I allow and encourage people to make stuff up for the gods/culture. (I like world building)

Though there are things I should mention.

  • Vivari (the Great Mother) is mentioned in nearly all cultures, though this doesn't mean she is worshipped. So she would be mentioned in Drakken religious writing. But she is painted as a betrayer and unloving mother. (So Drakkens don't like her and they will never worship her)
  • Drakken's have three main gods that are worshipped above the others, Norric is the next popular god. But you are free to make up house gods/Goddesses if you wish.
  • it would be interesting to see the names of the three Gem god/Goddesses changed, but I see a problem with it.
    • As Vivari is known as a betrayer and unloving mother to her son's (who later birthed/made the Drakken), there needs to be a reason for her being known as such.
    • in Drakken writing it's said that she gave birth to two females and one male children and listed their elements (and she loved/favoured them more). Mind you it doesn't mention their names.
    • so as soon as the Drakkens found out that the Gems worship Vivari and her other three children, they wouldn't think of worshipping them.

I hoped that helped a bit. But as I said you are free to make up other minor gods and things in the culture of either Gem or Drakken. :)

Okay, awesome! I love world/culture building :3333

Anyway, since Vivari is universally known I guess it wouldn't make much sense to change anything about how the Drakken perceive her. They know of her in their religion but don't worship her, and probably paint her in a villainous or demonic light (her name could even be a curse word or else used in curses). It's quite clear that Krenta, Sorrak, and Drun are Vivari's children though I'm sure Drakken lore makes them out to be victims of their cruel and hateful mother who treated them unfairly while she favored and spoiled Auram, Naia, and Pyrus.

Obviously the Drakken reject all the Gem gods as legitimate but since the Drakken are element-weilders just as the Gems surely they have gods to represent the elements.

Here's a few suggestions:

I have more in mind but I need to do laundry and also get to work on a post. This is just a rough outline.
Quick question while I'm thinking about the religion thing:

The OP mentions that, aside form the Drakken's three major gods, they've got some lesser ones too. I'm wondering if we're allowed to elaborate on that and in general wondering just how polytheistic the Drakken are (e.g. do they have personal "household" gods or is there only a set number of gods in their religion?).

EDIT

Actually…

Drakken culture adopts things like art and architecture from the countries they conquer, do they not? Would Raya and I be able to find any temples or shrines dedicated to our patron gods?

This could be true, just like how the Romans adopted the Greek gods and changed all their names, if the Drakken religion is flexible like that it's entirely possible they did adopt the Gemminian gods (probably a long time ago back when the peace treaty was first made, they probably don't even rememember) and so there are Drakken-named versions of Gem gods floating around.

Just a thought really, it would be interesting if that were the case.

Mommmmyyyyyy... Are you my mommy?

Technically those were nanogenes. Originally Eight was a character from a Star Trek fanfiction I was working on. As you can probably tell from the name he was a Borg drone that was freed from the collective and possessed all the technical specifications of every ship the Borg ever assimilated. When I adapted the character I still wanted him to have a vast knowledge of ships downloaded into his head and computer components making up parts of his body. Really I think the inspiration for it came from Stargate Atlantis where they repair Elizabeth Weir's body by having Replicator nanites replace the damaged cells in her brain. Since I wanted there to be data about ships in there too I sort of tacked on the idea that the nanites built part of the stations computer into his head. I suppose the answer would be no, though I do remember when I was writing it out the Doctor's line: "Couldn't tell what was gas mask and what was skull but they did there best." popping into my head so some of it may have come from there.

Ah, I might have gotten the reference if I was a Trekkie. I haven't seen a whole lot of Star Trek and most of what I have seen is 2nd gen. I mean I know who the Borg are and everything but by no means do I know every detail haha. I really like your concept though.

And how then does this apply to sentient balls of lightning? Or dare I suppose that Cy cannot communicate with Darren.

I wouldn't know having never read about an encounter between an Andalite and such a creature, so I guess that's on your end to figure out how Cy's physiology copes with the difference. Since he can communicate linguistically with other creatures I wouldn't think it would be an issue. How do the Valis communicate in their natural form?

Deraen followed the mercenaries to the briefing to hear the recommendations of procedure. He waited until the four from their party decided to take up a post on the Babylon IV, even as the bombing began just above their heads. In spite of the Captain's obvious weakness at least he'd had the sense to launch from a discreet location. Other than a few lightly-masked judgmental glances, the Andalite did not seem to be particularly worried. Now that the siege had begun, he was affirmed in the wiseness of his choice.

He waited until all designated crew were on board Babylon before turning back round and reboarding the Alamo. It was just as well, he would rather be within reach of his personal fighter in the event of a crisis, whether he ended up flying it into combat or not. In spite of himself he was excited at the prospect of a little danger. Deraen was not what you would call a risk-taker, but one does not become a fighter pilot by being a pacifist, and he preferred to take an active role in any sort of conflict. That's why you're an outlaw, the bittersweet thought floated through his head, That's why you're running around with this gang of misfits, shooting things for money. The more he thought about it the more he liked the idea. Up until recently he'd always thought of himself as a criminal, but his moral compass was more than a little off-point--it probably always had been--and he liked the word "outlaw" much better, as if he were beyond all authority. It must have been a human concept he'd picked up over the years, since humans had a funny habit of romanticizing certain illegal behavior. Still, he liked it.

Deraen decided to take up guard-duty on the Alamo, but made a stop at his ship in the hanger to outfit himself properly in the event they were boarded. Even so, while he was proud of the small arsenal of personal combat weapons he'd collected for himself, Deraen's favorite way to dispatch an enemy had always been the weapon he'd been born with. Namely, his tail blade. Andalite tail-fighting was really more a tradition than a serious practice these days, since modern warfare usually didn't call for ground troops and shredders were much more efficient, not to mention cleaner. Nonetheless, if Deraen had excelled at anything in his life it was tail-fighting, and there was nothing more satisfying than lopping off your enemy's head in one clean cut.

With this mindset he made for the bridge and took up a stance in the corridor just outside, blocking the way to the control room as well. The space was a bit narrow for his liking but if they were boarded he'd be able to see trespassers coming, since they would most likely attack the bridge in an attempt to take control. Pirates might disable the engines and weapons, or find other ways to cripple the Alamo, but in order to truly take the ship they'd have to go through one ornery Andalite. By no means was it the most important point though, if they lost engines, shields, or life support they'd probably lose the fight regardless of how well the bridge and was protected. Deraen projected his thought-speech ship wide to express this concern.

<Raptor Squad ought to dedicate a unit to guarding the Alamo's power centers in the event of boarders. The rest should either take up a gunner position or be ready to launch fighters.> His own fighter waited for him just a few decks below, but he only planned to make use of it if they lost control of the Alamo, and he doubted that would happen. With all this sorted out, there was nothing left to do but wait for take off.

Would his telepathy world on Eight? I sort of had this idea that Eight would be able to detect telepathic static wavelengths but because his brain is part computer he wouldn't be able to translate it into words.

That's actually a really fascinating concept, I hadn't thought about it. To reference the Animorphs series, Andalites were able to communicate without trouble to a race of highly advanced androids called the Chee, but their makeup is probably completely different than Eight's since the nanites that rebuilt him were of human construction (I assume, from reading his bio). I don't know the exact parts of the brain activated by thought-speech since K.A. Applegate never explained it, but I theorize that it works much like verbal communication, barring the actual verbalization, in that the speaker's telepathically projected message is received in the speech-centers of the brain and translated into words that the hearer can comprehend. Eight's ability to understand would be dependent on how much is left of the part of his brain that processes language.

However, given that intercom communication translates thought-speech into audio (this is canon in the books) I think it's safe to assume that Eight won't have any trouble understanding Deraen, unless the robotic and human parts of his brain conflict with translation.

On an unrelated note, I was going to comment on how similar Eight's healing/transformation was to the Doctor Who episode "The Empty Child" and how nanites reconstructed what they thought was a healthy human, though of course you've added your own twist with the computer integration, I was wondering if that's where you got your inspiration from.

Hey can the animorph blue centaur guy talk to humans without his telepathy?

He talks to humans and other species through telepathy and does not have any form of verbal communication if that's what you're asking, though he understands verbal communication. When it comes to messages over an intercom or other communication device the thought-speech is translated to audio by the machine and so is "heard" as audio.
