So I'm not gonna rehash old shit, but basically, MDK has a shit leg. Been trying to fix it for like three years now, and it's only got worse. Blah blah blah, lots of boring bureaucratic doctor crap, fast forward to last Friday. I got this cool new surgery that isn't really cutting it yet, but it's a clever idea. Basically they implanted a wire into the nerves in my leg, and another one into my spine. Then these wires run out to this little battery-powered thing that I carry around, and I can use an electrical current to disable the nerve signals coming from my knee. If it works, then later they'll implant like a permanent version, pacemaker-type shit. Of course, my luck being what it is, the thing isn't quite living up to snuff, so I'm probably not getting one of those, and the last alternative is to just amputate the whole leg and be done with it (finally). But in the meantime, I can fuck around with electrical currents in my body and basically numb myself from the waist down, which is actually strangely soothing. It doesn't actually paralyze anything -- it's only blocking the nerve signals coming back to my brain, and even there, it's not 100% blocking them (which is why this shit can still hurt so much). Anyway I'm pretty sure this makes me officially part-cyborg, since I can manually turn off pain receptors like a Section 9 hacker. This thursday I get to go back in to get the wires pulled out, and we decide if we're gonna bother with the 'permanent' version. Right now it's looking like 'naw, fuck that,' but I have to do some more testing first, and in the meantime, I get to partially control my own nervous system, which is pretty cool.
