You have been working with Beacon News as a reporter for about two years now, and you're pretty proud of yourself. Here you are with your dream job, making your own living, and finally moving up in life. While you're usually given writing assignments and columns, you're true ambition is to get out in the field and do investigative journalism. You've voiced this to your bosses many times.

Beacon News (comparable to real-life Vice) is an online news and media source that hosts a wide array of stories from all over the globe. They run charities, promote people in need, and are generally pretty accurate with their reports. They have a website with a wide plethora of stories, reports, and written and video documentaries. Beacon is best known for their ballsy journalism into topics that others wouldn't touch with a ten foot stick: reporting on vicious street gangs, drug rings, prostitution, smuggling trails, and all sorts of things that have lead to reporters getting arrested, injured, and perhaps even killed. Whatever happened to Kevin?

But regardless of the risk, you were eager to hop into the company in hopes that one day, you would be out there living the adventurous life of investigative journalism. That's why, when you were offered an opportunity to get out of the office and hunt down a story, you jumped for it.

It's late September, and Beacon is looking for a spooky story to highlight of their front page for a bit of a 'Halloween special'. A front page story! They specified wanting a video mini-documentary filmed for this particular scoop, and so far, everyone else has turned it down. You, on the other hand, are eager to show that you can be of value in the field. You took the assignment without hardly even looking at the description. Later, when you got home, you sat down to read to collection of information.

"Man with no mouth sighted across North America."

"Exorcist not associated with Catholic church sought for potential murder charges."

"This man killed my son. He's a monster."

"Demon worshiping cult suspected for recent missing woman."

"Catholic church denounces involvement of recent exorcisms being performed across the nation. Man behind them is described as deformed."

All you have to work with is about five pages of sighting, brief interviews, and loose ends. A blurry picture of a willowy man, taken by what looks like a security camera, is provided. The man, walking down a dark street, has his lower face obscured by a scarf. He has dark hair, and he seemed to have paused to look directly at the camera when the picture was taken. The image creeps you out a little. The brief sightings and witness interviews claim that he's a 'freelance exorcist', not associated with the Catholic church. He may also be a murderer, as a couple of his victims died during the process of the exorcism. This is the man that Beacon wants you to find and shoot a mini-documentary on.

1: So obviously, I'm looking for someone to fill the journalist role. They can be either male or female.

2: This is NOT going to be a romance RP. Let's just put that on the table now. I do no see any potential romance between the journalist and the second main character.

3: I would prefer you to be 18+, but since there will be no sexual themes in this RP, it's not crucial.

4: I do not intend for the journalist to have any powers or whatnot.

Name: Kurt Mangrove

Personality:
Kurt is more or less a social outcast. Aside from a few friends, he doesn't have much going for him. Kurt isn't very outgoing or friendly. He tends to stick with the people he knows and won't venture out of his friend group unless pushed to. He's pretty secretive, never talking about himself or his family. His quiet nature, mixed with his grim attire and tall stature, tends to make people nervous.

Kurt most likely suffers from undiagnosed depression. He shows up to school when it's convenient for him, because some days he just doesn't want to see other people. As of right now, he's just going through the motions of a teenager's life, not really seeming to enjoy the ride.

He was assigned room 405 based on one teacher's not inaccurate suspicion that he was being neglected by his parents.

Appearance:
Most of Kurt's clothes were hand-me-downs from his dad.
He wears a lot of dark colors, red, bright purple, and skeleton themed clothes, most of which are too big for him. His dad has a lot of money, so most of the clothes Kurt wears are name brand and very expensive. This leads people to believe that Kurt has money, which is false.

Body-wise, Kurt is very tall and skinny. He stands at 6'2", and still waiting on one last growth spurt. He is very lanky, and could probably use a little more protein in his diet. His knobby joints tend to stick out, and his face is sort of gaunt. He is very pale skinned, giving him an overall half-dead appearance. His hair is messy, dark curls. His eyes are dark blue, almost purple looking. Kurt has a faded scar on his either side of his throat, almost as if it was skewered with something. He has a few noticeable track marks on his arms from a few years ago, but he's mostly clean now.

Other:
Kurt is a functional mute. While he can talk, scarring in his throat and vocal cords make it uncomfortable and very rough sounding. This probably has something to due with the scars on his neck, which he never really cares to explain. He's had them for a very long time. He mostly communicates via sign language, and really only talks out loud when he has to. His voice usually frightens people when they first hear it.

The internal scarring on his throat also makes it difficult for him to swallow solid food. For the most part, Kurt lives on a diet of smoothies, soups, protein shakes, pudding, and custard-like textures. His poor nutritional intake probably attribute to his thin build.

His mother was unfit to raise children, so Kurt's father was saddled with taking care of him. This usually consisted of him being dumped off on stage managers and other groupies. Kurt actually saw very little of his father. He was, instead, raised by punkrockers who really had no business being anywhere near a child, and most of whom were hardcore drug abusers. It's a miracle Kurt survived his childhood mostly unscathed.

Kurt's father finally began to lose popularity and began to fade into the background of the music world. He bought a large house and settled down for a while, actually hanging around Kurt for a few years. This didn't last long. He decided to go and re-kindle his career and took off again, leaving Kurt alone at the house. Occasionally, money will appear in an envelope with no return address, but for the most part, Kurt is on his own. He avoids disclosing his family background or home situation to anyone but his closest friends, because he doesn't want to be taken away and put into foster care.
