew next to nothing of the Batman, but he found something spectacular. When his parents visited Towers Fall, taking him along, he found something in the dirt. It was a batarang. Rusty, bent, and completely misshapen. But it was proof to Enrique that hope still existed.

When they returned to Louisiana, Enrique was a new person. He set up several points around his region, using old car stereos and an old mp3 player to create an audible illusion that they were surrounded by an unreasonably fast observer. He'd stenciled out several batarangs and thrown them. He even set a few explosions with gasoline and lighters connected to strings. With some effort, and the proper setting, he convinced the local that the Southern tip of Jokerland was haunted by The Ghost of Batman.

He did not do this often or on the spot. He'd always ambushed Harlequins or set a scene to play out while he was hiding. They were small scale enough to avoid scrutiny, but public enough to make a splash. He'd often chosen to interrupt beatings, abuse of authority, or other instances of injustice.

Realizing that he could make a difference, he overestimated himself and openly insulted The Joker before being beaten and shipped to Pandemonium. But, in the time since he's been imprisoned, nine years, he's been trying to find his sister by networking. Given the setting, he's been laying low, while still occasionally performing and creating the illusion of The Bat's Ghost. Despite his showmanship, his job is blue collar as can be, making bricks.

Fifty years ago in Northern Mexico, one particular water fountain had been refreshing to the people. A two foot tall ceramic wall wound around a pristine pool filled with countless coins that glittered beneath the water's surface. In it's center a beautiful carving of a marble mermaid smiled at passersby.

Fifty years later the temperature was twice as hot as it had been previously. The mermaid had been disfigured long ago. Instead of water, the fountain spat flaming oil skyward, sometimes a stray wind would carry it to an unsuspecting laborer while anyone who helped him was forced to share in his suffering.

Just outside the fountain, a taskmaster was howling at his workers to convince them to carry on in their work, making bricks out of mud. The fountain's heat was used to cook the bricks, hardening them. This was where Enrique worked every day.

"Alonso, time could shape the bricks faster than you," the overseer prodded. "I'd say these bricks must take a year, because you're weak!"

"Yes sir," he said, dragging his fingers down the sides of the nearest square of mud. He picked it up and rushed it over to the outdoor 'oven' before kicking his previous blocks away with the bottom of his shoe. When he got back, he set them to cool on a rack, picking them up using a glove shared with other workers.

While by the rack, he stole an extra moment to lay a red and black wire beneath the bricks and away from the heat. Slowly but surely, he'd been piecing together a surround sound system surrounding his workplace.

Despite the impersonation of Batman's ghost, I don't mean for this character to be an outright Bat-like, at least in the usual sense. I don't intend for him to dress up as The Bat anytime soon, but I figured that something like this could probably happen without being a problem. In a very direct sense, he could be useful to the party for distractions.

I'm an A&W Root Beer guzzler who prefers that brand over virtually all other sodas.
Is the pad something everyone else knows about or do you just prefer it over an offline word processor?
Indeed. So, would you rather be Matt or Bruce? They are my (count 'em) two favorite superheroes.
I like it. Genuinely think it's way better than what you were going with before.
Name: Raymond Tyler
Alias: Time Bomb
Age: 17
Sponsor: Blue Beetle

Personality: Snarky, Opportunistic, and Goal-Oriented

Powers As a result of his forefathers ingesting so much Miraclo, he was born with a fraction of its effects, such as superior strength, speed, stamina, and agility. This does not diminish or nullify the benefit of using the improved formula of the drug himself. When on Miraclo, his strength, speed, stamina, agility, and thinking abilities are improved. His perception of time is even slowed. And the effects begin to weaken, depending on how much he exerts himself, around an hour after ingestion. His homemade gadgetry includes: Flash-bombs, smoke canisters, Miraclo dispensers, lock-picks, a pocket knife, & hand-cuffs,.

Weaknesses Unsurprisingly, he has a secret addiction to Miraclo, which his predecessors hadn't shared their experiences with. The withdrawal is brutal, causing agonizing headaches and random blackouts along with general physical weakness.

Appearance As Raymond he generally wears hooded jackets, cargo pants, and running shoes. He has short brown hair, Caucasian skin, brown eyes, a round nose and box-shaped face. He stands roughly 5'11" and has very visible musculature.

BRIEF Bio: Rex Tyler was a pharmaceutical engineer hired to reverse-engineer a tribal formula that gave the users superhuman fitness. His biggest hang up was that his employers were the military. Unwilling to allow the blend to be applied to widespread murder, he purposefully sabotaged the project before being relieved of his position. Once dismissed, he moved to Appleton City to join their police force, putting Miraclo, as he called it, to good use. Later on, his son Rick took a similar course. In his lifetime, Rick refined the formula and optimized its effects.

Raymond 'Ray' Tyler was born in the summer of 2003 to Rick Tyler, the second person to develop Miraclo, and biological son of the original. He long admired their records of service on the police department. Naturally, he aspired to follow in their footsteps, seeing it as his heritage to become a policeman aided by Miraclo. At eight years old, he was constantly being bullied, so he fought back, injuring them unintentionally and being withdrawn from the public school system.

The family moved to Metropolis in 2016, causing Ray to lose touch with all of his friends and causing him to grow socially awkward. His own emotions betrayed him and he needed something to take the edge off, and neither of his forefathers seemed too keen on giving him a supply of Miraclo. So he started crimefighting in the style of Batman, purchasing and designing his own gadgets, outfits, and accessories.

It didn't take the world's greatest detective to figure out what Ray was doing, so Rick decided to allow his son to experience the life of a superhero. Between the two of them, he was jokingly referred to as a ticking Time-Bomb before it became completely obvious that he was in it for the long haul. When he turned sixteen, Rick taught his son how to manufacture Miraclo from a special blend of rare vitamins and common substances.

After a year had passed by and Rick officially gave Ray his blessing as Time Bomb, providing him with his own costume.

A river of thick smoke pressed down an alleyway, suffocating a trio of armed thieves that were caught entirely off guard. They gagged and sputtered, struggling to take in a breath, but fell to their knees. One of them managed to reach for their gun, but wasn't able to prepare himself for the bumble-bee striped blur that bounced on him, smacking the thug's head into the concrete they'd stood on.

"Excellent work," the voice of the Blue Beetle broke the silence that Ray had built.

"Oh, hello there," Ray answered, slightly spooked. Stating the obvious, he said "I didn't realize you'd tagged along. I guess you still got it."

"More or less," the elder hero shrugged his shoulders. "But I watched you tonight, and after the last few days you've had, I think Hourman is ready to hit the big leagues."

"Really!" Ray's eyes opened like the Red Sea.

"Of course. There's a new project. Of course I can't offer you full League membership, yet, but I can fast track you."

"I'm listening."

"Join a group of other rising teens to help out on a wider scale. I won't be on top of you, and as annoying as the people you're going to meet may be, it'll be a lot like the actual League."
I must've been the only guy to actually like The Superior Spider-Man series. I feel Otto Octavius really lived up to his billing. NOW's Uncanny X-Men was great, as was All New. But I haven't read much else lately besides Secret Wars #1. I wanted to read Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan), but it's unavailable to me. I stopped reading Ultimate Spider-Man after they killed Peter Parker. But the Daredevil series is a definite recommendation. No question.

Despite the fantastic ongoing Daredevil series, I prefer DCs concepts.
I've completed my sheet to my satisfaction for now. You guys can scrutinize it. I'd expect some flack because it's direct emulation of The Batman, but I'm curious if anything else stands out. My honest inspiration was The Ghost Army of WWII.
