The primal urge to obsessively access your uni portal to see if your classes have been released, so you can read the syllabi thirty-seven times before class next week.

Hope. Hope for a new world, a new order. When her home was first invaded, hope was common among her people. Hope, that the White Men would spare Annika and her people. Hope that the foreigners would work with the world's caretakers and aid them. And then that hope shifted to just making it through the night. Hope that their elders would survive the new diseases brought to their lands.

Carolina came over and spoke of a vision she had. Annika removed her eyes from the box to look at Carolina. Seers were revered among Annika’s people. If this box contained the very essence of Hope, the thing Ananym was attempting to take from them, they had to try, right?

Carolina left, taking the scroll with her to save some of the others. Annika picked up the box. Even if it consumed her, she had to try. What if this Hope reached through time and helped her people?

Annika stepped back out into the chaos of New York City. She looked up at the sky, seeing Jax struggle. The imps closed in on Wong until Carolina saved him. The pentagram seemed to fade, although Ananym attacked Madalyne, unrelenting in her need to destroy the world. Although this was not Annika’s world, it shouldn’t be destroyed. Although this world was not full of nature, wind, and peace, it was her friend’s world. Annika walked calmly towards Ananym — her purpose clear — and opened the box.

A blinding light enveloped the world Annika knew. It burned, but it also felt comforting, like the Creator had picked her up himself and began to burn away all the imperfections and all the pain she had known in the last few years. It was a release. Even as hope faded from Annika’s mind, she knew her mission was being accomplished. Ananym was fading just as Annika was until the two no longer existed as they once were.

The box Annika had been holding dropped to the ground and shut. As the light faded, two babes were revealed — the embodiment of hope and a new generation to fight for.

Ezekiel shifted closer to stand next to Demetri. His arm brushed against his boyfriends before his fingers twitched to link with Demetri’s. Ezekiel liked the idea Janelle had, more than Nancy wanting to put Leandra on trial again. Truthfully, he didn’t see the point in that. At the moment, they had bigger things to deal with. And right on cue, the Doors of Death opened once more. The King of Giants marched out like he owned the world. Ezekiel took one step to block Demetri with his body. It was time for the title fight.
Ezekiel stumbled back, pushing Demetri further out of the way as Alexios was tackled by the giant. Zeke turned his attention to the doors and then looked at Nancy. Ezekiel wasn’t sure if they needed the giant killed before they entered or if it was now a free-for-all.

People continued to trickle onto the Blackbird. Antoinette helped everyone up the ramp, telling those who were well to give up seats for the injured. Finally, Pietro returned with Mary, Jacelyn, and a couple of others. Antoinette smiled as warmly as she could and helped those few people in before she joined her fellow X-Men on board.
There were still 45 people out there. Antoinette turned her head to look down the ramp to the crumbling hangar. She remembered the building collapse all those years ago when she had been rescued. Not everyone made it out of that one, either. This was part of the job that was never easy.
Max walked past her, standing close to the ramp to keep a weathered eye for more people. Antoinette walked back to stand beside him. Her powers weren’t equipped to help in this sort of scenario. It was one thing to feel helpless in that sense, but another to have the powers do something and still not be able to save them all. Antoinette reached out and took Max’s hand. She gently squeezed it but kept looking down the ramp, hoping for more people to join them.

The door shut tightly behind Annika, and she leaned against it for a moment. Sound from outside was temporarily blocked, providing Annika with a reprieve. When she got sucked into Limbo, dealing with the end of the world was the farthest thing from her mind. Things shifted rapidly after Ananym’s reveal. Part of Annika still wanted to reach out to Ananym. To talk about what pushed her to this point, to wanting this end.

Crying babies entered her mental discussion. Annika opened her eyes, followed the sound, and found Zelma dealing with the babies as best she could. Right. Annika pushed away from the door and stalked through the Sanctum. The power vibrated across her body, making her skin crawl. She walked forward, looking at the strange artefacts, hoping her intuition would pull her towards something. Her attention shifted to a box sitting by itself, isolated from the other items in the room. She walked a few more steps away from the box before stopping, pivoting, and returning to the box.

Annika stepped up to the pedestal. Her hands hovered over the jeweled box, tracing the air around it until letters revealed themselves to her. She lightly traced her finger over the foreign letters. Annika felt an unbelievable draw to the item, but she had a healthy adverse for it as well. It felt familiar, like kin. Human.

”Zelma,” she found herself calling out. ”Do you know what is inside this box?”

Ezekiel peppered the Cyclops with arrows, watching it stagger back until the killing blow turned it to dust. Ezekiel coughed as he was covered in monster dust. ”Gross,” he complained. Ezekiel looked around, ensuring the space was clear of other monsters before picking up the Cyclops’ club. It was rather hefty. Zeke doubted he could use the thing effectively, but it was fun to hold on to for the time being.
Leandra’s screaming caught his attention, and Ezekiel grimaced as he saw blood pour from her severed tongue. Ezekiel could kill when needed, but the sight of blood bothered him. His fingers twitched at his side, wanting to heal Leandra and save her from her pain. To distract himself, Ezekiel shifted his focus to Demetri. He tried to lock eyes with the snake and get a feel for his boyfriend's feelings. While Zeke’s eyes focused on Demetri, his other senses remained alert for other monsters and Nancy’s voice.

Annika watched Jack age himself to save the babies and break the pentagram. Her attention became torn when Runa spoke up once more. They presented them with a horn, declaring that if one of them could drink the contents, they would give them the portion of Stephen Strange’s soul they held. Prudence took the horn and attempted to drink from it; however, she could not drain it of its contents. Annika was unfamiliar with the story and hoped Klara would fill them in. Annika looked back at Jack. Max. Max and Jack. Jax.

Annika fingered her necklace as she battled with herself. A shift in the wind brought a sense of peace to Annika. For a brief moment, Annika could smell the trees, the ocean, and safety. Of course. Annika smiled.

“Niá:wen, mother.” Annika walked away from her group and held her arms out to greet the wind like an old friend. She shut her eyes, letting her ancestral power surround her as she communed with nature.

Visions filled her head. She smelled the salt from the Atlantic Ocean, tasted blood as it coated her tongue, and felt the tingle of raw power slide up her arms. Annika opened her eyes; a brief crackle of electricity filled them before she dropped her arms and stumbled back.

She looked up at Jax and worried about her bottom lip. They were trying to use themselves as the power source, and it was killing them. They needed something as strong and pure as the babies. Or they needed to kill the babies. The good of the many over the few, but also, the future vs the past. Annika shook her head, not ready to make that decision and turned to look back at Runa.

”The ocean. More specifically, it is the one that lies to the east of us. You want us to drain the sea.” There was no way.

Annika looked past them into the Sanctum. It contained some of the most powerful items of magic known to man. There was something in there. Annika could feel it. She pushed past the others, back inside and started her search.

Antoinette checked on Arnold while she caught her breath. The Tribble seemed to be shaking more than usual, well aware of the situation around them. She rubbed his head gently with her knuckle. ”Hang in there, Arnold.” Antoinette looked up when Pietro and some other mutants arrived. Antoinette decided to hang back and help some of those struggling up the ramp.
A portal nearby started to flicker, the hallway behind it shuttering with a new round of explosions. Antoinette swallowed, watching it as gears turned in her head. Pietro raced off once more, and Bethany climbed into the Blackbird, leaving Antoinette to usher any other people up the ramp. She hoped the Blackbird would be able to take off with all these people.

Jack’s words rattled around in Annika’s head. Runa’s voice drifted in and out of the din while Annika tried to make sense of it all. The world was in trouble and was very clearly falling apart, but was Runa’s prophecy correct? Or was Jack’s determination the only course of action?

Annika’s heart tumbled over as she tried to listen to her ancestors. Fate was one thing, but the gift Annika had been given was not for nothing. The ancestors knew of the war the White Man was bringing to their doorstep and so sent gifts to Annika and others like her to help turn the tide and protect their people. Then Annika was taken from that and sent to Limbo, sent to this place in the future to what, watch it crumble? Or prevent the world from slipping away?

This new land was strange, with foreign sounds and smells and very little plant life. Perhaps the White Man had won and turned her homeland into the cold and friendless world it was now. Perhaps this was always how it was meant to be. Did that mean this place was worth saving, or did her ancestors want Annika to help make it fall?

Annika turned her head and watched Jack retreat outside. She stepped back and found herself standing next to Runa and Klara. This place wasn’t her home. Not anymore.

Ezekiel felt for his boyfriend after Demetri screamed and shifted to try and stop Leandra, but also get everyone to get along. Unfortunately, the lure of power always beats out friendships. Besides, friendship didn’t mean much to the gods. They were a jealous bunch, and one always demanded to be above the other.
Ezekiel didn’t get time to try, and talk to Demetri or help Nancy. He saw something flash and turned his head in time for a Cyclops to knock him down, then hit his torso with a club. Ezekiel grunted from the force and winced. The familiar feeling of broken ribs greeted him. Ezekiel rolled to his side, ignoring the blinding flash of pain from sudden movements. He strung an arrow and pulled back on his bow, aiming an arrow for the Cyclops eye and released.
