New Zealand's population in 1980, according to Google, was 3,113,000. If New Zealand's military is 10% of that, then it's total military strength is 311,300. That is if New Zealand is, for whatever reason, pushing its military numbers to the max. If it's not (as is more likely), then it's probably less than that. But that depends on how much of the population you want in the military.

Take New Zealand's population (or an estimate of the population around 1980), and find out how much of that total is 10%. That (however many 10% is) is the biggest your military could realistically be. Given New Zealand is not exactly a military powerhouse, though, and that they aren't seriously threatened by anyone, it's likely their total military force is somewhere less than 10%.

I'm not going to bother quoting all the shit two pages back, but.. @TheEvanCat I don't want to join the Army. I sort of want to join the Marines, but I'll admit that's sort of faded away as I've grown older. I still sort of want to do it, but a part of me doesn't, for a variety of reasons. That said, I was about to enlist, like.. literally I was one car trip away from it, but then I stopped the process altogether and decided I wasn't sure. And here I am wondering if I should go back. I'm thinking of doing it though, just because I honestly have no fuckin' idea what to do with my life.

New Zealand is okay as long as you understand its limits. We have had problems with people picking their hometowns/nations and trying to make great powers out of them (my noob-self included, back when I first joined PoW). It was so bad we started calling them Hometown Super-powers. So yeah, New Zealand is fine as long as you play it realistically and understand that you're probably not going to carve out an empire. If you play it well, and for long enough, you may do something great with it, but New Zealand is not exactly the kind of nation to go around conquering shit or something.
