Chas listened to what John was saying, nodding finding that the more they found out about Kay, the more tragic it was sounding. Yet he also knew if anyone could help her it would be John. He also agreed that Serena's partial story was indeed very concerning at the same time. "I can't imagine what it must be like to have your entire life in one beaten up bag. Its a miracle that bag is even still together. As for Serena I agree, we need to try and find out from her what is hunting her and something tells me they both were meant to be found by us for a reason." he replied, seeing Serena get up from the couch." it'll be the concussion John, it was a pretty nasty gash on the back of her head" he reasoned as he saw Kay help Serena to the table.

Kay helped Serena incase she would fall, knowing if the woman was to fall she would instantly grab her to stop her hitting her head yet again. In her eyes it was the least she could do after Serena saved her life. At the table she sat down, her bag by her feet. Unapologetically she wasted no time in grabbing the cutlery and started eating, practically wolfing down the food which just emphasised how long it had been since she last ate anything. Seeing someone eat in such a way was just all the more heartbreaking to Chas, maybe it was because he was a father and although Kay was clearly in her thirties, he couldn't help but see what he was through paternal eyes. "there's more if you want it" he told Kay and Serena but was mostly aiming it at Kay in the hopes that it would encourage her to slow down which she did do. "sorry, I haven't eaten anything in three days" she admitted sheepishly. "anything??" Chas asked surprised, Kay shaking her head, "not a thing. I tried to get something by stealing but was caught" she explained. She never liked stealing but when homeless on the streets it really was the only option when no one was donating anything on the days she was practically begging. "when you're homeless you're trash, people would rather see you starve to death in a ditch than help" she added.
Hearing John telling her she needs to stop running showed Kay that yes, he had been in direct contact with Fee and she couldn't just pretend that it didn't just happen. She wasn't however expecting to hear that Fee was a part of her, and in turn, she was Fee. It seemed so mind boggling to her that that was the case but at the same time it seemed to make more sense than her being skitzophrenic like the many doctors tried to convince she was. If someone had told her even a year ago that she would find John's explanation a lot more convincing and believable than what doctors tried telling her constsntly she probably would have laughed at them and told them they were the insane ones. Yet here she was right now after what she had been through and witnessed, believing the man. She nodded at his words, deciding that yes, she would indeed think it over. She got up as John helped her up still reluctant to leave her bag unattended. She felt like if she let that go, she'd lose absolutely everything and after two years on the streets it was a habit so deeply ingrained into her, it would be difficult to just drop. As much as she was craving a shower, food was definitely her priority in this moment, so heading to the kitchen was a welcome choice.

On the way she briefly stopped to smile back at Serena. "thank you, for everything. And I'm sorry this is what happened to you for helping me" she told her honestly before deciding to answer her questions, "I feel like I can finally get answers here and I somehow believe we will be safe here" she replied unaware that John was asking Chas about Serena at the same time. "she muttered about sensing the danger that was following Kay. I'm guessing there's probably more to it but she didn't say. She did seem glad to help Kay out though, to make sure she was safe. She also tried insisting that she should leave as it and I quote 'I can't stay here, I don't want to put the flamed one in more danger' take that as you will. But I convinced her to stay long enough to rest up and eat as I wouldn't be surprised if she has a concussion from the gash on her head" he explained, putting down bowls on the kitchen table, enough for all four of them. "what about Kay? You get anything that we didn't possibly overhear? She looks like she hasn't a normal bed for who knows how long, and the way she's clutching her bag isn't going amiss either" he added, but speaking just a bit quieter than before so only John could hear him.
"I haven't told her because she barely listens to me at the best of times. She's extremely stubborn when she wants to be but I can't blame her too much for it. Those she trusts leave her. I wish to fight however and I have done on an occasion unbeknownst to her. No amount of fighting so far has worked. Maybe she will listen to you where she tries to ignore me." Fee explained. She did honestly agree with John for the most part but she also knew and could feel how running was Kay's go to. In Kay's opinion if she did the running and leave people then no one can leave and hurt her. It was an incredibly lonely way of looking at things, but Kay saw no other way. So Fee hoped that John explaining it would make Kay listen for once and agree to doing the right thing. "I know we used to be feared, I know it all too well. I am willing to let you help Kay and make us one if you can do such a thing" she added. Before John could reply to her, she let Kay have control once more, her eyes fading from the golden shade to the usual grey blue. Lay held the side of her head. "Bloody hell, I wish she'd give me the heads up before taking over" she complained.

As they were talking Chas kept talking with Serena, hearing what she was muttering about how Kay wouldn't be safe if she was to stay in this house. He shook his head vigorously, making sure she stayed sat down. "not in your state are you leaving. Just do me a favour and stay here at least for tonight. That head injury possibly could have given you a concussion and you look just as worn out and indeed of food as Kay does. So rest up, please?" he replied to Serena, knowing he wouldn't live with himself if he let either woman out of this house in their states. He looked up as he realised the food should be ready by now. "the food is ready, so please stay put?" he asked once more, wanting to make sure she wouldn't attempt a runner the moment his back was turned. "you are safe here Serena, no one can get to this place unless John says so. It's heavily protected with sigils and if its really needed he's able to put a cloaking spell on it. Besides, I think Kay would appreciate it" he explained, hoping this would reassure her a bit more.
John's reasons for wanting to know were valid and logical in Kay's mind. He was after all only asking questions she wanted full answers to herself. She wanted to know why it always hurt hearing Fee in her head, or why there'd be times when she would lose time or end up in a place she had no idea how she got there. She was however always too stubborn to ever ask Fee for answers as she didn't went the migraines it would no doubt bring. "makes sense" she simply said before that seeing headache started coming on and Fee was scolding her for talking to John. As Chas continued to see to Serena, he did keep one ear on John and Kay out of curiosity, but his main focus was always on Serena, eventually managing to patch her up. "there, you should be good now and we're glad you helped her and John get away. We've had a hell of a time with demons lately so it was nice to have backup even if it was unexpected" he told her with a smile.

As John tried getting through to Fee, Kay tried to repress her but it did no good. Fee won over, looking at John with burning golden eyes rather than Kay's grey blue ones. "I can hear you John. I am the very being of her phoenix soul. Consider me the other half as it were. A half that is yet to be fully connected to Kay's human soul. I am her and she is me but we are fractured due to her being born of a human father and Fira, the original phoenix of Paradise. The one who was scorned by Eve herself and cursed to forever be reborn and never die" Fee explained, her tone deeper and more ethereal sounding in comparison to Kay's accent that was a blend of British and American due to her two upbringing. "I shouldn't have to explain to you how that makes Kay rarer than any other phoenix that has come into existence since and Hell would love nothing more than to get their claws on her. I have kept this information from Kay to protect her." Fee continued on as she felt Kay fighting back for control.
The fact that John could give her a very educated guess on what was happening to her and that the voice wasn't her going utterly insane was of some relief. She didn't need him to say Fee wasn't evil, that much she figured out for herself but it was nice for the validation none the less. With him asking if Fee could hear him, she was certain she could but she honestly couldn't say for certain, sometimes it was like Fee was asleep when she was in utter control of herself. She didn't flinch or lean back when John looked at her closely, figuring he was still sussing her out, just as she was sussing him out still. "I don't know for sure, but I'd presume so. She has moments where she'll be quiet if I've ignored her." she explained.

Chas nodded, glad that they have a name for the other girl finally, "nice to meet you Serena." he said, checking her head over and seeing the cut on it. He opened the first aid kit, immediately getting out what he'd need and saw to her wound whilst John without even turning his head told Serena it was pointless trying to retreat back into her shadows. "this is a safe place Serena and Kay is safe also" Chas explained calmly. "he's right, I'm okay" Kay spoke up to her, before turning back to John to continue their conversation. "she might come forward if she can be convinced to do so. Fee that is...its strange, she's a voice in my head but nis somehow highly protective of me" she then said to John, deciding if she was going to talk about Fee then she may as well give a fair amount of information. It was then she winced as she clutched the side of her head, "stop telling him so much information Kay! I can't protect you if you disclose everything to a handsome face" Fee spoke in her mind.
Kay was surprised that such things really did exist in the world and even more so that John wasn't phased by it in the slightest. She nodded in understanding that she was wanted because of her bloodline and eternal flame would be highly sought after. At the request of wanting to know about the voice in her head, or Fee as she called it, she had to smirk ever so slightly at his curiosity to what it always said. "I call her Fee. And a little bit of everything. Warnings, chit chat if she feels like it to keep me company and more often than not moaning at me and my choices of sleeping places" she replied. She hoped he was right about being safe in this place, but something in her heart told her she could indeed trust his word on this one thing. "thank you" she said simply before looking at the girl on the couch stirring awake.

When John spoke up to him, Chas turned round and walked over after grabbing the first aid kit just incase he decides it was needed. "I'm on it, and I've got food on as well, shouldn't be long." he replied, reaching the girl who saved Kay and John. "hi, I'm Chas, mind if I check your head?" he asked her.
Kay watched and listened as John pulled out a cigarette to smoke, unable to not think how ironic it was that her of all people supposedly tied to fire got saved by a smoker. She found it interesting that this girl who initially helped them both and helped her shouldn't exist, she was found it questionable, but then she found herself questionable. She simply nodded at his words and went I side with him as Chas picked up the other girl and carried her inside. Even before John magically put the fire on she felt it was warmer than it was outside. She gladly sat in front of the fireplace, handing him back his coat as she kept hers on and held her bag close to her. "not sure where to start to be honest. It's a long story. My mum died when I was nine and my dad walked out because of it, leaving me in the house alone. I would have been in care if it wasn't for my best mate's folks adopting me. I spent a few years in Seattle growing up, but that wasn't easy. Got put into hospital because no one believed I could hear this voice in my head that gives me intense migraines. I only got out because I lied about not hearing it anymore." she began saying, "early twenties I went back to the UK with my now sister to study art, but two years ago I had to flee because our dorm room mate Ethan out of nowhere tried to attack me when he saw me in my room, wings out. Tried remaining incognito but it didn't work and now it seems those.. People... Demons.. Whatever you call them have tracked me back here in the States. I got no home, my only belongings in this bag and I have no idea if my family are even still alive. I have no idea what I truly am, you say I'm a phoenix? But they're of myth and legends.." she finished saying.

Chas let John talk with Kay as he carried the girl inside and placed her down on the couch before heading to the kitchen to get some food on the go. As per usual there was barely anything in the cupboards making him roll his eyes whilst his back to turned to everyone else. He managed to find some stuff to make a quick batch of noodles in a broth whilst eavesdropping on the conversation.
When John and Chas spoke about feeding her like she wasn't there in earshot, Kay rolled her eyes. Sure she was starving, cold and wet but she wasn't some stray animal. She was still very much a person and she silently took some kind of resentment that they were talking like she wasn't there instead of including her on the conversation. She grabbed her beaten up brown leather satchel that had scuffs and holes in it from years of use and got out the cab with John's help as she slung her bag over her shoulder. All her possessions was in that bag, everything she had left of her life before being on the streets so she wasn't going to just leave it unattended. She nodded her thanks as he added his coat over hers, walking to the house that she took note of. Of all the kinds of places she could picture a man like John Constantine owning. She didn't put him as the type to own a building that looked like a woodland cottage or farm house. As he said about waiting for him to unlock and light up the place before entering, she stood with Chas to wait until John came back and guided her into the home, her unexpectantly standing over a seal until it activated and ripped her other ally from her shadow.

Seeing the girl on the floor after being slammed into the wall and knocked out, she looked slightly wide eyed. This was the first time she had the figure as an actual person and seeing for the first time the young woman who kept her company until John and Chas' arrival. At John's question she shrugged, "I'm guessing friend.. But.. She's not a friend friend. This is the first time I've seen her like... This" she explained, waving her hand above the girl's body to mean her solid form. "she found me only minutes before you did, tried to help in keeping me dry... I don't know how she found me or why she felt the need to help me" she continued to explain. "she told me not to say anything to you which is why I lied initially. Said she couldn't let you see her but I don't know why" she added to him, wondering why she was being so truthful to him when she wouldn't normally. She usually had much better survival and defensive behaviour than this, but here she was just being openly truthful which made no sense to her. Chas listened to everything that she was saying, getting the feeling that she was telling his friend the truth, "I believe her John" he said.
The moment John jumped into the cab, Chas made no delay in getting out of the alleyway and heading straight back to John's place. He didn't wait to watch on as the shadows attacked the demon and made a break for it, following his cab. To him it was far more important to escape the scene than deal with more demons and judging by Kay's reaction to everything she thought the same thing. He took note of her state, how wet and dirty she had become, seeing for himself that she must have been on the streets for a long time. Not only that, the girl was thin making him wonder when the last time she actually had a proper meal inside her was. He truly felt sorry for her but he wasn't going to say that out loud now John was in the cab. He let John talk with the woman as well as introducing himself again to her, to which she re introduced herself back, "Kay.. Kay Hale and thank you" she said before John was turning to him and explaining what it was he had in the back of his cab. "a phoenix?! You mean...the mythical bird of fire and rebirth? The oldest known creature to man??" he asked, glancing St Kay in the back, seeing how she was staring out the window. As the men spoke Kay remained quiet, listening to them talk as the heating in the cab warmed her and the shadows returned to her, swirling round her hand. Glancing down, she acknowledged discreetly the shadows return before looking back out the window again, her eyes getting heavy as the warmth caressed her, lulling her into a tired state despite being incredibly hungry. She couldn't even retort to anything John and Chas were saying about her, just glad that the shadows and herself were safe finally.

Chas drove back to John's place and pulled up outside, turning the engine off. "I'll come in with both of you. Something tells me Kay here is going to need some good in her" he said, acting like if it wasn't for him then John probably wouldn't even have food in his kitchen, let alone actually eat properly. It was at that point of hearing the word 'food' out loud that Kay's stomach growled.
Kay didn't complain about John stepping between her and the demon. She was more than happy to just make a run for it just like she always did. It was all she knew to do. Running mesnt surviving and surviving meant seeing another day roll round and live another shit life. Though if what this demon was saying was true, then living a shit life was a damn sight better than being dragged to Hell and being used or tortured or whatever else this demon had in store for her. She listened as John insisted she was to stay with him, nodding at his words about making a run for the cab the moment she could. The demon smirked at John's words, "fine by me! A battle for the phoenix sounds like fun!" he boasted, ready to go in for the attack when many shadows suddenly surrounded him, making him growl in annoyance as he struggled from the constricting feeling around him. "don't need to tell me twice" Kay commented, making a run for the cab and before she could even second guess her decision making, got into the back of it. Yet she watched on by leaning forward as the shadows that stayed with her fought to hold the demon at bay. "please be okay, I owe you big time" she thought to herself, hoping that John would be coming to the safety of the cab as well. There was just so much going on that she couldn't even properly compute that the demon called her a phoenix. If she had she probably would have fainted from the realisation she was a living breathing mythical creature and not a normal person. "he'll be just fine, he does this for a living" Chas finally spoke up to her after taking in the fact that Kay had the most vibrant hair he's ever seen and something told him it wasn't a dye job. Yet he was also shocked that she didn't have the wings he saw when they first pulled up into the alleyway. Unlike Kay and John, he didn't hear what the demon called her so he was utterly oblivious to what he had in his cab. "he does?" she asked, Chas nodding, "he does. And I'm guessing the stupid git didn't even tell you my name, just to get in my cab?" he replied, Kay had to smirk ever so slightly at the comment, "got it in one. I'm Kay by the way" she replied to him, getting a much friendlier and laid back vibe from Chas than she did from John. "Chas" he introduced himself. He then wound down the window and leaned out of it, "John get your bloody arse in this cab or I'm leaving without you!" he shouted at him, wo sering what the hell was going on with the shadows.
