Well, then they'll likely have a bomb blow up in their faces, since she's not necessarily a soft target.
That wouldn't go so well I reckon.
It's acceptable, but it gives the impression that your character has the priorities of Steiner in which case he'd fight his own men if it meant protecting the Princess.
It might, who knows? (Though ol' Rusty fought the thieves before noticing the bomb. Minerva isn't quite as much of a buffoon.)
Handle the immediate danger first, then handle the thieves. :3
