The kiss ends far too soon, but I know there are other matters to attend to. I chuckle at Nero’s comment and release my hold on them. ”I am fine. I’ve taken far worse hits,” I assure them. I bend down and pick up the dropped dagger.

”We should go before Cassi comes marching back in here,” I say and start making my way to the exit.

While I wait for the other two, I examine Mr. Wu closely, who thankfully lets me. I think he is in shock, so I just keep talking and explaining what I am doing while I look him over. He has no life-threatening wounds but he is scraped up here and there. I reach into my pack and grip the rose petals. They wilt as I draw on their energy to heal the scrapes and bruises on Mr. Wu.

Caden finally emerges from the abandoned building, and I sigh. ”You’re safe no, Mr. Wu. I’ll take you to your son. He won’t wake until morning; he’s in a rather deep sleep, but he’ll be so relieved to see you in the morning.”

I let Nero ramble and talk themselves down after the fight. Even though I had been in many, many fights, it still took me time to come down from the high of it all. This was no different. I step closer to him, my eyes shifting to my regular blue-green shimmer. Cassi had left, getting Mr. Wu into the SUV, so I had a minute.

Nero looks down at the ground where the Chimera disappeared and berated himself for killing the Chimera. At this point, I don’t care what Crowley wanted. I only care what I want.

I lift my hand and push Nero’s white-blonde hair back, knotting my fingers into their hair, and tilt their head up to look at me. I look between their different coloured eyes, thinking of something to say, but nothing is forthcoming. I smile instead before I lean in and kiss them fully on the lips.

Nero catches the dagger smoothly, but with my eyes enhanced to notice more, I do see the slight slowness of the dagger for them to catch it smoothly. I meet Nero’s eyes after and nod. They charge the beast, and I come up on the other side of it. I flourish my sword and pierce the animals' hide smoothly. Celestial bronze is the only weapon that can kill the gods or creatures of them, and even though this is a hybrid creature, it seems to do the trick.

The creature howls in pain from the duel stab wounds. It quickly turns to ash and fades away. I sheath the sword and look at where the creature used to be, where Nero now stands. Hopefully, the creature did die and didn’t reappear in hell.

As soon as Nero has the dagger, I turn and continue to help Mr. Wu leave the building and into the SUV. The sound of the Chimera’s death wail reaches us, but I don’t stop. I get Mr. Wu into the back of the SUV and start looking him over to make sure there are no life-threatening injuries.

I appreciated Nero helping, but I also hated it because it made me have to split my focus between the Chimera and now them to make sure they were okay. Nero started panicking when his magic quit working. His panic didn’t help my resolve.

The Chimera reached out and slashed out at me. I managed to miss getting cut, but I got the back end of it and was thrown back. I hit a pillar and fell to the ground. I coughed and shook my head to regain my focus. I looked up to see the Chimera split its focus as well. Nero was locked in its sight, and I narrowed my eyes before I stood.

”Cassi! Fight fire with fire!”

I managed to get Nic’s dad away from immediate danger. ”It’s okay, Mr. Wu, I’ve got you.” I heard my name, and my head snapped up. Fight fire with fire! I groaned. Now? I looked down at Mr. Wu. ”Just one moment, Mr Wu,” I said and stepped away from him.

I reached into my bag and pulled out a firestone. I cupped it in my left hand, chanting until a fireball appeared in my right hand. I took aim at the Chimera’s back and threw the ball of fire at the creature. It roared out in annoyance more than pain. It must be fireproof. It looked at me and Mr. Wu, growing frustrated.

I pulled the dagger Caden gave me out of my thigh holster and held it out. The creature watched my hand growling. ”Nero… You better have quick hands,” I say. I flip the dagger before throwing it at Nero. As soon as the dagger leaves my hands, I conjure another ball of fire. The Chimera is busy tracking the dagger I threw so it doesn’t see me throw the second fireball at its throat. It pulls the focus from Nero and the dagger and puts it back on me, but now Caden and Nero are free to flank the creature and stab it.

My eyes shift to that of an Eagles so I can see everything clearly. Even from this distance I can see the fear on Mr. Wu's face, not to mention the smell of fear. The creature looks ready to devour him until Nero intervenes. My eyes flick to see theirs turn white. That's…new. I decide to keep that information to myself. If I told Cassiopeia she would flip.

As soon as the Chimera is down I step onto the railing. I pay Nero's shoulder.

”Hervorragende Arbeit, kleiner Kobold.” I jump from the railing and land on my feet seconds later, no harm done.

Cassi dashes for the human while I look over the Chimera. I reach out and touch it, officially adding the creature to my roster. However, it stirs as soon as I touch it.

”Cassi, get them out of here.” My voice is steady but it does drop as I draw my sword and point it at the Chimera. I dodge as it screams fire and I swipe out at it. I knick the animal’s hide but I don't do enough damage to put it down. Let the games begin.

We make quick work of getting inside and scanning the area. Nero seems rather nervous and hesitant, but I try not to let that concern me. I watch them when they look at us, concern in their own eyes, and I wink at them. I split off from Cassi and flanked Nero’s left side, sticking to the shadows as I followed them. The closer I can get to the Chimera, the easier it’ll be for me to kill it.

While Caden works with Nero, I go the other way, looking for the human but keeping an eye out for the Chimera and if the other two need my help. A giant roar fills the abandoned building. The walkway rattles, and some birds fly off out of the rafters. I swallow and peer over the edge, seeing the Chimera stalking forward towards the human. They don’t look to be doing too well. The Chimera breathes a wall of flames, but they don’t touch the human... yet.

We both turn to look at Nero. I’m impressed, but Cassi looks like she’s trying not to laugh again.

”How, by talking to it?”

”Cass… If you want to give it a go, Nero. Cassi and I will back you up. I have a blade that will finish the creature off.” I turn back towards the SUV and open up the back. I push a button on the side, and rows of weapons slide out. I open the bottom compartment to reveal an odd assortment of weapons, containers, books, and even a few spell bags. It’s our hunters' cache—another reason for taking the SUV rather than the car.

I look at the drawers and pull out a dagger and a sword. Both blades were golden, as they were used for killing mythological creatures specifically. I had the dagger to Cassi but strapped the sword to my waist. I close everything up once more, looking at Nero. ”Ready?”

Thankfully, the Chimera doesn’t seem to be moving, and we locate the building quickly. The three of us get out of the SUV and stare up at the building. I finally pull my hair back and tie it up.

”So, what’s the plan? Go in on offensive or use Caden as bait and sneak up on the thing?”

I stare at the building, up and down the street, then back at the building. I slip my hands into my pockets. ”I don’t remember ever coming across a two-headed dog. Using me as bait in that scenario would be difficult. If I get close enough to touch the Chimera once, I could turn into one of them.”
Cassiopeia shakes her head.

”That won’t work. Chimera are very territorial. They will attack you rather than be subdued.”

I looked in the rearview mirror and saw Cassi roll her eyes before looking out the window again. I had been resisting touching Nero since they got into the car, but I couldn’t resist any longer. I reached out with my right hand and rested it on his knee. My thumb rubbed the side of their knee in light circles for a moment before I pulled it back.

”Alright, Cass, we’re about a couple blocks away now. Time for you to try tracking the thing.” I said. Cassiopeia glanced back at me and nodded. She took the hex bag out along with her jar of dirt and a handful of crystals. I watched her for a moment before observing our surroundings.

I set everything on the seat beside me and held the spell bag in my hand while I used the elements of earth to channel the spell. ”Vitto Brosche Tarem Car Manifesto Fen.” I chanted in Latin until the spell took. My eyes rolled back into my head as the vision took hold, and I fell silent as I was bombarded with images. Once I had seen everything, I gasped, and the visions stopped. I kept hold of the spell bag. As long as I was holding it, I would get a new vision if the creature moved.

”Two more blocks, then turn left. Past three buildings and then right into an ally.” I fiddled with my hair, unable to put it up while I held the hex bag. I saw the Chimera clearly, and I was not looking forward to facing it.

I frown a little at this different display of emotion from Nero. If you can call it emotion, it certainly is a display. I cross my arms and look back out the window.

”No. That doesn't surprise me at all about Crowley, which is why I don't understand why you are being different. Either it's because you want us to do the job for you, so you can get paid or you really don't give a damn about Crowley and hell which only gives me more questions,” I confess.
