Personality expanded on quite a bit. Valen don't have much outside his work as it were. Its what happens when someone is raised to be one way. What he does have revolves around his vices (drinking, picking fights).

As in expanding on it in the personality section? Becouse his life was pretty much all military all the time up until his desertion. He was raised to be military man, what time he didn't dedicate to it was spent with his lover. Seing how he was a bodyguard, he didn't exactly have much other time to do things. It would be kinda arbitary to put in things into the background that makes no sense in context to his proffesion. I could delve deeper into his psyche with the personality section though.
