To-do List: 1. Write a bio 2. Celebrate for finally having written a bio
Hey, my name's Gavin. If you've seen the RP(s) I'm in, you'll know that I name most of my characters that, too. I'd like to say I do it to keep track of them easier or something, but it's really because I'm so bad at coming up with names that I just use my own. I tend to RP with a specific group of people, but if I find the time I'm not opposed to joining other RPs.
I got into roleplaying a while back from a stray Google search. It lead me to a website with a fanfiction written by multiple authors. (Don't judge me too harshly; that's really what I thought it was.) Eventually, I figured out what this "roleplay" concept was. It seemed like a fun idea, so I decided to track down the people who wrote what I had just read and join their current RP. Looking back on it, I'm amazed that my app was (eventually) accepted. I'm not exaggerating when I say that my roleplay/writing skills were absolutely horrible - I was lucky to be able to write a couple sentences per post. If any of you are reading this: thanks for putting up with it back then.
After that RP and its prequel ended, the group I was with moved to this website. I joined (or tried to join) a few of their RPs, but I kept losing interest along the way. There were times where I would get an idea and decide to work on an app, but those never lasted long enough for me to get back into RPing. I stopped making apps, and started checking in on people from time to time because I wanted to keep in contact with them. I eventually realized that it was kind of rude to keep posting on an RP I wasn't in, so I decided not to keep doing that. I checked back here less and less, until I eventually forgot about it.
Until earlier this year last year. A while ago, I remembered the old RPs I had been in and decided to write one of them into a book for myself. I pulled up the old website and started stitching the posts together in my own words into a continuous story, structured more like a book than an RP. I got about a hundred posts in, and that's when I realized that I wanted to RP again. I could tell it was different now; this time I wouldn't get bored halfway through making an app and give up. So, now I'm back. And I don't plan on leaving anytime soon, so you're all stuck with me.
Yep, currently almost 300 posts in (22.2%). It's a really good story, it feels like reading a book. Here's what I've got so far for the recap:
As the story begins, Spruce (Snivy) is already a member of Arnold’s Guild in Allure Town. He’s currently in a one-Pokémon team named “The Odd Ones Out.” Soon, Celes (Eevee) and Kamina (Magikarp) enter the guild and decide to join Spruce’s team. Having left his village of racist plants, Milloon (Magnemite) enters the guild and causes an all out war between the guild members within seconds. While Arnold and Archie calm the fighting, Milloon unofficially joins Spruce’s team. They then go to bed.
The next day, they wake up to the beautiful sight of Arnold cooking gummies on the guild’s roof in the heat. Josh (Skrelp) and Matt (Reuniclus) join the guild. Matt is really just there to carry around Josh in the bucket right now. Hex (Combee royalty) enters town and joins Josh and Matt’s team, “Team Scarab.” Both teams take separate missions that lead to Beach Cave. There, everyone meets the outlaw, Mister Mudkip, who had kidnapped an Emolga and tricked Anthony (Goomy) into working for him. They beat Mister Mudkip in a boss battle, rescue the Emolga, and Anthony joins Team Scarab. They all go back to the guild to sleep.
Side note: Spruce buys Celes a Hidden Power TM she wanted, Celes almost accidentally sleeps in Spruce’s bed (it was dark and she couldn’t see), Spruce makes her a scarf out of vines, and takes an attack for her. I think I see a pattern here... (This had better happen, people!)
Around this time, Beedrill from Hex’s hive come to the guild looking for Hex. Celes’ parents put out a missing poster for her on the mission board. Arnold believes a Bidoof from the guild is behind these “mass kidnappings”, so Arnold ties him to a chair and drags him into the guildmaster’s room for interrogation. Kamina is as blissfully unaware to what’s really going on as Arnold is.
The Odd Ones Out take a mission in Foggy Plains, where they meet a Gible who needs protection to go get a treasure. The treasure, it turns out, is a void crystal! Before they can decide what to do with it, an Absol named Desia and a Haxorus named Quartzil attack. Although Spruce is immune to their shadow attacks, it removes all his color and turns him gray. Desia and Quartzil quickly dispose of the team. Before they can steal the void crystal, Davis (a Porygon fashioned into a war machine by humans) defends the crystal from them. By the time Desia and Quartzil defeat Davis, the void crystal is gone and the void is already creeping into this dimension. The two would-be thieves run away. The unnamed Pokémon who stole the crystal had already evacuated innocent Pokémon from the area, and arranged for Denise (Dragonite) to bring The Odd Ones Out to safety. There’s so many plot twists here it felt like Explorers of Sky all over again! (In a good way.)
Meanwhile, Team Scarab got a mission statement for Crystal Chasm. An exploration team there had found the camp of a suspicious Pokémon and wanted help investigating. They head off to the cave, followed by an Amaura named Carrol, who had just joined the guild and been told to join Team Scarab for the day. All of them get items from the team in Crystal Chasm, and head off to the Tyranitar.
@KaBling Oh, boy. I did NOT expect myself to go so in depth about it! This is about the first 2 and 1/2 pages of the rp, I don't think I'll write as in depth for the next sections if I want to get this done anytime soon.
- The story begins with spruce going on a rescue mission in Birchwood Forest; a Magikarp had gotten lost there. - Spruce, however, also gets (very) lost.
- Celes explores both Allure and Treasure Town after running away from home - “WITNESS AND BE AMAZED WORLD! AS I, KAMINA, CRAWL MY WAY FROM THE BOTTOM, TO THE VERY TOP!!!” Kamina yells, his pupils literally looking like they’re on fire - Kamina sees ‘a kindred spirit’ in Celes and gives her an inspirational speech on why they should travel together
- ‘Could Hell be condensed into mere words? No.’ - Davis disappears without a trace after acting strangely while odd signals were being broadcast - Once in Birchwood Forest, he passes by the Magikarp that Spruce is looking for - He also gets attacked by (and defeats) a Pidgey that was trying to eat the Magikarp - Milloon gets ambushed at least 8 times
- They walk to the guild, Kamina talking nonstop - ‘Clearly this Eevee needs the fires of her youth to blaze brighter, however, his words of encouragement only seem to agitate her’ - After Kamina passes his first “test” (standing on the footprint grate in front of the guild), they go inside to meet the guildmaster - They and see the guildmaster with his back to the door, fiddling with something. “Umm... guildmaster?” Archie asks. Arnold replies, “SSSHHH. Not now. I’m making... TOAST!” He spins around and holds up a banana - After Arnold takes a quick power nap, Celes and Kamina are accepted into the guild
- He gets to a clearing where the Magikarp is, and is ambushed by Team Zan (Sneasel, Zubat, and Koffing) - They introduce themselves as “Sean!”, “Bart!”, “And me, uh... Carl!” - They were energetic, but seemed to be just level 1 - I feel more sorry for Team Zan than that Magikarp, honestly - The Magikarp doesn’t have any reward for Spruce, but he helps it return to the ocean anyway
- He walks into the guildmaster’s room to see Arnold holding his favorite food, a Golden Banana, although it’s burnt - Just after getting accepted, they meet Spruce - ‘Kamina is amazed, weeping manly tears. To be accepted just like that, surely this guildmaster is truly skilled to be able to discern someone’s worth so easily...’
- He follows a member of Arnold’s guild: a Turtwig with a horrible sense of direction - After entering the guild, he accidentally knocks the Turtwig over and it rolls across the floor - This results in dropped berries, a burning couch, squashed berries, and a spilled water jug that extinguished the couch - Milloon flies upstairs into the guildmaster’s room with everyone - “Er... They’re causing a riot down there. Don’t ask.”
- ‘Anarchy in a Cup’ - Archie is concerned for Kamina’s sanity after learning that he is not, in fact, on drugs or drunk - Spruce asks if they want to join his team - Celes and Kamina accept. Milloon doesn’t give a definitive answer, but goes with them - Milloon locks the door for their own safety after Arnold and Archie leave. Soon, there’s a knock at the door. “Can someone unlock the door? I left my banana in there.” - Arnold and Archie calm the ruckus
- Spruce deflects a few questions about Vine’s whereabouts - They go to the dining hall with the guild and eat dinner - Not wanting much from the dining hall, Celes eats some berry bread she brought with her from home - She finishes and goes out back to train, followed by Milloon - Spruce and Kamina go to bed, followed soon after by Celes and Milloon
- What was weird was the nightmare that started after I finally drifted off. I was in some sort of weird, grey, purple, and black place with dead-looking trees, and a tiny village. Wanting to figure out what was up with this place, I headed towards the village, only to find it filled with strange pokemon who seem to share he color scheme of the place... they were all either grey, purple, or black. Confused, I walked out of the village, and found myself looking out into some sort of void, rift, or bottomless pit. I wasn't scared, just yet, but that's just about when some sort of weird, giant snake thing flew out of the void, straight at me, and with all of the speed of a jet plane. I was knocked back from the thing's speed alone, and tried to look for it, mainly out of fear, yet, it was gone... after that... some sort of rip through this strange reality appeared, nearly hitting me, and sucking me into the blank whiteness of it. Another figure appeared through the rip in reality, and then, some sort of ear-piercing scream or shout which woke up up in the middle of the night.
- Josh was on the run from an abusive underwater society; a Clawitzer named Zane is after him - He washed up on the beach and decided to go with Matt, who lets him live in a pond beside his house - He wants to learn how to move on land by levitating himself
- Matt learns about Josh’s past through psychic messages Josh was sending through his dreams - They to go the guild, but Josh doesn’t want to (and everyone is having dinner, anyway) - They go back home, and Josh falls asleep deciding whether to join the guild or not
So I'm reading the whole rp, and I can't decide between Kamina or Arnold as my favorite character.
Spruce: I just stood there and watched as Arnold climbed up to the top of the guild, and started to place gummis on the... thing... and had the hot sun start to melt and cook them. Who in the world cooks GUMMIS!? Ugh, and that's the guy I'm supposed to be listening to? I then notice some of the gummi goop ooze out of the pan and onto the guild's roof. Archie somehow sneaks up to me and shouts "Guildmaster Arnold Columbus what do you think you're DOING!?" that shout surprised me, but, what didn't surprise me was when Arnold answered "Archie... I'm just making some breakfast for myself, and it's too hot outside. You told me that I could do this once per summer, so, I'm doing this now." Archie didn't seem impressed.
Haha, YES! I love it, I wish I could draw like that! You even added him holding the pointy stick! Would you mind if I put that as his picture in the appearances section of the app?
I glare at the Dragonair, more than slightly annoyed by this point. "I've said it before, and I'll say it again." Danny repeats. "I heard from Terra, who heard from her husband, who was told by that Pokémon over there, that a Gible who looks just like you bought something from Bob and Ed's stall!" "But I've never even traveled that far! How would I have bought anything all the way from Allure Town!?" I shout back. "You tell me." Danny turns away, feeling betrayed by one of his best customers. I open my mouth to argue, but think twice. I sigh and storm out of the store. Back in Scale City's main square, I place my unspent 1000 Poké back in the bag and look around for anywhere else to buy food. Amanda is standing over at her shop discussing various fabrics with a customer, but nothing she sells is edible. Chad and Terra's hotel offers breakfast alongside one of their insanely overpriced rooms. Denise's guild only feeds its own guild members... The thought of walking into the guild, let alone asking to join, is nerve racking enough for me. It's at this moment that I realize the genius of owning the only food store in the city.
Scanning the buildings in town for a solution, my eyes fall onto a signpost. A signpost pointing me to one place I've been longing to go all my life. I walk over to it. 'Now leaving Scale City', it reads. "But I can't just leave..." I wonder, before looking back towards the town's busy centre. "Can I...?" Danny probably won't sell me anything for weeks, and Arceus knows I don't want to mooch off the food at my parents' house until then. All the maps I've memorized show towns nearby; towns that undoubtedly have different stores. The only thing that's really been stopping me from leaving is my own uncertainty...
I look to the sky, which is dominated by the intimidating peak of Mount Dragoncoil. A flock of Staravia glide overhead as a lone cloud slowly floats by. The sun is still just above the horizon... I think to myself. I might have just enough time to make it to another town and back before nightfall... Returning to my house to gather the necessary items for the journey, I still can't believe I'm going through with it. Seriously, I must've gone insane from rotten berries or something. The remaining food from my house is wrapped in a blue scarf and gently placed into the bottom of my bag. In the bag's side pocket lay a sharp stick; one I make sure to never leave home without.
Though this isn't the first time for me, stepping out of Scale City feels different now. The familiar warm breeze wafting up from Sunswept Plains... The sounds of bird Pokémon in the distance... It all feels so much more... real. As though I'm finally experiencing the world as it really is - as it's meant to be experienced. Despite my heart racing, I tell myself that I'll return after visiting another town and buying food. I tell myself this will only be for one day.
Though deep down, I know that once I gets a taste for my sense of adventure, there’s no containing it.
Bio: “Hiyah!” Gavin shouts, standing on a hill beside Mt. Dragoncoil and holding a pointy stick to an Axew’s neck. “No, wait! That’s not fair!” shouts his friend once he realizes he lost the mock-battle. Gavin lowers the stick. “What’s not fair?” He asks, slightly annoyed. “Why do you get to use a pointy stick? Where’s mine?” “I made this one. You don’t get one because you didn’t make one!” The Axew thinks about his predicament for a moment, but soon gets distracted by the activity down in Scale City. Gavin notices too and looks over in time to see two Pokemon walking into town. These aren’t just any Pokemon, though... These are new ones! He’s never seen these two around town before. One he recognizes as a Salamence, while the other is some sort of green lizard with leaves for a tail. “Who do you think those are?” his friend asks. Gavin realizes something. “Maybe they’re adventurers!” he gasps. “Adventurers? Don’t you mean explorers?” “No. Adventurers. Exploring is different from adventuring.” “How?” “One’s boring and the other’s not.” Gavin replies bluntly. “You know, that’s what I want to be when I grow up. An adventurer!” --- Getting to see the Salamence and Sceptile, the first two Pokemon from other towns to visit Scale City, had changed Gavin. There were other towns out there! Other places to explore! Other people to meet! He became obsessed with where they’d travelled and the things he heard about their adventures, eventually getting to the point where he would sit in his room for hours on end writing stories about their endeavors. Soon, though, he switched to writing about what he would do if he were a member of a guild. The places he’d go... The wonders he’d see with his own eyes... He could hardly wait.
Years later, Gavin was still working to become an adventurer long after his friends had lost interest in the subject. He lived in a small house far from Scale City's entrance. By now his parents (both Gabite) were well aware of his desire to move out in order to see the world. His mom, a bit overprotective at times, wasn’t too keen on the idea. Meanwhile, his dad was indifferent about it (as he was about most things). To Gavin’s surprise, they had finally agreed to letting him move out after years of him pestering them about it. However, his joy didn’t last long once he found out that they had bought him a place just down the street instead... He decided to roll with it, though, taking what he could get.
Gavin’s desire to travel, see the world, and join Denise’s Guild had stemmed from the day those now-famous explorers came to town. However, he’s still not sure if he’s up to the task and hasn’t yet attempted to form a team there. He's especially worried about his lack of damaging moves, but makes up for it with a very sharp stick he's been carrying around for almost eight years now. Currently, Gavin is helping with what he can in the city, trying to make a bit of money on the side and waiting for the right time to join the guild.
He’s just been dragged into an argument with Danny, who he wanted to buy food from. Apparently, Danny now thinks that Gavin bought something from Bob and Ed’s stall and won’t sell him anything... Whoever “Bob and Ed” are...
Appearance: He looks like most other Gible, but usually has a bag with him. Sticking out the side of his bag is a very pointy stick, which he always carries around. Buried deeper in the bag is a blue scarf that he hopes to be able to wear one day. Don't ask him about his lack of a neck unless you want to be on the receiving end of the stick.
Picture made by Ridlins
Differences: Can fly and shoot lasers from his eyes. None
(If there's anything that I need to change or if this contradicts the continuity in any way, please let me know, I can edit it.)
