Not meant to be arrogant, just more of a *shrug* of whatever. ^^;

First post problem? In the OOC? In terms of giving too much or too little info, it just depends on the setting and information you have to give. Some people spend so much time on the OOC layout but it ends up stalling the IC so much that people have dropped out. I would say start with the interest check and have that be the tester for what information people want to have and what people find less useful or necessary.

I have a couple years of GMing under mah belt...still doesn't feel like much but...

The pro is being in control and leading people down a great planned path. A con of that is either thinking too much or not enough. You have to give yourself enough room to roll with the punches of the characters, but you have to think enough to lead them somewhere. Sure, some GMs like a sandbox concept but even so, you can't just set the stage and expect things to run themselves.

Another tip would be to not be afraid to put on some adult pants and do some management. If someone's CS sucks for x, y and z reasons, tell them and help them out. Or if someone isn't following the rules or guidelines set by posting too infrequently or just slacking, don't be afraid to ask what's up. So many GMs get lazy or scared. I still struggle with confronting players but you have to do what's good for the game and if you can help players out by ensuring lines of communication are always open and utilized, so be it.

And remember most RPs will die or have many moments where things are slow but you need to just keep yourself and the others engaged. The more encouragement there is, the more frequent posts can come. And remember certain times of the year will be hard, like when many have finals/midterms/holidays, etc. I'd say the pro for being GM is that you get to collect a bunch of passionate people together and make some cool together. The con is that it's a struggle to keep things moving, to keep people invested and interested.

Well I've been here for ages, I'm not leaving. I may be on 1-2 other sites but this will always be a place I call home. While I don't agree with people running away at the first sign of trouble (and to be fair, this 'trouble' has been going on for months) I understand their need to find a better place, but they won't. *shrugs* But hey, I see things are improving and with any luck our other RPers will find their way back or I'll have to annoyingly fix the mess they've made by not coming back promptly or speaking up at least about a delay because hey, I'd understand given the shit situation with the site but I'd rather keep things rolling than not.

The site has been a killer of many roleplays lately so I think that is the biggest contributor for people being inactive. I do hope as Mahz works on it, people will become more trusting of the site as a whole again. I'm sick of being the only one with faith, waning but still......

I am sure this will become a "thing" as I plan to get the OOC up tonight and work on it all day tomorrow, well most of tomorrow, as the morning will be spent sleeping and making breakfast. but I am very glad to welcome new writers to the Guild. I have had generous Astarael42 step forward as a possible co-GM so I'd love to talk to them in length as I work on the OOC so they'll be able to help out and not worry about stepping on anyone's toes.
