Editing powers breaks what formula? If I come up with a good new power then that's one of the reasons I'm doing this.
I'm thinking of letting you guys make your introductory posts before I have my guys come in to start the battle so I can make them more matched to what I think your characters can do, although I could just edit their powers to match after the fact.
Name, appearance, and powers would be the only thing they'd truly need.
An addition to that, it would be important to mention equipment.
I'll start posting them as they are completed.
The date of the roleplay, as questioned in your characters, has nothing to do with Earth time. They use a new calender for the multiverse as a whole. Timelines get all mumbo jumbo'd up where some alternate realities of Earth you could visit would be experiencing different events in a different time. In our Earth time, year 0 of the multiverse calender likely takes place around the year 2020 or something. This roleplay will be the year 30 in the multiverse timeline. (I just pulled that number out randomly). As for your head hunter, good luck for him bringing 100 heads back like this. Or maybe he just needs one to prove he was at the battle at least. Or a specific rival character of some sort.
Edit:Do the characters have to have a backstory or anything like that or can they just be a person with a name and powers?
Name, appearance, and powers would be the only thing they'd truly need.
Plot A group of villains labeled "Big Bad" is considered too dangerous to be left to their own devices or else they may pose a serious threat to the multiverse. A call for assistance in eliminating them has been accepted by 100 diverse individuals, most of them heroes but some being other villains who have their own reasons for wanting Big Bad out of the picture. They gather together at Big Bad's base on a planet that's otherwise deserted. Unfortunately it turns out to be an evil labyrinth that has many tricks up it's metaphorical sleeves, splitting up the 100 individuals into much smaller groups and forcing them to fight the Big Bad members in waves. Big Bad still has the odds stacked against them, but the battle is not over until the fat lady sings! (Is...is the final boss going to be a singing fat lady?!) Rules 1. This battle is mainly for fun (and testing out my numerous characters to better figure out their capabilities in actual combat) rather than simply winning at any cost. Therefore, we're not going to go into high levels of scrutiny to analyze our every move. If you believe your character should be able to move fast enough to dodge the attack, go for it. Come up with a cool power (that makes sense for them) mid battle? Go for it. We don't need to post any character sheets for this, explaining everything relevant to the current situation as it comes up in the IC. However, you can post character sheets if desired. 2. Besides #1 making things far more lenient, standard arena battle rules still apply such as not controlling someone else's character, unavoidable attacks, or doing the damage from an attack in your post (unless the person you'd be doing these things to gives you the power to do them to your post). You post what you expect the attack to do such as saying "I swing my sword at his arm to try and cut it off" rather than saying "I swing my sword and cut off his arm". The other person explains if the attack managed to connect and the results. This means that each post would first start with a reaction to your opponent's post (if they did anything against you) and then your own action (likely in retaliation but your own action could just be running away crying if you want). You can post your actions to take as long as you want, such as saying you do cartwheels for five hours, but in your opponent's post, if at any time during those five hours they would do something to interrupt them, the rest of your cartwheels after that point would not have taken place. Your next post would be reacting to this new information rather than continuing the cartwheels unless you say you will do them again after being interrupted...for some reason, and if you are still able to. 3. Sci fi, fantasy, realistic, etc. is all allowed. Just make sure your character isn't so powerful it makes most of the characters pointless. This means that we should start out with max power of around able to destroy a small village single handedly. We can slowly up the stakes as time goes on as we all agree it would be a good thing to do. There could be a mix of weaker characters as well who could fight each other or team up to take down the more difficult threats. 4. Any number of you can join the group Big Bad with any number of characters, and by "character" they can be generic cannon fodder or even very weird like a swarm of evil butterflies. They don't have to all be involved at the beginning. We can claim that they were simply somewhere else in the labyrinth until they managed to show up. I'm controlling all 100 of the heroes/villains sent to fight Big Bad. You might think they will be the 100 characters (at the time of this writing) posted in my Character-A-Day, but you'd be wrong! I will indeed be taking heavily from there, but I will also be using more characters I'm planning to add to my list of character sheets at a later date. That being said, prepare for a ton of surprises from never before seen characters! 5. There's no set number of opponent's you guys will fight in each wave and when a new wave shows up; it's up to my discretion to make it an interesting fight by pushing you guys harder with each wave. Due to me wanting to get a chance to use all of them, or at least most of them, you guys should be able to defeat most of the waves even if it will seem like it would be a very close call or even against you. You guys can pull a lot of insanely lucky maneuvers to help you get through this if you'd like. 6. You guys as a team can decide on posting order and then I'll get my own post in once everyone has made one post. Your decided posting order can change for each round of these postings depending on situation. For example, some of you might not be able to post for a couple days so let others post before you, or perhaps are wanting to see what one character will do before making an action of your own. 7. If members on your team have not posted after 5 days in inactivity, the inactive people will have their turn skipped unless they provided advance notice for us to wait for them. This skip of their turn will be represented in battle as them simply not reacting quickly enough to current events for whatever reason. If everyone else on the team agrees then they can skip that person's turn before 5 days is up, or if the person themselves says to skip them. In the event that a turn is skipped and they were under attack, I can post the attack connected and it's damage. The same can be said if I'm inactive for 5 days once everyone has made their post. 8. No R rated love making randomly thrown in for whatever reason. This is not only impractical to do mid battle (like...seriously...how?!) but it's also distracting for everyone involved. 9. Although I have the final say on things, this is a roleplay for fun so I will do my best not to be a dictator to crush you guys underfoot. Please feel free to bring to my attention any ideas or criticism you have to make this roleplay better and fix problems. Maybe I haven't thought of it yet so won't hurt to bring to my attention if I missed something important. 10. Have fun!
I'm getting it typed up as we speak. (The OOC, not the IC, but posting the OOC will also bring up the character sheet area). You don't need to post your character sheet for this but you a certainly allowed to as desired. EDIT: Here it is: http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/76994-100-vs-big-bad/ooc
They explained it well enough so I'll not be adding too much unless you guys have a question. This fight will use the normal rules as linked to but won't be as strict, allowing you guys to get away with a bit more extra stuff you wouldn't in a serious competition such as getting unusually lucky and of course the whole business of making up powers on the fly being possible (which I have to stress is highly frowned upon in most arena battles, so also be sure to see if you need to post character sheets first in other arena battles and don't deviate from their listed powers). I'll post the thread for this today unless something horribly unexpected happens.
I'd be more than willing to enter, as long as I'm permitted to use a... Particularly assholish quartet of characters.
As long as they aren't as annoying for me as they would be for my characters.
I work on the weekends, friday, and every other thursday (this thursday being a work day), so would probably only post about as much as you, Vordak, so you wouldn't worry about leaving me waiting on those days. Of course I could post later during those days if needed.
I'm in the process of creating a ton of characters that I have yet to have a chance to try out, so...anyone willing to help me out in this endeavor and have fun doing it? The basic way it will go down is this: 1. In this battle you (or a team of you) will be the bad guy due to me having way more good guys that I need to try out than bad guys (and if my bad guys join in it's way easier to explain why two bad guys would be fighting than good guys). 2. Any number of you guys can team up to fight me with any number of characters of your own. They don't have to all be in the battle at the start, just like how mine will be coming to fight you in waves. The term "character" can also be used loosely. Feel free to have cannon fodder #3 if you desire. 3. How powerful or numerous your characters are will determine how many and powerful my own characters will be so that we can have an exciting battle that seems like it could go either way (but of course I have 100 characters to get through so will be expecting to loose a lot). Let's stick with "dangerous enough to destroy a town" at max power characters at the beginning so you can't just blow up the world and ruin most of my characters from having a chance. Later on in the fight we can upgrade if we all feel like it would be fun. 4. This battle is just for fun (well, and to flesh out character traits but let's ignore that for now), so no highly technical stuff is needed or detailing the characters to each other beforehand (I'm sure you'd hate to have to read 100 character sheets before you can fight). This means that we can even come up with new powers for the characters on the fly, although please have it make sense for the character and not break the game, thus making it no longer fun. I will not make up new powers simply to get out of a situation, only if I think it would be a good idea that they would have the power . After all, I'm trying to come up with the best characters in terms of appeal rather than winning. Of course if you need to survive 100 characters than I don't mind as much if you pull some shifty stuff as long as it isn't done in an annoying fashion/make my characters useless. 5. The characters can be fantasy, sci fi, modern, etc, so you have a lot of freedom. They can even be a sentience mass of evil butterflies! (well, I might take that character idea but you get the picture, it can be practically anything). 6. The plot of the battle, to fulfill all the stuff I have in mind, would have to be something like your characters are labeled as highly dangerous to the multiverse and need to be brought to justice. However, all 100 heroes (and villains who want to eliminate the competition) cannot join in at once due to being caught in some evil labyrinth you guys created to split them up and funnel them in one way or another to fight in groups. (This means you guys can control the battlefield as well to try and thwart me). Once eliminating all of the attackers, you guys can escape to freedom! Or maybe there are another 100 attacks who will track you down at a later point...or even...1,000?! Anyone interested?
