Watched the first epsiode of The strain.

I thought it was a good pilot episode. Del Toro knows his shit. It's too soon to say whether or not it's gonna be a good show consistently, but it's visually fantastic. Sorta have to wait and see what happens I guess, but so far I'm still watching.

I think mostly because, in terms of celestial bodies, moons are necessarily more common than planets. So it's reasonable to expect that there are (numerically) more habitable moons than there are habitable planets; and then, going by our own solar system and common-sense probability, most moons are probably orbiting the most massive planets, so gas giants theoretically work.

Plus it totally aces the 'rule of cool,' so obviously, sci-fi is gonna go there.

Passive Voice vs Action Voice

There is a time and a place for passive voice. The habit though is to use it *constantly*, and that's pretty much the worst thing you can do. Passive is good for exposition, which, again, is something you should try to avoid -- but when it's required, direct sentences can be counterproductive. It should generally be treated as seasoning, and not as an ingredient. Active voice needs to be the bulk of what you write; until you're fully confident in your active voice, don't screw around with passive very much.

Example of ALL PASSIVE ALL THE TIME

Pizarro was a conquistador. He was spanish. The Incas were conquered by him in the 1500s. It was crazy.

Example of ALL ACTIVE ALL THE TIME

Pizzaro became a conquistador. A spanish family raised him. He conquered the Incas in the 1500s. Pizarro epitomized craziness.

Example of A HEALTHY BALANCE

Pizarro was a Spanish conquistador who conquered the Incas in the 1500s. It was crazy.

Personally i feel that if you cannot prove it or show me good odds that it is probably correct then i do not know how you can possibly believe it.

Something that is 100% proven to me, is not necessarily proven to you. That's partly because of different thresholds for 'proof,' yes, but even if we ignore that, it's often a matter of perspective. "Is this relationship healthy?" To rely solely on concrete, demonstrable and irrefutable truth, such a question would paralyze you. Human nature can't be treated as binary. We're not robots.... Look at the stock market, look at sports, look at politics, look at religion, look at art, look at any human endeavor; we're not creatures of mathematics, we're creatures of spirit. Wild, unpredictable, transcendent.

I'm all for military technology that saves lives. The Iron Dome system is fantastic. I can't say I'm for dropping the hammer, because it's almost entirely civilians getting killed. Hard to come across as the good guys when you're basically beating the kid next door with a barbed wire bat in retaliation for largely ineffective bottle rockets. The more Israel does shit like this, the more inclined your average Palestinian is going to support the guys who fight back.If you want to stop Hamas from being a major threat, stop driving people to them.

Specifically why Hamas is incentivized to continue indiscriminate rocket attacks on Israeli population centers. This is why terrorism works.
