The crowd grew tighter and tighter as Kenji slowly approached the now consistent 'Thwacking' sound. Before he could push his way to the front he heard the sound grow wet, the crowed roared even louder with a mixed cacophony of cheers and displeasure before quickly dying down.

He knew then that he was too late, it was over. All that remain was the exchanging of coins, the fading excitement, the pent up aggression and the heavy smell of unwashed bodies, testosterone, spilled blood and the islands unique constant undertone, the ever present blend of stale salty alcohol that emitted from the grimy pores of most men. He had missed the fight.

"Gene..." He calls as he turns around and looks back for the doctor, unable to see her through all the crushing bodies.
"GENEV..."
He begun to shout, catching a glimpse of her clothing through the crowd, his call suddenly cut off by the even louder shrill strained yell of a man nearby.

" Twen'y on da China man!"

Kenji hadn't noticed anyone of Chinese descent and for a split second he thought about pushing his way back to the front to watch this new fighter.
But he needn't bother. In that same moment was fiercely shoved by the very same man who was yelling. He barely managed to keep his feet beneath him as he forcibly stumble through the faceless jeering crowd. The pressure of crushing warm bodies suddenly vanished and was replaced by cool empty air.
He was in the middle of the circle.
He didn't see the China man because he was the China man.

A roar erupted from the crowd, not realising the mistake, the misunderstanding. Kenji raised his open hands, softly shaking his head as he tried to melt back into the crowd, but he might as well have tried to melt into a solid wall, a wall made of many forceful hands pushing him back out. He thought he caught a glimpse of Genevieve but there was nothing she could do.

Unable to escape through that spot Kenji spun around. First he noticed a man on his back, sprawled out on the floor, clutching his bloody nose, face bruised, a red and swollen mess. Then he noticed a large monster of a man. Bald with a flat, gnarled face, a wide, bare, hairy chest, thick knotted arms and scars a plenty. The man was also missing an ear but Kenji barely had time to register that as a hammer like fist caught him in the side of the head and sent him spinning back into the crowd.

The world spun and Kenji lost all bearings. He would have surely fallen to the ground had not the crowd caught him and thrown him back into the makeshift ring. His ears were ringing, he barely perceived the roaring of the crowd and it took all his focus to blink away the stars and duck under the next wild blow.

There was no elegance in his movement but he did manage to evade the punch, coming up on the other side of the ring. Space between them now. The muscular pirate turned and gave Kenji a wicked gap-toothed grin, bloody knuckles raised and at the ready to pulverise another victim.

For a moment, Gen hears Kenjis voice, turning her head to look in the direction the yell had come from. When all of a sudden, this agitating, grading voice yells words that she can hardly make out before the circle seems to acquire someone new. It takes a moment, but finally Genevieve pushes through the crowd and sees Kenji standing in the empty space.

What. The fuck.

Her doe like turn to the apparent opponent to her…associate, and her stomach drops. Kenjis gonna die…this man was a fucking Goliath.

“Takeda-“ she begins, but quickly stops her words. He couldn’t walk away from this, and she wasn’t going to distract him. She had her guns, but it seemed…unwise, to shoot a man in broad daylight, with so many witnesses.
She watches as Kenji manages to avoid the blows of the large man, relieved as no hits yet strike him, and though she wouldn’t acknowledge it, she was impressed.

Kenji decided that if he was going to be forced to fight, well then he would. Besides, he knew a good doctor if things went bad.

After the thug threw a few more punches at Kenji, one he made the horrible mistake of trying to block which left his forearm feeling like it was fractured, he had gathered enough of his senses and assessed his opponent.

It became quickly clear that this muscular wall of muscle before Kenji was a brawler. A back alley fighter that got by on brute strength and ruthlessness alone.
While it didn't make Kenji feel any more comfortable, it did give him an edge against the wild reckless attacks.

Two heavy-handed powerful swings came one after another. The pirate swinging like he wanted to end the fight in just one punch, which, if Kenji wasn't careful he very well might.

Instinctively stepping back out of the reach of the first, Kenji had to mentally push himself forward to duck under the second, bringing him up nice and close to the brute, inside the big man's arms and guard. At this proximity his odour was even worse, his rotten breath like a physical cloud hovering over Kenji. Ignoring it he released a flurry of sharp blows to the big man's torso and ended the assault with with a leaping knee right into his gut.

While everything landed perfectly, it was near enough completely ineffectual, each blow failing to penetrate either the big man's fat or muscle depending where it landed. After his little leap, Kenji didn't land back on the ground either. Big powerful arms wrapping around his shoulders, pinning his arms to his body, holding him up in the air. Squeezing, squeezing him.

He could feel the immense pressure around him, crushing his chest, his ribs, his lungs. He tried to break free, to wriggle or to fight, but it was useless. He would scream in protest had he any breath left to do so. Kenji felt as if he was suspended both in the air and in time, the pulse of his blood like a hurricane in his ears.
With a final desperate effort he threw his forehead forward, the angle was all wrong for a good headbutt and he felt the sharp stab of a solitary large tooth Puncture his head. He really wasn't sure who that hurt most, and while it didn't free him, it did caused the thug to stumble.

Swinging his foot across his body, Kenji stabbed it down on the inside of the thugs opposing knee, a bit of skill and a lot of luck causing it to slightly buckle under the big man's weight.
Still, the giant didn't so much as loosen its grip let alone free him. Time was quickly running out for the surgeon, his face looking all the wrong colour, blood trickling down his head from where the lone tooth protruded his flesh.

As the giants stance buckled, Kenji's toes scrapped the floor. Pushing up against the man's powerful arms Kenji kicked down with all his might, driving the heel of his foot down onto the giants big toe, shattering it with a satisfying crunch.

There was a howl of pain, Kenji freed an arm and stuck the man in his throat with well conditioned, straight, strong fingers. This was finally enough to free him but Kenji wasted no time to gather his breath, sweeping out the man's weightless injured foot he brought him to one knee as he gasped for air. Then with a sharp and perfect pirouette Kenji spun around, lashing out with his foot and completing a perfect roundhouse kick that connect squarely with the thugs jaw.

'THWACK!'

The sound resonated through the air.
Kenji had kicked many a things. Straw dummies, barrels, the ships mast. But none had felt more solid than this man's head. Losing his balance in the blow, both men fell to the floor gasping for air.

Slowly, Kenji and only Kenji got back up. Panting heavily, favouring one leg over the other, blood still trickling down his face.
All in all the fight was fairly short, but the crowd didn't seem displeased, even those who lost a bit of coin. Eyeing Genevieve through the crowd, Kenji limped towards her, ignoring the crowd as they parted for him, patting his weapons to reassure himself that they were still there.

"Know where I can find a doctor?" He asks her, his teasing smile quickly turning into a pained grimace.

It became clear, relatively quickly that Kenji would fight this man. Genevieve wanted to have faith, to not worry, but she didn’t plan on seeing anything remotely close to this today. At least…not something like this off the ship.

Suddenly, the sunny day with such a giving breeze felt dark and suffocating. Part of her was attempting to figure out on the medical side what was going on, but the other half was screaming for Kenji to win.
He took her matches, she still had to get him back for that. She couldn’t very well so such a thing if the surgeon were to fall to this absolute beanstalk of a man.

“Allez, allez…” she whispers anxiously to herself as Kenji hits the man. It was obvious that he had skill in fighting, but this man was like a walrus, the fat on him acting as a barrier, hell even if she did shoot him, there were strong chances that her bullet wouldn’t even make it through to a vital organ.

As Kenji is grabbed, Genevieve tightens her grip on the gun, holding her breath. She may not be able to hit an organ, but she can sure as hell out a bullet in his skull.

If she went back missing a crew member, a surgeon no less, that would be terrible form. And that’s why she was doing it. Bad form…

Then, she sees something less uniform than Kenjis other hits as he messily head butted the man. Her eyes widen, watching as blood trickles down his face. Fuck. Although it seems to work slightly, and Gen watches as Kenji manages to get from the large man’s hold.

Genevieve lets out a loud cheer, letting go of the death grip She had on her gun.

She watches as he draws near, moving to meet him. “Very funny,” She says sarcastically. “Come on, let’s get you back to the ship.” She says, her voice turning softer as she moves to help him walk.
She wants to ask him where he learned to fight like that, but hesitate. Lots of people prefer not to share such things, bringing up the past.

The man nodded and walked behind the bar, in no time he was back with a bottle of wine and two mugs for the pirates, he looked at them a bit stranged before leaving them alone. Isabella took another look at their surroundings before pouring some wine for Bridget, then gently pushed the mug towards the scottish just with two fingers, then poured some of the drink for herself.

The wine got in contact with her taste buds; certanly it was no high quality french wine but it would do, at least for the moment. The spaiard decided to finally break the silence caused by the barman, but now they could speak without worries as the noise caused by the musucians made it almost impossible for anyone to eavesdrop.

"So...I'm curious..what is a lady like you doing here? I never got the chance to ask you that" Isabella went straight to the point, after all Bridget was already one of them. "I mean...You are nothing like the last cook we had, Erwin was...well...Erwin..." She chuckled. The previous man was as scary as any other pirate, big like a door and able to eat half of a pork all by himself, he gave the spaniard goose bumps.

"No." Kenji replies sharply. "We must gather supplies first. I won't be the reason we go back empty handed." his honour wouldn't allow it. He gazes at her with a stubborn intensity.

Just then, much to his dismay, a rugged pirate with a finely waxed moustache and colourful clothes firmly pats Kenji on the back. After congratulating him on the fight he gives them directions to a small shop on a main street. 'Somewhere he could get some supplies to fix himself up.' and invites him to come back anytime. Then he carried on counting his money and dispersed back into the hustle and bustle like everyone else.

Kenji didn't wait for a response from Gene, he just started limping off in the given direction.

As they walk, Kenji strikes up conversation.
"So...I'm curious..what is a lady like you doing here? I never got the chance to ask you that earlier" Kenji went straight to the point, after all Genevieve was already one of them. "I mean...You are not like the other doctors we usually get. They were... well... pirates..."

Genevieve grits her teeth at his refusal. This man was going to drop one day if this is how he reacted to all medical treatment. She was sure that she could have fixed his wounds quickly enough to go back and get more supplies. It was obvious though that he wouldn’t shift his opinion, stubborn as a mule.

She shifts away a bit as the stranger comes up, memorizing the directions given verbally by the burly man. Kenji begins walking, his limp driving a nail into Gens skull. This man…she sighs, moving next to him.

At his question she pauses her thoughts, looking over to him, “Oh,” she hums. She knew that something of the sort would come up eventually, she should have had a better answer. Although, everyone has something awful in their past, she isn’t special in that sense.
“Well…” she begins, messing a bit with her hair, pushing annoying strands from her vision.

“I just…wanted to see the world. Being a traveling doctor costs too much everywhere else. And besides, I’ve always had an interest in piracy. You all have a type of freedom, being on the sea, not answering to anyone but your captain.” She hums, “Freedom is a luxury to me, so when I saw a chance, I took it.”

"FREEDOM!?" He laughed. A pained groan quickly following his surprised outburst. He breathes slow and shakes his head. He opens his mouth to speak and then closes it as he retreats into thought. A hint of sorrow in his eyes as he looks at her while limping along at her side.

"I fear you mistake lawlessness for liberty."
He lets out a sigh and turns his gaze forward. "The sea does not give you freedom, only storms, hunger and graves. You have simply traded one pair of chains for another. A much harsher master. One that demands both your blood and soul."

He didn't seem much in the talking mood after that. His mood growing sour as his focus shifts to thoughts not shared.
Soon, they were at the shop.

"Ah, Master Ishaan..." The carpenter had said, slightly out of breath, and covered head to toe in wood shavings. "Perhaps you're right, sah." He dusted himself slightly, then dispensed with it, in a motion which suggested 'what's the point?' He grabbed his mug, and a second, and stepped jovially toward the older man. "This time, the drams will come from my allowance!" That made their way to the galley, to the casks, and filled two healthy portions of dark, scented rum, and made their way topside. "How long you reckon they've been ashore?" He asked as much because there was time to accomplish more with the majority of the crew off the ship, as because now that he had taken a pause on work for the day, the less likely he was to go back to it later.

He sat on the edge of the ship, legs dangling over the midships rails, a mug of rum in his hands, feeling the gentle sway of the ship in the late afternoon light. Looking out not over Nassau, but into the ocean, off the port side of the ship, watching as the sun dipped, orange and massive, toward the horizon line. There were clouds, but there would be no rain that night. He had worked only fourteen hours that day, a pittance by some days' tally. And now was the time to enjoy the fact that the ship was mostly quiet, mostly devoid of the ballyhoo that usually overtook its various spaces after the days' work had been done. "I love this place when it's quiet."

The sun was warm on his shoulders, reminding him that he could still be working, if he chose. She was waiting. She always would be. He looked down at his split, calloused, raw hands. The rum felt good. There was work to do (there always was.) But today felt like a day he could afford to sit, for now. She wasn't going anywhere. And without extra hands, there was no pitching and gumming the keel, which was the job that truly needed doing. He had avoided telling the Bo'sun that she'd need to be beached sooner than later. Nobody wanted that. But it hadn't been done in months, and the last time hadn't been by choice, even so Danneil had made good use of the time, working at least 36 hours straight to gum and pitch as much of her belly as he could. Even so, it was near time. Danneil didn't fear much, but he feared telling any captain that their ship needed to be high and dry, and vulnerable for two days.

That was a lifetime on the beach, in waters where 'friend' and 'hostile' were all relative terms, depending on how much food, rum and coin was in a rival's belly and pockets. The dreadlocked man saw Ishaan tilt the cup back. He simply poured another dram and held it out for the quartermaster.

As the man came back, drink and mugs in hand, she could feel his eyes inspecting both of them for far longers than others. Seeing two young women alone, in a place like this one, was not usual. Bridget could easily guess that this has been the first wine he has served in ages, people comming to places like this usually preferring stronger and cheaper spirits.

Taking the mug Isabella offered her, she took a quick sip, trying not to cringe at the bitter and low quality taste. She always asked for wine at bars like this one, remembering fondly the taste of wine at other taverns, when she visited with her father, but always ended up being a mistake. But she always tried again. And it was still better than watered down rum, so it was something.

She looked at the other girl, swirling the wine in her mug while she thought. Too soon to really explain all her life to some other girl, she was never a trusting person, so of course she would need far more time to really explain why she decided to go that way. Still, the best lie was a half truth, or so her father said. "I could also ask the same about you. I'm pretty sure we could have that in common" she started, giving the other girl an opening while she took another sip. "I didn't really like the life I was going to have back home. So I left." she said simply, shrugging.

The Scottish smiled at the mention of the previous cook. She didn't know the man personally, but she had heard more than enough about him to know what the other girl was trying to say. "Well, I sure hope that being different from him means something nice. I'll take that as a compliment." she teased. "And after all, you always need a cook on board, so it was an easy job to get. Calm enough, not that stressful, and most of the time I just have to cook and that's it. No fighting, no climbing too high up, no danger. At least, not more danger than I can handle."

She finished talking, more than enough to really give an explanation. But she was also curious about the other girl: she looked far more put together and fancy than any of the other shipmates. And young, too, just as herself. That wasn't usual at sea. "What about you? I had never seen a cartographer as yourself, either" she asked.

Simply by Bridget's face Isabella could tell the girl was not going to open herself to te spaniard as if they were best friends or something like that, but the girl started talking, someting was something even if it was not very detailes. The scottish talked about something she would have to go through at her home, Isabella could only come toone conclussion: the girl was running away from a man. However she did not want to dig deeper in the wound.

Isabella simply lisyened, not letting go of her mug, "Heh, yes it is a compliement, I honestly feel more safe eating your food than Edwin's, rest in peace" She joked, Bridget was right, when it came to boarding an enemy ship cooks were quite valuable so it was a bad idea to kill them, she was playing relatively safe.

Then Bridget came with the counter question, the spaniard drank half of her mug's content before giving a melancholic sigh "I...Have a dream...I want to see Spain go banckrupt...I want vengance for whats negated to me...If it wasn't because I was born a woman I would be working for the spanish navy or even the King, just like my father who taught me everything I know about cartography, but no...they rejected me just for being a woman. That's not fair! That is why I'm here, attacking spanish ships and taking their gold" she explained with anger before drinking the rest of the wine in her mug and immediately pour herself some more. "The Captain thought I would be useful since they needed a navigator, well I'm not much of one myself but with my skills is enough...and I know how to stab pepole too" she jested

Bridget smiled, kind of proud of the achievement of being the better cook. It was stupid, not really that useful, but she had always enjoyed doing things to the end, trying to do her best, and having her work appreciated like that was really nice. She leaned on the table, ready to listen to the other girl's story.

She raised her eyebrows at that dream. "Wow, that's one hell of a dream" she teased the other girl. But it was the truth, too, it was something intense, and too big for a ship of this size. But Isabella sure looked focused on that vengeance. "I can understand being not seen for your talents, but for your gender. As if being a woman made you physically unable to hold any kind of weapon and void of any kind of brain" she huffed, perfectly understanding the feeling.

She followed the other girl's second serving, her eyes later turning from the jar to the other girl's eyes. "They are actually quite good skills to have around, I guess. More useful than cooking, even if it's also more common in this world" she joked. "It was something I wanted to learn before, but never really had the time. I ended up having far more knowledge about communication and business. Not really useful in front of the sea or a sword" she shrugged.

"All skills come in handy at least once in life, those who take the time to learn new skills are more prepared against the problems that may show up along the way, the way of life is unrpredictable" she commented, with every sip of wine her spansh accent became more and more noticeale. "I for example would like to learn some cooking" she confessed a bit embarrassed but before the scottish could even reply two men passed next t the,, talking so lound the females could hear clearly despite of the music.

"Shit, I bet all my money to the fat man"
"Well, the China man was a surprise to be honest"
"Yeah the china man was crazy, or smart, he really used the head"
"Yeah but I'm sure he got some bones broken too"

"China man?" Isablla asked Bridget, there were no many asians around Nassau, then she suddenly squeaked "T-The man on our crew, the one with funny clothes!" She could not remember the man's name but she was sure they were talking about him, after all how many china men could be on Nassau at the same time?

"Hurry!" She stood up, placed some coin on the table as payment and left the tavern with the cook "If what they said is right and the match is already over then I'm sure he must be looking for someone to treat his wounds, right?" she asked as Bridget.
Once again the girls were surrounded by a crowd, not very sure where to go

His words didn’t seem to deter Gen in any way, after all, how could she see being in the ship of such a ruthless band of people freedom? Well, for starters, she has actually met other people. She can speak any language she wants, buy what she wants, what she needs, she isn’t locked in a pitch black cellar for over 18 hours in the day, not forced to do something unimportant.
Freedom now is what she makes it. She could dive into the sea one day, let her world grow dark, and wouldn’t that be freeing as well?

But Genevieve only hums, looking into the shop before entering, leaning in the doorway, holding the door open. She could tell he was finished with the conversation, and she didn’t mind not delving into her past, so she only nods, “I suppose your are probably right,” she hums before shifting to look around in the store. She didn’t give him something to look for for a moment until she reiterates the list she needs in her mind. “I need some medical thread, maybe a few bandages if you could?” She asks Kenji softly before turning to look for bandages first. She figured that giving him something surgeons use often as well would be simple.

As she looks around the ship, the wooden floor creaking each step, chatter from outside filling her ears as she thinks.
Genevieve supposed there was another reason she joined the crew. One she obviously wouldn’t share. Not yet. Not here.
It was simple though. Her parents have no chance in finding her if she never stayed in one place. And if she were in a crew such as this, they certainly wouldn’t try to take her back.

She, got only a brief moment, recalls the sorrowful look in Kenjis eyes a minute ago. What was it for? What happened to him? She sighs, scolding herself internally. It’s not her business and she sure as hell didn’t want to pry open something she wasn’t apart of.

'Medical thread and bandages' It was clear to him that she didn't trust him with anything beyond the blatantly obvious, keeping the request painfully simple. But it was fair enough, he had given her no reason to think otherwise. Without saying a word, Kenji just gives her a slow nod and hobbles off down past a shelf, eyes musing over its wares. Finally he picks up a packet of sterile bandages and turns them over with a faint frown, letting the merchant see.

"Hm… these aren’t sealed as tightly as I’d expect. In my country, a patient’s family would take this as a sign of disrespect. We treat supplies as a reflection of the care we give — and the honour of the healer. My friend here? This will make her look like she is not serious."
It was clear to Genevieve that Kenji was suddenly vastly exaggerating his oriental accent and mannerisms.

Continuing on, leaning in with a quiet, regretful tone. "Now, if I return with supplies like this and tell my people I paid full price? They will think I don’t value her skill… or their health. That would shame both of us and misfortune would follow us all... You do not want that do you?"

He straightens, giving a thin smile. "So… perhaps you help me save some face, and I’ll tell everyone you are the only merchant in the city worth trusting with a healer’s honour."

He pulls a silken cloth from his pocket, clean compared to everything else around, neat lines marking an exotic character on it.

"And for that." He nods to the supplies Genevieve was picking up."I'll even add in this." He lays down the fabric carefully and neatly unfurls it. Treating it with the utmost dignity and respect. "From the artisans of Kyoto… one of a kind. The Emperor himself wears such silk. This symbol keeps away malevolent spirits." He looks around the merchant like he can see something the man cannot. Nodding knowingly. "You must have it. It will fix your fortune. Some spirits blame the doctor, some blame the seller of supplies." He gives a small shrug like it was all a minor frivolity.

"Hang it up with the symbol on display and not only will it cleanse your shop, but my people will know that this is a good place to shop." He clasps both his hands together and gives a deep bow to the shop keeper. Sealing the trade without giving the man much say.

He tried to hurry Genevieve, who hadn't even needed to touch her own coins, out of the shop before the merchant could change his mind. Leaving him at the counter examining the cloth and looking around for evil spirits.

Genevieve honestly didn’t know what to expect when walking into the shop with Kenji. She thought that she would get the supplies, pay and leave.
Then she hears him speak. And it sure as hell wasn’t what he usually sounded like. Or acted like. What the fuck.

Slowly, very slowly, Gen moves her eyes in his direction before her head follows, her mouth presses in a thin line and her eyes a bit wide.
What was he doing? Well she guessed it was obvious, but there is no way in hell that would work.

She doesn’t say anything though, looking practically like a deer in headlights as she watches the shopkeeper try and fail to get words out, unsure what to say or do, definitely not wanting to make it worse for him.

Then, before she could blink, she feels Kenji ushering her from the shop, looking back at the now concerned merchant. They walk for a moment, the items still in her hand before she looks up to him. “That…does that work often?” She asks in calm bewilderment.

Bridget smiled at that response. It was fun to see the other girl slip over to a stronger accent, signalling that the wine was surely getting to affect her. She took a careful sip of her still full mug, trying to hide her amusement. This could be fun. "Oh, you just have to ask. I wouldn't mind some help when on the ship" she said "but good luck getting some free time there.... Before she could finish, two loud men passed next to the girls.

She wasn't really minding what they said, until she heard about the China man and Isabella reacted. She didn't know if that was usual in Nassau, but apparently it wasn't. "Oh, bugger" she muttered, already standing up. "How the hell did he get into trouble so soon?"

In a few seconds, both girls were moving outside the tavern and searching for their crewmate. Luckily, her mind wasn't obscured by the wine yet, and she was able to think fast. Looking back at the day, she remembered something. "Wait, wait" she stopped the other girl, trying to guess where to go "When we left, I'm pretty sure I heard him say that he was going to buy supplies with the doctor. They left the ship after us and, if he was at the match, they couldn't have bought the medical supplies yet, right? We were quite fast buying and we were barely able to drink some wine before we heard that" she reasoned.

Finally getting to the idea, she looked to the market again. "If they didn't have time to buy the supplies, they must be getting there. So not really a doctor, but a medical shop. Do you know where to find that?" she asked the other girl, looking around as if trying to find an answer

Isabella's mind was spining due to the wine but what Bridget said sure was reasonable "Ah..." She tried to get her ideas straight as she fixed her hair "...Yeah I think I know where they might be...". Now the spaniard walked more calmly, she had a vague idea of where to go. The fresh aire helped her sober up a bit faster as they walked.

It didn't take long before they reached the apothecary and just a few steps from it Isabella saw a man with strange clothes, no doubt it was Kenji "China man!" She squeaked and held Bridget by the hand, then rushed towards the asian man who was in company of the doctor. "Good Lord we finally find you! We heard you got into a fight!" She yelled at the him, still a a bit dizzy by the alchohol and the sudden run, it was a bad combinaation

"It only works on those who are foolish, ignorant, superstitious and guilty." He replies matter-of-factly, the hints of a small smile growing on his lips. "So yes, it works more often than not."

---

Kenji was taken aback and caught of guard by the sudden appearance and questions of two of his crew mates, at least one of which seemed to be a little on the inebriated side.

"I am not from China." Kenji scowled softly.
"And neither was my father."

His words were sharp and he glares at the two women only for but a moment before turning his gaze back to his path and the bustling street ahead.

Clearly looking like a man who had just been in a fight, bruised swollen cheek and the smudge of dry blood on the side of his face where he had been wiping it away, he let out a defeated sigh.

"News it seems, travels faster than the sea breeze. There was a bit of a misunderstanding. One that was settled with communication, -physical communication."

Hands still holding the supplies he continued his slow staggered walk back towards the ship.

"A sword kept sheathed is still a sword... But some men just need to see it drawn to believe it is there."
He adds to no one in particular, an after thought spoken aloud.

Genevieve finds herself genuinely amused at his answer, although she could have suspected as much. Given the type of people around here, she would be willing to bet that any shop keeper within a 30 mile radius would have fallen for Kenjis small con.
“I-“

She finds herself cut off as she hears someone yell “China man!” In a very familiar voice. At this she turns, seeing two women from the ship whose names, among many…many others, Genevieve has neglected to learn. She’ll learn if they come for healing, if not, she is tired and her memory sucks, so…there’s that.
Gen watches as they come over and mention the fight.
Fuck that’s right, she still needs to get Kenji bandaged up. And definitely disinfect where that brutes tooth had hit, damn, she really needs to…

Genevieve’s thought branches off into a million segments, like rivers, gears turning as she goes on a tangent in her mind.
The world was interesting, certainly more exciting than back home, although that was like comparing the taste of ale to the taste of mint tea. There was hardly a comparison.

She didn’t notice that they started walking again, or that Kenji began talking again until the last half of his afterthought, a strange moment to be drawn back down to earth, “Hm? Oh, yes…” she hesitates before thinking of what she managed to hear, “See what drawn?” She asks, looking back up to him for a moment, her eyes wide as if they were how she heard things and she was attempting to understand better with them.
