To her friends, the few ones she has, she does her best to be there for them. To help when they move houses, need a couch to crash in, or simply if they need someone to smoke with. It's hard for her to make emotional attachments or show any real appreciation. To her, everything feels artificial and fake. Like a mask, she can never take off, but after years of pretending, it has become second nature to her. Smile when appropriate, look into their eyes, nod your head, and look interested. Small talk is always hard to come by, so she always has a short list memorized of everything to talk about. It's her apartment, and she will do what she likes. She works out every other day and usually in the mornings. Has trouble sleeping or arrives from work at ungodly hours of the night. She's not very quiet about it either, so far, she has received two complaints from her neighbors. F E A R S : Large bodies of water, lakes, and pools are fine, but she draws the line at oceans. Where she grew up alongside her six siblings and parents in a ranch called "Hermoso Paraiso," and how they would primarily farm potatoes. She'll tell you how she would swim in the nearby lake with her church friends, and if you are lucky, she will even tell you about the dead deer half decomposed she found in their backyard once. About her closet-knit community inside the church and how everyone loved everyone, always smiling. Always there. Always watchful.

Or she might tell you how she grew up in upstate New York and went to Catskills every year with her parents for the summer. She'll tell you all about Athen's all town, delicious food, and how fun it was to take a boat around the lakes. How her parents kept her close by at all times, and how they rewarded her for being at the top of her class. How would they buy her ice cream whenever she got an A in her exams, and how they always tell her they were proud of her.

Once she told her roommate that she was born in Guadalajara. Her parent's home was a two-story house with a big wall surrounding it and a pool on the back. She told him that her mother, Miriam, would cook fried eggs for breakfast every day, and they'd all gather around the table to pray for their family, their church, and their leader. Told him that they would go out on Sundays to this big white church, its roofs curved to the heavens, where hundreds of them would worship like one big hive mind. All blinded by faith and the willingness to stay ignorant.

No one really knows much about Liliana, and that's fine. She likes it this way. They only know what they need to know; she works in the Pink Kitty Cat strip club, she has a "mild" weed addiction, she wants to adopt a cat, she always works out in the mornings, and she volunteers in the local shelter every Sunday morning.
