Section #1: Jig Being Right

It has come to my attention, that I am primarily right and drunk.

Jig is completely right.

Jig is right.

[11.01.50] Gowi:

Jig is right. Feel free to send that along.

[Jig is] 100% correct.

Jig was right 8 months ago, and is still right.

I love you, Jig. It's because you're Always Right™.

Once again, Jig is absolutely right about this.

Where is Jig when I need to vent about politics?
Drunk.

The mighty Jig is of course right.

Section #2: Jig's RP's

I'm not post-dating RP's I've been in that died out of nowhere and I've basically forgotten about, so here are my present ones.

Current:

Previous:

Wolf Manor (GM)

Wink Murder (GM)

Project Rehab (Player)

The Kidnapping (Player)

Wink murder: Who Killed Mr. Jig? (GM)

Solution; present immediate goal in op.

Again, this is the GM's purview, not the player's.

Brovo said What. I don't think you understood me. Let me try again. You just move forward and say hi along the way. That is all. You write a regular post to move the plot forward and somewhere in there add "oh and by the way my name is Jimmy Junior Senior San Sama." And that is all you need to do.

I understood. The above, I find, is frequently difficult to avoid because-

If the Rp is set up in such a way where it drags out intros otherwise and gives players no options for just moving forward, we have a term for that. Railroading. Choo choo mother!@#$er, you get no choices, you must move at the incredible terrible and entirely inorganic pacing set by the guy or gal running the show, who probably has complete shit tier writing.

- frequently you're bundled on-board the Nowhere Express. This is exactly the thing I'm bitching about and just didn't have the term for it.
Edit for Clarity (where previously there wasn't enough):

When I say 'introduce character', btw, I mean 'Introduce character in the IC to other characters who were previously ignorant of the other's existence'. I'm talking about the setup that can happen in an RP where the characters exist in a vacuum prior to the IC and the whole of the start of the RP is everybody meeting everybody else.

Obviously introducing a character to a reader is a different thing and, yes, a skill that can be developed.

___
I'm not saying there's no way around the challenge of the 'characters all meet for the first time' scene, but prevention is better than cure. When GMing, I try to encourage players to work out pre-existing relationships between their characters before the IC to avoid this problem.

Brovo said You can literally make a depth-filled intro in one paragraph and move on without any problems.

Sure, but once you've waited for a whole round of people to do this, 'moving on' takes a while, and stagnation sets in. You're right that stagnation doesn't spell the death of an RP, but it is in my experience, where an RP dies - especially at the beginning when momentum is lost. Why risk it, if you can avoid it?

Brovo said Resolution: learn proper introductions

On the whole, I think I introduce characters satisfactorily. Unfortunately, I haven't a device that can learn skills onto other people and once you're in the rut of 'everybody take turns to write a big fluffy impressive intro post' with no real practical interaction in the turn-based, huge-group scenario (especially when all characters are introduced to everybody in one sitting - surprisingly common in my experience) because of the GM's management, there isn't a lot of wiggle-room for any one player.

Really, I think GM's are to blame for these as there's lots of ways around the 'lots of strangers' setup but the best really isn't to sit in a big circle and take it in turns to say your name, your dream job, and a secret nobody knows.

If I thought it was my fault, I'd be fixing it in context, not b!tching. xD
New B!tching:

When an RP starts with all the characters completely ignorant of who every other character is where the plot doesn't require this. It means the first page of posts is usually people taking it in turns to introduce their character and generally stagnates things, in my experience.

Nobody likes stagnation.
This is just a link to the main Thread. It is in the Advanced Section, but please don't be scared of this. I am not too demanding a GM so long as you can spell.

Tl;dr - people are going weird. Find out why, and stop them.
Sweet.

I think I'm looking for four or five people for this. Any more for any more?
Demon Empress of Jade said Anyway, is it okay if our characters are slightly creepy themselves? Like if Harold Carter, or someone like Harold Carter, had a daughter and the child saw him eating her mother before he nearly went after her. Such a kid might not be mentally normal after experiencing that. But she wouldn't be one of "them" either.

That is exactly the sort of thing I'd welcome - though I'd be reluctant to accept characters young enough to be 'kids'. I'd call 20 the minimum, and even then I'd like the characters' average age to be higher than that.

Bunnita said depending on how much the bunny has to do some brain breaking researcharizations regarding the stylizanings, culturescapatory, technofabricationatings, rampant nega-isms and like all the good stuffs in early 20thcentury England(?).

Well, I'm naturally going to be making up science and providing appropriate context to the setting an whatnottery, so most basic information would be provided for. Anything else, you can look up or ask about.

Anyway, thank you for the interest - hopefully we'll get a bit more.

It's not bed-time horror stories. Things really do go 'Bump' in the night.

Those things that go 'bump' happen to be zombies or demonic possessions. Ish. A bit. That would be giving away the plot...

What you may know is that, recently, random people have begun to behave, ya know, strangely. Sometimes it's missing people turn up speaking gibberish on the far side of town. Other times, as in the case of the above Harold Carter, perfectly ordinary citizens decide to eat their wife alive. These are crazy days.

Quite exactly how the plot will unfold (ie: where you guys come in) is yet to be worked out, and much of it will be worked out based on any feedback I get here. Suffice to say, Demon-Zombie-Psychos are not your characters' favourite additions to the world recently, and you will be very much on the side trying to get rid of them. One of your allies in this quest is Ms Thorne, as is her macabre friend, Edgar. Quite how closely you will be working with them remains to be seen - again, depending on exactly where I fit the player characters in. This won't be a 'storming around town with an AK-47 shooting anybody that looks like they might like to eat brains' RP - whatever it is that's going 'bump' is elusive and doesn't just sit in the street waiting to be shot.

I intend to GM this from a distance. I won't control any Characters, beyond Ms Thorne and Edgar's contributions (some of which I may ask you lucky people to narrate), but I'll be kicking the plot along behind the scenes. Often, I will give special privileged ones among you a PM with information to incorporate into your posts. Say the plot involves the playable characters storming a warehouse - I will nominate one of you, or ask for a volunteer, to be the one to describe the warehouse will PM that relevant information for their use. Though I will guide the plot gently, I will not force the player characters into any course of action. Instead, I will use NPC's to guide and suggest what I have in-store next. By no means is this an instruction manual and you should feel free to have your characters follow whatever course of action they will.

The RP is going to be set vaguely (as I iron things out, more specifically) in an early 20th-century era.

Hopefully I've given enough to whet some appetites. I'm probably looking for a small cast for this, but I'm genuinely interested to get feedback, hear thoughts and such, so please be forthcoming with any additions (or even subtractions) you might like made.

I don't suppose anybody has any way to try to contact Bliss off-guild?
Optimistically assuming Biggie and Bliss are just waylaid, is everybody else still kicking around?
No worries. :)
