It's alright not to. I do the same thing when I join a RP late because I don't want my character to have ideas I've learned from reading about things she wasn't there to see. Just make sure you know where everyone is--skim for location or just ask.

Isabella sighed and glanced back before following her master again. She pursed her lips, mentally reminding herself to stay silent. He seemed on edge and she didn't want to be the one to push him over.

Isabella blinked and stopped as soon as he indicated her to. I don't smell anything, of course, she thought. She looked around and then back at the fallen mouse girl, her eyes widening a bit. There's nothing I can do to help her...I think... She slowly looked back to Klaus. She opened her mouth to speak but closed it again. Then she tried again and cleared her throat. "Um, don't you think you've had enough? We should get home before the blood stains so I can wash that shirt for you," she suggested carefully.

She looked up at the tree and frowned as she wasn't even able to spot the potential victim he was talking about. Regardless, she mouthed a "sorry" up at the branches and follow behind Klaus.
