Just posted in the IC! I left it open ended for anyone to pick up.
Military grade NanoMass is one of the most tightly controlled substances in the galaxy. NanoMass in general is tightly controlled, but there’s only so much one can do with the civilian grade stuff, due to the baseline coding limitations in each individual nanite. But a few cubic centimeters of unrestricted military grade grey gloop can turn a basement lab into a fission bomb factory. Understandably, military grade NanoMass can’t just be shipped unsecured on any old civilian transport craft. It certainly isn’t allowed to buy a seat and walk around the cabin. And that is why a medium sized secure crate ended up in the Infamous Alto’s cargo hold unopened. “Javelin Platform mk-1” was printed in big letters on the side, with it’s shipping number below. The crate was indeed listed on the Infamous Alto’s cargo manifest, and it had been loaded without any problems. The shipping instructions specified it was to be opened once the Alto was under way, but their busy schedule meant that nobody had gotten around to doing that yet. A light tapping began emanating from the cargo crate, echoing around the cargo hold. It went quiet for a minute, then resumed, louder. The tapping grew more insistent, finally becoming a loud knocking sound, but there was still no response. The crate went silent again. Suddenly, a shining chrome blade shot out of the side of the crate, quickly slicing through the secure clasps. The blade widened into a wedge, and slowly pushed open the crate’s lid. A large blob of chrome liquid crawled out of the crate and down onto the floor with a light plop. The blob then quickly began to twist and turn, rising upwards into a column. Arms sprouted from the mass silver, and the base of the column split into legs. The top pinched off to form a head, and the middle adopted the shape of a human torso. Then the details started to appear; fingers, chin, nose, feet. In seconds, the blob had transformed into a well defined silver human female. After a few more seconds, sections of silver started to change colour and shift into clothing, and before long a young woman opened her eyes. “That’s better,” Javelin said as she stretched her arms. “Terribly rude of them to leave a lady locked in a box.” She turned around and gave her crate a critical look, then retrieved a small case from the bottom. Without any further delay, Javelin opened the cargo bay door and wandered down the ship’s corridors until she found a person. “Hello good chap,” she said jovially, “might I speak to the Captain?”
So, idea: Javelin had to ship herself as secure cargo due to government restrictions on NanoMass, so she's actually listed as cargo on the Infamous Alto's manifest, instead of crew. They loaded a box that said "Javelin mk-1 platform" and assumed it was a new weapon/sensor component.
Cool cool cool! I figure Javelin is either aboard the Howling Sun, which could work since she's technically military. She could also be disguised as cargo on the Infamous Alto. I'll think about it and start on a post. Oh also fixed the images in my CS.
Alright, went ahead and put together a character application. Let me know what you think @ShiningSector Name: Javelin/Much Ado About Nothing (MAAN) Age: 530 Gender: Personell form: Female Actual: N/A Race: Hephaeton Physical Description: Variable
Personality: Much Ado About Nothing (or MAAN) is an oddly jovial and lighthearted AI construct. It is intensely curious about more or less everything, and has engaged in a number of professions over the years. MAAN is fond of jokes, especially pun based humour. It’s curiosity tends to override it’s social interactions subroutines, causing MAAN to sometimes come off as blunt or impolite. MAAN is also enthusiastically pro-Solarion and pro-Organic. The Javelin platform’s own personality is largely similar to that of the larger MAAN construct, though it has been somewhat altered. Javelin is programmed with an enhanced socio-emotional organic interaction subroutine of MAAN’s own design; she is capable of understanding nearly 97% of euphemisms, jokes, allegories, and figures of speech. Javelin also displays the correct emotional response in 95% of situations. As part of her construction contract, Javelin is incapable of harming organics except in self defence or at the discretion of a pertinent commanding officer. Enhancements: Javelin is constructed entirely of military grade NanoMass, and is therefore an extremely adaptable platform. The NanoMass’s basic programming is to maintain a small cybernetic storage device which contains the operations software and personality subroutines. The operations software is then capable of directing the NanoMass into a wide variety of other forms. To preserve memory, only a small number of complex structures are programmed; the personnel form, the combat form, and schematics for two types of weapon systems. Simpler shapes and modifications can easily be made on the fly. Skills: While MAAN is an extremely sophisticated AI construct with a vast array of skills and expertise, there is no way for the Javelin platform to store the entirety of MAAN at once. She is instead programmed with skills and expertise believed to be relevant to the mission at hand, though with a good connection to the extranet, she is capable of swapping out skills and memories with the MAAN construct in cyberspace. The programmed skills include: Tactics and Strategy Military History Swordsmanship and Marksmanship Diplomacy Xenolinguistics Xenoanthropology Psychology and Xenopsychology Equipment: While Javelin’s NanoMass is capable of creating a wide variety of shapes and forms, only three complex ones are stored by default, to conserve memory space. Additional schematics can be stored if Javelin is willing to make room by deleting other information. Personnel form: Javelin’s superficially human appearance. The personnel form was programmed with great attention to detail: the skin and hair look and feel real, the eyes really move and blink, the chest rises and falls while the mouth and nose make breathing noises. However, for optimal operation, internal temperature is maintained quite a bit cooler than real humans. Plasma Beam Weapon system: Energy weapons are Javelin’s preferred weapon systems, since ammo-based weapons would deplete her own mass. Javelin’s NanoMass is capable of forming a high powered plasma beam weapon; usually in one or both arms. EDIF Defence System: Javelin’s NanoMass is also capable of generating a personnel EDIF system, comparable to those found in most military NPV’s. Combat form: Not specifically another schematic, but rather a modification of Javelin’s personnel form. The resource intensive human-like features are abandoned, and the NanoMass reverts to its natural colour. The outer layers configure into high density armor, which can further harden to withstand impacts. The combat form is generally useful, as it permits Javelin to devote more computing power to response times and tactics. NanoMass: As well as her more complex schematics, Javelin’s pure NanoMass construction is capable of generating an almost infinite variety of shapes. Giving them texture and colour takes more time and resources, so most of the time Javelin leaves any additional shapes with the default colour and texture of NanoMass. This may mean literal sword-arms for close combat, or lockpicks for breaking and entering, or assuming the shape and colour of a wall for concealment. Bio: MAAN was first created by a group of 3 other Hephaetons at the University of Weishaupt on Orlese, a core world of the Solarian League. MAAN’s “parents” were a local waste management system AI, a theoretical physics simulator AI, and a young combat android on shore leave. The newly assembled AI drifted around Cyberspace for a time, soaking up knowledge and learning from it’s “parents” and peers. After reading the collected works of Shakespeare from the archives on old Earth, the AI chose the name Much Ado About Nothing for itself, and assumed control of its first android platform some 52 years after it was created. Since then, MAAN has spent its years exploring both cyberspace and the real world. MAAN holds over 30 degrees from various universities, and has experimented with a number of professions over the years. During the Interstellar War, MAAN enlisted with the ATC armed forces, though its dislike of violence caused MAAN to not operate any combat platforms. Instead, MAAN served as a support AI with the ATC fleets in a variety of roles; as a missile defense system, a fleet fire control officer, and eventually becoming a very senior logistical management AI, coordinating supply chains and personnel management for dozens of fleets. When the war ended, MAAN went into semi-retirement, and spent a great deal of time exploring the newly allied cultures of the Bel’Kian Concordance. For the past several decades, MAAN has been making itself quite rich as a software developer, creating everything from social interaction subroutines for other AI’s to military C&C software. The Javelin platform is MAAN’s latest and most advanced mobile platform. The large amount of military grade NanoMass required for her required a great deal of negotiation with Solarian League authorities. Ultimately they agreed to authorize her construction, partially in thanks for MAAN’s services during the war, but with several stipulations. MAAN had to foot the bill for her construction, and the restrictions on harming organics were hard-coded into the NanoMass. Additionally, Javelin is technically considered an ATC armed forces asset on detached duty. MAAN brought Javelin online approximately three months ago, and promptly volunteered her for the Expeditionary Task Force. (Heavily inspired by the t-1000 from Terminator 2 ;). Let me know if there are any problems, I’m happy to make changes.)
Are you still accepting characters? This kind of thing is right up my alley. I've read all the OOC lore information and been reading the IC posts.
Humanoid aliens are just the easiest to RP. Any idea when we might start this up?
Oh just a placeholder really. They're not all that mysterious, just another faction the Ashtar are fighting a war with in their home territory.
Name: Lith Diae Age: 427 Gender: Male Species: Ashtar Appearance: Lith shares the characteristic features of all Ashtar; a narrow, angular face, prominent cheekbones, and skin composed of small, soft, faintly blue coloured scales. His jaw and chin are considerably broader than most Ashtar, and he sports a thick, bristling mustache, which is unusual indeed. His black hair is kept short, almost a military style buzz cut. He’s quite broad at the shoulders, tall, and well muscled. Personality: Lith is rather grave and serious, even for an Ashtar. His sense of humour is almost non existent, and he tends to be quite literal minded. On the upside, while many of his people are arrogant and superior, Lith is quite down to earth and level headed. He’s cool under fire, but sometimes a little...undiplomatic, or impolite. Skills, Talents, and Powers: Personally, Lith is highly trained in many military disciplines. An accomplished strategist with several centuries of experience as a fleet commander under his belt, Lith is also a pretty good swordsman. He is also well educated in xeno-anthropology. As an Ashtar, Lith has access to the knowledge, thoughts, and memories of his entire species via their Union, a form of psychic collective mind. It should be noted that knowledge has its limitations: Lith might theoretically know how to perform open heart surgery, but his unpracticed hands are no substitute for a practiced doctor. All Ashtar have very well developed ESP abilities, or psionics as they call them. This includes an array of telepathic and telekinetic abilities, all defined by an elaborate set of rules and principles. Lith is a moderately accomplished psintegrat. He is capable enough at shielding his own mind or attacking another’s, attempting to break down their defences and gain access to their thoughts. He can easily move objects with his mind, and can perform basic molecular manipulation to generate blasts of fire or lightning. Equipment: Lith usually doesn’t carry very much on his person. For combat situations, he did bring his battle armor. Fairly standard issue, Lith’s battle armor is a powered exoskeleton suit with a variety of built in systems. Psyblades are installed on both wrists for hand to hand combat, and a standard issue carbine rifle clamps on to the back. The armor operates in a number of extreme environments, from open space to deep oceans. Thrusters on the feet and at the elbows provide limited flight capabilities, while personal forcefields augment its defensive strength. The suit has a sophisticate sensor suite, and active camouflage to avoid detection. While not exactly equipment, Lith is in charge of the Ashtar delegation to the Archimedes. The delegation consists of a squad of 20 PsyOps commandos, a small team of 8 scientists and diplomats, along with 5 high-tech attack corvettes and their small crews to augment the Archimede’s offensive capabilities. Brief Backstory: While Lith is a comparatively young Ashtar-only halfway through his second incarnation-he has proven to be a capable fleet officer. He was promoted to Commodore upon returning to the service in his second incarnation, and has spent the last two hundred years in command of a General Service Cruiser squadron. GSC’s are used by the Ashtar for a wide range of exploratory, diplomatic, and combat roles, though the ongoing conflict with the Sakturi has seen GSC’s being pulled into combat more often than not. While Ashtar relations with the Star Sea Alliance are very new and distinctly arms-length, the launch of the Archimedes was deemed to important to ignore. Lith was selected to lead the Ashtar delegation to the Alliance and help with the Archimedes’ mission, due to his studies in xeno anthropology and his years of service in GSCs. Species Name: Ashtar Mishri Home Planet: Ayrie, a massive global metropolis far from Earth and the Milky Way. Appearance: The Ashtar are tall, angular reptilian humanoids. While visually quite similar to humans, their skin is actually composed of scales with a distinctly blue tint. Ashtar are generally taller but thinner than humans, with much sharer facial features and pointed ears. Their eyes have large irises and very little white. Brief History: The Ashtar are an older species who have been puttering around the stars for several thousand years. Unfortunately for them, the precursors seem to have not left behind any True Relics anywhere near their territory, meaning the Ashtar had to reach space the hard way. For this reason, they are a little touchy-some might say jealous-when they interact with humans and other members of the Star Sea Alliance, those lucky species which had space travel practically handed to them on a silver platter. The Ashtar allegedly discovered Earth and humanity several centuries ago, but only initiated contact when humanity became a spacefaring species. They are not a formal member of the Star Sea Alliance, but are considered a friendly associate, although “friendly” might not be the right word. While amiable enough, the Ashtar tend to be distant, cold, and close mouthed. The Alliance knows very little about them. Apparently, they have a distant multi-galactic empire and are embroiled in a terrible war with an unknown enemy. Notable General Information: Apart from the aforementioned pointy-blueness of their appearance, Ashtar tend to be cold and formal. Many of them are insuferably arrogant, considering themselves vastly superior to the backwater buffoons of the Alliance. Another distinct feature of the Ashtar is their psychic Union; a vest telepathic linkage of minds, through which all thoughts, feelings, and memories are shared. When an Ashtar’s body dies, their mind returns to the Union, where they may elect to be born again into a new body, or artificially inserted into a cloned body.
I'd be up for this or v2.
