Since everyone here dismisses this event as something insigificant that they don't care about (because it's totally cool and edgy to deride celebrity culture as nonsense, I get it, I really do), I'm going to educate the lot of you on why this is actually something important. It's leaks like this that epitomize the death of privacy and the dangers of a fully digital society, where everything is stored remotely and is theoretically accessible by anyone. I'm sure everyone has at some point looked at cloud storage services and thought "but what if it gets hacked?" but how many of you have given that serious thought? We can assume that most/all of these celebrities whose precious nude photos were leaked had automatic cloud storage/backup enabled on their phones and never thought about the consequences. It takes big, widely publicized shit like this to cause change in societies. Now that Jennifer Lawrence's tits are out on the internet against her will, people all over the world are suddenly paying attention to cloud storage and digital crime. Most people are of course decrying these leaks as massive invasions of privacy that are morally wrong, but we also see just how much interest it generates and how much demand there apparently is for this kind of stuff. Paparazzi are already outdated -- why bother taking the pictures when you can just steal the ones the celebrities take themselves?

Is it apparently that easy? Is all your precious and private information and data just a few clicks away from a hacker to take advantage of? It seems so, if you're not careful about where you store your stuff. That's why the Fappening is important. It marks the moment in history in which the average citizenry of America becomes aware of the new kind of society we live in.
