Personally I lost interest in FF after 7 -_- and in all honestly I think Square focused way too much on the character customization than the actual game itself. Not a fan of the new combat system either

The combat system is great though! It's like almost an action game!

Isn't FF meant to be a turn-based RPG, though?

Yeah, that's part of the reason I haven't been following the newer games since XII, really. Don't care much for the genre change. : (

It's hard to be turn based when you only play as one person and there's no party and the system is based around accurate guards and switching dresses. The ATB is still there even. FF has always done weird things with their combat systems, and traditional turn based systems are pretty much going away in the JRPG world outside of NIS or Vanillaware titles. FF15 is going for a more action RPG system as well.

FF is still a JRPG, the genre hasn't changed, it's just the settings that change.

The 13 games all have ATB based systems. Lightning Returns just uses the ATB to determine how often and how quickly you can act instead of having to fill up the bar to attack at all.

I'm using turn based in my RPG Maker VX Ace game I'm making...because I have to, but still. ;) If any of you have advise on what you'd like included in my game then let me know and I'll see if I have the know how to add it in. I'm just starting it up so basically have a blank slate to work with, although I do have the general plot in mind, the world map around the starting location, and two main characters.

And who knows, maybe I can make a yuri dating sim game as well that I'm sure you all would enjoy. That would be easier to make as long as I can draw all of the background images and characters, or find good free to use background images.

As for final fantasy's "decline", turn based RPGs can be good, but I don't mind them experimenting with other ways to fight as well. Crisis Core was pretty good and that came after 7...although it's based around the 7 story, but that still counts. X and XII I found enjoyable. Maybe not the greatest games ever, but they were good games. You can tell they put in a lot of effort at the very least. 13 was okay. Good music at least and it did get better later on. I'm stuck in 13-2 finding the things to open the portals and I'm not planning on getting lightning returns any time soon.

I just don't like how they went clothes changing for job classes again <.< and that it's only lightning and it's timed (not as bad now that I know the Ark isn't effected) but still deters me from exploring.
But at least she's not singing randomly in battle. XD

Wondering if any of the characters still involved have piercings of any description, given how likely the dress code is to prohibit it. XD

Singing in battle is a viable RPG tactic.

But do they have to change into a skimpy outfit, get a microphone then dance around like a cute little pop star?

I'm sure I could make a D&D bard that can effectively do that, and use it to their advantage.

Of course! It's obviously to distract your enemy! (Disclaimer: even though a lot of the enemies are monsters anyways and nobody in their right mind would be distracted in battle for that. Don't try this at home)

Human attackers may attack in a different approach while monsters probably won't give a damn xD (except maybe slime... They can do the human thing xD)

But so far, I saw no purpose for it in F f10-2 since it was turn based anyway and monsters would still attack them like anything else :p

It's not so much classes so much as it is customizing clothing with abilities you determine. Just because I just so happen to have my Lightning looking like this:

And I made this into a physical warrior type class (because she's a bodyguard in a snazzy suit and the Buster Sword because I dunno) someone else could go ahead and put their Lightning into something like this:

And be the same type of use as my snazzy suit Lightning. It's not really a JRPG. It's a closet simulator AND I AM GOING TO GET ALL OF THE CLOTHES.

Seriously, I love the game just because I can use a giant sword and chop things in a dress.

Catgirls from FF14? Yep!

You can have Lighting wear a Lightning mask.

This is the kind of dumb I love in Japanese video games.

X-2's job system was pretty much a magical girl thing, though. And magical idols have been a thing in the magical girl genre for a while, so yeah. And the Songstress isn't even a combat class, it's for buffing your allies, so that criticism is kind of... Invalid, really.

...I loved X-2. It was so campy and fun and silly. XD

The only way it would effect me in real life is "Oh good, now she's defenseless! Mwahahahaha!" Although without the evil laughter because war wouldn't be funny.

Did I mention that in Lightning Returns you can wear X-2 Yuna's outfit and Lightning will remark on how she feels like singing and dancing and the X-2 victory fanfare plays?

...That is amazing. XD ...And makes me want to actually pick that up, but I haven't even played XIII so it'd be like one massive spoiler for me.

*shrug* for me I don't care for it. Sure, it's a nice extra, but I don't like that it's a mandatory change. I don't mind doing customs in the second play through, but first play through I like keeping it original to the outfit. Unless the story line purposely goes "oh they need new clothes in this adventure cause theirs got dirty or ripped"

Which is why I love Tales of Xillia :3 plus coop.

I do like FF13, it's just meh for me compared to most of the others. Especially when there is three of them and they could of easily ended it in the first. and that each time starting the other two left me "wtf?"

So I shall enjoy Tales. But I'll play FF13 Lightning returns too
