I actually totally already have a life-alert thing :/ Wheelchair guy living alone, they wouldn't take no for an answer.
This has been in the works for a while, and it became official about two weeks ago, and I haven't really said anything about it cuz it's hard to talk about. But here goes. In a little under two weeks, I'm undergoing a trans-femoral amputation on my left leg. It's an 'elective' procedure, in the sense that medically speaking the leg isn't technically killing me, so if I wanted, I could keep chugging pain pills and lurking RPG for many more years to come. But that would be boring. Life is more interesting than that, even life on one leg. I've got a few factors working in my favor -- I'm young-ish, otherwise healthy, without a whole bunch of risk factors; the longer I wait, the more those factors start to work against me. This is my best shot and I'm taking it. If everything works, I disappear for a day or three, then return to torment you all with pithy Ayn Rand-ian pompous dickery. Worst case scenario (and this is pretty goddamn unlikely, but it is a risk), on the 14th I disappear forever, and you're left to wonder whether this was an elaborate long-con or if I'm shooting scotch with Jesus. The expectation though is, I come out on the other side with a fair chance to work my way back into a normal life. Win or lose, at least I tried. I could agonize over this choice for a few years, if I wanted, but that's really not my style. I'm more the type to take a wild risk without an ounce of fear, and crack inappropriate jokes while I do it. So in the interim, that's pretty much what I'm gonna do. If you think of it, and you don't mind saying a prayer (or pretending, or not), that certainly couldn't hurt. Now then, jokes!

1. Starting on the 15th, I can only be in one kind of porn.
2. Assuming I don't get cold foot before then.
3. This is really gonna put a spring in my step.
4. Actually this sort of surgery usually costs an arm and a leg, but I'm really good at haggling.
5. Fortunately all my lucky socks go on the right foot.

Anyway, that's happening. Whatup.

Well, the thing is that the DEA funds itself through licensing-fees of legal dealers (like the one being discussed) and due to the escalation of the war on drugs and stringent regulations, less companies are out there and the DEA's budget has grown several thousand fold each year solely to burn weeds. .Care to guess what that does to her company? And every other American-legal drug-company?

I read this post like four times and I have *literally* no idea what you're arguing.

Aaannnnddd this (amongst other reasons) is exactly why I said this:But it's still undeniable that the British could have won at multiple points despite those victory conditions being stacked against them. You say "of course America won" - well, uh, actually, no, it was never that clear-cut. America would always have gained independence eventually, one day, for the reasons you said or as part of the collapse of the British empire, but there was absolutely no guarantee that Washington would win independence with his rebellion (indeed, he very nearly lost multiple times and only got away with it via luck and foreign aid.)

And also with dirty fighting.

ahahahhahahahhahahahahhahahnolrn2historyI was gonna write out a huge post explaining why, but I don't want to get into a debate with all the 'murrikans here. It suffices to say that a colossal portion of the rebellion's victory was to do with luck, and to do with the aid of foreign nations who wanted to mess with Britain (the French in particular, as well as the Spanish and Dutch, all sided with the US at various points, if I recall correctly). And also, I think, to do with the fact that (particularly, but not solely, at the beginning of the war) the British (or, rather, Howe) were not willing to go all-out. Had they been, the rebellion would have been crushed very early on.Although thinking about it, I prefer the question "were the rebels actually the underdogs?" more than "could the British have beaten them?" That'd be much more fun to argue. >:3EDIT: Not that I'm claiming to be an expert on the Revolutionary War. I've never studied it in detail; my opinions on it are based mainly on what I've read around the internet from historians every single time this argument comes up.

The victory conditions were stacked in our favor. All we had to do was fight Britain to a stalemate unfavorable enough that they'd give up. The prospect of maintaining an American colony had to be so prohibitively expensive that any future attempts at control would be untenable. Which, turns out, was easy to accomplish -- simply by being in a state of open rebellion, Washington's mere existence was proof that we could not be ruled. It didn't matter that his army always lost -- he had an army, and he would always have an army -- would always be able to find international support from enemies of Britain, would always find colonists willing to replenish his ranks, would always and forever occupy *some* british territory *somewhere*, and nothing about that is a wise investment for an evil Redcoat overlord.

TLDR -- of course America won. We had the smallest, poorest, worst-trained and badly led troops, but we also had the simplest victory conditions. That's the same thing currently giving us trouble in the middle east, too. It doesn't matter that you can kill a thousand terrorists with the click of a mouse -- that doesn't fuck with their odds of winning *at all*.

Too soon.

More like too late. 9/11 was weeks ago.
Mental ventriloquism. I want to be able to 'throw my thoughts,' so that they seem to be coming from someone else. It's different from 'Incepting' people or whatever, because the idea wouldn't need to take hold -- it would just be echoes of my own consciousness. Illusions of ideas. They don't have to last (if they did, that would make the world feel pretty empty -- I don't want to control people, I simply want to be able to trick them on a mental level.

Yes, it's a supervillain power, I'm okay with that. I'd use it for mischief, and to 'open doors' to people that piss me off (wanna know where Al Qaeda is hiding? Put MDK on the phone with a terrorist, problem solved!) Eventually someone would try to weaponize me, and I would have to start using my power to protect myself (and by extension, the world, from an abuse of my own powers by a less scrupulous party).
