Arena has literally always been marked by peaks and troughs on RPG, tending to coincide with the arrival of migratory influences. Someone is bound to come up with something interesting eventually and things will pick up again, it just won't be me, because I have no interest in leading anything.
Hey, looks like I might have won myself a disc, if I cared about stuff like that.
No doubt, I'd have much preferred another re-do of the Arena multiverse to the ranked system tournament, but that's what people wanted this season so that's what they got.

Exactly what you describe was tried earlier in the season in regards to duels between individuals for their planets and the like, but it never took off for whatever reason. Perhaps the community is just too small.
@MelonHead
I'd crush your skull in a rematch with Shin :V

I handcuffed Shin so much for that tournament, just to get that damn disc.

Disc? You mean the weapon he was using? I know Shin left behind some sort of rail-gun pole which would probably kill Metz, he has a lot of hurdles I have to leap over just to use his abilities. Still rekt everyone in the tournament though, using the power of luck predominantly.
@MelonHead

Heck we even have a storyline that explains why Shin-Ra is here during which we've fashioned a setting for the Arena and RP Guild when we could find none in place. It's not that obvious since we're not invading the community and making a shitshow of things by throwing our egos out there. But that fits SRI's theme, we're not here to destroy the Guild so much as we're here to explore and make new connections, it's our job.

Don't get me wrong, the Arena has a multiverse, it's just very disjointed. The Nexus of Worlds is the current one in place (it's been around for about two years) I interact with it because it is immensely convenient and simplistic, all universes are connected by a system of portals and wormholes, destabilising elements have broken the veil in multiple places allowing characters from separate universes to interact who wouldn't normally be able to.

Every fight I've ever had also adds to the stories of my existing characters, though only some of it gets written up depending on how important the fight is or how interesting the opponent was.

As soon as you write that shit, you hit me up.

I think Metz and Daniel might have a rivalry. Or at the very least friendship.

No doubt, they fought eachother and even fought together (loosely speaking) for a short time, so there's at least the start of a friendship there. Other than Shin absolutely hating Metz (for pwning him lolololgetrektleeroyjustjokingsorry) there aren't many people around who know him.

Oh shit, that does remind me I also killed Khazna in the tournament, though that was more out of spite because I've been trying to beat Khan for three years and he keeps beating me or running away.
@MelonHead

I wouldn't say that they abandoned because of you, don't be so hard on yourself. Honestly I can play Sky at a low to mid level. The original concept is for the character to be relatively low powered but able to scale up at a moments notice if need be. But if you still find a lack of motivation then I understand. It'll be fun though ... >.>

As a side note: I don't bail on fights. I'm a stickler for seeing something through. :)

Some probably do, some don't. I've had opponents leave without a word pretty early on, had opponents leave without any issues arising what-so-ever and had opponents leave because they don't like my play-style or they get salty, essentially. I also just get pretty bad luck I suppose, though it's to be suspected that some people would leave because I give a lot of people tutorial fights, I suspect that some don't really find it to be what they expected and leave.

Anyhow, if you're still around when my motivation returns I'll be sure to give you a fight, though I do owe DJ one first (and Rilla if he ever gets a keyboard). At the moment my own writing is depressing me somewhat.

@MelonHead

Also, Melonhead, wanna fight?

Nah thanks, I'm not particularly motivated at the moment (I think about six of my fights have been abandoned by my opponents in the last few months, which probably has something to do with my lethargy) not to mention Sky Dancer is a little out of my tier bracket, though interesting none-the-less. I'm a mid to low powered kinda fellow.
@MelonHead I still need to get that rematch in between Daniel and Metz. Our fight in NoW was totally jipped by time.

Only if Metz can bring the revised spell-list I'm working on (based off what worked and what didn't.) Now the Wolf knows how Metz fights he's shit out of luck.
Maybe the problem is too many 'to the death' fights in the RPG Arena. I don't really kill people's characters very often at all, only if it has a very strong story precedent, but if more fights were explicitly non-lethal it could be interesting. Actually, none of my ranked fights have ended with me killing my opponent, though that might be more of a testament to people refusing to 'lose' in a competitive setting.

One opponent turned to gloop, other than that only Kanitah has died in all my fights since the season began, which is about 20 or so, that's pretty unlucky. @LeeRoy
