Finn Loughty / Nicole Brenn - Food Court - Nathalie Soltero @wolverbells

Finn kept one eye on Nicole and the other on Nathalie and his ears out for any groans that made their way too close to them as they snuck their way through the eerie mall to the food court. His fingers tightened on his machete as he began to have doubts about coming here. This place was a hub, crawling with walkers and survivors. Finn observed Nathalie as she strolled on ahead of them. He was intrigued by her kindness to them. How trusting she was despite his own distrust. He shook his head, trying to push her out of his thoughts. This was not the time to think about this. A few moments later as they walked on, he almost halted at the sight of the broken chains hanging off the rusty food court doors.

“Don’t worry, these chains were broken by the community after the outbreak. We broke in to get food before the cops came. Keep your eyes open though. Not everyone made it out.”

Finn anchored his attention on her, wondering how she knew all of this. He stepped forward to help her with the door. As they padded in, their quiet footsteps were the only thing heard in the wide, haunting room. It was quiet. A little too quiet for his liking.

“If you want, we can meet back here when we’re done. Good luck, Nathalie.” The corners of his Lincoln green eyes crinkled as he returned her warm smile.

“Call for help if something happens. Please. We don’t want anything to happen to you.” Nicole added in after him with a hopeful smile of her own. She didn’t care if her brother trusted her or not, she had decided she liked Nathalie.

Finn’s penetrating gaze probed their surroundings as he assessed the situation. Where to? They began to search through a couple of fast-food restaurants closest to them and there was nothing. Nada. They had taken everything. A little bit frustrated but not surprised, he caught sight of what seemed like a high-end restaurant to the far right side. Maybe if they went in the back, they would have some stored food in the back in the pantry or freezer.
“Come on, Nic,” he said, motioning for her to follow him. Jumping over the counter, he paused to see if he could hear any walkers. Nothing. He opened the back room door with the tip of his machete. There were rusting appliances and the whole place was crawling with roaches.
“Hey Finn, take a look at this,” he heard Nicole call him from further into the restaurant. Following her voice, he ended up staring at a large walk-in the pantry. The steel door was bolted with what seemed like unpentratable locks. It was obvious that there had been several unsuccessful attempts to break into the pantry. From bullet holes, sharp and heavy dents, it didn’t budge. There it remained, awaiting it’s next opponent.

“It must be loaded with food. Who knows what could be in there?”

“Well, we’re out of bullets and unless you can figure out a way to get in, we can forget about it Finn. If we make one loud bang, we’re dead. Besides, there are other places to search through.”

“And we don’t get food, we’re dead too, Nicole,” he sighed, glancing at his feet before his eyes met hers once more. “Look, those other places here are probably empty and if this our only opportunity to find food in a while, I’m going to try.”

“Okay, let’s try,” Nicole reluctantly gave in with a sigh.

Finn began to run his hands over the edges of the door, trying to find an alternative way other than to hack away at the locks, which he knew was next to impossible. First, he thought of maybe breaking in the pantry through the ceiling. No, he didn’t have the right tools for that. He put his focus back on the door. Perhaps he could find a way to remove the hinges off of it. He dug into his pack and found a couple of screwdrivers he kept with him from his old construction days. With that, he began working at it. He installed doors before. He could disinstall them if he wanted to too. It had passed about ten minutes of him working on it before he realized that Nicole hadn’t said anything up till now. He glanced behind him and noticed she was nowhere in sight.

“Nicole?” he said out loud. Silence. “Damn it. I hate it when she does this.”

Nicole always disappeared to go off to do her own thing in the most inappropriate times. Torn between finishing what he was doing and going after her, he put his screwdrivers down and he glanced at the hinges he had managed to loosen a little. At this rate, this would take at least half an hour. Suddenly getting an idea, he got out his shotgun and held it backwards so that the butt of it was facing forward. He slammed the butt of his shotgun on the hinges as hard as he could. It made a loud bang. At first, it didn’t budge. He continued to launch his gun at the door. He knew the risks of making noise but at this point he didn’t care. The hinges were beginning to fall part. After about five minutes, he managed to break the two hinges off the door. Finn used his machete to pry the door open. It was open! He gingerly moved the door to the side.

After making sure there were no walkers in the pantry, he managed to feel through the shelves. Grinning to himself, he realized he had hit the motherload. The place was loaded with cans, bags of rice and bags of other dry foods he couldn’t identify. But just as he had begun to fill his pack, he began to hear groanings too close for comfort. The loud banging he had produced earlier had reached their ears. He hastily began to stuff his pack with food. He would have to come back. After filling it to the brim, he booked it.

Just as he was about to jump over the counter and back into the food court, there were four walkers coming straight at him. Nicole was nowhere in sight. Dropping his pack and grabbing his machete, he began to distract one of them to the side. He managed to kill it swiftly, but the other three were right on his tail.

“Hey, you!” Nicole shouted from about fifteen yards away. A walker turned around at the sound of her voice and stared at her. “Yeah, you! Over here!” The disgusting creature plodded over to her.

Finn immediately heard her, and cried out for her to stop, knowing what she was doing. Furious, he charged at one of the walkers and kicked it to the dirty floor. He managed to slice its head off and then nimbly plunge his machete into the other one’s head.

Nicole had her knife in her hands as the creature began to inch closer to her. Standing at only 5’2, the walker towered over her menacingly. She noticed her hands were trembling. Come on, Nicole. You can do this. Failing to encourage herself, she began to step backwards, leading it around the food court. The walker’s hands were almost touching her now. She spotted a chair and knew that if she managed to stand on it she would be able to kill it. Before she could attempt her plan, like a flash before her eyes, it’s head fell off its body and it fell on the ground. She moved away just in time so that she didn’t fall under it. Her fearful eyes stared at her brother in surprise.

"Are you alright?" she heard him say, pratically out of breath.

She managed a weak, "Yeah. Thanks."

She observed him go and hoist his much heavier pack on his back and motioned for her to follow him. "Come on. Let's go find Nat," he sighed, running his fingers through his hair. He was exhausted from the limited amount of food and water. The physical exertion he had just done had taken a toll on him. "I managed to open that pantry. She needs some food as well."
Question! Are we gonna have most, if not all, the characters join together to form a sort of group? Or we going to form into sub groups and go our seperate ways? I personally think it would be fun to get everyone into a group eventually but not sure where everyone stands on this.

“California?” Finn tilted his head. “That’s a long way from here.” He wondered how she ended up here but didn’t want to ask. “My sister and I are originally from Texas and haven't been back in who knows how long," he said, with a fast glance at Nicole. "We’re all that’s left from our family. They say it got pretty horrific out west but I don’t know if it’s any easier over here.”

Finn watched her dig into her pack, taking a couple of things out. His rough hands caught the can intended for him by surprise. His eyes went back to her as if asking if she was completely sure she wanted to do this. This seemed like her only food. His stomach suddenly growled as if sensing there was finally food nearby and he knew he couldn’t take it anymore. He met her azure eyes softly and said,
“Thank you.” Two simple words but they held a heavy burden of gratitude that he couldn’t fully express.

Borrowing Nicole’s knife, he swiftly cut into one of the cans and handed it over to Nicole to eat half. After she swallowed up her share, he ate the remaining chili. The food went down his throat and began to fill not even half of his stomach. Yet he was grateful for the small token of trust the young woman had offered to them. He took the other can and wanted to give back to her so that she could at least have something stored away to eat. Guessing that she might be offended at them rejecting her sacrificial gift, he made himself a promise that he would give her half of the food he would find.

Finn ran his fingers through his blonde hair, causing a couple of loose strands to fall in front of his face. “You’re right. We better move. We have to find whatever food is left in this mall and get the hell out. I don't like this place. There is too much commotion.” he said, hoisting himself up. Dusting the dirt off his pants, he fixed his focus on Nathalie. “You probably know this place a little better than us, right? Maybe you could lead the way?” His eyebrow raised as he awaited her answer with expectancy.
Finn Loughty - Gift Shop - Nathalie Soltero @wolverbells

Nicole’s ears pricked at the sound of her brother’s voice talking to someone else. Wait - someone else was here? She followed the sound of their voices and her heart pounding, not knowing what to expect. Upon reaching her destination, her eyes widened at the sight of a young woman, closer to Finn’s age than to hers. She looked like she had just woken up and was nervous to have two strangers show up unexpectedly. Nicole tilted her head and her eyes filled with compassion and could not imagine being in her shoes and going through this alone.

Finn knew he had startled her. His eyes went down to the machete in her hands and knew she wasn’t strong enough to take him on. He had no intention of hurting her unless she posed a threat to their safety. “I’m Finn. Finn Loughty,” he said, a little more relaxed this time around.
She was around his sister’s height. The gift shop was still kind of dark despite the light coming through the windows but as he looked at the contours of her face, he noticed she was pretty. Her long hair reminded him of his girlfriend from a lifetime ago. Finn dared not even think about it anymore, for the thought was too painful to bear. She was gone now.

Nicole offered a small smile, sticking out her hand, despite her brother’s distrusting face. "My name is Nicole. It's nice to meet ya.”

“I don’t want to hurt anyone. I just stopped her to rest.”

Finn somehow believed her. “Not getting much rest now, huh?” He was referring to the gunshots and the bloodcurdling scream that probably reached every walker in the surrounding area.
His gaze went back to her as she asked how they got in. He pointed behind him, towards the back of the shop. “Through the window. We came in here as soon as we heard the commotion outside. This whole mall is going to be crawling with walkers in a few minutes.” he said with frustration.

They had come here for food and now they were stuck in a gift shop until the whole thing blew over. But they couldn’t stay in here. He opened his pack and grabbed the little water they had and sipped a little bit of it. His whole mouth was parched. But despite his craving for more, he bit his tongue and stopped drinking. He handed it to Nicole, to which she shook her head. Nicole wanted to offer it to Nathalie but she knew her brother wouldn’t do it. She knew it took him a little while to trust people.

"Are you here alone?" he said, his eyes traveling back to Nathalie. "Do you have any friends with you? Family?" Nicole eyed her brother. Finn sure had a habit of asking a lot of questions.

Finn knew despite the fact they needed to stay inside, the same urgency for food and essentials cried out. He knew they couldn't stay here very long. He needed to come up with plan, and quick. They hadn't eaten in a day and half and their energy was beginning to burn out. His head was beginning to feel dizzy and he needed to find a place to rest. But, outwardly, he didn't reveal it at all, not daring to appear weak.

“Look, we’re here, Nicole. This was the mall that I was talking about.” Finn promptly turned the ignition off to save as much gas as possible and put the truck on brake.

Gently nudging his sister who managed to fall asleep in the ten minute drive there, he had taken the time to observe their surroundings for any sign of walkers. Parking beneath some trees, Finn practically camouflaged his evergreen truck in the midst of the woods. He didn’t know who would be out there and he didn’t want to show it off just in case someone decided to steal it - which, unfortunately, was a popular course of action around these parts.

“We’re here,” Nicole announced, half-asleep. She saw the abandoned, disgusting buildings and frowned a bit. “Doesn’t look like much. Pretty sure it got looted by now. Let’s just go look for something else.”

“Look, there's not another mall for miles,” he sighed. “Let’s just try, ok?” Finn said patiently, getting out of the car. He slipped his pack on, swinging with his machete and gun and a little bit of water. “Stay close.”

“Yeah, yeah. I know.” Nicole padded after him quietly out into the open. They were hungry. Back at the building that Finn had built in the trees, they had run out of food and bullets. This made it hard for them to hunt and they had looted all the remaining things left in the gas stations closest to them. It was ferociously hot today. She had opted for just a black tank top, shorts and her one pair of boots which was held together by the sheer power of duct tape.

They walked on for a bit and then Finn began to sense something was off. Mind alert and eyes sharp, he shuffled to the side of one the buildings closest to them. He lowered himself and gave Nicole a silent signal to stay quiet. Their eyes met and he knew she sensed something. As if on cue, a horrific scream shrieked out into the quiet and two haunting gunshots followed. Nicole gasped as she covered her mouth.

“Shit.” Finn whispered, flexing his jaw. What were they going to do now? He needed a plan. Those two gunshots were going to call every walker to this place from all directions. They were leaning on the wall of a store, near a window. He glanced at it. Maybe he could pry it open and get in, praying that there were no walkers in there.

The window opened with ease and he went in first, machete in hand. Quiet. No walker signs or sounds. Maybe it was alright. He put his hand out for Nicole to take and she followed in after him. The different knickknacks and pretty things caught her attention as she whispered to her older brother, “Hey, I think this is a gift shop.”

“Great.” He murmured. “Nothing here for us, then.” He added, walking about the store to make sure they were safe. He was almost at the other side of the store when he saw a figure near a window. At first, he thought it was a walker and was about to throw his machete right at its head. But it’s movements were much more gentle and less abrupt and it’s clothes were actually decent compared to those dead things. It was a human being. He hadn't seen one of those besides his sister in a long time.

“Who are you?” He demanded, not realizing how rough his voice was sounding when it came out.

Hello! Are ya’ll still accepting people? I would love to join yall. :)

Here are my two characters:
(Forgive my lack of pictures. I’ve added enough physical descriptions so that your imagination can draw them out of which I think can be a bit more fun in my opinion. :) )

I have read your posting rule and really like it! Never done it before but I think it will be a good thing.

Name: Finneas “Finn” Loughty
Age: 26
Descriptions: Stands tall at 6’2. Wavy blonde hair tied into a bun due to him letting it grow out. Soft green eyes and sunkissed skin. Well-built and is on the muscular side because of his time of working in construction before the outbreak.
Skills:
Building/Construction: Can figure out a way to build anything with the right resources.
Hunting - Still learning after the outbreak. He needed to find a way to eat and had to learn how to kill.
Preferred Weapons:
Machete - discovered lodged into a dead walker’s head and no owner in sight.
Shot gun - used to hunt in Texas when he was younger and he had grabbed out of his father’s room after he had passed.
Saw - A saw he had grabbed from his place when he was escaping with his sister.
Brief Bio:
Finn’s main priority is his younger sister, Nicole, whom he lives to keep alive. Her petiteness, fragility, and probable low immune system is a main concern for him. He built a sort of tree house in the woods, where it’s mostly quiet and not a lot goes down there. He wants to stay as far away from walkers as possible, although he doesn’t allow them to dictate his life.

Name: Nicole Brenn
Age: 17
Description: (Would rather use words than a picture. Might add a picture later.)
Fragile, willowy frame. Pale skin and dark, mysterious eyes. Heart-shaped face dotted with freckles across her nose. She stands at about 5’2 and is very quick on her feet. Skinny, not much meat on her bones.
Skills:
Has a knack for electronics. Her mind is very sharp when it comes to technology. Also has a creative gift for cooking that she began to discover after the outbreak.
Preferred Weapons:
She only has two knives. But she sticks close to her step-brother because he is skilled in striking down walkers and has told her to stay close as much as possible.
Brief Bio:
Originally from Texas, her mother married her step-brother’s father and both of them were lumped together as siblings. Several awkward silences and fights later, they got close over the years, especially since the outbreak happened. She regards him as her own flesh and blood and would give anything for him to stay alive.
Ooh sounds interesting!
Hey guys, I have an announcement. Unfortunately, I’ve decided not to continue with the RP. Main reason is that I wasn’t able to find enough people that were interested enough. Because of that, I don't think the RP would fit the story I had with only four characters. I also believe that it wouldn't be as fun and interesting if we had continued as three roleplayers. I'm sorry and I hope you guys understand.
I want to thank you guys for your interest and being a part of it, even for the very brief time it was alive. :) I really appreciate it.
@Kazemitsu sorry about that :/
