The horror poked a slimy appendage from the crevice startling the man on the horse. A black hook on the end of a bristly spear-like arm. Diodes and gears whirred and whizzed, encrusted into the flesh. The rider gawked and said nothing as seven more legs appeared, followed by a great hairy black mass of fangs and eyes. The head was augmented too-wires popped and sizzled along the horrors mechanic carapace...

Then it spoke.

"Give me the horse human, I am hungry and you are alone," it said in a coarse, trite voice. The words were fuzzy and analog, as if recorded centuries ago..

The man considered the horror. He knew they lived up here in the high wintry passes, had seen them in ancient charcoal sketches on cavern walls; heard Momma Nelly talk about them in a story or two. But the thing was beyond imagining, beyond a few spoken words in a dingy saloon. It was horror incarnate. But it was wrong about one thing-the man was armed.

The spider lunged and the horse bucked the man back. But the spell was already in his mind-the words spinning from his lips in no more than a whisper...

Blue flame crept from the mans fingers, even as he slammed into the ground, bolts of eldritch fire rifled across the air. The spider halted the assault on the horse as the spell struck it in the cephalothorax, right behind the eyes. Springs and gears flew from it's head all covered in green ichor.

The horse was screaming, kicking and spinning in the dirt road, foaming green death from curled lips. Two fang marks bled freely from its neck. It lay still suddenly.

The blue fire of the spell dissipated. The horror hissed and retreated further, but not before it stuck one long leg into the horses ribs and dragged it along with it, shimming its hairy black mass into the hole.

"Now you owe me a horse, monster," said the man wiping the dirt from his long black leather coat.

The spider crept further into the cave it had emerged from. "Come into the dark sorcerer," it said in a raspy voice. "See what I have for you down here."

"I am afeared of no dark, monster," said the man stalking towards it. Two pistols emerged from holsters, charged with eldritch flame. He ran after the son-of-a-bitch firing blue bolts of death..

Please go to the OOC...
@Rhymer I'm not knowledgeable on James Bonds, but it's a more serious, badass tone. Not 100% serious, but more of a Halo Reach tone set between Now and 2050, so more on the modern side, but we can skirt the edge of sci-fi/futuristic.

ah ok. I'm not familiar with Halo Reach :) but it sounds interesting. Will subscribe and keep interest.
Is this modern era? Whats the tone of the RP? Like goofy James Bond ala Roger Moore or badass James Bond like Daniel Craig?
Interested in continuing. I think I'll drop Eudaimonia to focus on the Dirty Deeds company and Tactics/Wander. Figure that would be more fun and interesting for the game and setting.

Tactics/Wander is still one of my favorites. Such a great idea
Great!
Interest has been expressed for this again. Setting theme and tone would remain the same. New Faction write-ups would be encouraged. With the help of @ArenaSnow and (whoever else was interested) organization, continuity and game progression would be more efficient. I'll be up front about my short-comings as a GM. I'm a tabletop gamer and this 'free-form' style of writing is different for me. With that said, Martian Front would be 'Open-Source' as in players are free to contribute to lore and story framework-I think the setting is absolutely solid and interesting. Also open-enrollment would be a thing (as suggested by ArenaSnow)

Ok. Begin interest check.

P.S> probably looking at a post-holiday start-up for me. That would give plenty of time for background lore and intial write-ups.
Hey everyone! Trying to make time for this. This summer has been really busy for me so far. I'm still around-would hope that this continues whether I'm around or not. If anyone wants to take over the GM role let me know. If not I will do my best to stay in touch but no promises. Some IRL things are keeping me busy..
A lot of things are left ambiguous on purpose, that way we can all share in the world-building aspect of the rp. If you have an idea for tech or backstory talk about it on ooc or shoot me a pm. The Luna wars happened but I don't have the details yet.
I've been incredibly busy with life problems at the moment (moving to London) and as such I've never been able to sit down to dedicate enough time to this. Sorry for the long silence, but until I can give this the time it needs I'm putting it on hiatus. If anyone is still interested I'll post again when I have free time again and see who still would like to continue. For now though, farewell and salutations; may we meet again soon.

Totally understand. Good luck!

Anyone want to carry on with this and flesh out a full Fantasy Setting for a NRP or traditional RP?
How's the climate/weather on Mars?

varied and ambiguous. Use the incomplete/low-tech terraforming however you wish.
