Bridget smiled, kind of proud of the achievement of being the better cook. It was stupid, not really that useful, but she had always enjoyed doing things to the end, trying to do her best, and having her work appreciated like that was really nice. She leaned on the table, ready to listen to the other girl's story.

She raised her eyebrows at that dream. "Wow, that's one hell of a dream" she teased the other girl. But it was the truth, too, it was something intense, and too big for a ship of this size. But Isabella sure looked focused on that vengeance. "I can understand being not seen for your talents, but for your gender. As if being a woman made you physically unable to hold any kind of weapon and void of any kind of brain" she huffed, perfectly understanding the feeling.

She followed the other girl's second serving, her eyes later turning from the jar to the other girl's eyes. "They are actually quite good skills to have around, I guess. More useful than cooking, even if it's also more common in this world" she joked. "It was something I wanted to learn before, but never really had the time. I ended up having far more knowledge about communication and business. Not really useful in front of the sea or a sword" she shrugged.

As the man came back, drink and mugs in hand, she could feel his eyes inspecting both of them for far longers than others. Seeing two young women alone, in a place like this one, was not usual. Bridget could easily guess that this has been the first wine he has served in ages, people comming to places like this usually preferring stronger and cheaper spirits.

Taking the mug Isabella offered her, she took a quick sip, trying not to cringe at the bitter and low quality taste. She always asked for wine at bars like this one, remembering fondly the taste of wine at other taverns, when she visited with her father, but always ended up being a mistake. But she always tried again. And it was still better than watered down rum, so it was something.

She looked at the other girl, swirling the wine in her mug while she thought. Too soon to really explain all her life to some other girl, she was never a trusting person, so of course she would need far more time to really explain why she decided to go that way. Still, the best lie was a half truth, or so her father said. "I could also ask the same about you. I'm pretty sure we could have that in common" she started, giving the other girl an opening while she took another sip. "I didn't really like the life I was going to have back home. So I left." she said simply, shrugging.

The Scottish smiled at the mention of the previous cook. She didn't know the man personally, but she had heard more than enough about him to know what the other girl was trying to say. "Well, I sure hope that being different from him means something nice. I'll take that as a compliment." she teased. "And after all, you always need a cook on board, so it was an easy job to get. Calm enough, not that stressful, and most of the time I just have to cook and that's it. No fighting, no climbing too high up, no danger. At least, not more danger than I can handle."

She finished talking, more than enough to really give an explanation. But she was also curious about the other girl: she looked far more put together and fancy than any of the other shipmates. And young, too, just as herself. That wasn't usual at sea. "What about you? I had never seen a cartographer as yourself, either" she asked.

Thankfully, the shopping time was done quickly, everything arraged to get to the ship tomorrow morning for a reasonable fee, and the light was still shining, giving the two girls more than enough time to enjoy some freedom on land before getting back. Even if Bridget loved travelling and living on a ship, she still enjoyed moments like this, discovering a new place and having some drinks that were not rum.

She followed the cartographer through crowded streets, pirates and merchants moving around and shouting, a fight for attention. They walked next to lots of small wooden cabins, looking wet and sloppy, as was usual in this kind of village. But soon a bigger building got the Scottish' attention, a building made of stone and painted in a bright white, even though it would need some fresh painting soon.

Inside, there was more than enough people to compete with the crowded streets. Gloomy and dark, this was just the kind of place Bridget's father only visited when making very specific business: illegal. He never showed her places like this one, leaving her at the ship in charge of others, but a few times she was able to escape and follow him around. One time he caught her, teaching her just another lesson. Money doesn't really understand about honor or law, honey. It's a game with flexible rules, and cheating is allowed as long as you are clever enough not to mess it up. Probably his wisest words.

"Oh, better not" she answered, sitting at the table and ignoring the drunken singing of a group further by the corner. "Wouldn't want to get kicked out of the place for throwing a man down the stairs". She turned slightly, watching what the other people were drinking, and trying to guess if something would be good for her taste. But anything was better than watered down rum again. "I guess I'll try the wine too. "

"Well, I sure hope so, or someday I'll end up dropped in some island" she joked with the other girl, smirking back at her. In all her time in the ship, Bridget had been more of an observer than a real shipmate, her own mistrust stopping her from really getting to know the others, while she kept an image of a serious and cold young girl. She was somewhat getting tired of that, and this surprising approach of the cartographer could be a way to insert herself into the life of their ship.

The city surely felt completely different from what she was used to: dirty streets, worse looking pirates, and a tobacco smell that could easily get the people not used to it to get dizzy. Getting to the crowded place, she grabbed her purse, taking special care of the coin the captain gave her for her task, nodding to awknowledge what Isabella said to her.

Soon they were in what looked like the shopping district, shops offering the most interesting varieties and treasures, both legal and illegal objects occupying the different tables of vendors. Walking some more, it turned into a proper market, the meat being their first stop. Bridget analysed the little shop, the produce there, thinking quickly how much would they need for their trip, and what would be better to use. The best idea would be to get some chicken, taking the complete animal, and cleaning it herself to use as much as possible. Vegetables an fruits were easy to find in their stops, but meat was harder to come by, so this was a good time to get some. She got a few chickens, and some salted pork to keep for longer.

"Not that much, but doesn't look any better there" she muttered back to the girl as she bought everything. "I'll have to work soon and get some basic things done, but it's good enough, and pretty cheap" she started walking to the next vendor, one with different preserves and some vegetables. Probably that could be the place to get everything else. She bought some basic ingredients, mainly salt, spices and basic relishes and some jams, useful to give flavour to the basic diet they have on the ship.

After arranging everything to get delivered to the ship, she finally turned to the spaniard. "So... that should be everything for now. Now it's finally time to get to a tavern. Or do you need to buy something for your maps?"

Sooner than she expected, the ship got to Nassau and the intense moving and organising started. Bridget could see everyone moving around, most of her shipmates trying to get out of the ship as soon as possible, the need to get out and fool around in a place as famous as this one making them reckless. She shook her head, as some of the man almost jumped out of the ship, laughter signaling where they were, being easily heard before seen.

Even if she didn't want to admit it, trying to keep her cool and serious appearence to the others, she was almost as excited to go into town as the others were. Even if she had been travelling in the Gunpowder Storm for some time now, they had been stopping in smaller places, smaller villages or some cities that she already knew, but she had never been to the famous Nassau. As everything calmed down, she started to get down, ready to get into the music and noise of the place. She was planning to try and gather the resources she needed for cooking, as it was her task, and arrange for some porters to get everything on the ship as she discovered the village.

She boarded one of the jolly boats, with a few of the others. There was some charged silence, everyone focused on their tasks and, more importantly, what to do after them. As they jumped out, Bridget was going to start exploring the place before she heard a voice. Unused to having people talk to her - apart from asking her to cook one thing or the other, of course - she turned, surprised. It was the cartographer, a girl that looked around her age, and maybe even from a similar upbringing. She'd seen her around before, but never really had any conversation. She looked at her, trying to guess what she was trying to do, but still smiled politely at her. She was educated to be nice and polite to everyone, after all. A smile and some charisma open more doors than any other key, her father would say.

"Oh, hi" she started, waiting for a second to let the other girl join her. At the offer, she looked at the buildings in the coast, seeing how busy the place was and counting the time she had in her head. If she got lost doing her tasks, she wouldn't have enough time to properly enjoy the place, not even for a drink, before she had to get back. And Bridget loved the ship, but she clearly preferred to enjoy the new place when she could. And a drink, a proper drink, that was the most important part. "Actually, no, I've never been to Nassau before. I have to go get some food and other resources for the kitchen, but I'd love to get a drink. About time to have something different for a change" she said, shrugging. "Do you mind showing me where can I go shop what I need? That would be faster, and give us more time at the tavern"

The blazing sun and the heat was getting tiring, even as early as it still was. Bridget had been working in the galley far before the sun decided to make an appearence, knowing fully well that using the ovens and preparing the bread for the day when the heat was fully working would not be wise. The silence and solitude, the relaxing waving of the deck under her feet, that was an added bonus of waking up before anyone else.

She enjoyed working as a cook in ships, the perfect measure of freedom, the sea, even some adventure, and the peaceful calm of cooking and feeding others. She still had to lend a hand to others from time to time, but it mostly felt like a small diversion, a new thing to try in need, than real tasks, even if she took them as serious as if her life was on the line. And when she helped during the last quick escape of the Gunpowder Storm, it was.

As the smell of fresh bread reached her, she new everything she could prepare in advance was done for the day. After that, it was only taking off some sweat from her face, and leaving some flour in exchange. Taking off and hanging the cloth she used to cover her own clothes not to make a mess of herself, she turned to the door, quickly getting outside, wanting to enjoy the sun and the peace of being still at the port before having to get back inside and prepare lunch.

Today, she took more time than she expected, getting used to moving again in a completely full room, the possibilities making her stop to think more than usual. It was nearing midday, and she was sure that soon she'd have to get back to the galley to prepare lunch, but she still wanted to get outside as much as she could. And it was the perfeect moment to do so, as soon as she was out of the galley, getting some fresh air, she saw the movement and anxiousness of the crew, the careful moving and the listening to something going on inside, even if they could hear nothing. Oh, right, the important meeting, she remembered hearing something about it.

As she got closer to that place, looking for a spot to take a breath and also try to get close to the meeting, as if she could know what was happening inside just by being close, the door opened and a figure got out, the first mate, ready to make the announcement. As soon as the news got out, a few screams of joy started, the excitement of moving again, of going to Nassau, getting to all the crew. Bridget tried to contain herself, happy that they were going back to the sea soon, bot not really minding the destination, but a small smile still got out.
@Ducksworth Oh, no, that was completely my mistake. I guess I read the character sheets but my brain didn't really process. I'll just change the name (better to avoid annoying confusion) and maintain the nationality. Sorry, had to do the CS kind of quickly when I had my computer available.

Character appearance: Bridget

Age: 28

Nacionality: Scottish

Position: Cook

Weapon: A small basic dagger she hides in her clothes

Biography:

Contrary to what anyone could think, Bridget was born in a moderately well off family, in a small village in the coast of Scotland. With her father being a well known cloth trader, she had the kind of life everyone would love to have, never in need, always having something.

When she was still very little, her father would allow her to go on his trips, and she grew up to fall in love with the sea, the waves, the feeling of instability and having to find her balance. She loved to travel, to trade, to do anything as long as she could smell the sea and feel the salty air in her face. But it all ended with her adolescence, as a woman in the sea was not enough for her mother. More traditional, she asked Bridget to come back home and dedicate her life to find a husband. Soon, the husband was found, one of her father's friends, a man far older than her. And sooner yet, asking turned into making Bridget come back against her will and forbid her to travel again.

While she was still in her father's ship, Bridget had been drawing a plan, giving a last opportunity to change her mother's mind but knowing that it was hard to change her. As soon as she got back and the argument started, the decision was made. She got back to her room, acting as angry as she was and even more, making sure they would wait before following her, waiting for her to calm down. In less than an hour, she was climbing down her window, a rucksack in her shoulder, decision in her mind. As fast as she could without looking suspicious, she walked to the pier and looked for any ship that would need someone. Soon, she was getting inside the first ship that accepted her, a small mercantile ship in need of a cook.

Since then, she learned how to move in all kind of situations, fighting for the freedom she wanted, moving ships as soon as something felt off or as soon as they started trade with people she knew from her father. As his trading improved and grew, she had to turn to more... illegal places, soon starting to work closer to pirates and smugglers. It was just a few months ago when she fund herself getting to the Gunpowder Storm, as a much needed cook.
Hello everyone! I'm quite interested in this RP, and @Psycho Sushi has been really nice letting me join even though you have already started.

You got yourselves a cook! I'll get my CS tomorrow morning (probably), and I'll check all other posts to know if I've been summoned as an NPC
