Bio

Howdy all! I figured it was about time I spruced up my bio section. Or, y'know. Wrote something in it other than WIP.

So! Things to know about my mostly-good self:

I'm a 20 year old female, hailing from a not-so-small town in the north east of England. I'm currently about a third through my second year at Uni, and have made some awesome friends there so far. I also debate. That's always fun - arguing has always been an annoying trait (for others, that is) of mine, so putting it into something one can have on their CV is great. The competitions are super fun too. Anyway, roleplaying.

If you've known me for a short or long while, you'll likely know what an absolute slut for fantasy I am. High fantasy to low, I love those kind of roleplays and will nearly always be interested in new ones that crop up. The same applies for Sci-Fi, but at the moment, I'm not feeling inspiration for a good ol' spacefaring RP. Gotta get the Mass Effect out again, get me craving some Turian booty again. However, I won't go for only these ones. SoL can interest me if they're run properly, alongside horror, mystery, romance, etc. I won't ignore something simply because it doesn't have magic or flying bears in it or something. As for level, I like to consider my writing high-casual to low-advanced. Hopefully others will agree with me on that one, haha. Anyway, here's a list of specific fandoms I enjoy, kind of in order of preference:

  • Lord of the Rings Universe (Including The Hobbit)
  • Dragon Age series
  • Elder Scrolls
  • Mass Effect Trilogy
  • Star Trek (I'd love a Discovery one right now!)
  • Star Wars (Specifically the time around the Prequels; while I shan't get into the whole Prequel/Original war on which is better, roleplaying makes for more excitement in the prequel era. Clone Wars guys, c'mon!)
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  • Fringe
  • Greek Mythology (PJO, but with the amount of Camp Half-Blood roleplays that have come and gone, I'd prefer one based more on the Original Mythologies)
  • Norse Mythology
  • Marvel
  • Left 4 Dead
  • The Walking Dead (Or any Post-Apocalypse Roleplay, really.)
  • 'A Song of Ice and Fire' Series
  • House of Night Series
  • True Blood
  • Deus Ex
  • Blood Ties
  • The Vampire Diaries (I admittedly abandoned the show and books when the plot got too boring, but I still like the Universe. I'd join a roleplay based in it, if it had original characters, that is.)
  • Pacific Rim

Aaannndd I'll stop the list here before I go on forever. Basically there's a lot, particularly in the realm of fantasy. Hit me up if you want me in your roleplay, of if you'd like to do a 1x1 based around any of those areas, or even some additional ones if you think I'd be interested. I love original plots and Universes too, especially if they're done well.

If anyone's curious about my post, Lyra had a bout of Andronesian Encephalitis - poor girl just can't pronounce it properly. For further curiosity, Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain; not sure what the "Andronesian" part of that changes. It's hardly life-threatening... in the 24th Century, that is.
"Personal Log; Stardate... um... something. I think it's winter down here on earth, if that helps?

Today will be my first aboard the Starship Orion - it will be the largest ship I've served on so far, and also my first day as Chief of Security. I have some feelings of tension about it - I'm more than aware there are individuals aboard the ship who would have liked my new rank; particularly older people than myself. However, I doubt anyone will be unprofessional about it.

I'm particularly looking forward to seeing my old friend Jovar again; it's been a few years since we've seen each other, aboard the USS Cochrane. That had been a considerably smaller vessel than the Orion, but I won't let myself be daunted by it. Bigger ship means more people, after all. And I love meeting new people!

As for meetings, those aboard the Bridge will have to wait. A few weeks ago - while aboard my previous assignment of the USS Centaur - I contracted Andro-... Andro-nesian Encef. Ence- ugh. I contracted something contagious and annoyingly debilitating, so I have to report to the sickbay first for a check-up. Just in case it managed to sneak back on board with me. I do not want to go through that again - not on this mission."

Deciding that was quite enough time spent on logs, Lyra switched off her small recording device, and tapped it lightly against her open palm thoughtfully. She had yet to leave her temporary quarters at Starfleet Headquarters - helpfully supplied after her leaving the USS Centaur. Lyra had been serving there for the past two years, and it had been a good enough run. However, once the job became available about the Orion, she couldn't resist applying for it. There were several people aboard the Centaur that had encouraged her to put herself forward for the job - although she was slightly unsure whether they actually wanted her to get a promotion, or just wanted to get rid of her altogether. The thought didn't bother her - Lyra knew that not everyone was comfortable with her somewhat loud personality, and she wasn't going to blame those people for it. Unless of course, they became mean about it.

Then she'd be bothered.

Putting those thoughts aside with a sigh, Lyra left her quarters, making her way to the transporter room with a slight bounce in her step. This wasn't the time for questioning people she wouldn't be working with anymore; better to think about the prospect of the new people! According to what Lyra had heard, there was a pleasant mish-mash of different species aboard the ship she would soon be boarding - including ones she had never met before. Still... as she had mentioned in her personal log, all of this would have to wait until after her medical exam.

"Oh, I hope they don't take a lot of blood samples this time." She murmured under her breath in a worried sort of tone, brow furrowing slightly. She was hardly one to be squeamish of blood and needles, but it was annoying when they took too much. Surely, the doctor's didn't need an entire pint of blood just to check for diseases? The last one had, at least.

Deciding - once again - that negative thoughts shouldn't be around her at this somewhat pivotal moment in her career, Lyra avoided further thought into her coming medical exam and joined a group of others at the transporter - the journey always bothered some people, but for her, it was fast and painless. Well, unless something went wrong and you had your atoms scattered across the void of space, but Lyra never really considered that as a big risk. It wasn't a fun thought, really.

While the rest of the people milled out of the transporter room aboard the Orion, Lyra paused as she spotted the young woman at the controls - an ensign, by the look of her uniform. Taking a moment to introduce herself with her token smile and handshake (Lyra had to be careful with things like this in the past; most species were happy with handshakes, but there was a rather embarrassing moment with a Vulcan that one time...), she chatted a while with Kayla; asking various questions about the ship, it's crew, and of course, the Captain. Who, interestingly enough, could be considered rather young for the race she belonged to, and was still considered to be extremely talented in varied fields. This was a soothing thought to Lyra, what with her own appointment being premature in the eyes of some.

After bidding a farewell to the young Ensign - who seemed a bit less bored now that she'd met an Avalian for apparently the first time - Lyra soon found herself wandering the corridors of the Orion, smiling to herself as she went. One could tell even in just the corridors that the ship was bigger than both the Oberth and Centaur class starships; but a full exploration would have to wait until she'd visited the sickbay.

"I wonder if someone will give me a tour?" Lyra thought to herself as she made her to the sickbay - she didn't want to keep the CMO waiting, after all.

She's good to go!
@Didos

I'll allow the second one, as long as it clearly states it isn't controlling other people - they may feel the influence, but they have the choice to act on it. Just like any social pressure, be it good or bad - like a trend, as you said. As for infiltration, I think that would factor more into your first power than your second - but as the roleplay progresses and the character's use their powers more, your character may be able to control her power more closely - perhaps even becoming invisible? Your choice, of course!

So, make those tweaks, and she's good to put in the character's tab. :)

@Witch Cat

It's no problem at all - thank you for being receptive to suggestions! There's no real rush as of now to finish your CS, so don't feel like you need to think of something fast. And just because the maximum is 3, doesn't mean you have to have that amount. :)
Okay, let's get down to business! TO DEFEAT. THE HUNS

@Witch Cat
Lovely character! First of all, "The Mist" is a solely PJO term as far as I can tell - I wasn't even sure myself so I had to look it up, haha. So, I would recommend you change that section to just illusion magic; now that will take away the ability to teleport, and hold items, and all the other things the Mist does. However, Illusion magic alone is still a pretty cool power.

That brings me to the whole issue with magic - as stated, it is a very broad term to use. So, I really like the point you've made about focusing on Hecate's own specialties; nature's already been covered in the second power, which is awesome. Illusion magic could replace your first, and necromancy is fun for the whole family, so that could take up your third power - entirely up to you.

The thing is with magic, from what I can tell, most Demi-Gods in the stories are capable of doing magic (Just as they're overall more resistant and stronger than a regular human); a child of Hecate will just be stronger, more talented, and more resistant to the consequences of magic. So while Danielle - and the other Demi-Gods - are capable of casting spells of any kind, the ones mentioned in the powers section of her CS will be her specialty; her talent; and more importantly, the ones that won't kill her in attempting them.

Other than that, she is good to go!

@Didos
Another great character - just some minor tweaks needed here.
For your first power, I would recommend turning it to a more... chameleon affect, rather than insinuating no harm has or ever will come to her. She has the ability to make eyes pass over her without noticing anything at first, as opposed to someone threatening looking at her, and then deciding not to be threatening. I only say this because in the IC, with monsters and whatnot, it doesn't seem likely they'd decide to just not attack her; not noticing her at first is different, and also very useful.

And I'm somewhat confused over your second power - how do you plan to use it usefully in the IC?

@CrystalApple
Sorry for the delay on your updated CS, I've had a few crazy days. Daniel is wonderful as an Aphro kid rather than Apollo, it suits him overall far better - he's accepted, and you're good to put him in the character's tab. Thank you very much for agreeing with our alterations!

@Holy Soldier
Any points I have myself have already been issued by my wonderful GM's - if you would like to continue the discussion further, kindly take it to PM. I think we've been very reasonable with you so far, and there's no need to clog up the OOC with further problems on the matter when it can be discussed privately.

@Legion02
Not a weird question at all! For powers, the two main things we aim to avoid are over-powered ones, and ones with the potential to Godmod other characters. Now, over-powered ones are somewhat subjective, because what is over-powered? Basically, all you need to keep in mind is that although your character has Godly blood, they are still half human, and mortal. They're not going to have powers in the same realm as the Gods - at least at the very start of the roleplay.

Because the Gods themselves are so diverse, you can have powers that are totally ineffective in combat or not - it is up to you, we have no real preference over things like that. Obviously if you give a really random one like "Can click their fingers and suddenly everyone's wearing neon jorts" or something, then we'll have a slight issue with it. Basically, make your powers whatever you'd like but make sure they're acceptable to the setting, not over-powered, and not god-modding.

As for your second request, eh... I think we'd have to see what you have in mind first, just to make sure it isn't OP.
AHHHHHHH

Sorry for the delay my friends, been a busy day so far - I log on, and then I had to do like five different things for my parents. I shall be reviewing CS's and other things immediately!
@Holy Soldier

Okay, nice start, but there are some slight issues with the sheet.

It seems like Adom's mother is aware of Horus' backstory and true nature based off the stories she's told — like I've said before, nobody is aware of the existence of Gods, including the character's parents. I also doubt he would have stayed around long enough to be told to leave by Rashida, because Gods tend to dump their load and run on off as soon as a Demi-God is on the way. Too many questions, and all that — also the gods cannot tell the mothers/fathers of their children for the purposes of this roleplay.
The other issues lie in with your powers. There's too many for our tastes and we find them a bit problematic.

Multiple Forms:
All Gods have the ability to change into whatever form they want - I'm willing to give you the ability to change into a Peregrine, but anything beyond that is a bit excessive in my GM opinion.. Also, that "morphing" thing just seems too unlikely to allow - the mechanics of it could be messy when considering other characters Adom may fuse with; because there's no way in Hell he'd do so with a full-blooded God. I imagine he'd be safer fusing with an unstable nuclear reactor.

Sun and Moon:
Horus is God of the Sky, not those two things specifically. I am aware in the myths that his eyes personified each one, but for the purposes of this roleplay, I would say that it is merely a fable to not infringe on the other gods' territories. In addition to this, this "single power" includes several of them, among them including heat, light, gravity and oceans. I see where you're coming from: the moon controls the tides, heat and light come from the sun, etc... However, they're unlikely abilities for the son of the God of the sky especially if we say that the Sun/Moon eyes are simply a fable — which unfortunately you didn't know until now. Even if they were plausible for Horus, they're rather over-powered. I appreciate the work and the detail you put into this power and also the idea of them being able to hurt Adom if he used them too much, but those powers will not be allowed - if you have trouble coming up with ideas that are less vaguely attached with Horus, consider what abilities could come from the sky itself - and also his other Godly duties in line with war and hunting.

Blood of the King:
As mentioned with a previous CS, we cannot allow powers of "charisma" that will influence another character without their permission.

There's a difference in making oneself seem appealing to other people, and actually making the other people like your character; the latter is godmodding. As a whole, not every character will find the same sort of personality endearing.

Not everybody finds the same type of person charismatic, and to have a power stating otherwise would be godmodding. In fact you went as far as to dictate how other characters would act around him — this is something that we cannot allow and must be changed.
@Witch Cat

Hecate is fine, as she isn't explicitly stated as a virgin, and in some accounts, does have children.

The list is not a list of Gods who can be parents, but simply ones that will or may make an appearance in the IC.
@OneWayOut

I think she's fantastic! The Darkness Manip. power has the potential to be a bit OP, but I'll trust you to use it fairly in the IC. Otherwise, I can't see a thing wrong with her - you can go ahead and move her over to the CS tab.
