Yumi didn't know whether to be saddened or humored by seeing Viral like this. He was almost drunk without even having touched a single drop of alcohol, she didn't exactly know what to make of it. In this state at least he wasn't a danger to himself or anyone else. She was pretty sure he didn't have the coordination or capacity to cause any sort of harm, aside from making comments about some people's ears. Asking questions seemed kind of like a bad idea right now, Viral couldn't answer them really. She was going to just remain quiet then, until Viral spoke up again about wanting to forget things. Watching him reach out she frowned, reaching out in turn and grabbing his paw. "Come on Viral, things are going to turn out alright, just you watch," she said, smiling gently. "Vegeta is finally going to help, and the rest of us will be here to help too. Don't you want to get better?" He'd been 'ill' for so long Yumi wondered if Viral even knew what it was like to be healthy anymore. That more than anything saddened her, considering Viral was family as far as she was concerned. Putting on a smile for his sake she let go of his paw, turning around and walking backwards to face him. "Once you get better maybe you can teach me how all these new bits of me work. That is, if I don't get changed back too."

"We'll just use the training hall we always do. Might as well, I doubt anyone's down there." The twins were probably cooking, Kabocha was doing who knows what, and Viral, Yumi and Vegeta were off doing their own thing too. That big room would be theirs for the taking, to do whatever they wanted with it. This was pretty cool, being able to have conversations with T'charrl like this. It was a far cry from being fluent, but it was an improvement big time from where he had been. Everything was settled then, but their friend had something else to say, and not very clear at that. Glancing back confused Takeshi frowned, relieving an itch on his nose, "Uh... You being yes, or right? If you're worrying about something happening then don't, it'll be fine. We'll just be careful if we gotta, that's all. Right Shu?" Just like they were mindful not to provoke Shu they would do the same for T'charrl, easy as that. Worst case scenario if the Kaesstrian did change then at least they were in an empty room to deal with him. "Things are going to be just fine, don't worry so much, you know? I feel like you worrying is part of what might make you change, the stress and all that. So lighten up T'charrl," he added, smiling in a friendly manner, "We're going to have fun, not stress about stuff."
"Saying goodbye is a waste of breath, you're not going anywhere anytime soon," Vegeta said, "And mind who you call a halfbreed. Nearly everyone within our friends are a halfbreed in some manner or another. In fact... You're even more than just two halves." There he went being overly explanatory per usual. Little boy, was it? Chuckling faintly beneath his breath he shook his head, glancing at the unsteady Beastman. "Why don't we just focus on walking right now, hm? You can argue with me all you want after we get to the mess hall." Given a bit of time the medicine would wear off and Viral was likely to forget this conversation anyways, Vegeta wasn't too concerned over it. All they had to do was entertain their friend for the time being and keep him from wandering off in his lucid state. A walk in silence might be the best thing for now, the Beastman was scarcely in the state of mind to hold a full conversation. Yumi had a question for Viral however, and not an easy one at that. Vegeta opened his mouth to answer but found himself cut off and beat to the punch.

Yumi tried not to think about her ears too much, and had gotten fairly good at ignoring them. Viral bringing them up reminded her of her self-consciousness towards them, which in turn made her abashed. They were a hassle, even if they were handy. Showering and brushing her hair was such a mess now, she constantly got water or shampoo in her ears and would poke and tug on them when she was brushing. Maybe she should start putting sandwich baggies or something over them, just something to keep them safe. Discussing her new appearance wasn't any fun, so instead she asked a burning question, wanting to know more about what was going on with the rebels. Since Viral had the military expertise here he seemed the best to answer, even in his state. Normally yes, he would be the best person to go to about this. After hearing out his explanation she was left even more confused than she was to begin with. "I.. Uh... No, I don't hate you?" Yumi said, sounding properly confused. Looking at Vegeta for help she glanced back at Viral, scratching at her cheek, "Uh... The stars getting revenge? I don't think that works... Or makes any sense..."

"Viral is just saying it wouldn't be beyond the Saiyans to do that," Vegeta explained, smiling slightly amused, "At least, I think that's the gist of it. With the rebels on their doorstep though I can't see the King diminishing his own ranks, even if they are grunts. If the war turns into one of attrition then lessening his numbers isn't going to do him any favors." Viral could give a more concise answer were he not struggling simply to walk right now. More on topic, Vegeta wasn't going to put too much stock into the war right now. If the rebels needed aid they would ask, and unless the flagship was destroyed they would be able to establish contact. So the fact things had been silent was indicative that the situation had either died down completely or was under control.

If T'charrl was coming along then they could teach him to talk too. Not that Vegeta wasn't already doing so, but Takeshi figured he and Shu could help the process along. Takeshi could teach their friend all sorts of words, like some of those bad words that Shu was so abhorrently against. Stepping over and prodding the Kaesstrian he suggested that very idea, only to have it immediately shot down by his brother. "Eh? Spoilsport..." he mumbled, sticking out his tongue. "Vegeta's not the boss of me, if I want to do it then I could, you know." Except Yumi would probably find out as well. Vegeta he didn't mind, but Yumi had that knack for scaring him. If he was going to do this, it would have to be sneakily. Giving T'charrl room to come out, Takeshi glanced at Shu for a moment before cocking his head, giving it a thoughtful scratching. "Hm... I guess the usual training hall would work. It should be all fixed up and I doubt anyone is down there training, so we can probably go use it for as long as we want." That also meant they could get as serious as they wanted or goof off as much as they wanted. Somehow he and Shu always ended up just playing while they were training, and T'charrl likely wouldn't hate being involved in some games of theirs.
Yumi beamed when she heard progress was being made with Viral. It had been a long, painstaking road for him and at last Vegeta sounded optimistic about something. He had said not to get overly excited, but she couldn't help herself. "Viral, that's great! Soon you'll be back to your regular old self!" And they could get back to all the fun of training together and taking on enemies side by side. She really did miss fighting alongside Viral, they hadn't done so properly since Earth far as she could recall. Well, there was that giant monster they fought too, but she'd evidently been knocked out for part of that fight, so some partnership that had been. The 'woman' comment made her mouth twitch slightly in irritation, but she bit it back knowing the Beastman was on medication. That slipped by, but then Viral insulted her ears. Huffing reached up, touching her ears possessively. "They're not THAT big! I think they're no bigger than my human ears!" Yumi retorted, frowning before looking at Viral. "What do you mean lose your mind...? I thought you were going to get better, what's this about dying?"

"Don't worry about it Yumi. He's in a rut, but I give you my word he's going to be fine." Vegeta said, sighing to himself, "Viral, there's no need to worry Yumi. Now come on, let's get something to eat." Whether he liked it or not they were dining together, and Yumi was likely joining them. Fine by him, it had been a while since they'd eaten together, just the three of them. Granted one of them wasn't all there right now, off in his own little world, but Viral was with them in spirit. Using himself to support the Beastman, Vegeta led him along gradually, keeping their pace slow as not to rush things. "But yeah... If this gene therapy is successful I may be able to do the same to undo changes too. That means I can revert you back to a regular human, rather than this... Well half-breed, I suppose."

Hm... Being fully human again. Yumi actually had to think about that, whether she wanted it or not. Sure, the ears were still taking some getting used to, but they had proven useful several times. Her senses were well enhanced beyond normal human capacity as well, so there was that going for it. The downsides were probably the weakening of her Ki, something that she'd picked up on during her last training session. It was still there, she could use it unlike Viral, but it almost felt suppressed. So she was trading raw, natural power for her energy, and it was hard to say if that was a good trade off or not. "Let me think about it, I don't know just yet," Yumi answered, smiling as she folded her hands behind her back. He was still out of it, but Yumi felt the urge to talk with Viral, about anything really. They never really talked any more, maybe he'd be willing to for that reason too. "So... Viral. What do you think is causing so much trouble for the rebels and Saiyans? Think maybe the king is just pulling a trick on us? Sacrificing his own men for a distraction maybe? I've tried reading up on military tactics, and I guess one way to do things is to sacrifice your own troops to lull the enemy into security. Kind of a cold way to fight, don't you think?"

Takeshi gave a roll of his eyes, sticking his tongue out childishly at Shu. If he was going to use his words against him then fine, he just wouldn't speak. Then again he had to call for T'charrl, so being silent was a no go. At least their friend didn't come to the door on his hands and knees this time, that was weird. Perhaps this time he would be more willing to come along with them too seeing as Haku wasn't tagging along. He'd debated about inviting the other boy again, but figured after the last 'success' at dinner he'd give it some time. "Yeah, train and practice!" he repeated, grinning proudly. Well damn, T'charrl could really speak now. He still had an odd accent, but Takeshi chalked that up to just being a Kaesstrian. Not everyone sounded the same after all. Moving back to give their friend some room he arched an eyebrow, surprised there was more T'charrl had to say. "Yeah, yeah you sound good. We can understand you perfectly," he replied, giving a thumbs up, "Those lessons are paying off big time. Soon you'll be talking as well as Shu!" Smirking he stepped closer, giving T'charrl a slight nudge in the arm with his elbow. "I can even teach you a few 'special' words if you want."
"You're not doomed. When I start to sound pessimistic then worry, because I'll let you know if things progress to that point. Stop assuming the worst." Realistically Viral's situation was much better than he acknowledged. He had the care he needed to at least be stable, now too they were going to begin making progress towards recovery. Not only that, but he had a support system consisting of several people. Not that his pride would ever let him openly ask for help, but there were half a dozen people here who would come to his aid. Vegeta would give him that it was difficult to see the positives when depressed, but regardless they were still there. "Your mind is not going to be gone, I'll make certain of that. And if you mean your bed..." he paused, gesturing over to it, "But we'll walk. Come on, I'll give you a hand." Back again to supporting Viral, Vegeta slung one of his friend's arms over his shoulders, letting him lean for support. The ward could stay as it was for the time being, he'd be back after they ate. Opening up the door he began to step out, stopping abruptly when they nearly ran into Yumi. "Oh, Yumi. I didn't know you were out here."

Yumi wasn't wholly sure what to do with herself right now. Choi and Kai were back into training with Kabocha tagging along, and she had little desire to get in the middle of that. Shu and Takeshi were busy as well with their own training, and T'charrl had asked to be alone for a while. The only people she could really pay a visit then were Viral and Vegeta, provided they were through with the former's treatment. So she had decided to stop by, expecting just to pop in, say hello then be on her way. Instead just as she had gotten to the door she was greeted by both her friends on their way out. "I just got here actually," she replied, smiling as she stepped back to let them out. Glancing curiously at Viral she cocked her head to the side, reaching out and giving his shoulder a prodding. "You took your medicine again, didn't you...?" Every time he did it was obvious, he became loopy and could scarcely move on his own. Sighing she placed her hands on her hips, giving her head a shaking. "Right... Well if you did it was for a good reason, so I'm not going to question it. Where are you two heading though? I thought you had tests to run."

"We do, and we ran a couple. We're just taking a break for now, getting a bit of food." Vegeta pointed out. Nodding his head for Yumi to follow he eased Viral forward, not wanting to move too quickly. "We actually found something just a few moments ago too, and it could be the solution we've been looking for," he continued, glancing over at Yumi. "Could, so don't get all excited just yet. Even if it isn't though, gene deterioration is never a positive thing. So fixing this will help something at least, even if it's not the problem we want to solve." As he had said too there may be more than one abnormality. Once he had gone through the entirety then they would know for certain. With any degree of luck he would find more, and within those there would be the offending gene. Soon as they had the problem singled out they could effectively tackle it and get Viral onto the fast road to recovery. "If this works though and I can stabilize his genetic makeup I might even be able to administer gene therapy to you. If, that is, you want to be changed back."

"N-No, I don't say bad words to be funny! I say them because... I don't know!" Takeshi said, rolling his eyes dramatically, "The same reason someone says any word, I just talk and use them. Sheesh..." Curse words for comedy, he'd never heard of that one before. Whatever Shu needed to help explain things to himself, he supposed. He figured it was a good thing the little guy didn't cuss, it would seriously hamper his adorable, innocent little image that had people so willing to support and befriend him. That was probably part of the reason girls tended to adore him and meanwhile Takeshi would get slapped, so not fair... Moving on! Before he could get down and out about his chances with the fairer sex he figured they should get T'charrl, their friend was probably waiting to find something to do. In an unceremonious manner Takeshi stopped just outside the door, and with the palm of his hand banged on it fairly loudly, much to Shu's chagrin. "What if he's asleep and doesn't hear us? I've gotta knock loud!" he said, turning to the door as it opened. Flashing T'charrl a smile he stepped back a bit, giving him a slight wave, "Ah, you're up! Come on lazy, let's go train. Oh, and practice talking and stuff!"
The medicine looked to be taking an awfully quick effect on Viral this time. He was passive and near immobile, his body probably not agreeing with him too much right now. Vegeta wasn't a fan, but the Beastman wanted his medicine and far be it from him to make Viral continue to suffer. Besides, the medicine would only be necessary for a little while longer, they were on the verge of fixing things after all. Having made sizable headway into the matter he now felt they could take a break to eat, get some much needed nourishment before continuing. Viral might be opposed to that but it was one topic Vegeta wasn't going to bend on. In moderation eating should be okay, just no big meals just yet. "The needles only come if you refuse to eat solid foods," Vegeta stated, coming around the desk, "You've got to keep getting proteins and nutrients, otherwise a lot of good this will do you." Even Viral couldn't go forever without eating, and if he was trying to recover then it was counter intuitive to be fasting. "Bookworm, hm?" Vegeta mirrored, raising an eyebrow before smiling. "That's a new one, I'll remember that. Especially when this bookworm is the one who restores you to your prime. Now come on," he added, leaning down and taking Viral by the arm, helping him to his feet, "Let's go get some food."

Takeshi couldn't answer even half of Shu's questions, he didn't know everything. All the more reason to start teaching the little guy soon, the more he knew the less he'd have to ask. Of course what the little guy did know were things that weren't super useful, either that or a bit annoying. "Who told you not to say what I say?" he asked, flushing red as he glanced over at Shu, "Was it Yumi? Or Vegeta? T-They say bad words too, you know! I'm not the only one!" Hmph, demonizing him like that, wonderful. Crossing his arms over his chest Takeshi sulked a bit as they continued on, looking back ahead. People said bad things all the time, it wasn't fair to say he was the only one. Shu wasn't done talking and for a second he thought the conversation was going to go on, but instead they were on about pointy things now. "Hm... Hers aren't that sharp, I don't think so. Maybe she just can't help it? I mean our father did change her, you know. Not her fault she's like that. Either way you know she won't scratch you. Her hurting you is like me hurting you, it wouldn't ever happen, yeah?" Or T'charrl hurting Shu, that was just as much an absurd notion. Speaking of T'charrl, they were already at his room, nearly having walked by it. Stopping suddenly in his tracks, Takeshi glanced at the door, smiling as he banged against it with his hand. "Hey T'charrl? Wakey wakey, come on out!"
"To say I'm completely relaxed would be a lie. But I'm trying to remain as calm as possible to figure this out," Vegeta replied, glancing over at Viral. A small smile spread across his lips as he stood up from his desk, "Truth be told, I'm rather excited. We've been looking for the source of this for so long and may finally have found it. The fact we might be able to finally get you the help you need has me elated. But I'll celebrate when everything is said and done, not now." It would be a long process, gene therapy. The quickest bit would be making the culture of genes, everything from thereon out was simply a matter of waiting. Lots and lots of waiting. To the question of food the Saiyan merely shrugged his shoulders, placing one hand on the desk as he leaned lazily. "Anything you'd want. It would be a light meal, just something to keep you going for now. It's either that or we give you nutrition intravenously, and I know what a fan you are of that method." Solid food had more going for it anyways, IVs were sort of moot when you could eat an actual meal instead. "What do you mean beat you?" Vegeta repeated, frowning in confusion, "I'm not trying to beat anyone here, only help."

Takeshi didn't know the science behind scouters and he wasn't about to pretend to. All he knew was they picked up sound, could interpret it and pass it through your ear as if you heard it like that. That was how their translators worked, as explained by Vegeta before. If T'charrl really didn't have ears though then that did beg the question of how he heard. Did bugs have ears? Or did they use antennae or something like that? He didn't know, and whatever the case was it was likely unique to Kaesstrians. Since they were visiting their friend anyways they could just ask him, assuming T'charrl didn't mind. "I don't know that many bad words!" Takeshi said, pausing immediately after for a moment, "Okay... Maybe I know a few, but I don't use them that much. Plus no one makes me stop, so why wouldn't I use them?" They were just words as far as he was concerned, he didn't see the big deal. There were way worse things you could teach someone other than words, like how to steal for instance. "Little swords, huh?" Takeshi mumbled, glancing down at his own hands. "No idea what that's like. And Yumi's aren't that big I don't think. Or are they? I don't know, I never really look."
"Don't wait for death, because you're not going to die. Not so long as I'm here to prevent that." Vegeta wasn't even sure Viral would die. Far as he could tell the only negatives to these genetic changes were the Beastman's inability to control his power. The other issues, especially depression, stemmed from that. Solving the former ought to alleviate the rest, and once in better health tackling anything that remained would be insurmountably easier. "If you want to know what you're to do for now, relax. We'll train sparingly over the next few days when we can, and I want to try getting you back on something akin to a diet. Your body will need the food to help replenish cells, and in doing so your genetic material itself. As for the procedure we'll use... I think I might have some idea. If I isolate exactly what gene we need and manage to create a culture, which should take a week, we can begin therapy. " That was if these particular genes were the offenders. Vegeta figured he would go over them in more detail, look for any more abnormalities, but also prepare to treat these first few. In the event he found more they could treat those as well, as many times as it took to get Viral right. Given that this worked, which he was hoping like hell it would, Viral should more than reach his prime when all was said and done.

"Maybe he does have ears, they're just hidden under all of his fur?" Takeshi suggested, smiling with a shrug of his shoulders. Far be him from being an expert on Kaesstrians, he hadn't a clue how they heard anything. It stood to reason that they were on T'charrl's head though, seeing as the scouter worked as it did on anyone with ears. It had been a fair long enough time now that he couldn't recall what their friend had looked like before hand. He certainly didn't have a human like ear, but probably had some kind of one. Eh, this was way too much to be thinking about right now. "Well I doubt he's going to hate having us there, unless we did something really wrong last time. Plus, it's not like Vegeta is the only one that speaks the common tongue, you know? All of us know it, anyone here could teach T'charrl, including us." The only thing that may be trick about them teaching is Shu's odd way of speaking. He was perfectly understandable, but the little guy had a funny way of talking that no one else shared. T'charrl would be understandable just as the little guy was, but having two people like that might be a real head scratcher. "Hell, I don't know how he got them either, so don't come asking me. It's probably like your Oozaru, it just happens when he changes, that's all. No real way to explain it."
Vegeta should be able to read through the compilation of works gathered and find a solution. It wasn't entirely beyond him to do gene therapy, with a little help he could figure it out. The degeneration was increasing, but not at a significant rate. Logic stated that it would continue at the same rate which ought to afford them plenty of time to solve this. Taking a seat at the desk he brought the images up on the computer screen, again enhancing the three strips. Somewhere he should find information on this, and from there he could know where and how to begin administering therapy. Glancing at Viral coming over he looked up, frowning at his concerns. "Has it sped up? Yes, but not substantially. I can confidently say you're not at any immediate risk," he replied, folding his hands together. "Please Viral, calm down and listen to me. If I thought there was an immediate threat to your life you know I would tell you, but I'm not. If it makes you feel comfortable then fine, say goodbyes, but you're not going to be dying. And so long as I can keep your energy stifled you won't be able to transform, so that eliminates that risk. It's not going to be easy for you, but now I know what we're supposed to be fixing." That was all he needed, everything was uphill from here. "Gene deterioration can be caused by tampering with your genetic coding, which I assume the Saiyans did. Things like radiation can also effect genes. If it can be done, it can be undone. Just... Often times the latter is the more difficult of the two."

"I'm sure he wouldn't hate being able to talk to us either. I'm getting pretty tired of those scouters honestly, so if he can speak without one then we can finally stop using those stupid things. Reminds me too much of when we were with father..." Besides, if T'charrl really wanted to improve he had to actually use the language. The scouter was fine and all for visits, but if you were around aliens for so long it was better to just pick up what they spoke. The Saiyans taught a few languages to some of their Elites for speaking with more valued allies, rather than relying solely on scouters for speaking. But overall, troops used them only for brief visits as learning a language was hard. He'd tried picking one up before, one he couldn't even remember the name of, and gave up pretty quick. The fact then T'charrl was doing so well was pretty outstanding. "You know... We probably could teach him. You know how to speak well, and I definitely do. Between the two of us we can teach him whatever Vegeta might, and we can probably do it quicker! Help him speak while we help him change back, kill two birds with one stone."
Vegeta looked over his discoveries with hesitant excitement. It could either be the solution to Viral's problems or nothing at all, too hard to say just yet. It was the first significant find since these tests had began though, anything was good at this point. Even if they were grasping at straws here it was still a change of pace after so much disappointment. "How much time do you have...? I can't say, not yet. Considering the point from your capture to now though I would think quite some time. It has degraded, but not significantly so. If this rate continues you should have a few months, and we'll fix this well before then." Again, theories and hypotheses, nothing concrete. Viral wouldn't accept or appreciate being led around so it was best just to be straightforward with him. "I would guess those genes control your energy flow in some shape or form. It would explain at least why you've been struggling to control it, and why its been becoming increasingly difficult. If I can figure out what proteins are in those strands we can rebuild them. That however is going to be a huge undertaking." If he could figure out what the old mapping showed then that would pull everything together, but decerning proteins simply from an image was nigh impossible unless you had more data. Looks like it was back to reading.

Takeshi was just going to drop the explanations for now, as well as his annoyance over being given a cheap hit. Neither were getting them anywhere and it was only confusing Shu ultimately. They really ought to be going to T'charrl anyways, their friend had been alone all day far as they knew, goodness knows he could use some company. Since they weren't up to much right now it was no bother to visit him. "Well good thing we're going to see him, yeah? I bet he'll be happy we're coming by," he said, flashing a thumbs up, "Let's not keep him waiting, come on buddy." The training hall was much the same state they had found it in, so cleaning after themselves wasn't necessary. Stepping out into the corridors, Takeshi waved Shu on towards their destination. "He's gotta be pretty good by now. I mean, they've been doing it for a few weeks now. And he sort of sounded like he knew what he was saying last time. I doubt he's totally fluent, but he ought to be able to talk to us, you know? And we can help him too!"
Viral may well have overdosed on his pills and Vegeta wouldn't have known, much too busy staring at the display now. The fact that he had found not just a small difference, but a glaring discrepancy over time was a huge discovery. It may well be nothing to do with the current situation, but if there were more like this then it could be the problem. There was still roughly 50% of the data to go over, but he had a gut feeling that there might be more along the way. Whilst locating and isolating these genes would be a challenge, Vegeta knew through gene therapy they should be able to fix this. The Beastman should see this as well, maybe it would give him some hope on his situation. "This is your genetic mapping, simply put. It consists of every little piece of you, collected from three sources and shown over time, from my father's original," Vegeta explained, gesturing across the display, "To my recent work at the end. What I want to show you though is this..." Going then to the console at the desk, Vegeta used the cursor to select and separate the sections where discrepancies appeared. Blowing those up to fill each portion of the display he smiled knowingly, pointing to each three. "These three genes have been altered over time. Now, this is just conjecture, but I would guess this is linked to your deterioration. If I have a little more time with this I would bet I can find out what it means and how to fix it."

Takeshi didn't have the capacity nor the patience to explain things to Shu right now. It wasn't like being confused would be anything new for the little guy, he could let it rest for now. Glancing at his brother he smiled slightly, reaching up and prodding the boy's forehead. "Of course I'm not bored of you. You're too random and unpredictable to get bored of," he retorted, slowly sitting up. "If you want to go help T'charrl I've got no problem with it. He's probably feeling a bit lonely right now." They tried to do things daily with him, but it wasn't constant. And he certainly wasn't with someone as much as he and Shu were, who were constantly together. Again came the comments about him lying down. Blushing a fierce red he sighed, rolling his eyes before pointing at Shu, "I was lying down because you hit me! It hurts you know!" He was wasting his breath though, unless he got into really awkward, vivid detail Shu probably wouldn't understand what he was saying. Sighing he rubbed at his head before getting up to his feet, gesturing for Shu to follow. "We can train with T'charrl if you want. I'm sure he wouldn't mind."
