Because the RWBY cast are all competent enough fighters that it has never been necessary but at the point where there might get killed by Grimm on a training exercise the staff would step in for instance, during RWBY's mission to the abandoned town the Professor let the kids do all the work against the regular Grimm but when the situation became dire he actually started to fight. Besides there not just going to sit at there monitors and watch people get slaughtered.
Oi, few things misunderstood probably due to my poor wording, but never mind But what I think is that when you can die at initiation, dying anywhere else is not an issue for the school. Remnant is not Earth, it is a bloody, hostile environment where humans are a minority on a world that is out to kill them. They're probably looking at it in a different light.
Forsythe
Thing is while it might appear that anyone can die during initiation the grounds are closely monitored and controlled. They might have live and dangerous Grimm on the battlefield but they also have a senior staff of well trained hunters ready to step in when things get really bad. Being another world the staff doesn't really have a problem with the students getting extremely roughed up given the state of some people after the exam but they wouldn't actually let anyone die if it could at all be avoided. Also I have two questions regarding the contest, what is meant by Motif: Paper and when you say the character is the lancer of the team what does that mean in terms of combat?
Sapphire Rode - Hallway

Geni's answer worried Sapphire, from the sounds of it he felt himself no longer welcome at Beacon and more than likely he was planning on running. As someone who understood that impulse quite well Sapphire knew first hand that it never solved anything. Before she had a chance to say anything about it however the teacher Professor Chatsworth arrived no doubt to hand down Geni's punishment. He dismissed her back to the classroom but Sapphire was more than a little reluctant to go. An authority figure telling him how much trouble he was in was not what Geni needed, he'd likely been doing that to himself since he'd left the classroom. Right now he needed someone on his side but Sapphire wasn't going to get a chance to be that person.

"Just don't do anything stupid or rash. You have people counting on you here." Sapphire glanced back at him. "I'll see you in class." Then she walked off back down the corridor.

Once Sapphire was out of sight of the Professor and Geni she stopped. Sapphire's little sister had always told her her fatal flaw was an insatiable curiosity. More specifically a curiosity about things which she was supposed to have no knowledge. Her father had often told her it would get her killed one day. Sapphire glanced back at the corner to the hall were Geni and Chatsworth were talking then she looked ahead towards the classroom. Chances are if she returned there wouldn't be a whole lot ot do so might as well.

Sapphire flicked on her semblance, her form blurring out of existence to all but a very select few. The last thing either Geni or Chatsworth would expect was for her to return to the hall to eavesdrop and her semblance took full advantage of that granting them the sight they expected to see, the landscape that was devoid of Sapphire Rode.

She walked very deliberately and very silently back maintaining a good distance. They could neither see nor hear her unless she made some very loud and attention drawing noise but she was still solid if they got too close they would knock into her and her illusion would shatter. So she kept close enough to hear there conversation but far enough away that she could avoid either of them if they moved towards her. What could she say, she was curious.
The devil opened up his case and he said "I'll start this show" and fire flew from his fingertips as he rosined up his bow and he pulled the bow across the strings and it made an evil hiss and a band of demons joined in and it sounded something like this.
((I always preferred the Muppet version of that song, if only because I have no idea how that the producers ever got this past the censors.))
Agent B52
You do know that the original version of that Muppets act used the regular version of the song right? Muppets - The Devil went Down to Georgia
I'll make a bet with you.

I'll put forth the golden fiddle.
KabenSaal
A fiddle of gold against you soul 'cause I think I'm better than you.
Can Sapphire do 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia' for an opener?
Me too, Sapphire is skilled with the violin as well as singing which should surprise a good number of people when they first hear it. I've always wanted to learn the violin, I think once the summer comes I'll hit up my aunt for music lessons.
I thought I remember Martha Wayne becoming that universe's Joker. Not dying.
Guess Who
It's been awhile since I looked into the Flashpoint Paradox, you're right. In Flashpoint Joe Chill only killed Bruce and Martha being unable to cope with her loss became the Joker while Thomas became Batman.
<Snipped quote by Kaithas> I'm actually interested in Spider-Gwen (the costume looks nice anyway). Elseworlds stories always make me curious. For example "What if Superman crashed in Soviet Russia?" you get "Superman Red Son" or in the case of Mark Millar his comics are "What if [insert comic book character] was a jerk?" they are good fun.
If you want something like that take a look at the Flash Point plot line. Flash uses his super speed to break the flashpoint barrier (timetravel) in order to go back and save his mother from being murdered. Trouble is damaging the flashpoint barrier is an incredibly volatile way of traveling through time. It causes ripples out from the point of contact. So Flash's mom lives but other things change drastically. Superman's ship misses it's mark crashing into the center of Metropolis instead of Smallville leading it and him to be commandeered by the government. Bruce and Martha Wayne are murdered by Joe Chill instead of Thomas and Martha leading Bruce's father to become the Batman. The Amazon's and the people of Atlantis make contact with eachother without neutral supers like Superman, the Flash and Batman to ease tensions and a full scale war breaks out with humans caught in the middle. Atlantis floods the British Isles, Amazon's conquer Paris naming it New Themyscira. Things spiral from there, shit hits the fan hard.
That is so very very wrong for so many reasons, the continuity of the comics is there for a reason, if they're going to disregard it completely why not just make an entirely knew Superhero team? Though I suppose they'll make a killing on those people who know it's going to be bad and attend because they are both fans of F4 and want to be able to tell people just how bad it was.
