I think the toughest opponent to fight would be an intelligent, quick fighter in a good suit of armor and magic that can be used for a variety of purposes such as controlling energy to form swords, walls, beams, etc. Even in the armor they'd be just fast enough to give plausible deniability for being able to dodge you and just good enough armor to do the same but for defense and say they didn't receive too much damage, if at all. Their physical strength wouldn't matter much because their energy is their primary attack and can cut through defenses quite well.

My samurai alpaca is far too epic to be used in rank matches, being unfair to my opponents. Looks like I'd have to choose someone else on my growing list.

Fan fact: bullets fall due to gravity at the same rate as if you just dropped it at your side. They just go super far because of how fast they can travel during that time (or if you aimed upwards, of course). By the time you hear the bullet it's more then likely already on the ground. Humans are larger then a lot of animals and are far more numerous then the animals that are of decent size. The bigger animals such as the elephant are all well and good other then the fact that they are not the type that can develop hands, needing to walk on four legs, so they had to fight against a bunch of archers, javelins, and the like and all they could do is try to charge into them. Plus a lot of those species are getting endangered in numbers even before the war started and humans are now encouraged to slaughter any they find, making their population dwindle even worse. Smaller animals like the insects outnumber humans greatly, but each human is like a one man army against them. The grasshopper commander is super talented, but she's a rarity. Most of them get killed on their first mission, crushed under some boot or swatted away before they can get close enough with their tiny weaponry. A couple eagles get sent in and they'll be slaughtered by arrows.

I'll gm but you guys can also actively participate in deciding where the plot will be headed.

How do animals like birds fit in ?

Mostly scouts or eliminating enemy bugs or birds (should we be fighting the bad guy animal army). Hawks and eagles can be in heavier combat. A raven might be able to do either job

Polar bears would be more out of place. Otters can survive on land, right? If we're in the amazon rainforest he could probably go back into the river every now and then anyways.
