Amaranth's mind, meanwhile, had shifted into damage control. She'd hidden a lot of their more incriminating stuff out of reflex and old habit while she was getting ready, but she'd never matched her skill against someone with the obvious experience and dogged determination of Lauren's family. And somehow, she knew she was going to lose.
If there was any solace in this situation, it was that they weren't looking for her stuff. That was a silver lining that truly had its own dark cloud, since Lauren's stuff was likely more incriminating than hers--that was something of an odd situation for her to be in, to be sure--but at least they likely wouldn't be any more suspicious of her than they already were for wearing Lauren's jacket. Sangue's movement caught her a little off-guard, but a soft smile spread across Amy's face as she watched Sangue's hand go up to join the ruffling party.
Her attention turned to Ben, looking her captain over with a slightly more wicked smile than the one she'd regarded Sangue with.
He's enjoying this too much.
You should probably break his balls, her shoulder devil said.
Weird. The shoulder devil looked more like a certain teammate of hers than she was comfortable admitting.
"Oh, c'mon Ben. Some of that stuff might be yours. You're the one who went to the bar with her last weekend."
