So I have four essays to work on over the next two weeks which will total about 25 pages. Yikes. Plus I'm getting ready for a diet which starts in three weeks...but thankfully my quarter is almost over! So yes characters!

I'm eager to get back into roleplaying. Since things have been so inactive around here, I've turned to my own personal novels and short stories.

But yes...our main characters.

I'm thinking a general age range would be mid to late 20s.

I also assume we'll have to pick a city/town they both reside in. For the most part, we'll probably want to hammer out the skeletal aspects and then work from there to ensure we're not making duplicate characters or ones who would resist working with one another. I first presented the idea, under the impression they were strangers but if we wanted them to be coworkers or friends, that would also work for me. It may make adjusting to a new world easier?

I haven't give ambition or profession much thought but I am looking to play a woman who is pretty upbeat with healthy ambition but not too much that it blinds her. Maybe she's somewhat motherly or protective...or the flip side, maybe she wants to put so much faith in others that she doesn't feel the need to doubt/question/dote over them.

What thoughts have you give to your main character?
I'm actually gonna try and read/vote tomorrow if possible. It's been a very busy time for me. I have to write about 25 pages in the next two weeks in the span of four essays. But it's probably busy for other people as well. While I have piles of essays, others probably have that and finals coming up...or vacations or something. I'm just lucky to have time during a class today to even log on. :/
I'm just popping in during class, I'll likely pop back on tonight an hour or two before bed. It doesn't seem like any ICs or OOCs need me...so you'll have my attention haha. ^^;

I suppose the immortality thing works. Or just call it an extended lifetime, since I do think immortality may be a strong word.

We could always have different means of harnessing magic so our character(s) could do whichever we personally like, if we can't come to an agreement. Personally (I almost sound like a broken record here lol) I'd rather keep things simple since we're still stuck in the planning phase of things. I also think the more simple we keep things, there's more room for complicating things once we get comfortable. So if we just want to go with the idea that magic is everywhere and that the environment can influence magic but it doesn't need to, would work?
A funky pop song broke Tamago from his dreamy paradise and caused an arm to flail out from his tomb of cushions. With a groggy grunt, he successfully swiped across his phone's screen to deliver silence to his cramped dorm room. Tamago groaned and pushed himself into a slouched seated position. He rubbed his face and sorted through the events from last night. He and his other friends had been out at Mount Wildwood and had planned on camping for a few days but that adventure was cut short by some massive red monster with a crazy bat. Tamago shook his head and finally got out of bed, quickly shaking his head to rid himself of the sleepiness trying to keep its pesky hold on the culinary creator. He checked the time and knew since it was 9:35, he had about 30 minutes before he agreed to meet the others over in Uptown at the Community Center where they'd try to make some funds to fuel their spring break.

He got changed into jeans, a light green t-shirt and grabbed his bag and headed out of his room. Thankfully his other roommates weren't around to ask why he was back so soon. He really wasn't sure how to explain everything to them and he was glad that for now, he didn't have to think about it. He glance down at his left wrist where his new watch was. It really wasn't a dream after all. Tamago sighed and headed out the door and found where his bike was locked. Soon enough, the green haired boy was breezing up and around the museum and towards Uptown Springdale. His stomach gave a fearsome lurch and he knew he needed to stop by Banter Bakery before continuing towards the Community Center. "I've got time..." He muttered to himself, though he knew if he checked his watch, it wouldn't be able to refute his notion since it didn't tell time, at least not obviously.

Natazume Hiroshi meanwhile, was still in bed but she wasn't asleep either.

Since she lived so close to the Community Center, she saw no use in scrambling to get there and instead spent most of her morning meditating and doing research online about spirits and myths. Before last night, she hardly gave ghosts much thought but now she was forced to open her eyes a little wider. Natazume's parents had the day to themselves so they decided to take the train to go someplace outside of Springdale. Natazume thus had the house to herself and was happy for the solitude and space. She was dressed in a summery yellow dress which had white polka dots on it. It was one of the more colorful things she owned but after last night's close call with death, she saw no point in making the most of the days she had in front of her. Around 8:50, she finally ventured downstairs and refilled her cup with a fresh splash of green tea before outside to the side garden where she tended to the plants, enjoying the sun's friendly hello.

Feeling spiritually satisfied, the woman cleaned up the kitchen and slipped into a pair of black supportive sandals and locked up the house. She glanced down at her right wrist where the watch was tightly fashioned. Though her right hand was in fact dominant, she still preferred wearing most of her jewelry on her right hand, even her watches. She brought up said right hand and flipped her dark hair back over her bare shoulders. She had eaten breakfast already and felt fairly content, considering the events of the evening, only hours ago. Natazume only had six blocks to traverse before she reached the Community Center. She passed Beautiful Blooms and walked upwards until she could cross the street safely. She passed by Everymart and continued until she reached the small building where many events and gatherings were had.

Already, Kazumi, Saki and Taka had arrived, making the normally early bird feel somewhat taken aback. Natazume gave the others a small wave and soon it seemed the only straggler to wait for was Tamago. She considered the fact he may have jogged to their meeting place which might account for his delay but it was still rather troublesome. She knew the others might need to talk about the events from last night but she also knew that they would be better off consulting Whisper together. But since someone was already running late, she decided to summon him without Tamago. "Anyway, I think while we wait, we should review the events from last night." She mentioned as she took out the coin and inserted it into the watch. A large puff of purple smoke appeared and when it cleared, their friend was floating, looking intrigued. Glancing around, Natazume noted that any other passersby didn't seem to notice the summoning. That was good.

"Good morning everyone! What sort of adventure are we about to get into?" Whisper asked them, wearing a wide grin.

The long ling at Banter Bakery hadn't deterred Tamago, who had finally obtained a peach tart. He felt pretty proud of himself but knew he needed to hurry if he wanted to make it back up to the Community Center on time. Tamago quickly ate the tart in three gigantic bites before he hopped back on his teal bike and headed north, weaving around many cars and pedestrians as need be. He was worried his friends were already waiting for him. Or worse, that they hadn't waited, found a cool job and had left without him. He ended up making it to the Community Center just after Whisper had been summoned. While he loved to stay fit, he decided not to stuff his face and then bike like a madman anytime soon. Tamago panted and walked his bike and rested it on the back of the bench, still winded. "Sorry I'm late...had to...go to...Banter...Bakery."

"If you were going to be tardy, you could have at least brought us all something nice." Whisper said.
Gosh, I'm sure it won't matter when the IC is up and running but it does make plotting a little more tough. >__>'

I think the tweaks you made were fine for both sections, though I am a little unclear (maybe it's just the phrasing?) about "However, people began to live longer and longer despite it. Under the strain of myriad threats, a stagnant populace of nigh immortals, civilized societies became impossible to maintain." So with magic killing off people, there's some who are immortal instead of diseased? Or do you mean that because of sickness, it's impossible to have long standing lines of family/populations? Maybe the immortality thing was somewhat sudden but then somehow contradicted or discredited at the same time but I may need more 'filling in' with your train of there.

Alright so magic...

You had suggested two possible routes to take. I think the first would be the easiest to explain and implement. Different conduits if you will, like runes or books or flutes or rings, whatever. Each item or design would provide a user with a certain kind of magic (if we go the traditional route with four elements or something). Or if we do stick to the idea that magic is everywhere, it could just be an energy source without an affiliation to elements but maybe to just power/amount? Or weather? If it's sunny, it would be hot/fiery. If it's windy, the magic would be windy. It's somewhat like your second idea?

I do like the second idea since it does take into account the location and terrain and could make combat scenes very interesting but it might get out of hand. At the same time, if it's something you're really feeling, I don't mind going along with it. ^^

This is another crazy (read: random) thought but if we wanted to think many streams between Rathe and Earth are maybe tree related...we could have people fighting/using magic with small tree branches or something. Maybe certain trees have certain powers or abilities? Maybe if they flick it at someone, the magic would 'shake' from the leaves or branches and be directed at the target? Maybe some trees are healing, some are more for combat and after heavy use, they die? Again, just a random thought, I'm trying to add to some ideas since you added a few of your own and I don't wanna be a bum haha.
It was mostly Kaoru's fault their rice had been carelessly discarded. Though she also blamed Ryuuto Tajima. Still, having Kenshin take the brunt of Yahiko's impending tantrum was something she was hesitant to encourage. Still, at this point there was little point in crying over spilled rice. "I'll have to go back out tomorrow and see if I can get us some more." With money tight, she had a feeling she'd need to do a few odd jobs around town before she could go back to the market and procure more rice.

When Yahiko spotted them enter the grounds, he was quick to complain about how long he had been waiting.

"You're so ungrateful, Yahiko." Kaoru's face turned a slight red as she felt pretty embarrassed to have such a stubborn student. Kenshin chimed in by correcting Yahiko in a more calm manner. Kaoru couldn't help but give Kenshin a sympathetic look. Yahiko was her student but it was often Kenshin who had to even out the tension between her and her student. Still, Kaoru sighed and felt the temperature in her cheeks fall back to normal but that was quickly useless as Yahiko once again complained, this time about her cooking skills.

"You're lucky you're even getting chicken!" Kaoru snapped and charged after Yahiko who managed to evade her clutches. Before she got further sidetracked, she remembered she wished to aid Kenshin with preparing dinner. She just shook her fist at Yahiko who had gone into hiding. Kaoru knew someday he'd respect her, she just wished that day would arrive a little quicker.

Making her way back to where Kenshin was stationed, she seasoned the chicken and placed beside the vegetables which Kenshin had just placed on the small grill outside. Kaoru knew it would be about five or six minutes before she needed to tend to the meat so she allowed her mind to wander back to Yahiko and whether or not she was being the best teacher she could be. The last thing she wanted to do was to become someone like Tajima and resort to severe punishments. The notion of causing her own students harm as punishment was one she couldn't even grasp, as annoying as a certain brat could be.

Kenshin spoke up, asking her to be careful. She wasn't going in to be reckless but before she could assure the man sitting beside her, he continued. He mentioned that those she may be up against may surely try certain tactics forbidden by the rules in order to win. She gave a small nod in understanding. "That's why I'd really prefer if you helped me train for such unpredictable circumstances." She pointed out to him with another calm smile.

Deep down, she was certain that if she was ever in harm's way, truly in harm's way, Kenshin would act.

But she also knew she couldn't count on his kindness in lieu of the possibility of her being unable to defend herself. Kaoru knew she would need to be level headed and decisive with her moves. She glanced back down and used the nearby chopsticks to flip the chicken so it could finish cooking. "Are you free tonight after dinner?" She asked him, unsure if he had other things to do. Sometimes he did wander off into town or elsewhere so she decided it would be easier to just ask directly than to assume one way or the other. Already she was thinking of a way to repay him for his time. Would she be able to bake something?
I don't use IM anymore. Do you have a gmail account? We could talk through their chat?

I'm mostly popping on to get to a 1x1 post (I have a group post that I'll likely just finish tomorrow during class) but I should be on for about an hour before I have to go figure out dinner.
Bump.

Not in the past. I could build that feature quickly until I can build a better system if yall think it'd be nice.

I must have been imagining things. Weird...but yeah, I wouldn't mind giving co-GMs some power since when making/editing long information based posts (for example in the OOC), I feel both GMs should be able to tweak accordingly without waiting for one to be around to make changes. I know you want to do more with the tabs and other perks so it's nothing something immediate but it's something I guess I thought we had already. *laughs a little*

@Mahz Probably something less important but...did co-GMs used to be able to edit GM posts? I could have sworn, this was possible in the past but maybe not...?

Or will they be given more tools in the future?
