Antoinette watched the emotions cross Neil's face. Relief, realization, and then shame. It was present when he spoke. She touched his shoulder gently, hoping to empathize with him.
"If I learned anything about that other reality we fell into, it's that anything is possible. Always trust your gut. It'll keep you safe," she added.
Finally, they ran into another group. Antoinette smiled, motioning to wave at Carolina but she quickly disappeared. Taking a couple minutes to catch her breath, she looked around at the others in the group. They were heading to the explosion. Antoinette had quite the stamina for running, so she didn't mind that they were on the move again. She was sure the others would like longer of a rest, but the space station was pretty chaotic at the moment.

Ezekiel ate slowly, watching Nancy and the untouched bowl of food. He was very worried about her, and there was absolutely nothing to do for her. Ezekiel couldn’t heal the mind. He hated his limitations at that moment. He hated seeing her in pain. Nancy was trying to put on a brave face, but Ezekiel knew Nancy. They had been together for a long time now. He was sure there were things she picked up about him that he didn’t think about.
Ezekiel went to take another bite of his French Toast when it suddenly disappeared. ”Hey! Joanie!!” Ezekiel pouted for a minute. He reached over to the fruit bowl and ate a piece of melon. He sighed as it didn’t hit the same as the French Toast covered in syrup and icing sugar. That was medicine. He smiled at Joanie with Nancy. At least someone got to enjoy their last meal.
Ezekiel groaned at the mention of Demetri. ”Ya… I dunno. Our last conversation wasn’t the greatest. I mean, I miss him, but…ya.” Ezekiel stood and gathered his things into his bag. He moved quickly, noting Nancy’s nervous pacing. He shouldered his pack and looked at the cat.

So, apparently, figuring out the wishes needed to ask the Genie to survive this mission was less important than gaining up on the wonder twins, who were late to the party. Cassiopeia rolled her eyes at Rose and crossed her arms. Guess they would just wing it since Cass had no idea what they would need to ask. Layla brought up weapons, and Eric had the answers. Cassiopeia grinned and sat up.
”That sounds more fun. Let’s get stocked up. I need more arrows for sure.” Cassiopeia also required new throwing knives and maybe a few daggers. Cass was much better with long-range weaponry, but if she was going to be on the stealth team, she needed something for close-range attacks.

Willow frowned when Colby and Matthew started to receive poor character reviews. She understood maybe the need to split the groups up more, but she disagreed with the statement that they were the last people who should be in that group.
”Actually, when we were in Agrabah, they snuck into the vault and stole the lamp for us with their fathers. They are pretty good at stealth. They were even going undetected with Jafar and Rumpelstiltskin in the room.” Sure, they had screwed up with the skeleton things and got them all nearly killed, but they were doing better. All of them were doing better.

Kanien'keha:ka have a legend about a creature made after a violent death: Kanontsistóntie’s or Flying Head. Annika stared down at the severed head of the demon, looking for flaming eyes, tangled hair, and an enlarged head. This had no such thing. However, it was requesting to be reunited with its body. Annika growled at the thing before placing clawed hands on either side of the head and pulled. As Annika ripped, the eyes of the demon rolled, seemingly trying to watch its further destruction. Sinew and tendons strained until they inevitably snapped. The eyes continued to roll around, and the creature made sounds like it was still alive. Roaring in frustration, Annika swivelled to throw each half of the head as far away from the other.

On top of an untamed amount of rage, the werewolf Annika currently was, had an incredible arm. She threw each half of the head so far that she didn’t even see where they had landed. With that minor complaint dealt with, Annika returned her focus to the headless body. Huffing once, she raced forward, pushed off the ground with her powerful legs and pounced on the headless demon. She tore into it quickly, years of built-up anger pouring out of her as she shredded the creature to bits.

Savage. She remembered the first time she had been called such a thing. She had been by the river, digging for important medicinal plants for Grandmother, and returned to the camp, covered with mud. A huge smile adorned her face as she carried the basket proudly full of the plants she needed to collect. In the other hand, she carried a large toad. A new friend she was talking to in a mix of strange croaks, Mohawk, and English. Her father was there with a few English companions who sneered at her, stepping back with disgust and uttering the vial term. Her father defended her, but it did nothing to change those men’s opinions. It did nothing to stop the war on her people.

I’ll show them savage, Annika thought as she finished tearing her prey apart. She looked behind her, her body heaving from the effort it took to end her assailant and the blood rage that filled her. Eyes adjusted on the other humans, landing on the new person. Annika’s head cocked to the side like a dog would. It was unnerving to see a werewolf exhibit the same behaviour.

Running was working. It was getting them closer to the hanger and when Mira spoke, closer to the source of the explosion. The only downside would be them having to run through the hangar to get to the explosion. There was the very real possibility that their friends were at risk and needed saving. On the other hand, if they didn’t have a way out, none of them would be saved. Then Neil spoke.
Antoinette stopped dead in her tracks and turned to face Neil. ”What do you mean Lance is… No, are you sure?” Mira had already asked, but Antoinette had to ask herself. Lance wasn’t invincible necessary, but he was pretty darn close, what with having gamma rays running through him.
No. Lance couldn’t be dead. Antoinette squeezed her hands shut, and her blue eye started to sparkle as she searched her soul and Lance’s to ensure he was still alive. A wave of comfort and peace surrounded Antoinette. She looked at Neil, concerned now for him.
”Lance is still alive. Our Lance is, maybe it’s another world’s Lance.” Antoinette looked at the others. Of course, intuition wasn’t a science, but Antoinette was confident in her feelings. ”Let’s just go. We won’t know unless we keep going,” she said and continued towards the hanger and the source of the explosion.

Cassiopeia listened to Merlin explain the plan to them. Of course, Cass would go with her father and his men. She was good at sneaking around and figured her skills could be of best use there. She looked at Layla and nodded in agreement with her sister. They needed to have a wish plan.
”I agree. We need to figure out something concrete to ask. Something that ensures we can get in without being detected have the upper hand, and release the Genie.” She remembered Aladdin’s three wishes, but they didn’t need to look like royalty. They may need to be saved, but only time will tell.

Willow started to eat to keep from embarrassing herself further. She listened to the two descriptions of the groups and made the decision. Although it made her nervous, she knew she made a great distraction. She had already helped her mother in that department, and even though Willow had never used her kickboxing training in a real fight, she did have the skills.
Everyone started talking amongst themselves, splitting into groups, and Willow looked at her mom. However, Sierra spoke to her first. Willow cleared her throat before replying.
”I think I’ll go with the distraction group. I already did that with my mom, and we were pretty good at it.”

As he showered, Ezekiel could hear scratching on the door, followed by dragon-like sounds. He had quickly learned the different sounds of Sunshine and Joanie. ”Joanie, I’m in the shower. Give me a minute,” he called out. He showered and dressed in some new clothes quickly.
Ezekiel had split the money with Nancy and went off to get a couple new shirts, a pair of pants and shorts. It felt terrific to own new clothes. It had been years since Zeke had bought something new. He was used to wearing camp attire. Clean and dressed to take on the day, Ezekiel opened the door and smiled.
”Morning Joanie,” he greeted before retreating to eat his breakfast. He glanced over at Nancy, pushing the fruit bowl towards her silently. Nancy had barely eaten since they got to the hotel, and he was rather worried. His powers could only heal so much.
”We’ll need our strength… Thanks for ordering breakfast.” Zeke didn’t really know how to handle this matter or Nancy. To the best of Zeke’s knowledge, Nancy didn’t need handling, or rather, want handling.
He dunked his french toast in syrup and ate a few bites before clearing his throat. ’The train should be arriving soon. When should we leave?”

Annika watched her flying friends attack the demons in furor. They divided and conquered, but it wasn’t enough. They continued to do battle with the others despite the plague, fire, and lightning. This battle was nothing like she had seen before. Humans had a sense of self-preservation. They would retreat if they felt the battle was shifting away from a victory. There was no retreating here.

Annika took a step back, meaning to regroup, but instead, she felt a sudden sharp incision in her side, followed by an intense burning that she knew all too well. Annika gasped, losing focus on the insects as she stumbled forward and landed on her knees. Her hands fluttered to the source of her pain, trying vainly to heal herself. She pulled her hands away to reveal crimson. She sucked in air and looked behind her to find a demon with knives for hands.

A wave of pain overtook her, and she groaned. Annika covered her wound again and squeezed her eyes shut. Was that fur? Annika opened her eyes, groping her body for confirmation. Yes, as she felt the fur slowly spreading, an intimate warmth spread through her body. The beginnings of her shifting always felt like a summer breeze. Only this time, she felt buzzing, coupled with a metallic taste on her tongue.

There is no time for retreat.

Annika grabbed onto the familiar sensation and forced the change through her body, strange new phenomena be damned. She needed a body that could handle the stab wound and be able to help her friends. Shifting happened quickly for Annika, usually with minimal pain. After the change, a wave of relief flooded Annika’s system, followed by a sudden need for blood. The respite was due to another man healing her stab wound. Where had he come from?

Annika had no time to assess this stranger. A new urgency gripped her body. She felt off, and it wasn’t due to blood lust. When she shifted during battle, whatever predatory animal she chose would amplify her blood lust. This time, however, Annika saw something strange when she glanced down.

She had giant claw-like hands and feet, but they were animal in nature. Fur covered her from head to toe; however, it was minimal along her torso and chest. Her nose told her what the red planet tasted like and that it was saturated with blood. The demons around her smelled horrible. Her eyes adjusted to seeing things in various shades of grey, and the screaming of the demons in her new ears was deafening. Annika released an ungodly roar due to anger and annoyance.

That was new.

She ran her tongue along her teeth, feeling long, sharp canines, which indicated she was a carnivore. The urge for blood was indication enough of that, but the teeth and shape of her limbs suggested wolf, but that wasn’t quite right either. Whatever she was, there was still the threat of demons around them. Annika turned her predatory eyes on the creatures and ran at them. Her body hunched forward while powerful legs propelled her towards her goal, and her clawed hands pounded against the ground to eat up the miles.

The demons grew irritated as their prey evaded them. The tall, feline-looking woman waved her hand and lightning shot down from the sky. Annika’s eyes widened with wonder as she watched the strikes hit their mark. She had never seen such raw power before. Enthralled with the scene before her, she had forgotten about the man. When he touched her shoulder, she jumped, looking at him with concern until she felt a strange warmth surround her shoulder as it began to heal.

Her arm tingled as he worked, feeling the pain soothe momentarily, and then it stopped. Annika looked at her shoulder and then back at Edus. Was something wrong?

Annika rotated her shoulder, feeling the tendons snap and bubble over the joint. She shifted the cloak and saw the wound was healed, but there was still pain. Well, pain Annika could deal with. She smiled at Ed and nodded her thanks before turning her attention up.

The fireballs continued to rain down, but they weren't hit, nor was the ground around them. An invisible covering shrouded them for the time being until the wise woman drew more fire. Annika instinctively covered her head, dodging what she could until the demons descended. They came at her, tearing at her cloak.

She grunted as she tugged back, trying to help the cloak free itself when she thought of an idea. It wasn’t a sure thing, as Annika had yet to Commune With Nature in this land, but if the land had large pests, perhaps they had small ones. Annika stopped pulling on the cloak and shut her eyes. She shifted her feet, feeling the strange ground underneath her, and she called out in her mind. Within moments, Annika could hear buzzing. She opened her eyes and saw a dark mass headed for them.

”Cover your heads!” she yelled to her group. Annika, however, watched the locus as they came into view and swarmed the demons. The angry insects swarmed the devils, biting and attacking every inch of them. They also went after the group, but their cloaks' thick protection kept them from being bitten. Annika smiled as she watched nature take its course.

The first thing Ezekiel did when they got to the hotel was order a fuck ton of room service and then took the longest shower of his life. Daddy’s bill, right? After that, he sat in the fluffy robe with slippers to match and ate. And ate. And ate. He fell asleep feeling like crap, but he had a smile on his face. The next day, he was less indulgent.
Room service was still ordered, of course, but Ezekiel managed to get himself into the pool for a few laps and some exercise. In the evening, he walked around Vegas but kept the hotel in sight. Thankfully, nothing evil lurked in the corners, and he was free to roam.
He had never been in such a lively city before. There was so much life and colour here. And the lights at night were mesmerising.
Before Ezekiel retired on the second night, he located the train station where the rest of the group would arrive. His fingers drummed a beat on his leg nervously as he looked for Demi’s train. At this point, he didn’t even know if Demi wanted to be with him anymore. Ezekiel had put him through enough grief. There should be trials and tribulations of demi-god love featuring Aphrodite and her meddling ways.
Ezekiel returned to the hotel to tell Nancy when the train was coming in and if she wanted to form some game plan. Since arriving, they had hardly talked about the car ride with Apollo or the Lotus Hotel. He didn’t want to push Nancy, but they were nearing the final hour.

On the morning of the third day, Ezekiel rose slowly. He reached out and scratched his new friend under the chin and along the ears before patting its rump and stood to stretch and shower. ”Hey Nanc, if you’re awake, could you order me some french toast?” he asked before he disappeared into the bathroom.
