“Not that easy doggy.” Metz murmured in response, holstering his pistol as he continued to weave a bolt, preparing it for release from both hands. It was going to be one hell of a bang.

Metz had no intention of jumping thirty feet off a platform to the ground, even with Mana, because getting back up would be a pain in the ass. He simply finished weaving his spell to its full potential and then ran towards the middle platform, jumping across the divide towards it, trying to get a better angle on his opponent below him. He span in mid-air as he did so, ready to release the bolt immediately if he sighted his foe.
Let me know what you want me to do.

Just decide when the ash would start falling and let us know, I think it's a bit early personally.
Although Metz was unable to manipulate his earthen pillar further without magic, he still had the ability to return the earth to its natural state at will after imbuing it with mana. He waited a few moments after the searing fire left the area, the fire having had the effect of heating up the surroundings slightly but with only a three second burn time having no real long term effects. Then, when he was satisfied it was likely he safe he removed the earth pillar while his left hand sank to his belt and pulled out another vial of pure mana, preparing to drink it if necessary. Habit forced him to see if his foe had been slain before he used the precious mana, though it would perhaps have been more tactically sound to drink it immediately. The rock sank around him abruptly, showing him the effect of his fire.

His opponent was below him, though he had no way of knowing it at that moment, and was somehow flash-freezing a huge area with his cold magic through solid rock. Metz was only just able to feel the slight chill in the air, as rock beneath him shifted and cracked from the sudden changes in temperature and its general mistreatment. With a head for elemental magic the Mage was fairly confident it was unlikely his heat treatment would destabilise the rock to the extent that it could fall apart, even if his foe continued to use his unfamiliar cold magic upon it.

“Now, where are you? I know you’re still alive, I can feel the cold.” He looked around the platforms with his gun at the ready, and then quickly looked up above himself.

“Hope this bastard can’t make himself invisible, hah.” His eyes widened. “Shit.”

Realising he wasn’t being killed by an invisible assailant, he realised there was only one more place for his foe to be. Beneath the platforms, most likely the very one he was stood upon at that moment. So, how best to eliminate him. He was hopefully injured by the fire, though obviously not dangerously, so maybe magic was the way to go. His foe was quick, and now he had an idea of how the Pillars worked, so he needed to utilize his fastest form of attack. Bolt, the electrical strike that could destroy solid rock with its impact, should be more than suitable for his nimble foe. He would see if he could outrun lightning.

He drank the potion quickly, replacing the vial and looking about himself, concentrating on forming the bolt, as the air slowly grew colder, his body warmed with the flow of mana.
The stone statues are over a hundred feet tall, so unless your character fell a good forty feet to the floor a sixty foot high wave of fire wouldn't have hit the ceiling.

I think Skallagrim should probably have control of when the ash falls, as it obviously benefits your character significantly.
I am hardly upset. I have not started swearing. Hang around long enough and you will get to know everyones quirks.

Yeah, people assume something similar about me a fair bit.
Most of my characters have some quirk or character trait that could be considered exploitable though it's incredibly rare I find that anyone ever tries. That's probably just down to people not really bothering to explore other people's characters that well, or not taking note of subtle clues in combat that display the character's weaknesses.

The most obvious one is probably Fury, his character flaws are pretty close to his only real weakness and your best chance of beating him. I think people often underestimate how interesting a character that can exploit backstory or emotions would be, I've only tried to develop a character of that kind once and I never got to explore his usefulness fully.
So in that case the story arc was named Gorilla and the Skulltor or w/e, you don't have to have your opponent name in the title? As you might fight many opponents in one arc.

Oh the innuendoes I could make

It always gives you a hard time.
He'll rule in your favour, I'll edit my post to take a bigger hit then you post and this process will probably keep on going until I eventually lose.

Never investigate the rock pillar.

I doubt it will be that severe, ultimately my character's main abilities rely on a lot of factors, his elemental attacks will be nearly useless now as your character will be able to summarise a lot about how they work if you're smart about his observations.
Shots fired, but ultimately yeah I'd like to see balance in the form of -real- weaknesses and strengths in characters, like actual humans.
