Of course! It's obviously to distract your enemy! (Disclaimer: even though a lot of the enemies are monsters anyways and nobody in their right mind would be distracted in battle for that. Don't try this at home)

I like my turn-based/ATB battle systems, though. : (
I'm using turn based in my RPG Maker VX Ace game I'm making...because I have to, but still. ;) If any of you have advise on what you'd like included in my game then let me know and I'll see if I have the know how to add it in. I'm just starting it up so basically have a blank slate to work with, although I do have the general plot in mind, the world map around the starting location, and two main characters.
And who knows, maybe I can make a yuri dating sim game as well that I'm sure you all would enjoy. That would be easier to make as long as I can draw all of the background images and characters, or find good free to use background images.
As for final fantasy's "decline", turn based RPGs can be good, but I don't mind them experimenting with other ways to fight as well. Crisis Core was pretty good and that came after 7...although it's based around the 7 story, but that still counts. X and XII I found enjoyable. Maybe not the greatest games ever, but they were good games. You can tell they put in a lot of effort at the very least. 13 was okay. Good music at least and it did get better later on. I'm stuck in 13-2 finding the things to open the portals and I'm not planning on getting lightning returns any time soon.

Appearance: Mealstar's true form is an orangish yellow blob of goo about the size of a curled up human. It has the power to change it's shape so no further description can be given here.
Personality: He greatly values justice and is strict on others to adhere to this, being considered a stick in the mud by some. He could certainly benefit from loosening up a bit, but that's not happening any time soon. On the bright side he truly cares for his companions, willing to sacrifice his life for the greater good. He tends to over-exaggerate stuff and be dramatic, which might seem contradictory to his normal mood, but he doesn't see himself as being silly even if he often errs on that side of things often.
Abilities
Physical Attributes- The blob form is strong enough to hold up the weight of an elephant before being squashed and "slither" around at speeds of up to 20 miles an hour. However, upon changing form then these qualities might change. For example, if he turns into a large pair of legs then obviously he can run much faster, or if he turns into a muscular looking arm then he can hit harder then if he used a twig-like arm. This is because the gel that he's made up of can be thought of as many cells working together without a cell wall, so the more of these "cells" he has combining together on the task then the more powerful that task can become. He has no skin or outer membrane of any kind so cannot bleed, and all pieces of his gel can retain sentience that all compile into the single sentience that is Mealstar.
Energy Infusion- If you're wondering how he can die, that would be because of energy. His gel is infused with energy given to him by the magical girls. This energy is naturally regenerated at a slow pace as he absorbs it from the surrounding nature, although this is not quick enough to sustain himself in battle. Fighting requires energy, which depletes even faster if he's getting the snot beat out of him. It can come to the point where he doesn't have the strength to hold himself together any more and the gel melts, only moving again if someone gives him energy, as he no longer has the energy to even be able to draw energy in from his environment if put in that position.
Combat Knowledge- He has a lot of knowledge about fighting magical girls and monsters that would fit in with that setting.
Powers
Shapeshifting- His default form that requires minimal energy to maintain is his blob form. His second easiest is a walking star shape. His preferred form in combat is a featureless humanoid without fingers or toes, appearing slightly child-like but he does turn more large and masculine when mad. He might change into just individual body parts, so can form a huge arm out of the blob to smash people with, for example. A butterfly form would be much more dense then a human form, although he actually can't get all of his gel into a form much smaller then a cat or larger then a rhino because of density issues. The more dense he is the more sturdy he is to damage, but he can get more power out of forms with more room to maneuver, so his small forms are more defensive while his large forms are more offensive. He can change his form to things not mentioned in this sheet as long as it would be reasonable that he'd know what it looks like and would be comfortable enough moving around with that form.
Flotation- His gel can float, but only while this power is active, which takes energy, and his gel becomes less dense for that moment, meaning his defense goes down.
Magical Gel Starburst- A potentially powerful yet double edged sword attack. He can convert any amount of his gel's matter to energy, sending it forward in a sparkling display of awesomeness. This requires half a second to convert a spoonful of his gel to energy or 10 seconds for his entire body (a suicide attack). The energy is not lost forever but will eventually coalesce and drop back to the ground, regaining his sentience. This would take around 5 minutes a spoonful.
Ultimate Rebound- His entire body's defense is raised dramatically for 5 seconds so that attacks not overly powerful, both physical and magical, will bounce away. It take 10 seconds to charge and you see his body rippling oddly before it finishes. The cool down for this move is 10 minutes.
Psychic Connection- He can communicate telepathically with anyone his gel is on, so he commonly leaves a small piece of him on people for this purpose. His "mind" is practically immune to any unwanted attempts at entrance.
Wishing Star- While in his star form, upon activate this move he starts rippling and glowing like crazy for 30 seconds. After this time is up a shooting star (in the appearance of a cartoon star) about the size of a car falls from the sky homing in within 100 meters of his location, visible for 10 seconds before impact, causing massive damage equivalent to a missile strike.

Bio
Mealstar was born due to a spell cast by a large group of magical girls working together. They didn't know what to name him so they all gave suggestions and just added on whatever first sprung into their mind, as they couldn't all agree on a single name. Mealstar's first name, given the honors by the "leader" of the magical girls, was most likely a result of that girl being hungry for a meal and the goo was in the shape of a star upon it's creation, two things that came to mind and she just smashed them together. He was created to help them fight crime as their artificial familiar, although someone was off with their spell and he ended up on the side of evil for a while, a being without a conscience. He was about to aid in the destruction of the world after gaining control of some MacGuffin magical device. However, the magical girls who created him broke down in tears, blaming themselves for his misdeeds and tried to convince him to refrain from finishing the dark deed. Their tears were absorbed into his body, becoming a part of him that gave him a conscience. He then helped the girls fight off the monster of the week who had put him up to that task. He served on the side of justice from that point on but would occasionally whip them into shape with a tough love regiment to make sure they wouldn't make similar mistakes again. He has trained many generations of magical girls, some of which very well known and powerful. He has also gone on the front lines on occasion should they need his help.

He has silver hair styled with long straight bangs and a slight bowl cut (an example of the hair, not the face) with a large strand of hair on each side of his face going in front of his ears. He has light green eyes. His skin is slightly on the pale side. His body is small and lean. He doesn't wear makeup. He wears androgynous to feminine style clothing, rarely wearing clothing designed for men. If he does that then people assume he's a cross dressing woman. He tends to avoid vibrantly colored clothing in favor of navy blue, black, and white color schemes.
Personality: His most distinguishing characteristic is that he's incredibly stoic to the point where he's developed a habit to outright state his emotions should it be important for those listening to know. Although soft spoken, he's not shy as people would assume. He's not embarrassed about cross dressing in the slightest. He would not bother hiding the fact or correcting people for referring to him as male or female. Therefore, if someone asks him his gender he will say male, but if they say "she" then he wouldn't mind that way either. He doesn't cross dress out of perversion or an identity crisis, simply saying that it feels right to wear such clothes and it has become a habit. Due to not caring much what others think he would be unlikely to change based on peer pressure (that would actually make him more adamant to continue if it's not a hassle). That being said he can be really stubborn as he seldom takes what others say or feel into account when taking action. He has a lot of funny/bizarre habits, not including his cross-dressing.

His powers are over sound, or more technically vibrations. When using his magic the vibrations gives a visible distortion and glow slightly translucent white. Using his powers requires energy, so he would tire out rather quickly if doing heavy combat.
Sound Enhancer/Negator- He can create a vibrating sphere with a 12 foot radius from the center of his body. Any vibrations entering this sphere is enhanced or negated by up to four times the amount. He can only go with one way or the other at any given moment within the entire sphere. The power of the vibrations quickly goes back to normal upon leaving the sphere if enhanced, although if negated then the vibrations don't regain power after leaving.
Sonic Boom- He can jerk an arm or a leg quickly forward to send a vibrating wave off of it that travels in the direction he swung, accompanied by the familiar sound of a sonic boom. For example, if he punches straight forward then a boom will shoot off straight forward, while if he did a spin kick then it will extend out in all directions. He has to charge the attack by holding the limb in the ready position to get any real power out of it, so if he just did a quick jab then the sonic boom would be enough to scatter some grass. If he held his arm back for 3 seconds and then punched it could knock over unprepared people, and at max output for around 20 seconds of charge he can punch through steel plates.
Sonic Scalpel- In 5 seconds vibrations form around his hand or foot that can cut and repel things as well as a steel blade.
Sonic Beam- He opens his mouth, and after 50 seconds of charge for maximum output a huge beam of compressed vibrations bursts out to cause massive devastation capable of making the environment look like an F5 tornado tore through it in a straight line. You can hear the sound of it being unleashed for miles. This move requires all of his magical energy being focused into it so he can't also be using his sound enhancer, for example.
Sonic Cushion- He can suspend himself slightly in the air by using sound waves out of the soles of his feet, allowing him to skate around on the air. He can also use this technique to add extra push to his kicks without having to make physical contact with the target. His hands could make use of the same technique but are not as good at it.
Stunning Shout- Drawing his magical energy through his vocal chords, he can let out a shout that can possibly stun and do damage to the eardrums of people who are within 8 feet.
Matter Vibration- He can vibrate his own molecules or, if he has physical contact with it, vibrate something/someone else's molecules. The practical uses are whatever can be done as a result of vibrating molecules, such as (but not limited to) warming up body temperature and vibrating glass to it's natural frequency in order to break it. He could do the same on humans with a whole ton of energy and a lot of contact time with them to get the proper frequency. It's a lot easier to make them feel sick them make them explode, however.
Ecolocation- He can open his mouth and a hypersonic sound wave travels out before returning back to him, giving him a picture of his environment then sometimes normal vision cannot see.
Equipment
Head: Blue Earphones-These can cancel out noise completely manually or upon detecting unsafe levels of noise, and it can play music from his MP3 player.
Weapons: Two tonfa with steel blades instead of wood.
Bio
He was raised to be an assassin after becoming an orphan, a direct result from a war with el'reizen (monsters), and his job as an assassin was also related to this fact, taking out the el'reizen and the humans who supported/controlled them for their own goal of taking over the world. Even at a young age he was sent out to fight, turning him into a stoic individual who doesn't think twice about taking a life if that's what needs to be done. He had a good female friend, who was also an orphan, who was actually a better fighter then he was. The two worked well together and were often put on the same team. His time as a cross-dresser began around this time. The orphanage was very poor so sometimes they didn't have many clothes to spare. Not being shy at all, Mellow didn't mind trying on the girl clothing, which was actually got him and his friend to interact with for the first time, her telling him how funny he was. He liked the feeling of impressing her and thought she liked it when he wore dresses judging by her smiling and giggling at him. This habit of his was further cemented when he had to cross-dress on certain missions that needed two girls to pull off. It felt so comfortable that he almost never wore boy clothes after this. His friend was eventually captured by el'reizen after the two were separated on a mission, and he's been searching for her ever since.

Rika was lost as soon as everyone started using way too much English. She had bitten off more then she could chew, as it quickly became apparent. She only caught a couple words out of it here and there, and as for herself she had already used up most of the words she could think of the top of her head that could fit in this situation. Her grades were passable, but there was a difference between conversational English and just managing to squeak out passing grades on tests. She was reduced to nodding her head and saying "uh-huh" at the end of their sentences. As they switched back to Japanese she realized that they were discussing going back to the volleyball game. Ah! She almost forgot about that due to all of the delays. She nodded her head in agreement, this time knowing what she was agreeing to for once.
"Yeah. Let's do this!" She said excitedly, taking her position near the middle so that she could do some sets and bumps and whatever. She didn't know for sure all the technical stuff, but she'd watched enough beach volleyball to get the idea of how the game was played. Well, she was watching the players more so then the sport they were doing, but naturally she caught on at least the basic idea of the sport as well. She knew she couldn't handle doing the spiking so would leave that to someone else.
"Eh-...are you all right?!" She shouted as Tohru got slammed in the face as the ball whizzed over her right shoulder. The "attack" had come in far quicker then she could properly react, and in all honesty she had let her guard down when the first two serves had failed. She kneeled down to see if she was okay, but she seemed fired up and was focused intently on the other team. Well, she supposed that she'd be fine. She needed to concentrate on hitting the ball so that wouldn't happen again. She got into position, focusing intently on the ball and the other girls so she wouldn't mess up...although she began to start focusing too much on the other girls in areas not necessary to the game.
"Snap out of it Rika!" She mentally shouted at herself. "Focus on the ball. Don't let it pass you!" She waited for the ball to be put in motion again.
"Yeah. Let's do this!" She said excitedly, taking her position near the middle so that she could do some sets and bumps and whatever. She didn't know for sure all the technical stuff, but she'd watched enough beach volleyball to get the idea of how the game was played. Well, she was watching the players more so then the sport they were doing, but naturally she caught on at least the basic idea of the sport as well. She knew she couldn't handle doing the spiking so would leave that to someone else.
"Eh-...are you all right?!" She shouted as Tohru got slammed in the face as the ball whizzed over her right shoulder.
