@Crab... see if you can find out what she's interested in. Then ask her about it. No flirting need be involved to just break the ice. :)

Bio

Long time casual role player who loves tales of adventure! I enjoy tabletop games, play-by-post, and even LARP!

Wild (and sometimes weird) west and medieval fantasy games with an 'old-school' D&D feel are my favorite.

In real life, I'm a software engineer and wanna-be farmer. I have a little garden and some chickens that like to destroy my flower beds. But I like 'em anyway and they all have names. ;) Sometimes they lay me some breakfast.

Other hobbies include dog agility and archery.

The bound human ceased him attempts at freeing himself from the bonds and forced his gaze to focus on the old, one-eyed orc that had entered the tent.

Jacob felt his heart race increase as the orc exchanged the staff for the knife, so much so that he barely caught the words the old creature spoke. [i]"Killing him would be uncalled for ..."[i] The human forced himself to calm down as those words sunk in. Perhaps this orc was slightly less vicious than the ones that had burned his face with the stick from the fire pit. Of course, it was probably more likely that this orc meant that the messenger was to be further tortured for the entertainment of the foul creatures until he finally died.

The thought made the pit in his stomach tighten. "Could cut these bonds," he voice sounded dry and raspy, but he managed to get the words out, "and grant me a blade." Not that he expected the orc to do any such thing.
Sorry, just haven't been able to do much more than check on the site the last couple days. Packing and prepping for moving next week. :-) I'll try to make some time for a post soon!

I like what you did with hinting that the shopkeep was looking for the map. :)

"None taken," Straw replied, eyes scanning the forest in front of them, as if he were looking for something. "I've dug around more than a few in my day. Guess they do tend to look the same after awhile."

Althea nodded her agreement, glancing back at Zed. At his warning, she pulled an arrow from her quiver and knocked it loosely to her bow. She'd only traveled with this group for a little under a week, but was already beginning to feel a bond with them. At least with the Estella and Zed. Straw had been a little distant, but Althea chalked that up him simply being older. "Ever find anything interesting in them?" she asked Zed. The only ruins she had ever seen had been close to civilization, so any treasures they might have contained were long gone.

It was not long until the first site of the ruins came into view. Something that might have been a smile played at Straw's mouth. "Looks like the map was right."

Thanks for the reminder. I tried this RP once a few years ago as a group RP and it lasted for a good long while before croaking. I had forgotten that I tried it as a 1x1 right before the site crashed!

I had totally forgotten that you joined this as a group RP back on the old site! :) Keeping his name Straw is fine with me.
Glenn gave Dotta a somewhat awkward hug, then hurried after Roan, catching up quickly.

The small town did not have many options, so Glenn answered without having to think too hard. "Winston Crowder sells stuff to travellers that pass through. Sometimes Dotta trades him cow's milk if she needs cloth or a tool or something. You think he'd have all the stuff we'll need to get the treasure?"

Thinking harder, he remembered Winston had been at Calhoun's home earlier, picking through the old man's items along with half the villagers. It probably wouldn't be surprising if quite a few of old Calhoun's items made their way into Winston's little shop.
As the trees and undergrowth shifted to conceal those at the top of the hill, the orcs mounted on wargs ran past, following the trail back toward the location of the assault on the human rider the night before. None seemed to notice those concealed there.

--

Jacob felt himself waking again, his body a mass of aches and pains. Coarse rope bit into his wrists, which had been bound tightly behind his back. Slowly, he rolled himself over, half expecting the orcs to grant him another beating for his efforts. But none came. It took a moment for his eyes to focus, but he looked around the tent. It seemed deserted of the foul creatures for the moment, but their evidence lay everywhere; crude weapons scattered on the floor, tattered furs, bones, and some unidentifiable greenish substance that Jacob took to be leftovers of dinner. The smell made his stomach churn.
"Maybe we shouldn't..." Straw started, but too late. Khoran was already heading around the bend just ahead.

The men turned at the sound of the approaching horse, except for the bowman who still kept his weapon carefully trained on the woman.

The man holding the bloodied rag to his wound gave both horse and rider an appraising look, quickly noting the rider's fine clothes and the high quality animal. "Not that it's any of your business," the highwayman said, thinking quickly and weaving a plausible story. "But these two are dangerous wanted criminals," he gestured to the woman and then to the one lying motionless. "Pity we had to kill that one. The Lord Esmond pays more if they're alive."
