Lothair pointed at the fleeing stalker "He's the one who made the mess! That bloody pickpocket!" He urgently blathered trying to continue the pursuit. He figured that if he could get the angry man to help them catch the suspect, then things would be a lot easier since the angry man was a native after all... he probably knew these streets and alleys like the back of his hand. Regardless, Lothair wanted to continue the pursuit regardless of what the angry man thought. He looked over at Riley to see what she had in mind...

When they were spotted Riley jumped into action. While Lothair had turned to talk to the angered shopkeep she drew her crossbow and pulled a bolt from her cloak, not wanting to chance the stranger catching her or Lothair with whatever he had on him if they ran him down. She loaded the bolt and quickly dropped to a knee to take aim, going for the runners legs, well preferably the legs, honestly as long as the hit wasn't lethal...by the time Lothair had turned back around he would hear the twang of her loosing the bolt.

The bolt whizzed by the corner of Lothair's eye as he turned. He turned to look at Riley, with her crossbow aimed at the fleeing man. He was dumbfounded... just as he was trying to convince this man that the fleeing perpetrator was the guy he wanted to chase... here she was about to potentially kill this poor sod. If he wasn't so involved, his hand would have swiftly found its place on top of his face... in fact he was almost tempted as he didn't want to look at what happened next. However, it was clear that things were about to get dangerous. Thus, he had a hand rest on the pommel of his sword, ready to draw it in case a fight broke out.
Yea, it looks like it was a 24 hr temporary link.
Lothar frowned slightly. Was this job really worth it? He looked at his supposed "peers" for this job and didn't feel too confident in the motley group's abilities based on first look. He had some coin on him, so he was far from desperate for this contract. But this job would allow him to travel and search the world without a concern for money... and focus only on searching for her. He sighed again and replied "Aye, I shall join. This down payment should be enough to buy the needed equipment... and maybe some extra muscle or guides." He then paused to think. They would need to get several things. At the minimum, they would want to hire a local hunter or a guide who knows the area decently. They should also visit a local historian to see if they know more about the history of the area and the Keep.

Lothair then asked one final question "Are we allowed to act as your agents and use your name in getting things that we may need?"
Got a quick post up about landing and making a settlement.

Boots splashed on the coast line as a score of men jumped off of the zodiac.The men fanned out and went deeper inland to secure the beachhead. Cpt. Abrams urged his team forward. They were exposed out in the open on the beach, and ran to the brush some hundred meters ahead. The entire process took several minutes, but the radio came alive "All clear." The beach would soon be swarming with activity as the refugees and the crew finally could walk on land after so long at sea. The coast seemed clear, and these people found a new place to call home. People started clearing the area and the island in general and buildings started to rise.

Some time would pass and the first settlement of the Bastion, Wolf's Haven, was up and running. Thanks to the extra power generated by the Enterprise, the settlement had plenty of power to operate tools and machinery. The Mercy set up shop on land with a large medical center/research lab among the first things created on the island. The doctors and scientists were hard at work trying to learn more about these lands and the native organisms. There was a real concern among the doctors that there might be a native species similar to human that had diseases that could be transmitted to humans and vice versa... however, they had yet to find anything substantial, a small blessing.

The Laramie went off to explore the coast and nearby islands for resources as the engineers were in a rush to find a source of oil while the Zumwalt escorted it. These were strange lands. They had found giant crabs along the coast, which were a nice treat to supplement the crew's diet. But the native life here seemed to be larger than those back in the old world. It seemed that there were large stretches of unsettled land as otherwise these animals would never have become this large. Regardless, they all had to be ready for the worst. Every day for an hour, the marines, led by Cpt. Abrams helped train everyone in drills and practice so that if need be then they could raise a trained militia. Other than that, the settlers were busy building and civilizing these strange lands.

It had been a week since they went through the portal. Most of the equipment was unloaded and the basics were set up in this settlement. The Bastion landed in an island close to the southern part of the continent. Fields were plowed and seeded. Small factories and workshops were noisy, trying to pump out enough processed goods to meet the demand for building material. Things seemed to be going well, which is why Lothar called for a meeting with the council. At the council, Lothar proposed something drastic. That the fleet return to the Old World. This was not to just leave this strange continent. Rather, it was to help other refugees who sought to leave the war torn and damned lands of Earth. The entire trip was expected to last a month, but it would require splitting the fleet, a dangerous proposal. The Captain of the Mercy agreed with the plan. The Laramie was neutral while the Captain of the Zumwalt raised concern that splitting the fleet would weaken it in these uncertain times.

Lothar was confident that the settlement would be fine even without half the fleet as much of the precious equipment and cargo was now safe. However, he did agree that it was a bit of a risk... a risk worth taking. Thus, within a week of arriving, the Mercy and the Zumwalt had set out to the gate once more to help others who sought to leave the god forsaken Old World.

Summary:

The Bastion lands on an island and settles there, forming Wolf's Haven

The settlers are working on building up the settlement and are trained daily by the marines in the event of an emergency

The Laramie is surveying the local waters and islands for resources

The Enterprise remains at the settlement to protect it and provide energy and services

The Mercy and the Zumwalt drop off much of its scientists, refugees, equipment, and marines before they begin their trip back to the Old World to bring back more refugees.
Oleg, Day 5

Watching the rabbit digging, Oleg just kept still, hid and kept watching. He thought about throwing a rock over to the other side and trying to startle the rabbit so that it would run towards him. But, that was still risky... the rabbit was likely on alert, knowing that it was exposed currently. This was not the opportune time to strike. Oleg decided that he would just wait. The rabbit was spending a lot of energy digging anyways and would start to slowly lower its guard as time went by. Oleg would then strike once its new home was almost done as the longer it dug, the more tired it would be, and the harder it would be to run away as the rabbit continued to ostensibly dig its own grave with each passing second... Oleg just waited for the perfect opprotunity.
Lothair's right eye cocked slightly as he listened to the Lord's monologue. He couldn't tell if he should be amused or concerned at all the... implications that his words had. With that said, he had come all the way here for a reason... to simply walk away was not possible. Thus, Lothair spoke up "Well, Lord Guthbert, this issue of yours has been going on for quite a while, yes? I imagine that a man as accomplished and intelligent as you wouldn't have just sat around and done nothing about the problem. Surely, we're not the only people that you have reached out to in order to deal with this issue you have in the south? Not to mention... this generous payment that you're offering. This isn't a small problem. Nay, this is a problem that has so far plagued even the hardy men of Beldemar for who knows how long."

He paused and slightly sighed. "Lord Guthbert, I will be frank. It appears that you're not telling us everything that you know of the situation. I would like to be WELL prepared for this job, but that requires more knowledge."
Oleg, Day 5

@Jangel13

It took a bit of time as Oleg slowly worked on a crude ax. He chipped away at the edge of the stone and slowly turned it into an edge. With a bit more elbow grease, he set it into a large stick and tied it with some strips of bark. Finally! He got up, proud of his creation and tested it on a tree. A solid thunk came from the strike and a satisfying cut into the tree. With a proper weapon, Oleg finally went off to hunt and look for food... anything that he could hopefully reasonably handle.
@Jangel13

Oh, I can assume that I can just find stuff like that? Didn't know. Thought it would have to be subject to a search roll or something. Maybe find something else.
