Does that have to mean it is sacrificial? It could appear to be a profound way that what is at the end is someone or something that has a very narcissistic personality. Feelings of grandeur is what I see this as, from my experience.

We got here through some gruff stone entrance, then it slowly squeezes us until we get to huge stairs, which start to smooth out and get more walkable until finally we're here. Seems symbolic of some kind of rise to a higher calling or something, doesn't it?
