Fictional Universe, which I made a fictional alteration to. I really don't see how it's that different from a retcon of characters.
Especially when the shows excuse was as weak as "Girls are more emotional" when there are many guys who are very emotional, and many girls who aren't that emotional. It would make more sense just to say anyone within ______ emotional hormone level as a requirement rather than restrict it by their genitalia.

1: Considering the Retcon it's only appropriate it would be another Incubator. But since Incubators rely on logic alone and lack any emotion they will probably act essentially the same way.

2: It's open to anyone atm who wishes to make a Veteran character. But if no one wishes to then I will be providing a Veteran Character.

3: NPC magical girls will be provided as needed by the RP. The direction we take might demand I make several, it might demand I never make any.

@Notdeadyet: You'll need to get rid of the 'transform into a witch' power and replace it with something else.
For Magical Girls that current power is the equivalent of having the power to kill yourself on command, it's what happens when you die. Like say in walking dead you turn into a walker when you die, it's just what happens.

Don't feel bad about Tatsua having issues with your character though, she also was trying to give me crap in the Interest Check for allowing characters to be made/accepted that weren't 16 year old girls.

Henry: Doctor Who Edition

I like it, it puts a more serious/adult perspective on the Doctor Who Universe.
Basically, how dangerous something such as say a Cyberman really is when the Doctor isn't around to save the day.
So I'd recommend that any Whovian at least give it a shot.

Just note coming in that they do put a lot of focus on the other members of Torchwood too and it's not going to be a show focusing primarily around Captain Jack most of the time.

I think her whole "Knocking occasionally is stalking her" thing might be related to her buddy system mentality. Basically if she's so afraid of people that she can't be out by herself she's probably also easily afraid by people trying to initiate dialogue or hanging out. You'd be shocked how paranoid/scared some people can get by having over protective or controlling parents growing up.

As for the vending machine? She might have meant that they were the closests she had to additional friends but in truth they were closer to acquaintances or something.

On a side note, I can relate to her a bit better now. When I was in High School everyone thought I was Gay... High School's weird. :/

Basically what the title says, an anime based on the Madoka Magica anime.

Though with a few notes:

-Our own characters, not the ones from the show.
Infact I normally prefer to retcon RPs based off shows, movies and/or games and create our own heroes and timelines.

-Not just Magical Girls
I understand this was done already in fan fiction (I never read it, I wouldn't know personally). But it always bugged me how it was strictly a thing for girls.

-Maybe we don't get a Good ending?
Obviously not something we plan pre-RP, but basically it suggests maybe it proves too much and we ultimately all fall to the witches rather than actually be able to stop them.

-No Cross-Timeline Infinitely Powerful characters.
Basically, no mary sue's. What ever direction/ending this RP takes it should reflect the actions of the group as a whole, not revolve around one individual character.

-No Hardcoded age limit
As highlighted by a player in the Interest Check, there is usually a 16 year old age limit for characters which I find kind of silly.
What's stopping someone slightly older from joining? Or someone from having years experience, so although they took the contract before 16 they are now older (Mentally. I recognize a soul separated from the body would probably prevent aging).

Now with that out of the way.
I normally RP at a High-Free/Low Casual level, I am capable of more depending on the material given to reply to and the amount of characters I have. But I find anything past Low-Casual tends to put too much focus on post length details rather than the characters or plot progression. Slowing it to such a point that people lose interest and/or get caught up with RL before the RP has a real chance to adapt or finish.

Also, having posted the Interest Check that would technically make me GM. I will aim to try to create a decent flow, plot and direction for the RP but I generally don't like to operate on a "I'm charge, follow/listen to me". If you have ideas to contribute feel free to contribute. An RP is meant to be a group experience/creation, not one that one person makes and simply takes others along for the ride with. Plus I'm not doing any of that "I'm the DM so don't argue/question me" bullshit I see so many Interest Checks post in their rules. If you have an issue I want you to say so, we'll function better as a group overall if everyone is happy with what's happening and if people aren't afraid to point out when I'm making a mistake or being unreasonable.

So yea, that's it for now.
No real planned/set direction atm, that's going to be highly dependent on the characters we end up getting.

About the anime if you haven

Pre-Warning, this will sound a bit sappy/fake at first. Just bear with it, it's not actually like that as deeper in the description highlights.
Also Spoiler pre-warning, I don't spoil anything directly plot or character related. But I do spoil some info you aren't supposed to know until a certain point into the show.

Essentially it's an anime where there's an advanced alien race, but they lack emotions. They are cold, calculating logical (Think Spock for you trekkies out there). In fact, emotion that does pop up is seen as a mental illness.
But they face some sort of threat/danger of the universe ending cause of more energy being consumed than is being created (I know science nuts, that ain't how it actually works).
However, there is an energy from emotion that can be harnessed and used to counteract this so these aliens set there eye's on Earth. Earth which is inhabited by humans who primarily act and behave on emotion, something that completely baffles the aliens on how humans ever survived.

Regardless they come to Earth and start making pacts with them, agreement's to grant a wish (No Sneaky Genie bullshit) but in exchange they must sign up to be magical girls (Doesn't really explain what men can't make this pact). Effectively swearing their entire life into fighting these wicked creature's that only magical girls can see called witches. Witches being the cause of many mysterious deaths, murders, natural disasters etc. Witches practically become a Magical Girls food source because their life and magic feeds now in a sense feed's off their soul, and only by draining the power from dead witches by a dropped "Grief Seed" helps recharge it. Also leading to some interesting delima's because you get more 'food' from the witch the stronger it is, which is directly related to how many people they've killed. So many Magical girls out of a need to survive, or simply greed purposely let witches feed on humans before killing them. Magical Girls are able to take about infinite physical punishment without dying, can cast magic and effectively have pain immunity if they practice/focus enough. However, the more you allow yourself to not feel pain the slower in battle you normally are.

However, there are some details the alien's don't tell them.

1. When a Magical Girl dies they actually turn into a Witch themselves. So many of the witches Magical Girls fight are actually former Magical Girls. These witches are more powerful than usual ones, and their power level is directly related to the power of the Magical Girl they used to be.

2. Your soul is moved, you are given this gem right at the start which you are told is the source of your magic. But what you're not told is that it's where your soul is stored, so essentially you body is dead. It's preserved, it doesn't rot. But you're not in your body anymore, but in the gem. But you still control and use it as if you were in your body (hence the powers and insane endurance).

So yea, that's basically the premise of it if you didn't know.

If people want to start discussing ideas for general plot ideas/direction feel free, if nothing is suggested I'll probably set up a typical "Veteran Magical Person recruits new people, then they go on fighting witches until something bad happens" scenario.

The RP will be at a Low-Casual level, that way some detail and focus can be invested in post but you're free to really focus on the characters, the plot etc. and not worry about typing enough about say the temperature and colour of a doorknob in order to have an acceptable post. That way we get all the details/info that's actually important and can focus on the RP itself rather than minimum word requirements.

Current Characters

Suzuka Suzuhara

Nickname: "Su"

Gender: Female
Personality: Suzuka suffers from a serious lack of confidence in her own abilities, and a tendency to avoid her problems rather than face them directly. Outdoorsy, quiet and introverted, she's the kind of girl who'd spend hours watching water flow down a creek, for no real reason at all. While she agrees with the concept of books, she's never been as into them as others, and would much rather look at a pleasant painting or listen to calming music. Actively seeks friendship, but has difficulty communicating at times due to her lack of confidence.

Wish: "I just want to disappear..."

Bio: There exists no record of Suzuka's existence before her becoming a Magical Girl, even in the memory of the one who formed a contract with her. She has been a Magical Girl for two weeks, so while she's hardly on the same level as a veteran, she at least has a very rudimentary understanding of what her duty is and how to use her magical abilities. Has been travelling since she made her wish, and was guided here by the one who gave her the power of magic.

Magic/Abilities: Suzuka's primary magical ability is her Hiding Technique, better known by the name "Invisibility." Using this ability, she is able to cloak herself in magical energy to evaporate completely from sight and render herself or targets of her choosing completely undetectable. She is also capable of an Escape Technique, or "Short-Ranged Teleportation."

Besides her more personal abilities, she is able to use some fundamental magic using her ability to create a magical "Cloak" that covers objects or individuals. Like most magical girls, she has a personal weapon (In her case, Knives) that she is able to create and manipulate using magical power.

-Like all Magical Girls, Suzuka has an extraordinary amount of room for growth and expansion of her abilities. She is yet to develop a "Finishing move", but such a technique could very well appear in the near future, and she would not be surprised.

Personality: Chikako is extroverted and confident, never shying from an obstacle. However, she is rather naive, almost to the point of harming her, as she was raised and had a sheltered life. Deriving off of that, she likes to read and toy with instruments, creating melodies improvised without being able to recreate them later. She has friends nut often branches out for new friends.
Reason for Pact: Her mother became ill with a great sickness and Chikako prayed for her mothers health.
Bio: Chikako came from a sheltered family with rich parents. One day, as she struck fourteen, her mother caught a sickness that was hazardous to her health. By her mothers hospital bed, Chikako made her wish and ever since then, a week ago, Chikako has been a magical girl.
Magic/Abilities: Chikako's main ability is healing herself and others. She can also regenerate, albeit slowly.
Weapons: Medical tools summoned and thrown at people.

Miayko Komatsu

Name: Miyako Komatsu

Biological Sex: Female
Appearance:
Personality: Prefers to avoid direct conflict, but won't back down if faced with it. Tends to keep negative emotions repressed, especially sadness or anger. Can be a bit lazy. Otherwise, something of a show off extrovert.
Reason for Pact: She wanted to stop letting people down.
Bio: The oldest of several siblings, Myako always felt like she was under a lot of pressure to be the best, to be a role model for others to follow. And despite that, she always felt like she never measured up. She was only mediocre at best, in school, and as a person, at least in her opinion. So when the opportunity came for being a magical girl, she took it, and she'd like to think that she's relatively experienced, having been at it for over half a year now.
Magic/Abilities: Her magic has superboosted her body, making her faster, stronger than the average magical girl, and allowing her to push herself beyond even those limits for a small period of time. As a result, this does tend to burn through her magic relatively faster than others

Marco Hideyoshi

Personality: Marco is mostly seen as a cool, calm, and collected individual who tends to keep his thoughts and opinions to himself. An introvert by nature, he is considered quite aloof and usually remains distant from others. Despite his clear lack of social skills, Marco is still quite confident in his capabilities, be it physical, skill-oriented, or knowledge-based.

Wish: To completely rid his sister of her burns

Bio: Born into a wealthy family, Marco was raised with everything he had ever wanted and needed in life. In addition, not only was he raised by loving parents, but was also guided and looked out for by his elder sister. However, this fairy tale of a life soon ended several years ago when his home was burned to the ground. Although losing both his parents, Marco still had his sister, but unfortunately, she had sustained severe burns due to the accident. Since then, the person Marco had looked up to for so long, had change. She had became a shell of her former self due to the loss of everything they had along with her disfigured appearance. When Marco was given the opportunity to treat his sister, made the decision in a heartbeat.

Magic/Abilities: The magical ability Marco was bestowed with was the ability to generate and freely manipulate flames that are able to burn not only physical objects, but also the intangible.

Weapons: A pair of indestructible glove-like gauntlets and metal-clad shoes

Akiyama Toshiro

Name: Akiyama Toshiro

Nickname: Writes under an online nickname/blogger name 「東の秋」("Higashi no Aki/Autumn of the East")

Appearance:
Personality: Akiyama is someone who is paranoid for a reason he would never explain. As such, no matter where he is he will always have some sort of weapon. Even in school, he constantly has something he could use as a weapon within reach, always having at least some heavy blunt object he could use as a weapon in case... "they" come.

Constant unexplained paranoia aside, for someone who acts like he is constantly under threat of attack Akiyama is often absent-minded, daydreaming off into space and pondering things beyond the comprehension of others. He is soft spoken but he is willing to listen to people's troubles and offer advice and moral support.

Reason for Pact: N/A

Bio: Her name was Akiyama Kimiko. If she was alive, she would be fourteen right now.

Toshiro was the older brother of a magical girl. Contrary to the belief of many magical girls, not all of their non-magical friends are completely oblivious. For Toshiro, when he was thirteen and his sister twelve, he had noticed that she had begun disappearing from the house during the night. Concerned but not wanting to get her in trouble with her parents, Toshiro began following her out, only to lose her mysteriously. He followed her many nights before he finally managed to see her enter what he would later discover is a witch's labyrinth.

Moments later, that same labyrinth swallowed him up.

Inside the labyrinth, he fearfully cowered in a corner, hiding from the familiar before he finally heard the sounds of fighting. Looking up, he saw his younger sister fighting against the monsters. Together they escaped and she explained herself and the system of magical girls, as well as how her magical ability was mental and emotional manipulation. Too bad she didn't know about soul gems and their true nature.

Through her experiences, Toshiro accompanied her and gave her moral support; easing her burden greatly. For his sister it seemed like things were finally looking up.

Then she died fighting a witch.

Rushing to the site, all he found was another magical girl carrying the remains of the soul gem that used to belong to his sister. The girl could only apologize for being unable to save her in time and disappeared, leaving Toshiro alone. Her family had no idea what had happened and as such Kimiko was forever listed as missing, for it would now be impossible to find a body to prove her death. He alone knew what really happened to his little sister.

Since the night she died, Toshiro began having nightmares. As if she had been some protective charm keeping them at bay, the night Kimiko died Toshiro began being plagued by nightmares of the labyrinth he had once been trapped in. Fearing that another witch could attack him at any time, from that day on Toshiro had always kept a weapon at a grab's reach. He also began a blog in order to write about his dreams as poems as a way to vent.

Magic/Abilities: N/A
Weapons: Depending on the legal status and what he could get away with at the moment, he may carry a five centimeter knife or a baseball bat in general public (sometimes both) and at school he has with him a heavy textbook. They're.. not gonna help much against what he's trying to protect himself against.
Other Gear: Soul Gem Shards (Carried in a pouch with him at all times), a laptop.
Other Details: Is completely non-magical.

Tyrien Hal

Nickname: Ty
Age: 18

Personality: Tyrien used to be a fun and loving individual, but a lot of that was lost during his service as a Magical Boy. Today he still aims to act rather protective and loving of anyone else who has taken the pact, but is far more blunt and serious. Seemingly filled by anger and pain, a very dangerous thing for anyone who has taken the pact to possess for they could become a witch. But is skill in fighting powerful witches as well as what relief he get's from those he fights beside seems to keep him stable enough to avoid turning.

Reason for Pact: To gain the power to kill witches, and bring back the ones he had formerly lost to them.

Bio: Tyrien when he was 10 lost his older sister to suicide, a sister he loved very much. This hurt him dearly, but he managed to keep going in life. Then again though at 14 he lost his girlfriend to suicide, which tore at him the most. But it was then he noticed something odd, both of them showed no signs of pain before killing themselves and both were found dead in roughly the same area, at a run down hospital. Most others brushed it off as coincidence, but Tyrien was too determined and grief-stricken to let it go. So he investigated, upon spending some time there he suddenly found himself trapped in the witch's realm. Where thankfully he was saved by a Magical girl and the situation explained to him.

After learning about these witches and how they caused the death of his girlfriend and sister he asked to join up. In which case Chaxi arrived and offered to make a pact, which Tyrien was fully willing to sign up for right there simply to get revenge. But upon learning of the wish each person is granted he used it to bring back his sister and girlfriend that he lost to the witches.

During his starting years there was a group of Magical Girls and Boys who banded together to fight witches, they had a strong partnership going and everything was yell. This lasted for about a year before one of them lost their parents in a fatal accident. Grief stricken this Magical Girl turned into a witch, in front of the others and attacked them on sight. Half of the group were slain in that fight, the other half making it out with their lives and now haven the duty to slay the the witches of the comrade's they had lost. They did so rather successful now that they were prepared, but that event shattered the group. Since that day everyone was on a timer for when they themselves gave in to the pressure and turned or were killed in battle because their group was no longer at full strength.

After another year of this, Tyrien and one other named Tokoma were left. Tokoma decided to go solo, deciding at that point it was better to fend for yourself and prey on others rather than get attached and have it eventually crumble, but out of loyalty of old times promised to leave Tyrien alone. Tyrien however knew that with so many people gone that Chaxi would start finding more people, he knew that those people would die quickly if left without any guidance, which Tokoma now preying on them and Chaxi doing everything he can to make them turn quickly. With that he dedicated himself to finding new magical girls and boys, and see if he could try to rebuild the partnership that once existed. And if he couldn't at least he might give them a fighting chance.

Magic/Abilities: He is able to focus magic onto his lance or shield.

If focused on his lance it allows him to make a very damaging blow, where if he pierces deep enough the witch is as good as dead. But if it's a glancing hit the magical energy still creates an explosion, weakening the witches defenses for future attacks.

If focused on his shield, it allows him to make some barriers around either himself or a nearby ally. If used on himself is simply increases his ability to take a hit, but not by too much. It often just serves as a way to avoid being knocked or flown back when trying to close in on an enemy. But if used to protect an ally it redirects the majority of the damage onto himself instead.

Weapons: He posses a lance and an Iron Shield.
Other Gear: Leather Armor, but due to magical enhancement it defends as well as full plate and gives them maneuverability as if he wasn't wearing armor at all.

Tokoma Kei

Name: Tokoma Kei

Personality: Patient, relaxed and calculated. One would be tempted to say she is like an Incubator in human form. If not for the fact that all her actions are done for personal benefit, not the gain of any cause or purpose, and that she is quick to lash out in anger if something isn't going the way she intended. Which although granted is not often considering she usually plan's well enough to advance.

Reason for Pact: Tokoma had wished for wealth. But not for a reason as basic as self interest. She originally made the wish because she and all her friends and cousins had grow up in a very poor neighbourhood. Where even rent and food was hard to come by, let alone decent clothes, medicene or any kind of decent education. So she wished for enough wealth so she and all her friends could get out of such horrid conditions and live a decent life (more in bio).

Bio: Tokoma was born to an abused mother and a abusive father. But her mother never once stood up for herself, always letting herself and Tokoma be hurt by her father. Hating her father for this, and her mother for letting it happen she ran off at the age of 12. Even the streets were better than staying there, but eventually she got caught up in gang/street life. She learned to fight quickly and did what she had to in order to survive. But this gang life wasn't one about say turfs, colours, race or anything like that. It was a bunch of people, rejected by society who simply banded together to survive and what scraps they had.

Living conditions got so bad, with so many people dying from illness, cold or starvation that she eventually ended up making a pact at the age of 15 to change all that. She got the wealth needed to get her and everyone else with her out of such a life style, and living well. At first they were all thrilled, living such a well off life they didn't think twice. But soon they got suspicious, they knew this money had to come from somewhere, and started questioning Tokoma. She feared telling them cause it then risked them giving involved in the fighting with witches. But precisely because she avoided telling them is what caused them all to one night betray her, they took all her money, hacked her account and then threw her on the street. Outraged, she soon return and violently took back what was hers. Devastated she was getting close to becoming a witch, but thats when another magical girl arrived seemingly to have sensed it. She comforted her, and offered her a place among a number of magical boys and girls, where she'd be treated as family. In desperation she agreed and joined them, but it was not long after this group fell apart from others turning into witches where only she and Tyrien were left.

So now, having been betrayed by one group and lost another she decided it was better to look out for herself. So she now lives a life of fighting witches alone, and preying on weaker magical girls and boys when she can. Only leaving Tyrien alone out of some deep sense of loyalty to the old times, and them both having essentially been brothers and sisters in arms.

Magic/Abilities: She is able to cast one of several enchantments on an arrow before firing.
All of the continuous effect's lasting as long as even the tip of the arrow remains stuck in the target.
1. Life Drain - She drains the life force of the target to herself, allowing her to heal wounds and get unfatigued at a far faster rate.
2. Slow - Slows down the target, effectively functions as a sleep spell is the target is weak enough. Generally though only fellow magical boys and girls are vulnerable enough to risk falling asleep from it.
3. Lightning - Her main offensive enchant, it essentially does heavy damage. But the lighting quickly disperses throughout the targets body on impact, potentially causing burns and wounds inside the targets body.

Weapons: Bow and Arrows
Other Gear: Essentially a black cloth outfit. With magic though it protects like chainmail, and lets her move even faster than she could naturally.

Chaxi The Incubator

Age: Presumably thousands of years old at least.
Gender Identity: Incubator's have no need for such thing.

Personality: Incubators lack any sense of emotion to really make a personality with. Chaxi along with other Incubators was sent to Earth for one goal, and one goal only. Therefore only having one goal, to turn humans into Magical Girls and Boys and harness the energy they create when they turn into witches. That is all Chaxi cares for, and Chaxi will go to any means needed to see it done.

Bio: Hailing from an advanced race in a galaxy far, far away Chaxi came to Earth in search of a means to keep the Universe a live. Since the Universe was dying by consuming more energy than it was creating. Upon having discovered humans and the energy they produce called 'emotion' Chaxi was deployed alongside other Incubators to harness this energy from them by manipulating them to essentially turn into witches, dispersing the energy for the Incubators to collect.

Magic/Abilities: The ability to grant wishes. Also has an infinite amount of spare bodies if the current one is ever destroyed.

Though I did manage to see a very quick flash of blue on the corresponding pic regardless, too quick though for me to determine if it was an unusual shade of blue or not.
