Jessica had to work today at "The Core", a small comic store in an unassuming part of town. "Hey boss, I'm clocking out. I got places to be!" A voice echoed from a small side office. "Alright kiddo, give em hell." It was Craig's usual response to Jessica's declaration of departure. Jess hopped into her car and took off to the Coven. Her car was nothing special, just a grey 2001 Ford Taurus. It got the job done. After a short drive she pulled in to the back of the casino.

Jess popped the trunk and got out, locking the doors behind her. She jogged to the trunk and pulled out a long bag that had a strap around it. It was about 3 feet long and very blocky looking. It looked a lot like a case you'd use for a small yard canopy. She slung the case over her back and slid the strap over her shoulder. Today Jess was sporting a grey t-shirt with D20 on it. The die showed the result "20" and under that, it said "Critical!". She had a pair of denim shorts on as well that only covered to about her mid thigh. Seriously, she knew Florida was a warm state, but she didn't expect a bad Indiana Summer day every day. It wasn't all bad though, as she did enjoy the sun and was quickly getting used to the heat.

She walked in after all the commotion died down. This casino was cool as hell, she was glad they picked it. She'd taken the opportunity to look around the entire inside and outside surrounding the casino when they first came here. "Yoooo!" she exclaimed as she walked into the even more trashed than usual main lobby. She sat at the table. Agatha seemed like she wanted to say something (5 bucks says she never gets it out.). More importantly, she heard Kayla's interjection as she came in. She turned to her, a smile on her face. "Like kicking some apparition ass business?" She was glad when the group could manage to actually decide to do something "witchy". She couldn't deny how much fun the beach was though. As a midwest girl, the ocean was quite the site to her.

Jess also noticed that not everyone had made it to the table yet, and Madison seemed especially unamused, she gave a quick nod to Madison after asking Kayla about her business. "Chin up Madison! Sounds like we might be doin' something." Emily and Elise seemed as tense as ever between each other. Jessy even felt a sensation that Emily actually had full intentions to attack.



Elise leaned back away from Babylon and felt very unsafe for a moment. Then Emily chided in with her bitchy tone, saying the usual cliche mean girl stock. Seriously, did she just watch a bunch of early 2000s rom-coms for her personality? Elise of course did not say that, or anything else. She was intimidated by that pair, and didn't doubt that Emily's threat was genuine. She turned her attention to Kayla instead, trying to play off that she had just decided to listen to Covenant business rather than look like the scared little mouse she was.

"Yeah, what kind of business?" She asked after Jess. She wasn't sure she'd be thrilled to hear this either, but it was at least 100 times better than talking to Emily. When it came to fighting Apparitions, Ellie wasn't really any good. She usually tagged along as a quick ride back to the Casino. Sometimes she was able to scope the area in question before they left too, but that was only if they were going somewhere she'd been.

Elise was taken aback by Quinn talking to her. That hadn't exactly happened before. "Of course it wasn't your fault. I... kind of knew your name. I know we haven't talked, but I listen. I also know that you like to work on cars. I can tell by the oil stains and the smell. Anyway, we should at least try to listen to what Kayla has to say, don't you think?" She didn't bother giving her own name, assuming Sin probably already knew it. It was nice to be talked to though. Well, by anyone other than Emily.

Unless she's fighting the world's weakest man (or she can take a punch) this probably should have knocked her out. Trust me. I'm a martial artist myself (and I'm big af lol) and I got socked by people waaaaaaaaay smaller than me and almost got knocked out. So, for the classes, yeah. That does make sense. She got interested in learning from both LARP and just all the movies and games she liked. I'll put in that she has taken fencing classes and english sword fighting classes. Also to add to her small bit of martial arts knowledge, she definitely took karate when she was younger lmao.

As for the punch, I guess she can take a punch? And also the guy just didn't know what he was doing. She was his first attempt at mugging.
The reason why she didn't just kick and run was a mix between adrenaline and a weird that likes anime too much lol. I can alter it a bit if you need me to though.

Elise was not all that surprised to find her advice being ignored. Though to be fair, she had no idea if Griffins had the same behavior as lions. Plus, it was curse. Of course it was a curse. Babylon was out of hand. Unfortunately for Ellie, she had no chance to say another word before a loud flash and bang happened in the middle of the chaos. Even though Ellie managed to close her eyes, she felt dazzled as the flash penetrated her eyelids.

She regained her vision, and had a look of shock on her face as she realized Agatha just made all that ruckus. It definitely stopped the girls though. She hopped off of the counter and took a seat at the table, carrying her encyclopedia. "You know Emily, you should probably try to convince Babylon to stop doing stuff like this. It's nothing but foolish distraction." She shook her head in frustration when Babylon suggested plunging the world into sin. "Seriously...." She muttered. She turned her attention to Agatha again. She honestly liked her as leader... well kind of.

She at least attempted to get these meetings to go somewhere, but unfortunately she didn't usually do so well at it. Still, Ellie wanted to see her succeed. She really related with Agatha.

APPEARANCE

"C'mon, I'm at least passable, right?"

Jessica is about an average size, she likes to think. She's five feet seven inches tall and weighs 135 pounds. She has a little muscle to her, seeing as she has a few active hobbies, such as hiking, jogging, and LARPing. She doesn't work out especially but she has stamina, and a slight tone to her muscles. She has smaller breasts, but what she lacks in those, she makes up for with her butt. She has natural dark red hair that reaches just past her shoulders. Her hair is wavy and a bit on the wild side, and she usually wears it loose. She has deep brown eyes that always seem to have a sort of shine to them. Aside from a few scars on her arms and legs, a notable fresh one on her right arm, she has no real thing of note on her body.

She usually wears tight fitting jeans or some form fitting shorts (usually denim), a t-shirt, and either a jacket or open shirt over top of her t-shirt. She also wears a gemstone necklace that hardly ever leaves her neck, tied their by a tough leather cord. She also likes wearing beanies and other loose fitting hats.

PSYCHOLOGY

MAIN GOAL ⫻ Jessica wants to see the world. She wants to have great adventures, and she also has a lot of fun fighting apparations. If she could make a job out of it, she would. She also prioritizes having fun.

WHAT THEY WANT OUT OF THE COVEN ⫻ A group of witches, people who could help her fight more Apparitions? Hell yeah! They're gonna run this place! Plus, maybe she could learn to add a few more "spells" to her small collection.

BACKSTORY

"Just a boring Indiana life. Moving to Florida was the best!"

Jessica was born in bum-fuck Indiana. Not really much around to do, and not much trouble to get into, so she spent most of her life as a bit of a good girl, aside from the trespassing she so carelessly loved to do. She lived in a sizable town, by the midwest's standards. She got good test scores at school, but average grades, due to her habit of not doing her homework. She retained the information just fine, why did she have to do a thing in her spare time that she already knew? Instead, she used her spare time to play video games, watch anime and movies, and take walks in the nearby woods or maybe pop into an old abandoned warehouse or two. She loved to explore, and wanted to be able to go on epic quests like Lord of the Rings or something! This interest drove her into playing Dungeons and Dragons with some fellow nerds in middle school. A habit that would persist for the rest of her life, at least to present day. She also enjoyed collecting gemstones, and had made a necklace out of Onyx that her father assisted by attaching the stone to a steel inlet. She then ran a leather cord he made through it and tied it on.

When she was in elementary school, she convinced her father to put her in Karate classes. She was especially fond of Dragon Ball Z around this time, among other anime that focused on fighting. She took the classes through elementary school, becoming an orange belt before quitting.

In her first year of high school, she was introduced to LARPing. She loved the idea of having sword fights for fun in real life, not just on a tabletop. She helped form the group of losers, called the Alluvium Vale. They would hold sessions in a park every Saturday in the warmer months. She favored long sword type weapons, but also was pretty decent with pole arms and daggers too, though daggers were the least effective of the three. The group was used to being made fun of, but every now and again a random person would be interested and ask to play. It had its ups and downs. On Friday nights, her group would have D&D, where she often made barbarians and fighters, and almost always led the party. She however never ran a game. She preferred to be the hero, not the god. Also around this time, she took fencing classes and English Sword fighting classes, she attended the fencing classes for about a year, but the English sword fighting classes she took til she was twenty.

She got a job at a video game store where she worked from the time she was 18, to when she moved 7 months ago. She enjoyed it there, she always liked staying late for the midnight releases. Her home life stayed about as it always had been, single father, 1 daughter. No real drama to speak of. The two got along well enough. That's why Jess decided when she graduated, why even move out? My dad is just a roommate I've already been living with for my whole life. It's a good gig. However, it did make dating a little awkward. Whenever she had a boy over, she tried to make sure her dad was out of the house. He thought she was still a virgin she bet, but that kinda stopped after a LARP session in her Junior year. Her main crush Cody finally picked up on her hints, and made love in his crappy 90s car. It was good, and the two had dated for about a year after that, but decided they just didn't click.

She started dating a guy named Stacey when she was twenty, and he was a fighting nut. He liked martial arts movies and MMA. He taught her the basics of hand to hand, and he was surprised that she was able to teach him how to effectively fight with a sword or staff. The two dated for only six months though, seeing as Stacey was a bit of a cheater. She was angry and kinda stopped dating for a while after that. When she was twenty-three, her father got a job opportunity in Tampa for construction work. She had an option, stay in Indiana with all her friends and find a place to live, or tag along. And tag-along she did.

When she got to Tampa, that's when things got weird. And fun! She only lived there for about a week before she already started nosing around. One night, during a late walk around nine PM that some masked assailant charged her, screaming for her to give him her money. She stood her ground, she felt fear, but who cared? This guy wasn't gonna push her around. He wasn't even armed. She firmly told him, No asshole. He charged her, and remembering what she learned from Stacey, she hooked his arm and took him to the ground, pulling his arm back. He screamed for her to stop, which she did. It's not every day you hear for someone beg for mercy. He got up and gave her a swift punch in the jaw. It hurt, but it did little more than that. The guy was a complete novice and swung wide, allowing her to follow the punch with her face, lessening the blow. She drove her knee as hard as she could into his groin, then punched him square on the nose. She ran off after he fell, hoping she didn't make too much of a scene.

That night, she had a dream. Someone she had seen before told her that she had powers. Powers she hadn't yet realized. She explained briefly about the extra-normal, and told her about the powers she could learn. Jess woke up, realizing that she had seen her mother, among other people who looked similar to each other. She followed the instructions she recieved, and before she knew it, her onyx necklace began to glow orange. She picked up one of her swords, that she had been collecting since she was 18, old enough to buy them, and was shocked to see the orange glow surround it too. The following day she got her job at a small comic shop, where she made fast friends with the owner, an older man named Craig, and the three other employees, all in their twenties as well. Jack, Terran, and Andrew. Jess found Terran to be extra cute.

A couple months went by, and Jess continued to practice pushing that orange glow down the blade of her swords. She owned two that were actually sharp, a short sword with a 2 and a half foot blade, and a broad sword of about the same length. The other 10 or so were all replicas.

One night, not too awful long ago, she had read a reddit post about some weird activity around town. She went to check it out. Surely enough, she found an Apparition. Some strange looking beast. She backed up, surprised by what she was seeing. The beast lunged at her and put a solid gash on her arm. She picked up a stick and the orange glow flared from her gem and made its way up the stick. She lunged the stick at the beast which resulted in the thing retreating. From that point on, Jess would pack her short sword in a bag that was made for a tent that she fashioned into a sword carrier. She would fight apparitions, usually only making them run off, but one time she managed
to kill one (or so she thought.). When she heard on reddit that a coven was forming physically, she ran to join, excited to find like talented people.

SKILLS & TALENTS

"Yeah, I know I'm a nerd, but I bet I can take you in a sword fight!"

Crafting ⫻ Jess has spent the bulk of her life making weapons out of foam, pvc, and duct tape, and painting and even whittling D&D miniatures. She also knows her way around a sewing machine.

Swordfighting ⫻ Jess became pretty adept at winning fights with sword-like objects. She was thrilled to find out the real deal isn't really much different. She also took sword fighting classes for years.

Basic Grappling and Fighting ⫻ She learned a few tricks on how to fight. Certain basic submission holds, and the fact that her knees and elbows can be used to deal great pain to an opponent's soft parts. She also knows basic karate. Doesn't remember any of the kata, but those are for show anyway. If she fights someone who isn't trained, she'd definitely have an upper hand.

Orienteering Jess has gotten a keen sense of direction after all of her explorations through woods. She's picked up tricks to always know where she is.

ABSTRACTION DESCRIPTION ⫻ Jess is able to send an orange glow down an object she is holding to make it more effective against apparitions. It also enhances the weapon with an extension, however far she can push the orange glow, the weapon's effects will stretch there as well.

She has also been able to harden materials, such as her clothing to make it a thin level of armor.

AURA SENSING ⫻ Jess has the ability to sense hostility. Not just frustration, but the intent to attack. A red sort of feeling flashes in her mind in the direction of the threat.

LIMITS ⫻ Jessica can only imbue a few objects at a time, up to three. She'll have to drop the imbuing on one object to apply it to a different item and the effect only persists for thirty minutes. Which means she'll have to imbue the object most likely when she uses it. The ability to extend the range of weapons only goes about twenty feet. Her abstraction only has a stronger effect against Apparitions, a powerful effect, but it doesn't do too much extra damage against other Extra-Normal beings (With the exception of the adjoined).

WEAKNESSES ⫻ Normal objects are not capable of handling the influx of Lux that well. Using it too much will cause them to bend and break a lot easier and faster than normal by striking them.

I think I might make a second character, but I'm not 100% sure if I'd use her yet. Depends on what I end up doing haha

I kinda thought Babylon put the curse on Keisha who was already at the casino? Like, you could have done a before getting to the casino post, then also posted what happened when you got there. I don't think Babylon could distance snipe like that, especially not an extra normal
