| In-Depth Appearance |All lean muscle and lean build, Jamie's fit for his age but not for any other reason but to stay healthy and get the stress off his back - so it's more lean muscle tone, than his uncle's abnormally peak human physicality. Maybe one day. Maybe not. His frame tends to lean toward an agile, almost wiry build. Lucky for him, it all fits evenly on his 5'9" height rather than oddly stretched over the length of his body.
He's got a knack for the more stylish wear and namely because his mother spoils him and gets him things he honestly doesn't need, didn't want, and didn't ask for. But, he can't blame her for having excellent taste in fashion and for wanting her son to keep up with the latest fashion trends. Really, though, it's unnecessary and if he had a choice in what to dress himself in, it'd usually be a pair of ratty, worn jeans with frayed edges and a t-shirt.
Other than that, Jamie usually looks like he's in a rush to wherever he's going. He takes deliberate steps, with a swagger that literally says 'get out of my way before I barrel you over,' and even if he doesn't have the man power to do it, he'll damn well try. What more, Jamie's usually got some kind of smug look on his face and a smirk that normally tugs at his lips. It's a side effect for having pretty much everything leave your mouth dripping with sarcasm. His voice is higher tone, with a little gravelly quality to it that's pretty evident in the morning. He talks with a sharp lilt and staccato tones, making sure whatever he says is pointed and leaves no prisoners.

Well, you know, someone's gotta be the asshole. Kind of an asshole. Anyone who knows Jamie well enough, knows that's a croc o' shit. Sadly, not many people actually know Jamie that well enough and he appears as a snarky know-it-all with a shit attitude. Honestly, though, Jamie doesn't mind that perception of him. Yeah he's loud and doesn't skimp on making as many innuendos as one man can fit into one sentence. He sure is prickly and, even though he does tend to make a lot of acquaintances, not many people see him beyond that 'He's a great guy to shoot the shit with and party.' Not that he parties a lot. Honestly, if he even went to one crazy high school party everyone would probably end up worrying for his well being. That's exactly how unaccustomed to people Jamie tends to be.
Aside from the tongue-in-cheek attitude he totes around, Jamie's often mislabeled as a misanthrope. He won't go around denying it - hell, if someone said it to his face, he'd agree - but it's honestly the antithesis to Jamie's actual feelings on human beings. He's honestly got a weird, detached thing going on in which he views people as more of a whole he doesn't like to attach himself to. Where Jamie honestly feels there's good in everyone, is willing to see when and why that isn't true most some of the time, Jamie never turns that microscope on himself. He tends to judge himself a lot harsher than his critics do and that ends up with a man who doesn't necessarily see himself as being worth saving. Other people? Yeah, there's always untapped potential in a person. There's always something that they can do better that he could never achieve. For a man with a brain that large, honestly, it's a little appalling that all the ego pumping doesn't actually affect his outlook on himself.
If Jamie had the money, he'd be more inclined to spend it on others in a well meaning way than to ever spend it on himself. Well, first, he'd give half of it to his family 'cause they kind of deserve that much.
Speaking of large minds, Jamie boasts a very mechanically and very scientifically inclined mind. Intelligent on those fronts, he tends to let that consume his time and effort. It's also his way of expressing any gratitude, as well as his way of helping others when he knows any other way is out of the question. Jamie can't read people, he can't provide emotional support, he's not really that good of a friend. But, what Jamie can do is fix just about any appliance, help you learn just about anything that's not history or English (or anything outside of math and science - though he is exceptionally bad at biology), can make your day with useless inventions, can throw gadgets and tools and a number of amazing things at you, yes. And that's all he'll give because that's all he knows how to give. Knowledge provides a lot and, honestly, he doesn't know how to provide anything but that.
He'd be a fucking awful teacher though. Dealing with teenagers as a teenager is enough of a mind fuck. Dealing with teenagers as an adult? He's not sure how his mother does it.

| Hobbies |Well, first off, anything relating to space and the science behind it gets this guy going like he'd been hopped up on ten cups of coffee prior. That one's just a given. When someone yells out 'Look at what Nasa found!' in his near vicinity, it's best to just get the fuck out of the way.
Other than that, Jameson has a knack for building things - just anything really, with whatever equipment he has at hand. It'll go from small little mechanical devices like a makeshift RC car to something vast and absolutely something an eighteen year old kid in small town Pennsylvania doesn't need. That's all on a need to know basis, however. Outside of this box of crazy, Jamie likes to go around the town pretty much asking people if they need their things fixed for free. This grates on the nerves of any repair company 'cause he tends to get in on their territory quicker than they can. If a kid's willing to run around town avoiding people by fixing things, well, damn he's gonna do just that. It usually gets him a free baked good (or any kind of food on hand) and a drink too.
| History |Honestly, the hardest part about looking back at what he's been through has to be the fact that he's a teenager and doesn't know even the minuscule amount of pain and effort and hardship his mother's been through. It's just looking at pictures, seeing just how bad they had it in those photo albums, noticing not one of them held anything but he and his mother until much, much later on. When he was running around like a snot nosed baby without a diaper, learning this and that did those pictures finally earn two more. And then, they'd become quite a family then.
Growing up, having those down-on-their-luck times just whiz by because he couldn't tell the difference - and thank god, that took some skill on his mother's part - didn't come as hard as it should have. And, even growing up as a complete and utter brat, Jamie never once took for granted what his mother worked her ass off for, nor what his uncles provided. If anyone got to see the extent of Jamie's affection, those three had first dibs and they often did. They were truly the only ones who saw Jamie outside of his hard shell, which in due part placed itself over his heart when he realized that not a lot in this world did much good. Not for his mother, not even for his two uncles, and certainly not for him.
These three people were all Jamie had in his life, that much was evident. That much made itself known and realizing how small and insignificant they were in the universe brought down a cold, hard truth. And maybe a fucking middle school aged kid shouldn't be spouting Friedrich Nietzche, but Jamie went through his 'scene' face quite early and when he left it, he left it a little colder, a little harder, and a lot more fucking snarky than he should be.
It didn't help that it took his mother a long, long time to get through to a job she could hold down nor did it help knowing that both his uncles worked countless hours just to help provide for them. And yet they not once looked at his mother or him with hatred in their eyes. To them, this was worth it and that should have been enough to at least soften Jamie, yet it only hardened him more. Because these people deserved better than what he and his mother provided them, and his mom deserved better than what some junkie artist gave her before shoving her to the streets. And maybe that's what really tipped Jamie a little over the edge, softened him to the people suffering quietly while hardening himself to what he deserved as a person.
Gifted with a brilliant mind, or at least what society liked to call brilliant - if it were up to him, Jamie wouldn't have anyone call him smart or anything for that matter. Honestly, his brain's just more inclined to a different type of thinking than other people and he doesn't usually like to laud that over his peers because he's pretty damn sure he can't do half the stuff they can. Regardless, even if they do call him brilliant and he doesn't agree, Jamie does think he can harness that kind of intelligence to at least help others more than himself. Of course, there's always going to be a modicum of his mind devoted to at least keeping him alive, but most of it is geared toward wanting to better other people even in as subtle a way as possible. Because if anyone finds out he's actually not as bad as he wants them to think he is, well, he's gonna have to prove them wrong, then.
Cause that tends to be a Hughes' thing, proving people wrong in the worst possible way imaginable.
| Family |Samantha Katya Hughes | Mother | (36)Run to Pittsburgh with a boy, three months pregnant, and with not a dime to your name. Exactly what Samantha did the minute she turned eighteen and thought she was in love. The man in question was the starving artist type who promised to make it big in a year or two. Thing is, he never did. Thing is, when little Sammy decided to let him in on a secret, he left her out dry and not just starving together, but starving in a gutter with a child she knew she couldn't care for.
Of course, no one in the Hughes house hold ever went down without a fight and though she desperately wanted to succumb to the cold hard pavement, she had a child to care for. Responsibility had been thrown out of the window, but when you're smacked hard in the face and dumped with the cold water of reality, that tends to work as a sufficient wake up call for anyone. But, it especially woke up Samantha.
In all her turmoil, the stress and the hardships and the idea that she could just get the baby removed for free and be able to take care of just one, just one person did their best to cave her. Abortion definitely was a choice for her and she might have taken it if she didn't feel so strongly for what grew inside of her - or if her vindication ever waned. Man, what she wanted most of all was to provide for her kid and make him or her happy, but second to that was showing that man he was wrong to step out and even more wrong about their chances of survival. She went kicking and screaming through her pregnancy, took up jobs, did what she could, found flatmates that would help when needed (thank god for that; if not for a few pitying looks, she might not have actually made it). She was lucky to find people willing to help provide for her when she no longer couldn't (and she paid them back in full whenever she could).
The baby popped out premature, but healthier than should have ever been possible. Little Jameson Hughes would grow fitter than most babies and with just as much fire in him as his mother, even through the first few years of health issues. And man, those were trying. When things looked too tough and Jamie didn't look at all like he was getting better, Samantha ran home after seven years of no contact, no anything. She'd come back to discover her parents dead and gone in a car accident and her brother having set up as a physician at the local clinic. Even despite everything, he gladly took her in and they'd set up in Red Lake ever since.
She'd just been happy to not miss out on her brother's lovely wedding.
Eric Grant Harris-Hughes | Uncle | (38)One of the physicians at Red Lake, Eric took his role as big brother very seriously, even two years older and still scrawnier than all hell. He didn't have a good time growing up, riddled with health issues when his sister was a glowing beacon of physical fitness. Even despite this Eric took up the role of protector to her and when things looked down, he'd step in ready to fight. It always made Samantha laugh knowing the first thing her stick of a brother would do is throw fists when he knew words wouldn't work. It also made her melt because Eric was the only person in her life who ever willingly took a beating for her - which he didn't, because Samantha can take care of her self, thank you, and that meant throwing punches at boys who threw punches at Eric.
So, of course it hit Eric the hardest when Samantha up and left while he made "fun" in college. He'd been so engrossed in his studying that he hadn't actually heard she'd gone missing until he was clear in medical school and looking to graduate early. The fact that he'd been so blind to the outside world almost had Eric dropping out completely, but a few friends and one childhood buddy made sure he kept trudging on through it. It wasn't until he'd landed a job at Red Lake's clinic, in his home town, right after his residency that he began looking extensively for Samantha, knowing the full story from both parents. At this time, he'd finally gotten his act together, decided to confess a long withheld love to his best friend (and nurse), and settled down with him in a house not far from his childhood home.
And then came his sister and Eric immediately jumped to her side, offering her food and shelter and medication even when she denied wanting any of it. She just came to see her brother, but he gave her everything she needed anyways, feeling as if he'd failed her completely. It wasn't until a few weeks later, when Jamie and Samantha looked at least moderately healthier that it hit him: he was a fucking uncle.
From then on, it became a task to make up for all those years he neglected looking for Samantha and trying to help her, even when both his sister and his boyfriend assured him that it was never his fault to begin with. Well, he says boyfriend now, but a few years after Sammy came home, when little Jamie was nine and roaming their old elementary school, he'd married the asshole and took over his parents' house - which had been sitting abandoned for quite awhile. He still pays for the old house (or at least most of it, since Sammy has a job) where Samantha and Jamie live and come over for frequent visits.
Ryan Harris-Hughes | Uncle [in-Law] | (38)Quiet Ryan Harris lived two houses down from the Hughes. He'd met Eric first and Sammy second, well he met them both at the same time, but his eyes had been on Eric the entire time. Scrawny little fourth grader just barely taller than most of the second graders standing fists up in front of a little second grade girl with fiery strawberry blonde hair and scrapes on her knee. That little boy proceeded to get beat up by the fifth graders, but not until Ryan stepped in to get beat to a pulp, as well. They served detention together for an entire week, sitting opposite to the bullies they'd sought to knock down a peg - well, they did, technically, but they still got roughed up for it. That trail blazed the start of a very long, very fantastic friendship.
From elementary school to high school and beyond, Ryan Harris never once left Eric's side, not even when the guy found a sudden stride in his physical health and gained about three sizes on him and about two inches, to boot. And then Ryan, with his lithe muscles and shorter frame, became what Eric was to him and his sister, who they both took to protecting fiercely, even despite her spitfire nature. So, of course it hit Ryan just as hard when he'd heard of Samantha's run away stunt and it hit Eric even harder to know Ryan hid that from him for over a year. They hadn't quite reconciled until they both went home for that summer - that summer was so emotionally and sexually charged, neither knew what to think other than to sweep it under the rug.
It wasn't until after both Eric and Ryan finish their respective college work did they both kind of got their heads outta their asses. They, however, did take that time between Ryan waiting for Eric's residency to settle down further and find a job in Red Lake. Ryan became one of Red Lake's nurses, side by side with Eric and they both found a small apartment close to their job to get on their feet before settling in a recently for sale house in their childhood neighborhood. Ever since, it's just been a smooth ride to marriage with a few happy bumps in the form of Samantha returning with a little one in her arms and a few unhappy bumps due to usual stress related situations.
