The Williams household + the added family were on their way to celebrate Christmas each one going on their own way. The foster parents and their biological children (7-year-old Jasper and 16-year-old Jaida) were going to spend Christmas in Vancouver in some sort of Skiing resort. Christopher (14 years) was going to visit his family in Seattle and Bren was going to Second Horizons.

It was always a full blown chaos. Were everyone in the car? Was everything packed? And still someone always forgot something. They had already driven once back to home, since Jasper had forgotten his teddy bear he couldn't sleep without. As chaotic as it was, it was also a lot of fun. Bren never got to go on trips with her real parents. This made her feel welcomed and like she was actually part of the family.

Brenda's foster mother was already checking passports and all the children were talking at the same time. The car was filled with cheerful tones. Bren laughed a little. She was in a happy mood and she couldn't wait to be at Second Horizons again this year. She kept coming back year after year. She was excited to meet her fellow camp mates and experience all the different activities the camp had to offer.

Brenda was the first one to leave the car. They had arrived at Second Horizons. She took her bag and left the car. At the same time her foster father left the car as well. "Bren, do you need help with your luggage?" Brenda nodded as the two of them got closer to the car trunk. "I can take my bag and skiis, if you could take my suitcase?" She asked in a questioning tone.

They had arrived a bit too early. However it didn't bother the redhead since she had time to leave her stuff and she could pick the best bunk from her cabin. Brenda left her skis outside and took the suitcase from her foster parent's hands. "Bye then" She had a faint smile on her lips. "Have fun! See you again after Christmas!"

Some of the beds were already taken, so Brenda just left her stuff in a pile on top of one of the free beds. . "Do I need my phone..." She mumbled by herself and took her phone away from the handbag. She quickly checked the clock and put the phone in her pocket. It was soon time to gather at the camp’s center area. Bren hurried to the ground floor and noticed a familiar face. Jax Payne, one of the blue campers. Has she been there for long? If so, Bren didn’t notice her before.

Jax seemed to be in the middle of something, but Bren decided to ask her anyways: "I’m going to the camp’s center area, or north pole, or what the hell it is called in winter time. Anyways… Do you want to come with me?"

► How many years have you attended Second Horizons?

I've been there once in summer time and twice in winter time. This will be my fourth year.

► What team color would you like? Do you think you'll get it?

In the past I've been put into two different cabins: blue cabin and red cabin. I have a gut feeling I will be put to blue this time.

► Is this your choice to attend? If not, what can we do to accommodate you?

Yes and no. I like to be here but I don't really have a say in whether I want to come here or not.

► Any allergies, disabilities, or special circumstances we should be aware of?

I'm deaf. Well I'm not completely deaf, I have a hearing aid and I can hear better with it. However I still have issues hearing for example when many people are speaking at the same time. I also suffer from tinnitus - it's related to my hearing problems.

► Do you have experience with any winter sports? Would you like lessons?

I do have experience. I have been practising biathlon since I was 14-year-old. I know I won't be able to do that in Second horizons but at least I can skii. I'm not interested in any other wintersport so no lessons for me.

► What are you looking forward to?

Winter sports, well skiing, to be exact. Oh, also meeting old pals I won't otherwise see.

► What are you not looking forward to?

Explaining my deafness for new people: it's bothersome. I guess I should write a docs document and send it to anyone who has questions.

► Tell us a little bit about yourself:

I'm hardworking and competitive. Succeeding in life is important for me. I want to show to others that I will be able to make my dreams come true. I work hard but I also know how to have fun and facing new experiences is important for me. Some say I'm too competitive: I really hate losing and I lose my nerves completely whenever that happens. I'm a bit hotheaded.

My imago is very important to me. I don't want to seem like a person who only makes decisions based on her feelings. I'm more than that. I rather use my common sense to make decisions. I would say I'm more practical than creative. If my friend is struggling with something, I tend to help by offering resolutions rather than giving empathy. I try to be as calm as possible and I'm afraid of losing control of myself. I never cry and seem like an emotionless bitch. However I do have emotions, I just don't let them show.

I'm like a ticking time bomb, anything can happen when my bottled up emotions go wild. I'm secretly a hopeless romantic. I believe there is a soulmate for everyone. I dream about finding my own pretty princess and marrying her. That doesn't mean I'm always searching for her. Currently I'm just fine having fun and not getting attached to anyone.

She has one medium sized suitcase and a small crossover bag that barely fits her phone and coin purse. The most surprising thing she has packed are two pairs of skis (+ pair of ski boots for each). She couldn't decide which ones to take with her.

• When Bren doesn't want to listen to someone, she will just turn off her hearing aid and pretend as if she's listening.
• Bren is one of those people who eats their advent calendar at once.
• Even though Bren can speak english, she tends to sign what she is saying at the same time. It makes communicating easier for her.

► Brief history:

Brenda Myung was born in Bellingham as an only child for a middle aged couple of Korean heritage. Her parents were both over forty and not planning on getting any children at all. They didn't want to bring a baby to their current life situation. Despite all, they decided to keep the perfect little baby girl. Brenda's mother was deaf from birth, and Brenda being deaf too wasn't a tragedy but a disappointment.

Her both parents were work narcomans, which meant they were rarely home. Hard work also meant hard fun for Brenda's parents. And they would öften get drunk after work. It teached Bren to become independent at a young age. She took care of her studies and their household. She did most of the cleaning and cooking. She didn't really have time for hobbies or friends. It was a lonely life.

When Brenda was around fourteen, her parent's drinking habits became worse. It was not safe for her to be at home anymore. She was taken to custody and luckily her foster family lived in the same area. Brenda only realized what she had missed about her childhood, when she joined the family. She was finally able to live a normal life of a teenage girl.

Bren's foster parents were into winter olympics. Her foster father had a background of being a pro at biathlon. Once he took Bren with him to the practise and that was when she fell in love with the sport. Brenda started to practise biathlon regularly in hopes of becoming a pro herself. Biathlon wasn't the only good thing that came from being part of the family. Bren made new friends and got a feeling of security. However deep in her heart she knows she's not as important to her foster parents as their own children.

- Brenda's hobby is learning new languages and Duolingo is one of her most used apps. Languages she handles are american sign language, english, korean and german. Currently she's learning some danish.
- Bren's dream is to become a pro at biathlon. Her contingency plan is to become a language interpreter.
- Brenda is an absolutist. She doesn't smoke nor use weed or alcohol. She's afraid of losing control of herself and she thinks being under the influence of intoxicants will affect that.
- Bren is somewhat active on instagram and twitter. Her handle, @brenduh, is the same in both. Twitter Bren uses mostly for reading comments but also letting her steam off by quarreling with random people. On instagram she posts mostly selfies and clips from biathlon practises.

► How many years have you attended Second Horizons?

I went there last year and it was fun enough so I decided come to back.

► What team color would you like? Do you think you'll get it?

I don't really care. I was put into pink last year, it was chaotic, but in a fun way. I wouldn't mind if I ended up in pink cabin again this year.

► Is this your choice to attend? If not, what can we do to accommodate you?

I made the choice to come here. I mean I would be put here anyways. But yeah...

► Any allergies, disabilities, or special circumstances we should be aware of?

Nah I don’t have allergies or anything like that. Tho I have a hard time differing red from green, meaning I have red-green colorblindness.

► Do you have experience with any winter sports? Would you like lessons?

I took a couple lessons last year, but other than that I have no experience. Lessons would be cool.

► What are you looking forward to?

I have massive middle child syndrome and I just hope I get noticed by someone. Oh. Was that too personal? I guess I’m looking forward to meeting cute girls.

► What are you not looking forward to?

The secret santa event. I don't want to spend my money on some random person.

I rather hang out with people and let them know me that way than telling my whole biography when asked. Oh. I really need to do this? Fine. I will tell something about myself.

I’m not the most mature person available and I can’t make serious decisions. For real: I’m like a big baby in the body of a teenage boy. Tho babies probably don't consume as much alcohol as I do… Anyways I even collect toys. Wait. Not that kind of toys! I meant old vintage action figurines and porcelain clown dolls and other stuff like that. Though I like to experience new things, so I guess I’m open to that too. My motto in life is that “You need to try everything except your own family member, or you haven’t truly lived”.

I like the company of others and I'm not picky about people. I can get along with many types of people. I have a very large and mixed friend group. However not just anyone's company will do. I'm not annoyingly talkative or a silent pussy, who can't defend himself. What is the word you use to describe a person who is neither introvert or extrovert? An ambivert? I guess I'm like that. I like to socialize but I need my own time as well.

I tend to take the role of a clown. I'm playful and don't take myself, or anything else, too seriously. I like pranks and tend to tease people I like. I want to have fun any way possible, sometimes with other's behalf. I don't handle anyones bullshit and say out loud what I think. I do as I wish and don't know when to give up. I like when things go my way. Stubborn, is perhaps the right word here. Or maybe spoiled. Again I don’t really know.

Shortly all the essentials. Got his vodka bottle confiscated last year, so he tried to be more sneaky this year. He decided to hide his booze on a Pringles can. He added a food bag filled with booze in the bottom – weighs less than bottles – and stacked a few Pringles on top. He also has ten 4cl Jägermeister bottles hidden all around his luggages.

► Quirks:

• Kayden is not from a particularly poor family, but he's still super stingy and exact about how he spends his money.
• Kayden loves physical contact whether it's hugs or kisses and he tends to be clingy and puppy like when in love.
• Kayden favors colorful clothing and most of the time the colors don't match at all. It’s unknown whether it’s on purpose or because of his colorblindness.

► Likes/Dislikes:
✔ Children. Surprisingly Kayden gets well along with children and he’s used to babysitting his younger siblings.
✔ Thrift stores. He loves thrifting and is often able to find unique items for a cheap price.

► Brief history:

Kayden was born in this tiny town deep in Texas. He was born to a middle aged couple as a middle child. He has a bunch of sisters and brothers. Two older siblings: Daniella (four years older) and a Danny brother (two years older) and three little siblings: Kayla (three years younger), Donna (five years younger), Kendall (seven years younger) and Dylan (11 years younger). Despite being a large family. Kayden’s parents are quite wealthy. They own a fast food chain and a motel. The family lives on top of the motel and the oldest children have to help with the business.

Kayden’s life has been a regular one with it’s ups and downs. Kayden’s family is christian and they would go to church every sunday. Kayden himself doesn’t know whether he believes in anything but he often helped out the local christian youth worker. He would help out in the christian family club and attend different camps as a counselor, since he got along well with kids and it was easy money.

Kayden was a personality that couldn’t get unnoticed. He made his all to get noticed by his parents, which often resulted in others noticing him too. Growing up he wasn’t the most masculine guy. Not in a sense where he would dress in feminine clothes or use makeup. He just had feminine hobbies (such as collecting dolls) and he had a lot of female friends. He would often get called a gay and sometimes guys in school tried to beat him up. He provoking them with things like sending flying kisses didn’t help at all.

Hailsham Institute, more well known as Hailsham Boarding school, was founded in the late 1960’s. The founder Larry Evans wanted to offer a more humane school to students, who wouldn’t normally face an opportunity like that. Originally Hailsham institute was meant for teens, but since it became so popular, another institute was created for younger children. Many Students of Hailsham have originally been in that other institute and moved to Hailsham after getting older. Hailsham Boarding school is located in the beautiful british countryside and it specialises in creativity and a good etiquette. Hailsham institute is an old looking manor, surrounded by pretty scenery: breathtakingly beautiful flower fields and a big lake. It has a lot to offer to the students. Besides regular subjects the institute offers lots of creative and sporty activities. It even has a horse farm and students are allowed to ride. Hailsham Institute is known as this idyllic school that has a lot to offer. However there’s very little information about what happens to students after graduating. And if you happen to ask someone about Hailsham, you will face an anxious person with no answers.

First year (age: 16) ✿ Out of all grades first year is the most challenging year for most students. You have to get accustomed to a completely new place away from your family. It’s especially difficult for those who are on good terms with their families, since the school forbiddens from using modern technology such as mobile phones. It can be hard to get contact with the outer world. Something to look forward to is the cocktail party which will be arranged in the first school week. It’s mainly done for the first grades in order to welcome them, but other students can also take part.

Second year (age 17) ✿ Second grade is the most relaxed year. You don’t need to worry about getting accustomed to new life or worry about the future. However second year isn’t all about chilling: student’s of this grade need to still study and they will get more etiquette classes. Something to look forward to in second year is the ‘Oldie’s dance’. It’s similar to prom and the meaning of it is to celebrate becoming the oldest ones in school. The student’s will receive dance lessons and they will need to perform to the other students. Before the final performance the students will get a three-course dinner and student’s often arrange an afterwards party by themselves. The afterwards party usually involves partying and alcohol, teachers turn their blind eye to it.

Third year (age 18) ✿ If first year was the most difficult and second year most chill, is the third year something between those two. Third graders have less studying and lessons than the other grades. However they have to worry about the future. The real meaning of Hailsham and it’s secrets will be revealed one by one for them. It can be overwhelming to the students. Something to look forward to is the Third grade gala. It may sound fancy but it’s actually a silly way of celebrating the last year/leave from the school. The gala will take a whole day. Third graders get to decorate (read: mess up and do pranks) the whole school. The students of third year get to dress up in costumes and throw candy at other students. At the end of the day the actual gala will be held. THe third year got to plan the whole event. Usually the gala includes silly but slightly mean spirited prizes (for example the bodybuilder of the year prize could be given to someone not so sporty), fun games and challenges and the humiliation of teachers (not anything too serious: for example a teacher would be challenged to a quiz about their own students or a small competition between teachers).

Student counselors (age 18) ✿ Every grade will have a pair of student counselors. Student counselors are students that are decided by teachers to become counselors. They are usually dependable and good at school. They will help other students and take care of small tasks from teachers. Student counselors will become teachers at the school after graduating. What isn’t known by all is the fact that they will have different future ahead them than regular students.

Hailsham: boarding school rp with dystopian undertones

So I got an idea for a boarding school themed rp and wanted to check if anyone would be interested in it. It is heavily inspired by Kazuo Ishiguro's book Never let me go. I wouldn't recommend reading further, if you haven't finished the book/want to read it. This may contain spoilers.

For now I'm just going to write about the plot, but if people are interested I will update this topic/create the rp. I'm also searching for a co-mod, if I end up creating this rp.

Plot
The story is set in Britain in an alternative reality, which is close to our world, except science is more advanced. The story is about a boarding school, which is completely closed from the outer world. For example students can't leave the school, they can't use modern technology and they don't get news from outerworld.

In some aspects Hailsham seems like a normal boarding school: the students are teached about common school subjects and they get to experience regular childhood/teenagehood.

However the students aren't real children/teens. In fact they are clones who were created to donate organs to others, and after their donations they will die young. That's something that will be revealed to the students when they are older.

The life of a Hailsham student can be sorted for three parts. One the time in boarding school, where they will learn skills and prepare them for the future. Two the time in cottages, away from their teachers. The purpose of cottages is to keep the students together and get them used to the outer world. And third: their time as a carer (people who take care of the donors and whose own time as a donor is going to happen later) or a donor.

Our story/this rp is going to focus on the time in the boarding school, but if people are interested we can branch out and also write about the time in cottages for example.

Brenda's mother was deaf from birth, and Brenda being deaf too wasn't a tragedy but a disappointment.

Her both parents were work narcomans, which meant they were rarely home. Hard work also meant hard fun for Brenda's parents. And they would öften get drunk after work. It teached Bren to become independent at a young age. She took care of her studies and their household. She did most of the cleaning and cooking. She didn't really have time for hobbies or friends. It was a lonely life.

When Brenda was around fourteen, her parent's drinking habits became worse. It was not safe for her to be at home anymore. She was taken to custody and luckily her foster family lived in the same area. Brenda only realized what she had missed about her childhood, when she joined the family. She was finally able to live a normal life of a teenage girl.

Bren's foster parents were into winter olympics. Her foster father had a background of being a pro at biathlon. Once he took Bren with him to the practise and that was when she fell in love with the sport. Brenda started to practise biathlon regularly in hopes of becoming a pro herself. Biathlon wasn't the only good thing that came from being part of the family. Bren made new friends and got a feeling of security. However deep in her heart she knows she's not as important to her foster parents as their own children.

► Extra information:
- Brenda's hobby is learning new languages and Duolingo is one of her most used apps. Languages she handles are american sign language, english, korean and german. Currently she's learning some danish.
- Bren's dream is to become a pro at biathlon. Her contingency plan is to become a language interpreter.

► How many years have you attended Second Horizons?

I went there last year and it was fun enough so I decided come to back.

► What team color would you like? Do you think you'll get it?

I don't really care. I was put into pink last year, it was chaotic, but in a fun way. I wouldn't mind if I ended up in pink cabin again this year.

► Is this your choice to attend? If not, what can we do to accommodate you?

I made the choice to come here. I mean I would be put here anyways. But yeah...

► Any allergies, disabilities, or special circumstances we should be aware of?

Nah I don’t have allergies or anything like that. Tho I have a hard time differing red from green, meaning I have red-green colorblindness.

► Do you have experience with any winter sports? Would you like lessons?

I took a couple lessons last year, but other than that I have no experience. Lessons would be cool.

► What are you looking forward to?

I have massive middle child syndrome and I just hope I get noticed by someone. Oh. Was that too personal? I guess I’m looking forward to meeting cute girls.

The secret santa event. I don't want to spend my money on some random person.

► Tell us a little bit about yourself:

I rather hang out with people and let them know me that way than telling my whole biography when asked. Oh. I really need to do this? Fine. I will tell something about myself.

I’m not the most mature person available and I can’t make serious decisions. For real: I’m like a big baby in the body of a teenage boy. Tho babies probably don't consume as much alcohol as I do… Anyways I even collect toys. Wait. Not that kind of toys! I meant old vintage action figurines and porcelain clown dolls and other stuff like that. Though I like to experience new things, so I guess I’m open to that too. My motto in life is that “You need to try everything except your own family member, or you haven’t truly lived”.

I like the company of others and I'm not picky about people. I can get along with many types of people. I have a very large and mixed friend group. However not just anyone's company will do. I'm not annoyingly talkative or a silent pussy, who can't defend himself. What is the word you use to describe a person who is neither introvert or extrovert? An ambivert? I guess I'm like that. I like to socialize but I need my own time as well.

I tend to take the role of a clown. I'm playful and don't take myself, or anything else, too seriously. I like pranks and tend to tease people I like. I want to have fun any way possible, sometimes with other's behalf. I don't handle anyones bullshit and say out loud what I think. I do as I wish and don't know when to give up. I like when things go my way. Stubborn, is perhaps the right word here. Or maybe spoiled. Again I don’t really know.

Shortly all the essentials. Got his vodka bottle confiscated last year, so he tried to be more sneaky this year. He decided to hide his booze on a Pringles can. He added a food bag filled with booze in the bottom – weighs less than bottles – and stacked a few Pringles on top. He also has ten 4cl Jägermeister bottles hidden all around his luggages.

• Kayden is not from a particularly poor family, but he's still super stingy and exact about how he spends his money.
• Kayden loves physical contact whether it's hugs or kisses and he tends to be clingy and puppy like when in love.
• Kayden favors colorful clothing and most of the time the colors don't match at all. It’s unknown whether it’s on purpose or because of his colorblindness.

► Brief history:

Kayden was born in this tiny town deep in Texas. He was born to a middle aged couple as a middle child. He has a bunch of sisters and brothers. Two older siblings: Daniella (four years older) and a Danny brother (two years older) and three little siblings: Kayla (three years younger), Donna (five years younger), Kendall (seven years younger) and Dylan (11 years younger). Despite being a large family. Kayden’s parents are quite wealthy. They own a fast food chain and a motel. The family lives on top of the motel and the oldest children have to help with the business.

Kayden’s life has been a regular one with it’s ups and downs. Kayden’s family is christian and they would go to church every sunday. Kayden himself doesn’t know whether he believes in anything but he often helped out the local christian youth worker. He would help out in the christian family club and attend different camps as a counselor, since he got along well with kids and it was easy money.

Kayden was a personality that couldn’t get unnoticed. He made his all to get noticed by his parents, which often resulted in others noticing him too. Growing up he wasn’t the most masculine guy. Not in a sense where he would dress in feminine clothes or use makeup. He just had feminine hobbies (such as collecting dolls) and he had a lot of female friends. He would often get called a gay and sometimes guys in school tried to beat him up. He provoking them with things like sending flying kisses didn’t help at all.

History:

Lennon was born into an upper class bat family. The family lived in a small faraway city, where they were one of the richest families. All in the family were artistic: Lennon’s mother was a ballerina who owned her own dance school. Her father on the other hand was a well known opera violinist. The parents hoped Lennon would become this cute dancing or singing princess. Well she didn’t end up growing as her parents wanted. They often have quarrels about Lennon’s appearance. However she took after her father and started to play music: cello. She also pursued an interest in acting, her dream is to be part of a big musical. While growing up her parents were always strict about things like not dating anyone out of their own species. The parents were mostly associated with other amphibians and were suspicious about other types of people. That changed once the family Moved to New York, where she for the first time met all kinds of people.
