Hi there! This seems like an amazing premise, and I would love to jump in with this.
Awesome! :D
But first, question. In the Pokemon Mechanics, it says that stats have no real bearing in combat. Does that mean that Stat boosting moves (Swords Dance, Nasty Plot, etc.) and stat debuff moves (Baby-doll eyes, Screech, etc.) are completely useless in combat?
Stat boosting moves will improve the Pokemon's physical/mental state to make them more effective in battle. Hone Claws literally sharpens their claws (raising Atk.) and perhaps makes them focus (raising Acc.). Baby-Doll Eyes can demean the opponent, making them not want to attack with as much strength against that who performed the maneuver. They still boost and debuff, but there will need to be a reason why, a cause and effect, that should be described when performed.
Also, in the same area, it is said that Pokemon can only use moves of their type. Does that mean I can't have a Hyper Beam Butterfree? (Butterfree is Bug/Flying, Hyper Beam is a normal type move. No type relation)
Moves must align with the Pokemon’s type and species...
You must be able to argue that a Butterfree can perform a beam of pure energy. But most Normal-type moves are relatively universal to all Pokemon. Also, the use of Dark-type moves by Fighting or Ghost-types can occur. The use of Psychic-type moves by Ghost-types can occur (and vice-versa). Ground-types can learn Rock-type moves (and vice-versa).
But they might not. It's up to you and of what the Pokemon is capable. It's also up to logic dictating that a certain maneuver performed by a certain Pokemon is possible given it's natural typing and the species of a Pokemon (Drapion could learn Pin-missle, Bisharp could learn X-Scissor, etc.)
@Prints Avoid I tend to imagine Pokemon battles of characters I've created (currently the main one I've been developing for this RP). I imagine how he interacts with his family and some of the trials I'd like him to go through throughout the RP.
But, something I've PM'd @Cynder already, it might also help to think of developing something I haven't created or merely touched on. I've created a PM with Loony and Aphe about Rangers so that that might be further developed (since they're both planning or have interest in having characters be Rangers). Also, discussing possibilities between other players or the GM usually helps. But you've gotta have a character, first. And that's what Cynder's working on, now.
@Aphelion@Prints Avoid Although, there'd have to be a way for it to work without electricity. Perhaps it's on the Gauntlet and those have a solar-charged battery (not specified, but might as well ;)).
@AphelionHey, don't worry about it. ^^ Allow it to flow as it will. ;)
And yes, any kind of description/image/combination may be used. The CS doesn't require appearance, but that's always half the fun of the character (and kind of a given xP). I have added images of concepts for my characters on my old CS page: roleplayerguild.com/posts/3076798 Just an example of how I don't give a sh!t how you do it. >D
EDIT: And weapons are fine with me. Just note that those types of weapons would definitely be a social more. Though, I'm sure you were already planning to play it out like that. xP
@CynderHey, don't worry about it. ^^ (whoa...deja vu...) I'm patient. I'm just glad everyone's at least relatively active even in the IntChk. I mean, it's almost been two weeks and it definitely seems that those who've been keeping up are relatively dedicated to this RP regardless of the speed it's going. ;)
So, in waiting for people to get their sh!t together continue developing characters, I've added a time skip that could occur in the RP (potential for another chapter or volume of the RP). A lot will probably happen in this RP, if things play out as I think they will. ^^ Lots of death and heartbreak :D
Aries had killed Masquerain with an allied Heatran. Forrest killed Aries and the Heatran with his hunting knife as punishment. Gemini followed up by killing the rest of his Pokemon, except Medicham, who'd teleported him away. Mitchell and Caleb had both died combating Team Zodiac, and he was being targeted as a threat. Pisces plans were moving forward, even with a member of his own organization having been killed. Medicham persuaded him to lay low before they targeted the rest of his family.
But Forrest knew they were only acting in defense and for the sake of preservation. He was sure they wouldn't attack his wife and children if they didn't show aggression toward them. So he returned to his cabin north of Route 102 and Petalburg to tell them he'd retreat for a time for their sake and his.
His first sanctuary was Mt. Pyre, Medicham's old home. They meditated for a long time. Forrest took to fasting and was soon losing weight due to the overwhelming grief he felt for those he'd lost. His sleep was filled with nightmares and his sanity was being tested by a Vulpix feeding off his negativity, or was she testing him? Medicham tried to remove this threat to her trainer, but the little fox had other intentions.
Vulpix noted the sense of resolve and strength within Forrest and wished to help his cause. Soon after, Elizabeth, his eldest daughter, showed arrived having been searching for her father. Her face when she saw his pitiful state set him back into training himself, his daughter, and his new Pokemon.
They remained on Mt. Pyre for about a year before Capricorn spotted them. There was a conflict of philosophy that his daughter and Medicham pleaded wouldn't become physical. Medicham had to teleport them all away from the scene when it escalated.
They appeared at Shoal Cave. Medicham was exhausted and Elizabeth chastised her father for his lack of control over his own emotions. Though she was only 9, Forrest took her young words to heart. They took refuge in Shoal Cave and ran into Jerrek, Forrest's eldest son, training deep within the cave. It was icy and frozen due to the lack of heat from the surface, and Jerrek was developing his own endurance and strength. Forrest found a new objective upon which to focus.
Another year passed and Forrest had acquired the loyalty of a Snorunt that fed on Vulpix's inherent negativity and Forrest's own depression. He realized he would have a new team with which to defeat Team Zodiac, which also included his son and daughter.
Scorpio discovered them in the Cave, and before Forrest could prove his altered demeanor, they were teleported, once more, by Medicham. They appeared in Jubilife City, where Prof. Linden performed her researched. Jerrek approached the Professor and pleaded their case and requested her help. All she could do was present them with one of each of the region's starters. She even sent Turtwig back to Hoenn for Forrest's youngest son, Rowan. She then pointed them to the Pokemon League where the Elite Four might be able to aid them and their region.
As they traveled, both Vulpix and Snorunt evolved into Ninetales and Froslass, respectively. Elizabeth caught a Shinx and Jerrek a Croagunk. They continued to train on the road, building up their strength and skills to successfully confront Team Zodiac once more.
The Sinnoh Region's Elite Four proved to be of little help, themselves. They weren't willing to submit their people to a threat so great an volatile that they could lose their lives just as easily. He tried to convince them that they were going to destroy the world, but they didn't believe them. Five years they traveled through Sinnoh only to have the native's fears and speculations prevent them from providing aid for their own region.
Medicham had stored enough energy to then transport them to Cherrygrove City, Forrest's birthplace. They made their way to their extended family, living more comfortably than when in Sinnoh. Still, they trained rigorously and Forrest could see both Jerrek and Elizabeth developing physicalities that would take on Team Zodiac and hopefully rid their home of its threat. Forrest and some of his cousins traveled with him and his children to Mt. Silver and approach the Elite Four in the hopes that they would be of more help than Sinnoh.
Both those from Johto and Kanto refused any more assistance than the entire deployment of their own Pokemon Ranger Stations. They understood well the threat to the world, but would remain in their homes in order to protect their people should the threat spread any wider.
They went through the same hardships in Unova and Kalos. The language barriers here were tough, but they soon found guides to help them navigate and interpret for them in the foreign lands. The three Johnsons continued to develop their teams and train harder than the natives believed necessary or even healthy.
It was twelve years since they'd left Shoal Cave in Hoenn. Jerrek was a powerful 24 year old and Elizabeth was an athletic 22 year old. Waking up with them every morning evoked powerful emotions of pride and grace in Forrest and began to restore his mental health. But Team Zodiac would not get away with the horrors they'd fallen upon Hoenn.
The reunion with his other two children and wife was of immense joy and covered with tears. It was clear to Forrest that Jerrek was just like himself, and Shelynn, Forrest's youngest daughter, was just like her mother, Jeanne. Elizabeth had Forrest's stature but her mother's graceful appearance. Rowan seemed the opposite, taking on his mother's stature but his father's strength and wildness. Forrest chuckled and realized the Johnson's would bring Team Zodiac down themselves, if no one else.

Ninetales [Bad Dreams] Fire/Ghost/Psychic 3'8" 50.8 lbs. As a Vulpix, she tormented Forrest with terrible dreams and restless sleep. She tested his apparent resolve against an enemy that tortured him. It was to test the man's mental endurance. This proved to her that Forrest was much more capable than other Humans she'd encountered before. Her own past and current situation weren't the best and she'd learned to fight through torture to dissuade others from harassing her. She uses every ability at her disposal totally incapacitate any foe. She relies on Hypnosis, Dream Eater, and Nightmare. With her own ability of Bad Dreams, making them fall asleep is usually enough to defeat an opponent. Should they stir awake before she can defeat them, they are usually paranoid and anxious to such a degree that they can no longer continue. She's quite vindictive but impossibly loyal to her other Party members.
Houndoom [Intimidate] Dark/Fire 4'11 | 95.1 lbs As a Houndour, he could sense Vulpix's manipulation of the otherworldly and unseen. There was quite the show of ability between the two, and Vulpix couldn't seem to affect the small dog. The two have been rivals since. Houndoom is the powerhouse of Forrest's new team. His Attack and Special Attack are usually quite overwhelming, though his Speed has suffered greatly because of this. His Defenses aren't notable, but they're not lacking by the standards of most Houndoom. He is very much a hunter and is often on the prowl for prey (Forrest's enemies).
Field Moves: Nasty Plot | Leer | Howl | Roar | Bite | Odor Sleuth | Embargo Default Moves: Sunny Day | Midnight | Ember | Smog | Taunt | Pursuit | Thief | Will-o-Wisp | Payback | Snarl | Rage | Spite | Snatch | Super Fang Battle Moves: Crunch | Beat Up | Inferno | Flame Burst | Flame Charge | Fire Fang | Sucker Punch | Flamethrower | Night Slash | Foul Play | Feint Attack Occasional Moves: Fire Spin | Punishment | Fire Blast | Dark Pulse | Shadow Ball | Incinerate | Heat Wave Sacrificial Moves: Overheat
Medicham [Telepathy] Fighting/Psychic 4'00"|60 lbs. This was the last Pokemon Forrest obtained. He found a Meditite under some rubble while two Pokemon Trainers were battling nearby. Flygon and Breloom helped save her and she has a stronger connection with them than the others. Medicham is a surveyor more than anything. Her role is to communicate to her party-mates the current situation at large. Her Psychic and Fighting capabilities aren't proficient enough to cover or cross a field. When she is forced to fight, she takes the defensive and has unbelievable endurance, but her maneuvers are less damaging than the average Medicham.
Froslass [Snow Cloak] Ice/Ghost 4'1" | 49.9 lbs Before leaving for Sinnoh, Forrest walked though Shoal Cave and found a little Snorunt following him and his children around. Ninetales immediately noted the little one's hateful potential and knew it could be honed into a powerful ally. Froslass operates much like Ninetales, harnessing the negativity in others to take advantage of their emotions and exploit weaknesses in their spirit and resolve. She is as fierce as Houndoom and vindictive as Ninetales. When the three of them work together, there is often terror exuding from all sides of the battle.
Bisharp [Pressure] Dark/Steel 5'10" | 213.1 lbs. Bisharp was found training on his own. Forrest and his children set up camp nearby and the Pawniard took interest in their own training methods. Jerrek's Tyrogue wished to spar with him and lost quickly. Forrest took pity for the creature and taught it ways in which to strengthen its own defenses and impair its foes to make them easier targets. Bisharp is Forrest's main sparring partner and the two train tirelessly together. Bisharp's Defense and Attack are almost unparalleled. He usually performs Metal Sounds and Scary Face so he can take any advantage away that the opponent might have.
Field Moves: Scratch | Leer | Torment | Scary Face | Metal Sound | Iron Defense | Swords Dance | Hone Claws Default Moves: Metal Burst | Fury Cutter | Feint Attack | Metal Claw | Slash | Payback | Night Slash | Knock Off | Pursuit Battle Moves: Iron Head | X-Scissor | Assurance | Sucker Punch | Foul Play Occasional Moves: Guillotine | Dark Pulse
Aegislash [Stance Change] Steel/Ghost 5'11" | 130.0 lbs. As a little Honedge, it could sense the potential of Forrest as he and his children traveled through Kalos. He immediately rushed toward Forrest and equipped himself to Forrest. They have been inseparable since. Aegislash is the most predictable and has the shallowest move pool of all his Pokemon. However, Forrest developed Aegislash's Stance Change Ability to be able to attack from either Forme. Most importantly, his relationship with Forrest allows Forrest to wield him as if an inanimate weapon. Those who've never experienced an Aegislash before can be taken by surprise when he enhances Forrest's own physical power and skill.
Field Moves: King's Shield Default Moves: Fury Cutter | Pursuit | Autotomize | Shadow Sneak | Iron Defense | Swords Dance | Metal Sound Battle Moves: Slash | Night Slash | Shield Bash | Heavy Slam | Shadow Ball | Shadow Slice Occasional Moves: Sacred Sword | Phantom Force | Gyro Ball Sacrificial Moves: Flash Cannon
