'Never again,' She vowed 'will I nag Yusuke and Kuwabara for neglecting their homework.' She told herself firmly, having experienced the mind numbing torture firsthand. Though when Kurama mentioned that she had all the qualities she had seen in him, she wasn't sure if she believed him or if she just thought he was being polite. In her mind, praise should be voiced much more often. She had seen too many people die with words still left upon their lips, forever unspoken to those around them, no longer able to hear them. To have people die without telling those around them how much they cared, was always such a shame. Botan had learned many lessons from her line of work but applying them was sometimes a scarce activity.
While Botan knew how to fight, actually applying her knowledge was a different matter. And though she had taught Yusuke and other Spirit Detectives the basics with fighting and using the handy spirit gun technique, it had been quite a while for the grim reaper to find herself in such a position. The last time she was in real danger was with Keiko but even then, Botan had to limit her skills to what Keiko could probably handle, which meant not firing a burst of energy from her pointer finger. With Kurama armed with his signature, stunning rose, she gave him a nod, intending to have a whack at the little pest.
Soon enough the male's rose reverted to back to a seed and was pocketed as he stepped back to further instruct her. There was no doubt that the demonling in question could sense how powerful Kurama was. Botan had assumed it would leap, she knew the sort of demon in front of them, would be prone to erratic movements. Still it was reassuring to have Kurama so close, just in case something went awry. In her mind, she would prefer to go on the attack but she knew his tactic was likely one with less risk. The imp wasted no more time before lunging for his newfound snack. Botan tensed, still not used to actually facing against someone on her own. Usually she was happy to be on the sidelines but she knew, given the grave mystery, she had to be brave.
Taking a deep breath, she swung backwards and then used that momentum to follow through to connect the flat part of her oar with the imp as he got close enough to strike. Thankfully it connected and he was jettisoned back to the ground, going several tumbles before landing in a dusty heap. The imp then vanished into a puff of smoke, having been successfully weakened enough to be banished back to demon world. Botan let out a small sigh though it wasn't one of relief, but one of contemplation. "I can use the spirit gun but it would be an embarrassing attempt, as it's been quite some time since I've even practiced." She informed Kurama and then brought her oar to her, inspecting it for any damage.
But it would take more than a puny imp's skull to do any real damage so for now, the oar disappeared into thin air, no longer needed.
"Though it wasn't much...I am glad to have had your support." Botan smiled to him. The encounter was able to give her a delicate taste of perhaps greater, far more dangerous things to come. The blue haired woman could no longer see other indicators of demonic activity, aside from the one by her. She took off the glasses and slipped them into the pocket of her red pleated skirt. In the back of her mind, she couldn't help but worry if the demon wad connected to their potential enemy but ultimately she doubted such a weakling would be connected to their case. "And of course that applies to everything else, not just...this." She waved her hand around a little, implying that his support throughout their school and after-school activities was much appreciated. "So we should probably get back yeah? I'd hate for Shiori to worry." She frowned.
