Well with the questions answered, it more or less confirmed the theory that this event was put in motion because of them at least to a degree. If it wasn’t them, it would have been others… Had the party not been present, Kosara was pretty sure this would have transpired too even if for different reasons and maybe a different person, but it boiled currently down to something was getting impatient that they weren’t dancing at their tunes. Now the white tielfing wasn’t quite in agreement with the ‘FUN’ for the bad guy and fear for the rest, it wasn’t quite fear she felt here, but she supposed the locals would be fearing it especially if the region had the issues with the Necromantic wars in the past. That said, this looked more and more like it had something to do with said wars… maybe remnants? Maybe it was a necromancer who got back to unlife for some reason or did they just lay low waiting for something? Too many questions and sadly not nearly enough sources to give answers. Kosara was really considering the need to go talk with any veterans or temples in the area. Veterans cause they might know what transpired towards the end of said wars in the area and temples because well… temple clerics were the usual people to deal with undead for the most part. They probably should be notified at least or maybe they’ve already noticed weirdness in the area…

She had a vague recollection that the major religion in the area was a harvest goddess. Not unusual for agricultural centers, but Kosara actually had NO idea if the clergy had anyone who focused on dealing with dangers in that case. Not like every cleric of every god was a martial powerhouse who wandered the world to destroy evils after all. In any case that was a task for tomorrow she supposed. They also needed to investigate the study more, this time properly without interruptions or sneaking.

While the others were discussing among the group and the hosts, Kosara kept making a hard thinking face as the skull kept floating besides her, until she ordered the unseen servant to place the skull onto the body and then float back to her. There was something they were missing, she was certain of it! A thread that made this all make sense! Alright maybe it was some twisted sense born from the mind of an evil nercomancer, but a sense nevertheless. Still she looked back at the others when the suggestion to go back to shelter was brought up.” Getting back in a warmer space would be great.” She nodded, but looked back at the skeletoombles.” I could burn the remains with sacred flames? It worked for the bodies in the burrow, it should work on him too.” The tiefling offered in the end as in theory some radient flames should be a good things to put in use.

“Indeed!” Kosara energetically replied to V’s statement about her good thinking about levitating the skull.” It’s not a clean skull to be handled simply.” She added, there was a certain degree of unfortunate possibilities that could lurk in the… fleshless flesh covered body. You never knew what weird magics might be involved, but on the plus side… hey at least it wasn’t a mummy. Kosara had it on good account that those guys were an absolute menace and pain to deal with! So you win some, you lose some!” In any case, this was sloppy work, either it was rushed or the one who did it wasn’t an expert… as for the skin… I guess it was done to make sure we recognize him. Maybe that’s the purpose to raise commotion and either force our hand or make us undesirables.”

Then V began her work as necromancing bard to commune with the dead! Marvelous ability, one that Kosara wasn’t quite sure why it wasn’t in far greater reaching use! Imagine the possibilities, discuss crimes with the victim as of now, or question executed criminals on stuff they were tight lipped during investigations! Possibly even closure for families who parted on bad terms! Let’s not even get into the possibilities for investigating the past! You could cast it on bodies long since dead and get answers of their times, cultures and struggles! Endless Necromancing possibilities! She was going to have to talk with V about that. Bards were a bit more cultural supposedly, even had schools! She had to ask if there were schools and archives of such activities!

It appears the mystery deepened, because there were some seriously weird things going on in this land and it was starting to get out of hand. Necromancy used like this in a place that was victim to the Necromantic wars? Yeah if this wasn’t a bad sign, she didn’t know what was. Maybe they should contact any temples in the area and ask if they knew of something happening? Clerics and paladins were usually ones to deal with this type of undeath situations. Maybe they should head to the closest temple tomorrow and at least try.” Well… I can only think of two possible right now, first would be what he heard. Anything he had heard during the time could be of immense value to track down the one who did it or at least narrow it down. The other would be where he was when he was attacked. Maybe we could find more clues in the area.” Was Kosara’s suggestions to the situation.

“That said, I also agree that we cannot leave it alone any longer, we need to figure out what sort of deal had been done and what the task was. If the bodies during the frost situation were a reminder, this could be a warning that it’s a lot more dangerous. What if next time it’s a coordinated attack en masse or they target a civilians?” Kosara said, tone dipping down to a slight suggestion of seriousness as she looked at V and then glanced Cecily and Lizbeth and back at V hoping the woman gets the clue in an attempt to be tactful and let the Bard do the Cecily interactions! Hey Kosara could learn too( maybe). They really needed to investigate what Mr. L’Rose had gotten involved with and his personal activities that were likely hidden in the study.

“This is just ew...” Kosara mumbled as she studied the remains that were left in the aftermath of Berry’s fight. There were a good deal of things that could be concluded from investigating and studying the remains. First of all...” This looks sloppy.” Kosara stated after a bit of staring at the body… if it could be called that anyways.” Bones are not clean, looks like a novice stripped it from the meat...” Well it was something as she looked at the grotesque… remains in front of her. This was indeed a damn big EW. She made a face, somebody lacked fashion sense… Then another thing caught her attention.” Hmmm this is proper thread...” Probably an unimportant detail, but a detail still. It could mean they could in theory track the thread… a thread this thick was probably specialized? Leatherworkers? Shoemakers? Or maybe the necromancer with fashion leanings brought their own…

Her head snapped towards the departing Laurent looking at him like he has grown a second head! Then her sock turned to innocent outrage!” HOPE YOU STUB YOUR TOES ON FURNITURE ALL THE TIME YOU BIG MEANY!” She cursed after him as loud as she could so to make sure he did hear her words!” Hmph!” She scuffed in indignation afterwards. She wondered what other curses she could throw at him, but sadly he was probably getting a bit far… Next time!

Listening to Berry, Kosara made a hard thinking face. Alright that was getting problematic. If what he was saying was correct it was connected to whichever task that the old man had agreed to… which apparently was also a task they were agreed to now.” We need to figure out the task fast… I’m suspecting that we should head back to the study room with Cecily this time and figure this out. This is now about danger to everybody involved.”

Her attention refocused to V who was expressing her desire to speak with the dead. Kosara’s eyes twinkled in excitement under the lights given out by her own clothing at the mention of this. As it had become obvious in the early days of their grouping, for whatever reason the white tiefling started to view the bard’s necromantic tendencies as a rather interesting venture! Between glorious ideas for self moving vehicles, mobile emergency snacks and of course conversing with the dead.” I will get it!” Kosara exclaimed heading off to where Berry pointed the head had popped off.

“Unseen Servant.” She cast the spell as the magic flowed and shaped into the invisible force to serve her will.” Pick the head and let’s go back!” Kosara merrily stated, totally not thinking about the fact that it would appear as if the head was floating by itself because you know… UNSEEN servant. When she did realize it she started giggling. The head was still big ew of course, but she pondered now if she could use this to prank people as she headed back with a floating head shortly behind her. What? She wasn’t picking up still fleshy tendrily sinew-y head while wearing her newest fanciest clothes!

For whatever reason the party’s concern for the safety of his own butt caused a certain mister with the hard to spell name of Laurent to be extremely offended! This in a way confused Kosara who looked at him in said confusion. The tiefling had no actual idea why he was so angry and mean as he stormed off… She thought about it, she really did. After a few moments of deliberation she had an answer.” He reminds me of Cavenfish.” She stated finally, frowning at the retreating man’s back.” Can I kick him?” She asked in the end. He reminded her of said constable with his meanieness and the fact that apparently he just couldn’t act in civil manner without getting angry at them… just like the now late constable.

Kosara’s face displayed a frown followed by a pout when Berry ushered them to follow him to check up on Laurent’s condition and while she’d do it and help the guy if he needed it, cause it was the right thing to do, she was also going to pout about it as hard as she could.” Fineeeeeeeeeeeeee… ” She said in voice completely lacking of enthusiasm.” Maybe he will be nicer after a few scares… maybe…” She added in an unconvinced quip. She didn’t hate the guy, not really… she just didn’t like his behavior, too much anger at them for no reason! And he really had no reason as far as Kosara was concerned or aware. Maybe he was just a mean person by default, but that wasn’t an excuse! Berry had been concerned and worried for his health after all!

Whichever the case was, Kosara hurried after Berry to find Laurent who may or may not be throwing up his insides over whatever it was that the dragonborn dealt with out in the darkness. Kosara had to note that knowing that there were things lurking out here, made the darkness around them kind of oppressing. It wasn’t anything huge about it, but the knowledge that evil lurked in the shadows. Well with the trademark Kosara train of thought she also concluded that dangers lurking beyond the light around you was a very adventurer things to be going on. Yes adventurers faced dangers in the darkness all the time, especially in dungeons. As far as Kosara know most dungeons and caverns didn’t have lighting… Well thinking about it, maybe some of them had, but she doubted it was all of them.

When they finally found the angry guy, he looked well enough. Kosara’s glowing form was throwing light around them fighting back the darkness. She peered in the surroundings just to make sure nothing was going to jump up at them, but so far all appeared.. well enough aside the thing that had caused Laurent to throw up and apparently the reason for Berry’s messed up state when they found the monk. The white tiefling then joined V in looking at the remains.” So… What happened here, Berry?” Kosara asked in some curiosity as she was investigating the scene, trying to spot anything that might be a clue or a lead.

“Huh, the more you know.” Kosara mused to herself after unsummoning the little rat. The adorable critter that for whatever reason was way more adorable than his more common cousins, stuffed himself with as much cheese as it could and when the magic took effect, whisking him away back to wherever he came from, whatever was rest simply fell on the ground. This meant that for whatever reason the magic that would move Chauncey across the world… or worlds, Kosara had no idea where the rat actually comes from, was arbitrary deciding that the cheese the rat stuffed in it’s mouth was alright to bring along, but the one it held in it’s lil paws wasn’t. A truly marvelous revelation that for lesser individual would crush their hopes for certain schenanigans. For Kosara it just meant she had to feed it well and perform more experiments later. What if she tied a tiny little ribbon on one of the paws? Would it teleport with Chauncey as if it’s considered part of him or would it be left behind like the cheese? Truly questions for the ages, one that must be extrapolated and experimented on.

Lizbeth’s question about Berry’s location was well timed and on point as she had barely uttered the sentence when the blue dragonborn’s voice filled the nightly air and he stumbled towards from the darkness. He was beat up! Who dared! Sneaky winter goblins?! Wait no… maybe it was the weird undead that for whatever reason seemed to be prowling the area. There was something seriously strange going.” There he is!” Kosara happily exclaimed as she got closer and studied the injuries on the Berry.” As well as things could be I guess...” She added, making a hard thinking face. In any case, her eyes drew back on Berry when he spoke of the guest. So there was indeed dangers abound, that wasn’t good.

While V was busy cleaning the wound on the dragonborn with honestly impressive elegance, Kosara was busy starring out into the darkness beyond her Light. The ability to throw light around and push back the darkness was a bit of a two edged sword in some ways. For example while you were in light darksight was hindered, but she liked light. She did grow up in a desert after all, one would be hard to survive in such an enviroment if you didn’t like the sun and while you had to seek shelter from it in the sands, she did like it. It made the sea of sand shine like gold sometimes.

Once the bard was done with the wound, Kosara was quickly next in line to practically slam into the Berry. Alright she didn’t slam at him, but she did bolt next to him with her unusual eagerness as her arm shot forward, golden motes of light gathering as she began applying the Celestial energies she channeled from her Grandpa into his injuries to heal them. When she took a deep breath and the golden motes vanished, she looked at his form and blinked.” Wow… those are some grave injuries if they still persist!”

“Don’t worry Chauncey. You can go back home in a bit then.” Kosara said in reassuring voice to the little rat as it began pawing the amulet that summoned it.” There’s some cheese in the other room! I will give you some before you go back first!” She told it with a smile. Hey they nonsense adventures in Avonshire with the ratmen wasn’t a reason to be angry at Chauncey now, was it? He was adorable and well behaved.

“Alright then, we’ve got a plan. Let’s go!” The pale white tiefling declared with a huge grin as she stormed out of the Study and to the tasting room. She kept at attention to make sure the door to the study was properly closed when they left it then she headed to the plates in the tasting room that held all the cheese and proceeded to find some good nice pieces of cheese and offered Chauncey the cheese.” Here, you can eat them while we are heading out, I will unsummon you once we are outside the celler. Not sure if the cheese I give you will go with you if I just unsummon you now.” She said with a smile as she kept one of her hands that had the cheese near the place she had squared Chauncey safely on her garments.

After making sure she was ready, she spotted the fact that V was already out the door and hurried after. She was the second to leave the room and had she been anyone else, she probably would have had to do a double take at the scene that had greeted her. As the situation stood, there was Kosara at the doorway gazing at the unknowable scene before her with barely a raised eyebrow as one of her hands held cheese to the rat she carried as she attempted to sneak out… badly, but when stealth was concerned, it was all a matter of perspective.

Kosara snuck/walked through the open area with the grace of a dancer and the sneaking ability of a white thiefing trying to hide on a dark background. Whichever the case, whomever saw her, wasn’t much of importance as she hurried after the bard until they were outside. She listened to V and nodded before looking down at Chauncey.” Alright, I’m going to unsummon you now, hold onto the cheese, but if it doesn’t come with you, I will summon you tomorrow if the danger has passed.” She told the rat and proceeded to unsummon it.

With Chauncey away, Kosara focused briefling, a spark of magic flickering.” Light!” She ordered her spell, pulling on the components pouch that never left her person. Moments later her top began shining in a bright sun-like light as she knew they had humans with them and seeing in the dark was always good thing. Even darkside had disadvantages after all.

Kosara’s curious conundrums and carefully carousal of curated curios weren’t as conclusive as she could have hoped for, but as a whole there were a few good points of information to be collected from the desk affair investigation. For one, the tiefling quite quickly realized that the entire desk was extremely well organized… one might say almost overly so. There was nary a thing out of place which in itself was a thing that was probably out of place. The tiefling dancer was quite convinced that something was off with the desk state of affairs, this organization was a bit too much to be entirely natural… except unless the old man was very obsessive about it, but if that was the case, the rest of the room and perhaps the entire Vineyard would have been perfectly organized. So no, in the end Kosara decided that the desk state of affairs was indeed unnatural and probably a clue to something grander in some form or capacity, but sadly she didn’t have an idea what it might be right now… except maybe the box. Her eyes also glanced over to where Chauncey was every now and then, making sure to keep an eye for potential dangers who might catch their snooping.

A quick superficial examination of the box that included a look over, a poke with the poke with the tip of her right shoe and an attempt to open it had led to a conclusive conclusion that the box was pretty locked.” Drat. Foiled by a lock.” She exclaimed, pouting at the realization that she couldn’t open it. Being locked, meant that it was probably holding something important and she had a feeling it was probably important, what with the desk’s unnatural state of organization. She for the briefest of moments really considered if getting the thing opened with force would be worth the hassle and was feeling the muscles tense underneath her skin.

Suddenly she caught the movement at the edge where she had seen the little rat. It was energetically moving it’s little paws to catch her attention! Somebody was approaching! The tiefling REALLY felt the desire to smash the box now mostly cause she had been so focused on the thing that she hadn’t paid attention enough! Did they have enough time to close the door to prevent people from realizing they were inside?! Kosara practically ran around the desk, ready to close the doors shut when she spotted V and froze when the woman spoke.” What?! What happened?” She asked, eyes going wide in shock! Berry was in trouble!? Why? How!?

As if the planes were conspiring against them, Annick turned out to be the one who was approaching and delivered even more bad news. Kosara just blinked at first, Kathryn was trying to stall? How did her REALLY good friend do it? The warrior wasn’t exactly the subtle type… maybe that’s why it was working? Hard to ignore a hammer to the face after all? The tiefling just took a breath, blinked and decided.” We go for Berry right away.” She stated and looked at V, nodding.” Chauncey, come here and let’s make sure you are secured.” She told the little critter as she picked him up and trying to secure him safely in her clothing since they were probably going to move fast and she didn’t want anything happening to it.

“Hopefully nothing happens to whatever clues are hidden here, but it can’t be helped. Berry’s important friend to us!” Kosara proclaimed with conviction.” Let’s go and help him before something even worse happens! He’s too shiny to be allowed to die!” And she was back to being Kosara.” The door can be locked again, yes? Hopefully that would be enough to preserve it for us to investigate at a later time again. Let’s go, V you can lead the way, yes?” She asked hopefully!

Storming inside the room was a thing of adventure and as soon as Kosara took her first steps into the mystery study room that apparently nobody bar the old mister L’Rose was ever in. Once on the inside there was a first moment of lull in the activity as Kosara halted, listening and waiting for anything to happen. Hey she expected various traps to trigger possibly! Who didn’t trap their secret hideouts! Well this wasn’t exactly ‘secret’ hideout… Hmm maybe she was expecting a bit too much on that front, but it still was possibly a major part of whatever mystery was going on in these lands as of late. If that letter they had received was anything to go by, maybe there was a clue around this chamber.

Now onto the topic of the room proper, it was a curious thing. Kosara noted the equal parts office, the various alcohol stocked up and the seemingly old historic objects placed around. Maybe a possible collection to pass the time. People were known to collect the most various of things that struck their fancy after all. For all she knew, there was somebody somewhere who was collecting weird books about rolling dice… or varied chess pieces! Who could really say what one might decide is worth collecting. Kosara herself didn’t collecting trinkets in, but she did like to write interesting things she would hear in her journals.

Of varied things that were scattered in the room, beckoning for one’s curiosity to compel them to explore, there were a few of greater note that drew Kosara’s attention. First was the big sarcophagus looking box that was giving off extremely suspicious vibes. After that was the black journal with the fine dirt and the trinket that was very likely of ritualistic nature there was even a magic wand looking object next to the earth circle. Finally there was a box next to the desk… So many things to explore.” Decisions, decisions…” Kosara mumbled to herself, eyes darting all around trying to decide where to go in the end in her explorations.

Then out of nowhere she had an idea on what to do first. She reached into her clothing pulling an amulet. An amulet she had nicked of Cavefish...ehhh… whatever his name was! Moving through the motions of it quickly until an adorable little rat was on her hand.” Hey Chauncy!” She greeted the little thing with a huge grin. Nonsense with humanoids rats aside, he was quite adorable and as something summoned via a figurine of wonderous power, he was very intelligent!” Could you keep an eye on the door for me and warn us if somebody’s coming?” She asked him.

In the meantime V had moved ahead to check out the journal. So in the end Kosara decided to poke around the desk. The sarcophagus thing she decided for later just in case it turned out to be an undead monstrocity of some kind. You never knew with how the locale was as of late. The tiefling had barely reached said desk when V stated her observations.” Really? Fascinating!” Kosara marveled at the unorthodox approach to jury-rigging a magical ritual. Before her attention returned to the desk, eyes occasionally moving to the box next to it, first thing’s first though! Investigate the desk and the varied documents upon it! At least something had to be of some note.

Kosara carefully looked over Lizbeth who was preparing a bit of the very aged Ziegelrote for them to taste. Made sense, it was something they weren’t producing anymore by the sound of it so they wouldn’t just let them randomly drink it like regular wine. It probably sold for pretty high coin if it was popular or good… or maybe just cause it was very well aged. Kosara wasn’t expert as established, but she knew that usually aged alcohol was better and that wine that was left to age could turn into vinegar… and on that chain of thought, she was wondering what she was pondering salads.

When they finally had a chance to taste it, Kosara’s first course of action was to make a face. Not a disgusted face or anything, but a face non the less. Like a kid that tasted something new and unfamiliar. It was pretty intense and it showed on her face with that almost theatrically overdone expression. Though eventually as she swirled it around her mouth a bit the expression moved to something more thoughtful. Finally she swallowed the tasteful she had tried and did a big nod.” I like it… more than the previous ones.” She concluded with a grin. It was a bit fruity yes, but not quite as smooth as the previous ones she had tried tonight and maybe that was the reason she liked it more and she was seriously considering if it would go very well with friend things like fried scorpions… or just regular friend crispy meats… cheeses.

After that the topic moved to the brandy barrels.” That’s quite the aged brandy.” Kosara quipped when she was given numbers.” 60 years huh… wonder if there are any people from that time still around that might be more familiar with the events of that time and what went down around the vineyard.” The pale tiefling wondered aloud, again making a thinking face. She recalled some of the brief history of the Rose River Vineyard and how with time they family had bought out the surrounding lands until it was what it was today. Which made her wonder if the place they found the barrels in was a part of the original L’Rose lands or later acquisition.” Hey Liz, was that part of the original L’Rose land or was it bought later? I seem to recall that the vineyard grew with time?” She asked again curious.

Her eyes rested on the girl as she then spoke and revealed that she knew something was up. Well it wasn’t exactly hard to figure out something off was happening between everything that had been transpiring in the last while since before the party even arrived in the area even. It seemed like one big conspiracy might be happening and there wasn’t quite enough information to get answers about it. They knew that were rats were involved and they had a powerful patron apparently. Kosara had no memory of that part of it though, but trusted her friends to believe it. Now weird undead as messengers, Liz’s grandpa apparently having gotten a deal of some kind that needed to be concluded… too many questions and not enough answers.” We will try to help!” Kosara smiled at the girl, noting how pale and sunken she looked suddenly.

“Thank you?” Kosara replied confusedly for a moment at Medician admittance that she had suspected the party to be involved in whatever was happening here. She supposed she could see it… maybe… sort of… if she squinted a bit. She was about to open her mouth and probably say something weird when the door lock clicked, halting her statement as her eyes moved from the woman onto the door itself. Ohh… OHHH… they had access now and curiosity was building up.” RIGHT! We die suddenly and with great prejudice if we let something happen to Liz!” Kosara instead merrily confirmed the older woman’s statement." Hopefully it doesn't get to that, lots of people would be sad."

Her eyes moved to V who offered her the honors of opening the door to the study. Now there were many things that got Kosara excited, but chief among them was… adventure! Opening a locked off door that led to probably mysteries? That was pure adventure story material right there so it all led to the pale tiefling almost visibly vibrating with excitement.” Gladly! Adventure!” She happily stated as she rushed the door with the speed of child on way too many sweet stuffs and opened the door with surprising grace for how much energy was contained in that action. Should she have considered possible traps? Maybe… But adventure and mystery!

As it turned out in the end… the merry tour led by Lizbeth was going to be a small affair! Not that Kosara minded, the white tiefling had the feeling that they were going to have a great time together! There was so much to be seen, heard, inquired, asked about and presumably given a taste! Not that Kosara had any intention to drink enough to get drunk mind you, but it all looked like it was going to be quite the merry time never the less! So she practically inhaled the last bits of foodstuffs on her plate as she put it away. She didn’t plan to carry it around with her no matter how much she enjoyed the fruits and the cheese.

Her attention focused properly on Liz when the girl told her about which would be the oldest produced drinks around here. The things they located from that buried workshop weren’t surprising of course. Those had to have been hanging there for a good while if the place and the bodies looked in that condition, not even counting the fact nobody around seemed to know it was even there, so that place must have not been seen since before Cecily married into the family… unless the woman was lying to them of course, but Kosara hoped that wasn’t the case. There were some serious suspicious things happening in the area though… seemingly necromancers and deals not withstanding. That bit of chaotic nonsense aside, her eyes locked onto the other old drink the younger woman mentioned that was apparently no longer being made for one reason or another.

“I’m a bit curious myself too!” Kosara chirped on the topic of the old booze that wasn’t made anymore. She wasn’t a wine appreciator like all the others around, but she liked to give new things a taste if nothing else. All these alcohols here made her think of what sorts of food they would go with and how she could use them to prepare interesting meals. Currently she had cheeses, wines and apples in mind funnily enough and no it wasn’t because those were the things she had just consumed nuhhuh. Alright she was also pondering that friend ankheg was likely to go extremely well with beer and more cheese. Additionally she was pondering the benefits of putting some fine meats to soak up in some of these wines overnight and the prepare them afterwards. Possibilities, possibilities…

“ I think something upbeat and happy would be nice.” Kosara gave her two coppers into the possible musical presentation by their own purple clad bard later and it shouldn’t a surprise she’d suggest happy things. It was Kosara after all, but back to the topic at hand…

“So talking about these barrels we found, anyone managed to figure out how relatively old those were?” The tiefling got curious.” Like maybe figured out the harvest or something?
